im reading it right now
she has a really good way of describing the atmosphere around the character
"The tiny clinic was bustling. A steady stream of patients had kept both exam rooms busy all day. Even though it was late in the afternoon, there were still several people waiting in the lobby, parked in plastic chairs. The walls were painted a cheery yellow, and the AC whirred noisily in the background."
she does good descriptions and dialogue
we need a polish hero
Or just someone in the lore who is polish
the country does not get enough love
is there any polish people in the lore at all?
Poland is where Ana was shot
No revealed ones
The only mention of Poland is that it's where Ana lost her eye
that's the only mention of it
there's plenty of countries that aren't mentioned in Overwatch
Philippines, Singapore and Thailand were the only countries represented in Southeast Asia in Overwatch, right?
I believe so
Does Nepal count?
for being one of the larger and better known countries in Europe, I'm surprised there's no Spanish representation
I agree... i would like to have spain being represented
i guess its because they already have mexican
Mexico is not like Spain in many ways
they already have American, doesn't stop them from adding Canadian rep
(ask any Canadian and we'll tell you we're nothing like America)
Exactly!
I guess compared to France, the UK, Germany, Italy . . . . Spain isn't as popular?
i mean they already covered eu pretty well
Spain is very influential culturally...
im from germany
is tracer marry to emily?
they haven't met, but if they did she would blame him for his part in creating the omnics
Zarya's village was attacked by omnics, and her country is currently at war with them
oh he created omnics?
he helped design some of them
hmm
Dr. Mina Liao helped design their AI
ooohhhh
srry if im dumb but is dr mina liao the maker of echo?
?
il take that as a yes
is the leader of russia backstabbing sombra??
in the short she said something to zarya what was that about is it relating to backstbbing sombra
she was summoning Zarya so she could send her after Sombra
you can see Zarya's search for Somba in the comic "Searching"
yes
wow
ALMOST everything
There have been a few errors such as Reflections missing Roadhog's tattoo
And some like Yeti Hunt aren't canon
안녀앟새요
@opal fox English only.
lame errors
yeti hunt and junkenstein are not canon right?
Junkenstein is a story that Reinhardt told at a halloween party
that part is canon
but the part with the witch and the Reaper and Junkenstein is just a story
ah i see..
Was it ever explained how torn apart Genji was after his fight with hanzo. Like, how many limbs did he loose. How much of him was left?
I know that at least 1 arm was severly injured or just straight up cut off, if you look at the blackwatch genji skin, he seems to have 1 arm intact, the legs seem to be prosthetics though
Genji stated that he agreed to have this body because he wanted to walk again : so was his spine damaged that badly? Because nowadays people without both legs can walk with just prosthetics.
You can see his legs are missing from his upper knee/mid tights and he is missing a whole arm
wait katja is the leader of russia? i thought she just owned volskaya industries and was a very powerful person because of that
you thought correctly
oh because ihavecorn referenced to her as the leader of russia and no one corrected him
So uhhhh, do Genji still has you know.... That?
Yep apparently so
There are no italian charachters do
@peak escarp
If they were to put something in the spanish area portugal or morroco would be better in my opinion
but polish and italian there is none as far as i know
(Wich is not much)
You had italian characters, Vialli and Antonio Bartalotti - both with Talon (and both dead now)
Leonora Botruvio - the omnict artist in the art gallery in Rialto
Ngl blizzard messep up by making mei such a big part of ow2’s lore lmao
how did they mess up?
They probably just don’t like Mei
The main themes of the game shine strongest through her though
Where anyone can rise up to make a difference and be a hero
I agree
I wouldn't really call her a big part
she's just one of the only 2 who answered Winston's call
If we get an Italian character, I think it would be cool if they were based on the Talon assassin. Especially if Mauga is likely going to be based on the Talon Heavy Assault unit.
i want an israeli character
Although I am not a big fan of the OW2 redesigns for the Talon Units.
TBH we need more characters from everywhere, except the US. We have 4 heroes ATM. We can let everyone else have a go.
true
There should be another British character defo. Imagine the bants between them and tracer. LMAO
not surprising considering it's made by an American company
There should be another British character defo. Imagine the bants between them and tracer. LMAO
no, brits dont deserve a second character
Doctor_six, tbh the ow team were SUPER focused of including as many diverse characters as possible. I think its actually quite balanced.
it is very diverse
more diverse than any other game I can think of
I'm just saying, a slight bias towards Americans is understandable
Yeah, you right. But then thats kinda to be expected.
I know if I were making a game, most of the characters would probably be Canadian
no, brits dont deserve a second character
@frosty totem bruh you hit home jeez
i am still expecting an israeli character
I'd like to see a male character from the middle east that is a "good guy"
since it's very rare to see middle eastern men portrayed as heroes
Hamid Faisal could fill that niche nicely
That would be brilliant
I'd like to see a male character from the middle east that is a "good guy"
@peak escarp truuu
We don't need characters from any particular place. But of course, diversity is appreciated.
Blizzard was under no obligation to make the game diverse, they did so because they wanted to.
That's the way it should be.
exactly
is orisa a black woman
no, she's a robot
well don't shitpost
if you're bored, try watching the animated shorts or reading some of the comics
learn about the lore, and join the conversation rather than disrupting it
!!shitposting
Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
Blizzard was under no obligation to make the game diverse, they did so because they wanted to.
@cosmic crest bruh your like zen irl
lol, no
Wait so in the comic when tracer livin it up with emily, how is she in a physical form without her chronol accelerator?
