I want to congratulate Riot for avoiding the temptation to pad out the game with lore, instead letting players learn about characters from throwaway voice lines and Easter eggs. Keep it like that. As we’ve seen with Overwatch, once you start ramping up the amount of lore surrounding your game, you turn the casual player into freaks and crazies who care more about the narratives surrounding characters than things such as game balance.
There are some games that benefit from lore, such as RPGs, but online shooters are not one of them.

they soft retcon Reaper being jealous of Morrison getting the Strike Commander title after the Crisis, but kept their fighting at the end of Overwatch real with Mercy gossiping in Storm Rising. - if we can call that a soft retcon, it's more an "unreliable narration" - because the lore took a different direction bewteen the 2015 article "Fading Glory" and First Strike cancellation.
The other thing they screwed up was the ages on some pictures in the early animated shorts - where Ana, Reyes and morrison should look older than they appear on the pictures.

most of the actual retcons we've had - D.Va's game changing from StarCraft to Mecha Guardian V, and Mei waking up and escaping vs. being found frozen - are things that got changed during the beta but just weren't revealed to us later

I was looking through the ages of the heroes to help me establish a timeline for myself to keep up with, and when I got to Tracer (26), I realised that she would've been only 20 in the Storm rising mission, Winston was 23, Mercy was 31, and Genji was 29. I thought that was pretty cool. Take an extra year of each of them and that's their ages during Uprising. Also, how old was Tracer when she flew the Slipstream?
