For me its more that there's no loss of control feeling in BR/CSGO/R6 honestly. Like yes, you can have uncooperative teammates but you can still clutch a game if you're good/lucky.
OW is a team game. A hardcore team game. Individual clutch is rare, and hard to do. You can have carries, but not often enough.
So a lot of the wrong people get into it for the wrong reasons.
And don't have the mentality of actually working together.
And it can torpedo enjoyment fast.

But you can also have a quick loss because of one person who wanted to drop voice, do their own thing, and basically be a true solo.

Overwatch was designed with it growing into esports, and that shines out in the Dynamics of it's team play, it's hard to have another game where a team shine out other than just a star player.
While some situations, you can see individual play get highlighted and players taking the stage like jjonak, the functions that create those scenarios are in the spot light with proper teamwork.
Players though, don't want that, they want to stand out as the star and the less effort the better and they definitely don't want to waste time doing it or watch others take that from them

My guess is since Contenders matters even less with the new regionlocking to a large org, they're doing PR fan service.
Region locking has pros and cons, one of the cons is that it does dumb down contenders a bit because its no longer a best of best situation.
NYXL is doing a -really- good job connecting their brand to NY.
This is just even better for that.
And arguably is better for Contenders than keeping those people.
Because you're getting a better local identity for the team.
Also overall neither of those three are amazing.
Just to be honest.
Goliath is the most 'shocking' be he also has been on the team while they lost the last 3 seasons.

ok so this is coming from someone whos played with most of the owl in ranked and a handful of the try outs in scrims, the problem with the shanghai at the beginning was their lack of coordination between dps and healers
the tank game was proper and they adequately got soace for their team and all but the dps either initiated without their cooldowns but full health or at a slight bp disadvantage and wasted cooldowns bc of that
in ranked, shd dps are the fucking hardest to win against
it seems like they just took the top ranked players on the chinese ladder and slapped them together
