Judging by what he dresses as he looks like he is wearing military type accessories
I ment to put perhaps before that
But maybe twisted what the saviour did. Kinda like kn movies where an AI thinks the only way to save humans is to kill them
Yeah
Something similar happened to the scourge and that became his motive
Heroic in his own way
The scourge just plundered Numbani for personal gain
Or maybe the thing were humanity get stronger in conflict was said by the savior but similar to a game of telephone was twisted
He must have had some other reason. Doomfist killed scourge right?
Yes
I think each Doomfist had a very unique philosophy
Maybe doomfist saw that the scourge was a hypocrite for not following his own ideals and took action
Besides the glove they’re all very different
Even the glove is different
He just saw him as too narrow minded
Just a title
Only ransacking Numbani like a common crook
Doomfist is devoted and fully believes in his cause and when he saw the scourge not believing in his own he got angry at that
Maybe, but Doomfist isn’t an irrational man, he probably just saw the opportunity in the gauntlet to further his own goals
Talon’s goal lined up with his, but most of the members were just in it for money
Most members of talon are in for personal gain
Reaper wants ow dead
Sombra is using them
Df wants humanity to be in crisis to strengthen them
Moria
Is moria
That makes sense
Oh yeah obvs
Bap left because it was immoral and malga I'm unsure of his motives
Mauga
Also that fight with orissa and doomfist has got to appear in canon sometimes I mean her purpose is to defeat doomfist
we might get to see them fight in the novel, but probably not
Talon is a group of people furthering there own goals
most likely it'll just be their first fight, between Doomfist and the OR15 who would become Orisa
Orisa may have parts from multiple OR-15s for all we know
I wish there was interation with df and orisa like "I remember you, didn't I smash you to pieces" "I'm unsure what your talking about let me search my files"
Yeah
Huh
also they do have a similar interaction to what you said
Dose rein like orisa like orisa likes rein
Because a OR15 is what gave rein his scar
Doomfist: I hope the girl gave you more than a new coat of paint.
Orisa: You may be surprised! I have received a number of upgrades since that battle.
I like that one
@fathom tartan that was an OR-13 I'm pretty sure
OR-14's are the Null Sector ones, I thought maybe the ones from the crisis were different.
OR-14 is the crisis model
Null Sector is OR-14NS
Its the same with Bastions. Most are model B-73.
Null Sector's are B-73NS
kk
I used to think Talon's motivation of bettering humanity through conflict was lame, but there is actually some truth to it. There was a staggering amount of technological development during the world wars.
what is it they say? necessity is the mother of invention?
I'd imagine there was a ton of advancement during the omnic crisis too.
Like the super-solider program for example
Yeah but only 2 soldiers were successfully enhanced
probably at least 100 were tested on
100 is a round number, but yeah you're right
I imagined that Reyes and Morrison were the only super soldiers because it would give them a special connection in their early friendship.
they were the only supersoldiers chosen for Overwatch, that would be enough for them to bond over
I mean like, the other soldiers may have either died or been disfigured during the program. So it's like they are the only two survivors.
Even if that isn't true, I can't imagine the program was a painless process.
we don't know much about it
but why should Jack and Gabe be the only ones not disfigured/killed by the program? what makes them special?
Nothing really, it may have just had a low chance of success
The military may have been willing to kill/disfigure some soldiers to get a few super soldiers.
There were a lot of crusaders - but they chose Balderich for Overwatch (but Rein took his place). I guess they too, the best from each country with an advanced military program to counter the omnics
It's likely that there were other Super Soldiers - enven if we don't know of them
There were probably more Soldiers
But the ones in Overwatch were the elites
Reyes and Jack
Reinhardt
Ana
You forgot Torb
k
Torbjorn and Mina were brought in because of their expertise on the omnics
^
Those 4 were selected for being elite soldiers
Torb was brought on for being responsible for designing their physicalities
Was Reinhardt enhanced at all?
Liao was brought on for being responsible for designing their self-learning algorithms.
Was Reinhardt enhanced at all?
Probably not.