She doesn't have to wear it, she just has to be near it, you can see it charging in the background.
Ohhh, thats handy
it has quite a bit of lore
what the frick this game had a lore?
@jovial kiln hahaha you have some catching up to do!
is that a threat?
yes
is that a threat?
@jovial kiln WHAT?! Nooo, I’m just saying there’s alot of lore.
!!loreguide
This is a guide for people who don't know where to begin with the lore of Overwatch. The first thing is probably to go watch the shorts. They're popular, easy to consume, and pack a lot of story and character.
Shorts Playlist: https://bit.ly/2UQyTeL
There are many comics, short stories, and blog posts as well. The most important ones are:
Binary: https://bit.ly/2IzNvJy
Masquerade: https://bit.ly/2IzNTI0
What You Left Behind: https://bit.ly/2Fh7MRz
There is also an important chain of events following Ana and Soldier 76 (and Mercy at the end):
Legacy: https://bit.ly/2DgM1jQ
Old Soldiers: https://bit.ly/2KLILTV
Bastet: https://bit.ly/2QuXHmM
Valkyrie: https://bit.ly/2CF5JVE
The rest of the stories are mostly optional. Special mention goes out to the Junkers, who have an entertaining string of stories:
Wasted Land: https://bit.ly/2DeKB9G
A Moment in Crime: http://bit.ly/2fMsVYB
Going Legit: https://bit.ly/2InZUkm
The Plan: http://bit.ly/2uZiitC
it was a joke, and what kind of lore, comics, novels?
@jovial kiln oh k. Well its kind of all across the board. If you wan’t an in depth look you should probaby start by watching the tgn timeline youtube video. There are a load of cinematic trailers and there are a handful of comics that you can find for free online. There is a new orisa novel coming out tho.
Well I guess maybe because of covid
I think maybe it was scheduled for 2021
I love how it isn’t coming out for AGES but ppl have alreadu played demos lmao
the demo at Blizzcon was made specifically for Blizzcon
just so they could show off and build hype
it was a very enjoyable book
aimed at kids/teens, but I still enjoyed it as an adult
it doesn't add much major lore, but it does develop Efi and Orisa's characters quite a bit
as well as a bit for Doomfist and Lucio
and a fair bit of worldbuilding for Numbani and omnics
Does it tease Orisa and Efi joining the new Overwatch or was it just an origin story for them?
it does tease that at the very end
add james bond to overwatch
no shitposting here
Are there any other notable members of Blackwatch/Talon that aren't playable yet?
The biggest one is Mauga.
Literally as well
Aside from him, there are a few other notables.
Could you tell me more about them? I'm genuinely intrigued (I love Blackwatch and Talon)
Blackwatch is part of Overwatch
its not Talon
It was the Black Ops division of Overwatch
I know that. I just like the more secret and covert side of Overwatch
Much more moral ambiguity, I love it
So Mauga is basically a heavy assault unit?
Yes
Oh I can already see the skin potential.
The most notable members of Talon are:
- Mauga - Baptiste's old friend. A heavy assault who loves violence and killing. He is confirmed to be in development.
- Sanjay Korpal - Symmetra's boss. Sits on the Talon Council of Leaders. He has access to Vishkar's hard light. His combat capabilities are unknown.
- Nguyen - An analyst. He also fights in the field. Probably will never be a hero, he's pretty plain, only uses a pistol.
- Unnamed Amputee Bomber - Has exactly 1 appearance, the Retribution comic. She is an amputee who hides a bomb in her arm. She uses it to blow up Blackwatch HQ. Will likely never appear again.
There are a few others.
But they're all either dead, heroes, or unimportant.
Oh, and Maximillien. Who will never be a hero. He is an accountant and not a combatant.
Damn. Symmetra's boss? So basically an amped up Symmetra?
🤷♀️
As for Blackwatch, the only one we know there is the pilot from Retribution, Fio.
This is genuinely interesting. I love lore that can potentially become characters
!!wiki Talon
For more information about the game, please refer to the wiki: https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Talon
There is a complete list there
I HOPE the pilot get added to the game
Imagine controlling like a drone or something as an ultimate
Do you think symmetra will ever find out about Sanjay and Vishkar not being what she initially thought? @limpid agate
Yes.
There are multiple heroes who are teasing it, and in her comic she already has her faith swayed
I think that would break Symmetra.
I think the result would be interesting.
Imagine being raised by Vishkar and basically being brainwashed into its loyalest advocate?
And then having the base for your whole life destroyed?
Nomadic Symmetra teaming up with Lucio against Sanjay?
@limpid agate
Probably not
I don't think she would work with Lucio
their ideologies are too different
Symmetra likes order and control, Lucio likes freedom
But after its revealed to her that Vishkar are corrupt?
she still likes order
she needs things to be neat and orderly and for people to follow rules
Do you think Sym would go after Sanjay alone?
not likely - she knows what he's capable of
She'd have to enlist someone's help
yeah
but whose?
I could see her maybe getting Overwatch's help, since they're enemies of Talon already
don't Moira and Symmetra have a few friendly interactions in game?
I think they have one
Doomfist and Symmetra have - and Symmetra doesn"t approve of Doomfist methods
but she doesn't have with other members of Talon
I couldn't see a Sym/Doomfist alliance honestly
But Moira and Sym? I could kind of see it working out (at least for the purpose of taking down Sanjay)
Didn't they work together in Oasis anyway?
