Retribution was cleverly made so that the map felt different from it's pve counterpart. In addition to taking place at night, the map is played in reverse AND it even features areas exclusive to the mission.
Storm Rising was a carbon copy of Havana with a few recycled Talon soldiers thrown in, the only difference from the pve map is that there is a slight storm at the last point.

there are some crazy gameplay abilities that i thought they couldnt possibly pull off in a cinematic (ice wall, "rez") but they always surprise me

1 - Another Omnic Force that gets integrated into Null Sector during the story (Such as Gwisin)
2 - A confederated crime sect, encompassing multiple factions (Deadlock + Los Muertos. maybe Shimada or other as of yet unintroduced factions.)
3 - Something they just havent introduced us to yet, whose introduction would seem random and lame (in my opinion).

There's a lot of work that goes into this stuff. I'm a coder for websites and if it takes me long to code something, it must take Blizz twenty times longer because of the complexity. If you watch the 2017 Blizzcon panel that they did, they actually explain and show videos of the development process of the game from its early stages to now. There's an awful lot that's been fixed, even though the game has its bugs here and there