He looks like he's just jacked.
he just has power armor
Just a genetic beast then
he's beefy
that's Blizzard proportions
Doomfist has massive hands in the Storm Rising cutscene too
they're listed on the Gamepedia wiki
Ok thank you
he knows what happened to her, so I don't think he blames her for anything she did
He has more interactions with Sombra than with Widowmaker
And I dont just mean in game
I wish Amelie made an appearance in the Retribution comic
I dont think they talk much
By Gerard's bedside maybe
Do we think the other Talon Snipers are brainwashed like Widowmaker?
She isn't brainwashed
So no
"You know what I mean"
No, I don't think they've been reconditioned either
I think they're just more soldiers who happen to be snipers
Just like the rest of Talons fodder forces
I don't mean to undermine what happened to Widowmaker, it's easily the darkest story they've told in the lore
Mei’s is pretty bad
Mei's is tragic, but doesn't compare I don't think
Her entire team at the Eco-Point base died due to a cryogenic malfunction, along with her being in stasis for 7 years.
The darkest part of the universe is none of those
Its the fact that the Earth was literally facing apocalypse conditions against a race of genodical machines that entire armies were failing to defeat.
Which is why the entire world was rebuilt and looks so bright
Except for the people that lost loved ones I mean
maybes siberia due to russias omnic crisis idk tho just speculation
They’re containing it so it’s not as bad as before
Do we know the death toll of the crisis?
More than 2.
funny
Thank you. I'll be here all night.
but seriously, do we know?
I'd imagine it's been stated somewhere.
Baptiste says 30 million children were orphaned
I think that's the only solid number we have
Alright, so lets assume that large chunk of those children had their parents killed. 30 million x 2 = 60 million... ish. We have a good starting point.
Jesus, and that's just parents
Since that’s accounting for both parents that have kids and the child survives the death count is probably around 100-200 mil
not every pair of parents only had one child
you don't need to multiply, you need to divide
Keep in mind, that number excludes:
- Children who died
- People without kids
- Families with 1 surviving parent
- People whose kids are not young enough to be orphans
Exactly
Or entire families that were killed
I'm sure with enough digging and maths, we could hypothesise a ~~ good~~ rough estimate.
Not enough information
I was worried that they would underplay it, but nope!
for comparison, the death toll of WWI was about 40 million, WWII was about 85 million
If that happened IRL it would be earth shattering.
If you want real life comparison
After WW2, Germany had 300,000 orphans. Just Germany, and that's 300,000 rather than 30,000,000
Omnic crisis would have higher technology/more destructive weapons and a higher global population
Germany had 4.3 million deaths
so >85 million is likely
So if you were to multiply that by 100...
430,000,000 deaths
Based on this 1 point of information
Its far from an accurate number
But its a small idea
I wouldnt be surprised if a billion people died.
Parents alone that's at least around 30-60 million dead
we don't know how long that has been going on
Deaths around the world... From what?
Dead parents are already more than almost every conflict in history
Is this just Null Sector and other pocket resistence groups in recent years?
Like Gwisin?
Considering that Omnics are more likely to attack children or civilians than Union soldiers, that number is likely even higher
it's not very clear
Like, there is no Omnic Crisis in some of these places
Although it's not as devastating as one or two historical events it still would've been crippling
Not in terms of sheer numbers
Considering that Omnics are more likely to attack children or civilians than Union soldiers, that number is likely even higher
Also a good point
But percentage of the population killed
An Allied soldier would probably spare a German child.
But an Omnic wouldnt think twice
At least a crisis era Omnic
I don't think Null Sector would hesitate to shoot a child
Honestly, I'm surprised omnics are around at all after an event like this
in fact, we know they won't
Weren't omnics already free thinking beforehand?
No
They were like vacuums and butlers
So they only became free thinking afterwards?
Weren't omnics already free thinking beforehand?
Yeah probably
Bob is likely pre-Crisis
Oh I thought they just said free
So they may have aided efforts against the omnic crisis
My bad
We still don't know what kickstarted the crisis, or who was responsible
Do we even know what caused it to end?