Sym isn't in Oasis
A bunch of interactions that were added in the newest patch
She is in Utopea
Of course Moira knows about Vishkar's corruption
well, Vishkar is technically worldwide
She's on the inner council with Sanjay
Oh yeah! I remember the voiceline now ^^
I'm really excited to see what happens when Symmetra finally breaks
her character has a lot of potential
Honestly a nomadic symmetra would be such a cool concept
I'm most interested in seeing the character arcs for Symmetra and Hanzo
I was going to say Hanzo too
Sym is easily one of the most interesting characters
Also, I wanna appreciate how blizzard respectfully portrayed Symmetra's high functioning autism.
And McCree - I definitely want to know what he's up to
I'm interested in McCree too . . . but he's gotten a lot of screentime
Probably because he's a main character
yeah
I kinda wanna know what Moira's done lately
probably a lot of unethical science
Serious lore question - how much money does Overwatch spend on outfits/makeup/etc for each agent?
Michael Chu kinda teased interactions with Sigma - so I hope Sigma is working in Oasis with her - or at the ministry of Physics there
outfits
Considering some of their outfits are heavy armor, or armor with advanced tech, lots.
makeup
None
You have to see the inflation (is it the right word?) in 2070's to know how much money worth
Something tells me Moira will be quite interested in Sigma's work
Talon is interested in his work - that's why they freed him*
Building humans that can break the laws of physics
But when you see how Moira is interested in tracer - and with Mei that stayed frozen for years
My god I love the massive weaving mystery Overwatch lore presents (it's almost like Kingdom Hearts)
So much about each character is still unclear
That's why I love it too - the potential
When my copy of Orisa's book gets to my house I'm gonna read every single page
(and now I'm hype again for OW2 and can't wait to play it xD)
I love digging into the hints they drop
So freaking carefully
although there haven't been many in a while
You'll enjoy it
It was really nice to read
I miss the hints too - I kinda hope we'll have a new map before OW2
I actually love Orisa so much
so we can check some hidden stuff
She's such an underrated character
The book made me love her more ^^
The thing that sold Orisa first was when I got the puppy emote last xmas
I. FELL. IN. LOVE.
I do hope a few of the OW2 launch heroes are characters we know
completely new characters aren't as interesting
Well no, not necessarily. It depends on weather or not they make them interesting.
But I hope they make some of the existing characters playable too.
Does Orisa actually get a puppy in the book? This is important.
I'm saying to me they aren't as interesting
because I'm already somewhat invested in the characters we have met, and want to see more of them
no, she doesn't get a puppy
you know there is almost no lore for zen
but there is some for his brother mundata
yea
I wonder if Symmetra and Moira have any lore together? Because aren’t they both ministers at oasis?
D.Va is getting a OW2 misson
Skip to 1:13 it shows busan getting attacked by null sector
yeah, probably
as expected
she'll probably only team up for that one mission though
I don't think she would leave Korea to join them unless the Gwishin is defeated permanently
will rio be a multiplayer map?
because if so, all the other maps on that map are existing maps in the game, which leads me to believe they're just non-canon hero missions
plus, that part of the trailer was sort of the intro to the hero missions section
I believe part of the Rio map will used as a PvP map
but Busan and Rio were the only two marked with the Null Sector logo
perhaps other maps have other factions marked but they're just not revealing the logos to keep it a surprise
i dont think its an indication that its a story mission
they said they will have Hero Missions for every PvP map - why just list those ones then?
I think a Story Mission in Busan is likely
oh it is likely, and d.va might join overwatch, im not denying any of that
id love that actually
but i just meant that particular map
ah
I hope we get "Overwatch Blue" skins for new Overwatch (even if they never canonically wear them)
I just like the look of the old uniforms
im interested to see if any existing skins, maybe the less popular ones, get edited when OW2 drops
like jeff said, once the game is out and the stuff is in it, its hard to change because people expect it to stay
but people expect big change in the sequel
existing skins probably won't be affected, but any skins made after will probably use the new looks as the base
they'll have to upgrade the skins in terms of model/texture quality anyway, so maybe we'll get little flares of visual effects or something for current skins
for the epics, they'll surely use the new looks as the base
but i mean legendary skins
they dont need to be changed, but they'll have to be upgraded manually anyway for the new graphics, so i wonder if they'll see any opportunities along the way for quick touch ups
they're not just gonna keep them on the old model/texture quality, at the very least
Jeff did say they had a new way of rendering hair and eyes
so there is that at least
actual clothing aside, there's a big difference in sheer texture/model quality when they showed us the old/new tracer comparison up close
it wont be as simple as copy/pasting the exact same assets for the old skins, is what im saying
whether they add to those skins on top of upgrading is something im not sure of but i think isnt too far-fetched. imagine going through the skins manually one by one, there's gotta be an edit or two you wanna make (even if its super minor)
i love when they reference the cinematics in the short stories
im just reading valkyrie and "As I plummeted down and the smoke slowly thinned, I caught it again: the shape of a young girl with a white tee-shirt and dark brown hair. She reminded me of so many children from the past."
https://youtu.be/IBIwGKDwnWY?t=30 which should be this girl
and in what you left behind theres also a reference to baptistes origin story
https://youtu.be/ZfWgcjeG83E?t=48
"The figure stopped, and Baptiste saw that it was a young girl in a torn dress. She stared up at him with bright, angry eyes, a rock clenched in her fist. He could see himself reflected in those eyes, an unknown soldier who had destroyed her home."
