It didnt matter what team you were rooting for, most people rooted for shanghai in all of their match ups as well. A big portion of those fans carried over into season 2. However, most of them also continued to root for them after they got their first win because of the whole ''0-40 season 1, stage champions season 2'' anime storyline. People have been discussing that for ages. To say that that is not the case and it is not a reasoning for their big fanbase is just simply ignorant. Sure, they got some fans from just not playing goats in stage 3, but a big portion came from the want for a good storyline.