Omnics existed before the Crisis
The existing Omnics didn't just suddenly pick up guns and start shooting
@pliant sparrow Yes, Overwatch
The Omniums just started churning out new war machines
But what did they do that caused it to end
This was a war many countries thought they were prepared to fight. But no single country, no matter how powerful its military, could permanently shut down a single omnium. The adaptability of robots, once celebrated by humanity, had become a tactical nightmare. Worst of all, there were no demands from the omnics. There was no ideological reason for their aggression. They simply attacked, and we did not understand why.```
in-universe, nobody knows why
They unified the world's militaries
the crisis was ended by Overwatch disabling the Omnic's command network
How did they manage that?
In highly secretive missions, they targeted the omnics' command and control protocols. After great sacrifice and heroism in a series of dangerous raids, they destroyed it all, rendering the omnic armies inert. The Omnic Crisis had finally come to an end.
In an event like this, it would be unethical for the world's militaries to stand alone with the massive loss of life
the only country that had any success against the omnics without Overwatch's help was Russia
I wonder did they have their own strike team?
They had Svyatogors
Those giant mechs?
Yes.
So basically out engineering the omniums?
damn how populated is the overwatch world
By humans?
Unknown
But our real world has a population of 7.5 billion
Before the virus
I'd guess probably 10 billions by Overwatch's time
The virus has already shaved off a few decimal points.
Yeah, I was thinking 9 or 10 billion.
10 billion
If it was that populous at the time of the crisis
It wont be by the end of it
Was it ever said that Russia had Syvagotors in the first crisis?
the death toll from the current pandemic is still only three-thousandths of a percent of the human population
Was it ever said that Russia had Syvagotors in the first crisis?
Yes
Im sure theres a source on
!!wiki Svyatogor
For more information about the game, please refer to the wiki: https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Svyatogor
If not, Ill look it up
Hello
So the pre-existing omnics weren't the cause of the omnic crises right? it was the omniums essentialy gaining sentence and deciding they wanted humanity gone?
pretty much
which means there were thousands of omnics already out in the world when the omniums turned
we don't know what happened to those omnics - did they join the omniums? did they stay out of the war? did the humans destroy/deactivate them en mass?
I hope that's something more lore comes out about, I'm curious how many omnics apposed them/ sided with humans
It doesn't look like theres omnics fighting human side during any of the battles we see during the crisis
I imagine it might be like like the Japanese during WWII - omnics probably lost their jobs and homes, and were removed to secure locations
it would be nice to see some omnics on the human side though
since we do see some humans siding with the omnic rights movement in Alive
oh omnic internment camps is an interesting idea. that seems likely considering they don't know what made the omniums do that and theres a lot of anti-omnic sentiment
also i'm unsure if the omics built by the corupted omniums inherently have sentience. In Bastion's short it looks like he struggles to break his programming and doesn't have free will when his light goes red
That appears to be more because he had read the mind of the fallen Bastion
SOmeone correct my drunken diction
I am not 100% correct
Mind is the incorrect term to be using here
But it is because he had read the memory banks of one of his fellwo fallen Bastion units
Doctor Six is typing, good
Explains please
lol
the red represents the orders Bastion was given - reading the memory of the other bastions reaffirmed those orders
I think?
yeah thats what I interpreted it as
just like any human can choose to ignore orders, so can omnics - but they probably have a harder time doing it because of logic processors and omnic stuff
and some like Anubis can override the ability to choose and force omnics to do things against their wills
If you've played detroit: become human I think its somthing like that. how they start out just following orders but as they learn they start having opinions and feelings
something like that
Wait I missed a lot. So the pre-crisis Omnics don't have sentience, but the ones built by the corrupted Omniums during the crisis do?
all omnics have sentience
I'de imagine normal omnics come preloaded with enough info to have sentience from the get go but omnium ones just come with orders to kill
pre-crisis and post-crisis
yeah they all have sentience... probably?
yeah they all have sentience... probably?