Just quick aside from the subject of characters, was it ever explained what holovids were. I mean, obviously they are holographic videos, but how do they work? Maybe like the holocrons from star wars?
i mean technology around light is pretty advanced in overwatch in general
since they have a lot of things they explain with "hard light technology"
i wouldnt doubt that this is also the case, especially if they can properly interact with it
Yeah. I was interested in what Sombra said in the short Infultration about letting pictures appear on every holovid in the world. That led me to believe that all the holovids might be somehow connected through some futuristic internet.
I think we've seen them already.
Its not like Star Wars
Its a holigram of a 2D image
Theres another yeah
I was mistaken
yeah i was just about to say
I dont remember where else Ive seen it then
i played storm rising like a million times
There is the Cinematic Trailer too
They first drop the name there
And the video we watch is a holovid
Its a holographic 2D screen
Here it is at a different angle
Lots of things hover
and theres light around it
Its a holigram of a 2D image
@limpid agate pretty sure that dva in the shooting star short mentions at the end after that guy asks to get on the vip list that hes been, ‘watching too many holovids.’ So maybe they are also actual videos
Yeah its namedropped a lot
The picture I posted above is the best visual example I can think of
Yeah. That was one of the best trailers
it's like how we use TV to refer to both the device used to watch programs, and the programs we watch
e.g. "you watch too much TV"
Yeah
holovids could be both the screens and the videos
Yeah. Maybe its like their form of yt
I think Baptiste will join this new Overwatch
he is a pretty underground hero like soldier 76 after all
not as much of a vigilante as him, but still
Toward the end of his short story, he goes off to meet with mercy
It's pretty likely that he'll join overwatch
Since he wants to redeem himself from all his wrongdoings in talon
Mauga was a heavy assault unit
He was suppose to be a Talon tank but Sigma took his place because the kit wasn’t working with Mauga
Ohhh ok
Where does Sombra fit in tho? She is currently talking to Baptiste
Sombra is a free agent
She works for Talon because it’s convenient, they have a lot of resources. But she has her own project going on too.
its hinted that she might be playing both sides, too
True
shes playing her own side
shes just using anyones resources to her advantage
although... we don't really know what her objective is? she doesnt seem like the power hungry type to me
If you hold the information, you hold all the cards.
Sombra wants information so she can be in control
yeah but im saying whats her objective
what is she going to do with that information
whats her overall goal
shape a better world? become unstoppable and control everyone?
we don't really know why she wants it
thats what im saying
we dont know a lot of heroes's motivations
well we know doomfists for example
he thinks that humanity can only evolve through conflict
moira wants to progress science no matter what the cost
but yeah now that i think about it we dont know many characters motivations
im very curious about gabriels motives
im very curious how his mindset could change so much
that he's fighting for the people he was trying to get rid of
Is Orisa book worth reading for lore
depends what lore you're looking for
it goes over basically Orisa's entire life
but it doesn't have much to do with the main plot of Overwatch
I'll have to read it then
everyone has the big gay, because winsten

How do you access the Horizon Lunar Colony?
Like, do you get there from Watchpoint: Gibraltar's launch station?
there's probably various space launch pads around the world
Lucheng Interstellar are the ones who run Horizon, so they must have a launch pad
Not in Lijiang Tower, though.
I don't think you can put a launch pad in such a populated place.
it's also generally a better idea to make space launches as close to the equator as possible
Has baptistes immortality field been explained. To grant immortality for a short time seems like it makes Baptiste one of the most powerful characters in the lore
No. But so far, its only saved his body from receiving harm in an explosion
Its probably not literally an immortality field
if they were to give it some technobabble explanation they'd probably say it's an "inertia damper" or something
he was still pretty hurt after the explosion, but not dead like he would have been otherwise
raining into the bay. Some crashed into the decks of nearby boats, capsizing them. Seagulls scattered
overhead, shrieking.
When the smoke cleared, Mauga was gone. Baptiste lay on one end of the pier, battered but breathing. The
prototype device hummed in the air, emitting a protective field of energy around him. It was the only thing that
had kept him alive.
“Good to know that works,” he wheezed, pressing a button on top. The device powered down, and the ring
of energy dissipated. He collected the disc and hobbled toward one of the remaining vessels,```
It sounds like a more flexible version of Winston’s protective barrier
by the way, did winston canonically still not figure out his barrier?
since he really couldve needed it in zero hour
but in recall? (the one with the reaper gibraltar attack) he was working on it
Yes
He might figure it out now that he has Brigitte and Rein with him ?
That’s true he doesn’t use it in Zero Hour
Still gotta wonder what the hell his plan was
He was about to get blasted to atoms and everyone else hadn't gone that far
We know he’s still tweaking it after Zero Hour
Brigitte is there with him
Presuming that is his barrier and not something new
Could be
What I meant is that Rein is using a shield technology and Brig too. So they may have input for Winston own shield
Yes
Since she successfully made her own and repairs them regularly
Could be an amusing background scene between missions
or just fanart
then appeal
They wouldn’t just use a fanart during Blizzcon on an official panel
did they?
Yes
huh
Evolving the art of Overwatch
They explained why Rein got his armor upgraded
And showed this picture
Plus, Nesskain isn’t allowed to do Overwatch fanart anymore
weird
Also, that might not've been Winston's only bubble shield
I always thought the one he was working on in Recall was an upgraded version of one he already had
exactly
Symmetra looks at all of this and just laughs.
Imperfect creations
"How exquitisitely medival!" if i can remember his quote in game. She hates these type of stuff.
Her quote sorry
It might be that projecting hardlight on such a scale in such a compact device is very difficult, reins and brigs both cover less area and reins seems to have a larger source than Winston's

Hmm
Wouldn't a shield have to be stronger though
Because a shield is gonna take a lot more punishment than the bridge
they could give any in-universe reason as to why he did or didnt have his shield in zero hour
but they didnt want it there in the cinematic, perhaps because it would take away from genji's entrance if winston wasnt in immediate danger
i do partially agree with people that are annoyed that he just stood there, maybe just a shot of his jump pack firing up to dodge the shots would have been enough imo
I'm more annoyed that they didn't make Mei look hurt at all
that too
I was referring to the fact Sym can create a shield larger than the map.
You might say that it isn't cannon. But frankly, even if she could create a shield a fraction of the size that we see in game it would still be the best shield by a wide margin.
no need for any blood, just some smudges or messy hair
just something to sell the idea that she's actually hurt
and make it look like Mercy does more than just swoop in and give her a quick tap on the shoulder
Did Archives events solidified the lore of Overwatch?
how do you mean?
They set the framework for the PvE style combat
Junkenstein set it up, Uprising expanded it to a solid form, OW2 is expanding on Archives
the three missions we got for Archives (Uprising, Retribution, Storm Rising) were chosen specifically to set up the story for OW2
they establish
a) what caused Overwatch to collapse
b) who Null Sector are
c) what Talon is doing with Null Sector
and probably other things
I dont think Retribution falls under that. I think they just wanted to show off the origins of Reyes' downfall
To correct some things like Fading Glory
Reyes' downfall might be relevant to the OW2 plot
Reyes' downfall was relevant to the OW1 plot
We don't know specifically. Retribution was the start of his downfall. He also blames Overwatch for his condition, but that is presumably after the Swiss HQ incident
also the Venice Incident was the catalyst that started the rift between Reyes and Morrison, and jumpstarted the fall of Overwatch
so it's relevant to the overall story in that way
why is it called the new york excelsior if they are all korean and barely speak english
because the team is owned and based in New York
i mean.. wouldnt reyes hate moira for his condition... since she's the one that did it to him? instead shes working with him
in a group he used to fight against
@valid terrace they are even talking about winston helping brig/rein to upgrade/repair his armor
so its safe to say that winston is working on reinhardts charge thingie there
@sonic flint ?
@limpid agate hes posting that in every channel
Moving swiftly onwards
@subtle geyser maybe he doesn't blame her
for whatever reason, he blames Overwatch and Jack for his condition, whether they're truly responsible at all
i mean, i guess jack kinda took his position in overwatch away
so if that put something between them then i wouldnt doubt that it was only amplified more and more in conflicts
and we dont really know what the stuff moira pumped into him really did to him either, it could amplify his anger against overwatch
since hes already very edgy
I always assumed that when Jack defeated Reyes at Switzerland, something happened to him that didn't mesh well with his genetic altering. Maybe he was electrocuted or something. Talon recovered his body and Moira was able to save him.
we don't know the outcome of the fight at Switzerland
i really hope we get a switzerland mission
I mean, something to that extent.
we don't know if there was a winner, or if there even was a fight - that might have been a story made up by the media
I doubt there wasn't a fight, that would be really lame.
well there was some sort of fight?
gay
I did

did they ship it for you yet?

anyone here willing to indulge me on a rather stupid question of mine?
what is it?
all the other shields are either attached to the hero, or is deployed
yet Sigma has a shield that he can control and move in a lateral direction
there is physically no way to explain that through science
yet Sigma has a shield that he can control and move in a lateral direction
The shield has shield projectors on the sides of it.
And Sigma can manipulate gravity.
@primal escarp
how does he manipulate those four corners?
please explain that to me using science
it's not a huge stretch to expand "manipulating gravity" into "telekinesis"
why tf is his shields health 1348
telekinesis isnt scientifically accurate in the slightest
and since OW has no magic, telekinesis also can't exist
and also it is a huge stretch
gravity manipulation and chronal disassociation isn't scientifically accurate either
but gravity can be explained by physics
"no magic" just means everything has a scientific explanation, not that the scientific explanations will make sense according to real-world science
and with chronal disassociation it actually has some scientific logic behind it
time is a relative concept
meaning as long as you are out of the relative sphere, time will be different for you than it is for others
if you're able to manipulate the gravity around an object, it would appear to float or move in whatever way you direct it
it has to do with the whole E=MC^2 thing
like telekinesis
and no, it really does not
if by that logic, how come things do not get stuck to the shields?
explain how that works
if you are using the logic that they are using gravity to control it, explain how that gravity is working on the shield
how can you argue "that's not how that works" if you don't know how it works?
which is why im saying it's not canon
it's not canon because you don't understand it?
if it is canon, there will be a scientific explanation for it
im simply saying it can not be canon due to the fact that it isnt possible in the OW universe as we current know it
how can you say it's not possible if you don't know how it works?
It's the same thing with Lucio's healing field
healing field?
when he is using his healing boost or speed boost, there is a field around him where he can affect his teammates
which may or may not be canon
he doesn't use it in Hero of Numbani
he does use Sound Barrier, but there's no explanation of how it works
||“Oh, let’s break it down!” he shouted as he activated his sound barrier, providing the audience with protection as they fled to safety.||
there is some logic to his sound abilities as frequencies can be weaponized and used
but the devs most likely will not go into more detail about it
his healing/speed boost is likely just a representation of how he uses music to encourage those around him
like Brigitte's Inspire
but his actual physical healing/speed field around him isnt canon
right
but you can't just dismiss Sigma's shield as impossible when we don't even know how it works
the shield being manipulated with gravity seems plausible to me
from a physics standpoint, it is impossible
no matter how advanced they get
the reason why all his other abilities make sense is because there is a central mass and the gravity of that mass is being manipulated
but his shield simply don't have that
why not?
sigh gravity is a force that pulls objects in, the only why he can possibly move them is if through some sort of magnetic power
if you can change the gravity of the mass of one object (Sigma's hyperspheres or the rock he pulls from the ground) why can't you change the gravity of the mass of another object (the emitters for the shield)?
nvm, there is another thing to add to the list of things gravity can not do
his rocks are also now added
tbh I don't think any of Sigma's in-game abilities are canon
the only plausibility for the rocks would be that he isnt controlling gravity but rather changing their mass
that would give some sort of plausibility of the rock throwing, and when he does throw them, he alters the mass of the rocks to become lightweight enough that he is able to throw them, and then he punches them towards the enemy
as they are traveling, he changes the mass of the rocks, hence why they arc downwards towards the end but stay in a really smooth straight path at the beginning
and the reason why if you throw them straight up and then they break is due to the gravity that is holding the rocks together are extremely unstable as with all of his gravity abilities and so after a duration they simply fall apart
or since gravity is a distortion of time and space, it's actually not pulling that is being done here
actually, the shields might actually be plausible
how does he manipulate those four corners?
With gravity. Gravity is a force of attraction. Sigma can manipulate it.
Its the same way Magneto can do the same things
Zenyatta
instead of him pushing the shields away from him, he's creating a center of mass in front of the shields and due to how masses work, they naturally go forward
and magneto is magnetic force, not gravity
similar, but not the same
Magneto manipulates magnetic objects with the same semantics
no no no
magneto can do what he does, because magnetic force allows him to
he can push and pull any object away and to him due to this
Sigma does what he does because gravitic force allows him to
but gravity functions in a very different way than magnets
and that answer does not satisfy crap
that's why your parents telling you to do something because
and they keep saying "because i want you to do it" as their answer
yeah, the object with a smaller mass is pulled in by the object with a bigger mass
this is due to the space around the larger mass having a higher distortion, thus causing the small mass with a much smaller distortion to have a smaller force
Graviton there is ?
what?
The answer is
The writing staff is not a team of physicists
They saw Magneeto
and wanted to make black hole magneeto
So they did
I am not joking. The writing staff of the video game Overwatch is not made up of physicists
no, not that
the part where they saw magneto and said, they wanted a black hole magneto
Tracer teleports and they call it time travel
of course the OW dev team is not a team of physicists
Symmetra can turn light into matter
actually, tracer's teleportation has some basis of truth to it
It doesn't
do you really want to argue about this?
Of course not
good, so you concede
it does from a lore standpoint
The lore standpoint is Sigma manipulates gravity
Which is a force of attraction
Full stop
full stop?
it works because the writers say it works
Full stop is another word for a period
then what's the point of this discussion if not to debate about how things happen and why they happen in the story?
The channel is to discuss how things happen and why.
Not the underlying non-existent physics behind it.
but that relates to why they happen
How - Sigma harnessed the power of Gravity
Why - Because he got mindbroken by Gravity in an accident on the ISS
why are you capitalizing "gravity"?
are you suggesting that Gravity is a separate being?
I felt like it, and didn't remember if it was capitalized in his bio or not
because that would bring up a lot of good points about why he can do what he does
No its not
Its the fundamental force of attraction
Written by people who don't know anything about it
To be consumed by people who don't know anything about it
I am. This is not a party.
we know that's not how gravity works - lots of things in Overwatch don't work like they would in the real world
Widowmaker is the obvious example
Or Symmetra
Symmetra is the obvious example
She breaks multiple laws of physics on a daily basis
yeah, we dont talk about Symmetra
a slower heart rate would not make her a better sniper, it would make her fatigue easier and be lethargic
and probably dead
Widow would be dead without a doubt
simply walking around would be the death of her
exactly
the writing team are not scientists
they do some research, but rule of cool will trump scientific accuracy
but wasnt there a whole thing where they said that there is no magic in OW and that it's all science and advanced technology?
yes
i mean, You can maybe make an argument for widow
that's my point
she has a healing thingy that is healing her at all times
like the healing from Mercy
that's fair, it's not for everyone
it makes no sense to me and the whole story kinda bores me
granted not everything has to make sense
that's why you have the pursuit of knowledge, but even then, i like to at least understand to some degree when it comes to the enjoyment of something
Overwatch is set on future earth, but it's more like "Earth"
a fictionalized version of future earth
where some things align more with cartoon physics than real-world physics
but even then, there has to be some sort of link
Yeah.
He is from The Hauge.
And worked on the ISS
He can manipulate Gravity, rather than magic.
that's a weak link
and im determine to find a stronger one
also, sigma is dutch?
also, sigma is dutch?
Yes
Yes
surprised you didn't know that
He has quite a few Dutch voicelines. It's not like Reinhardt where he speaks zero German.
actually, i have not encountered any of his dutch voicelines
other than his ult
but i didnt know that was dutch
you seemed so knowledgeable about the lore, I was surprised you didn't know
i really dont think you should get too scientific about how the technology of overwatch works, of course it wouldn't work in real life, otherwise we'd have IRL sigmas right now
the first obvious thing that already doesnt make any sense is sigma being exposed to a black hole, giving him control over gravity
so there's not really much of a point in arguing about how his power really works scientifically
if sigma can harness the literal forces of gravity, why does he choose his weapon as rocks
because it's a shooter and he needs to shoot something
but lore-wise
i mean it's not like that's the only thing that he's doing with his powers, we havent seen him do anything in his "godmode" lore wise
For now lore wise he is a scientist and not a fighter
we've only seen his abilities ingame
Also, his weapon isn't "rocks"
hes under talon currently and pushing the limits of his power
fair
and well.. i doubt his powers are limitless
he can probably just manipulate gravity to an extent
also that “godmode” u were saying, i think he is in that mode when he hears/listens to the melody/when he uses his ult
i mean he kind of already sounds like he's putting a lot of power just lifting a boulder ingame
well the voice actor said they referred to it that way
i think that the "godmode" thing is just one of his personalities when he breaks
well, he always talks about "keep it together, keep it together" and pretty much seems very unstable
many people will say "hold it together" when they're in stressful situations
this is what was referred to as god mode
and how do we know he doesn't have split personalities?
“It’s interesting, because I can see how people in the community have identified with Sigma as someone who is struggling or dealing with mental health issues,” Chu said. “But with the idea of the character, we never intended him to be an example of someone who’s going through mental health issues. He’s really supposed to be more focused on this very specific thing that happened to him, which is that his body and his mind were literally ripped apart by the momentary exposure to a black hole.
i'd consider "his body and his mind were literally ripped apart by the momentary exposure to a black hole" is a pretty big mental health issue lol, but i know what chu is getting at, it's not really a traditional mental health issue
the origin trailer took some artistic liberties, showing him at different points overlapping with each other
people read that as split personalities, but it's more like his perception of what happened has been scrambled
i know, but the god mode phase must've happened at some point?
i know it's him at different points in time
god mode could be his future version, if/when he gets used in combat?
yeah, he's in talon uniform there so...
i was just referring to him as breaking because he really doesn't seem like the kind of guy that would go into god mode for no reason
just listen to his voice lines and quotes, he's so calm and calculated
not violent at all
yeah
that's why I think "godmode" Sigma isn't canon - it's just for the game
it doesn't fit his personality
i really hope it is though
we need more sigma lore for sure
he's such an interesting character
i think ive watched his origin story over 10 times now
its my favourite origin story too
unfortunately I don't think Sigma will get much attention
they said not every hero will get a featured at the start of ow2 right?
yeah
Sigma is one that will probably get left out, along with Wrecking Ball, Ashe, maybe Zarya
maybe the junkers
how many do we have confirmed to be featured?
we don't know yet
those are just my guesses
based on who is more important to the core story
i mean, for example we do have tracer/lucio/rein/andwhoeverelsewasontheriomission confirmed
i forgot the 4th xd
Mei
and then we have genji/zen in some way
although we dont know if zen is featured gameplay wise
we've also been told Bastion will be important
ill rewatch the gameplay trailer
I could see them doing a mission with Bastion, Torbjorn, Brigitte and Reinhardt
rein / tracer / lucio / mei in rio
genji in india
we also see winston, soujorn, mercy and brig (lucio rein genji tracer mei too) in watchpoint gibraltar, so it's safe to say they should be featured too
other than that there were some heroes in hero missions but i guess that's just with all heroes unlocked
yeah, hero missions will be all heroes
Hero of Numbani spoiler ||and Orisa and Efi know Lucio and probably have missions with him again or with new Overwatch too||
is that spoiler hero of numbani related? i dont wanna read any spoilers for that yet
Yes
also back to sigma, another theory i have is that the "hold it together" is because his mind was ripped from his body, he's trying to "hold it together" and to literally not lose his mind
think that makes sense?
yeah
in the overwatch 2 cinematic Zero Hour, echo flies by and says “hello winston” and she sounds very young, but in Overwatch1 she sounds more mature. is it just an audio thing or..
oh ok
she had one in Reunion, another in Zero Hour, and then Jeannie Bolet for the game
I guess they were having trouble settling on someone
Lauren Tom in Reunion, Hojo Shin in Zero Hour
we know their names because of the promotional posters
oh yeah theres a big difference between reunion and zero hour
but it was kind of acceptable because of the change of tone
like the "hello winston" was so excited and loud
while in reunion she talks very casually
where are the posters from?
they were given out to the animators who worked on it
oh
I didn't even notice
in the Zero Hour poster, you can see the reflections of the other heroes in the puddle beneath Winston
oh thats cool
close up of the credits
Crispin Freeman [Winston], Cara Theobold [Tracer], Zhang Yu [Mei], Darin DePaul [Reinhardt], Lucie Pohl [Mercy], Matilda Sandborgh [Brigitte], Gaku Space [Genji] and Hojo Shin [Echo]
Zhang Yu also goes by Elise Zhang, and I guess Sandborgh is Matilda's English name? Her Swedish name is Matilda Smedius
for Reunion
Matt Mercer [McCree], Jennifer Hale [Ashe] and Lauren Tom [Echo]
Reunion is one of the few not directed by Ben Dai
oh it actually looks like mccree tipped off ashe in reunion
because he was already sitting there with the chip for echo
probably yeah
I think he scared off the diner patrons and staff too so they wouldn't get caught in the crossfire
it looks like everyone left in a hurry
I think it’s actually hilarious how inaccurate the cinematics are compared to the actual game. Like I know they’re awsome but still.
what do you mean with that? ability wise?
I prefer to think of it the other way around
the game is inaccurate to the shorts
for example, in Alive we see Tracer blink more than 3 times in a row, and she can blink in any direction, not just vertically
not just in alive
we also see her do that in the first cinematic with the punch kid
at the end when she puts away dooms gauntlet
and then blinks upwards through the shattered glass
exactly
the game isn't canon - if they had their canon abilities in the game, they'd be way OP
but in general there's a lot of things that wouldnt work well ingame
for example widow using her grappling hook to fixate herself to a wall
or fixate it onto something and slide down
like in alive
yeah
or winstons shield bomb xd
or well, if genjis blade can really cut through a giant robots hand im sure it can onehit kill everyone
and reaper can fly while in wraith form
and not die
right
plenty of examples
yeah
also god damn sombras translocator is op
like not ingame but
as shown in the cinematic
theres so many applications
where she can do risky things and just get away with it
ironically, the way it works in the short is closer to how it worked after it was changed to never expire
i dont even wanna start the discussion of how it would work scientifically tho lol
you just have to reverse the polarity of the neutron flow 😛
exactly its so simple
no clue why people dont get it smh
but im sure the modifications she let people do to her body are part of it
iirc it's a modified version of Tracer's chronal accelerator
oh god imagine a tracer sombra hybrid
hm that doesnt specifically refer to the chronal accelerator though
only to tech tracer knows about
I think it's referenced somewhere else
they have more lines about it too
(Tracer is so mean)
Tracer's a goody-goody, of course she would hate some one as self-serving and dishonest as Sombra
I would like to ask a question related to a previous Sigma discussion, so Sigma’s character and abilities are related to gravity right? How is his basic attack related to gravity?
he throws out hyperspheres, which are two mini gravitic charges
it's called hyperspheres
like micro Zarya ults
and he controls them using gravity
you can see it in one of his emotes as how he has complete control over them
that's what we're here for!
I love the lore channel uwu
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWEpjzgMqyU at the beginning you can see him controlling them
i think its also an emote ingame
Oh ok
oh my god i just realized that sigma succ is him controlling gravity and moving all projectiles into the hole he forms
O.o
i just never really thought about what that ability is supposed to be
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWEpjzgMqyU at the beginning you can see him controlling them
Thx, imma take a look at that
No one escapes gravity. Sigma is ready to begin the experiment.

@indigo sorrel did you have a question?
thats weird, why does it embed in quotes?
I think it’s cause I have the regular role
What its lore?
lore is the story and characters
does it embed links for you doctor?
!!loreguide
This is a guide for people who don't know where to begin with the lore of Overwatch. The first thing is probably to go watch the shorts. They're popular, easy to consume, and pack a lot of story and character.
Shorts Playlist: https://bit.ly/2UQyTeL
There are many comics, short stories, and blog posts as well. The most important ones are:
Binary: https://bit.ly/2IzNvJy
Masquerade: https://bit.ly/2IzNTI0
What You Left Behind: https://bit.ly/2Fh7MRz
There is also an important chain of events following Ana and Soldier 76 (and Mercy at the end):
Legacy: https://bit.ly/2DgM1jQ
Old Soldiers: https://bit.ly/2KLILTV
Bastet: https://bit.ly/2QuXHmM
Valkyrie: https://bit.ly/2CF5JVE
The rest of the stories are mostly optional. Special mention goes out to the Junkers, who have an entertaining string of stories:
Wasted Land: https://bit.ly/2DeKB9G
A Moment in Crime: http://bit.ly/2fMsVYB
Going Legit: https://bit.ly/2InZUkm
The Plan: http://bit.ly/2uZiitC
since youre also regular
yes
oh alright
something like that
K
well the game has a lot more lore than that
its not just character introductions
its an entire universe that the game plays in
im kinda confused with moiras lore
what would you like to know?
im just kinda confused on why she turned evil like wasnt she in blackwatch?
yes she was in blackwatch, but overwatch didnt really support how far she wanted to go with science in the first place
she doesnt really have the usual morals normal people have and i'd consider her a sociopath, at least she lacks empathy
she was always kinda "evil" - Blackwatch allowed her to continue her unethical research
.
so overwatch was really just a way to further her science, but it wasnt enough
when Blackwatch got suspended, she moved on to the next people who would support her research - Talon and Oasis
(I don't consider her evil, but that's another debate)
by the way is where she went in oasis related to talon?
i dont know much about that place
it's a city in the desert in Iraq that was founded by scientists as a place were they would work on their science unhindered by laws and society
and how did talon recruit her?
Talon probably heard of her work and recruited her
3. HISTORY LESSON: Oasis was founded by a brilliant collective of eight of the world's leading scientists, led by Ibrahim Hassoun, Anya Al-Shahrani, Youssef al-Jabiri, and Mehmet Farhat. Their dream was to build a city ruled by scientific principle, where research and innovation could occur without restrictions. It is the world's foremost technocracy and boasts one of the most highly educated populations in the world.
and from Moira's bio:
After Overwatch was disbanded, O'Deorain was forced to turn to unconventional sources of funding. This time, she was invited to join the scientific collective that had founded the city of Oasis. Yet some have whispered that the shadowy Talon organization had already been supporting her for years, aiding her experiments in exchange for utilizing the results for their own purposes.
Where do u get this stuff
thats from the hero page
on playoverwatch
Mine as well turn it into a anime
also I have a list of all the lore sources
theres a lot of sources of lore, comics, the hero page, cinematics, origin stories, short stories, the new novel, twitter, interviews, etc