Sentience != Sapience
if we found out that civilian omnics stayed civilians, it would put a hole in the hive-mind theory some people have
All omnics have sentience
Even the braindead Bastion B73 that Bastion (the hero) downloaded the memory banks of
Or whatever the correct choice of diction is
Future semantics are not worth debating, but worth acknowledging that they are different.
Sapience is the key word that is different
i gotta google sentience and sapience now lol
And even then, it is suggested that Omnics had sapience prior to the Crisis
Its just that Zen's bio about a spiritual awakening presents a lot of misconceptions
yeah I believe all omnics pre and post crisis have both i'm just not sure if omnium made ones inherently had either or if ones like bastien gained it later
yeah true
It is impossible to confirm
But I am fairly sure
Bob was part of the Ashe family since before the Crisis
And by extention, that means we would have had domestic, sapient omnics before and during the crisis
I think the single most important factoid we can received by twitter via the lead writer of Overwatch, whoever it is that replaced Michael Chu
Would be whether or not Bob was part of the Ashe family before the Crisis
when we find out who it is, I'll be sure to ask them
My money is still on Robinson
I wish we got a Mercy animated short, she was the only character in Zero Hour that didn't appear in one.
hmmm the talk about bob made me interested to know more about that omnic
How did reaper get the ability to become smoke ?
Was it from the OW base explosion or Moira’s experiments?
We see in Moira's origin video that he got it from her, she gave herself the same abilities too
his cells are rapidly decaying and regenerating at the same time
Didnt reaper receive help from mercy too?
no
Huh
I only know that genji received major help from mercy
reaper didn't get any that we know of
he went to moira once he started getting problems, presumably from the SEP treatment
does anyone know where i can easily find all the backstories in orde
And then like mercy healed Mei in that one clip in zero hour
i've watched all the animated shorts but i can't be bothered to specifically search for each backstory video
the pins to this channel have everything
ty!!
yeah some of the backstories were kind of a part of the animated shorts as far as i could tell
but yay
lore is fun
Ever wished that OW lore was a movie? XD
i legit watched an hour and a half long video that compiled all the shorts in time order or whatever
so
almost a movie!
Didnt mercy revive reaper?
no
that was a shoddy fan theory
which got completely disproven with Moira's introduction
Wait, blackwatch was under overwatch right?
yes
Then blackwatch became Talon?
no
Talon already existed at the time of old Overwatch
the Retribution mission was Blackwatch strike team against Talon
but once overwatch disbanded, a number people from former Blackwatch joined Talon
most notably Reaper and Moira, possibly also a number of low-level agents/mooks
yes
lol
Mercy asked for moiras tech to heal reaper and mccree after the retribution mission
no
mercy wouldn't do that
Mercy has her own healing tech, she doesn't need Moira's
she was against ana's rifle that torbjorn designed, she didn't like moira's healing techniques
so to speak
Oop nvm
Moira sucks the life out of her enemies and gives it to her teammates. As a pacifist, Mercy would naturally would be against that.
I watched the dragons animated short but I don't understand the end. can someone help me out?
What don't you understand about it?
like, you see Genji disappear at the end but what happens to Hanzo?(Does he join Overwatch or something?)
No, he doesn't join OW, but I don't think it's been said what he did after.
ty
There's very little lore sadly
There's plenty of lore, just not enough for each hero individually
Fair way to put it
Do we know anything about the Netflix series yet in terms of when it's going to take place or anything like that?
And some heros don’t even have lore unfortunately
Every hero has lore, some are just much less developed than others
Oh whoops my bad
@reef oracle I don't even think that has been officially confirmed so if it is a thing we probably won't here anything about it for a long time
F
A series of any kind would be awesome though
Or if we are being optimistic, multiple series focussed on different parts of the lore
Have either of them been officially confirmed or just the linkdin stuff
I don't think multiple series would be a good idea
if anything I'd like to see an anthology-like series focusing on different things
nothing confirmed
Cuz there was the Diablo one too so if that got officially confirmed I feel like since they were both discovered together that it would basically confirm the ow one
Imagine playing junkrat when pharah + mercy are wrecking the team
imagine posting complaints about your team in lore-d
O.o

#TireKillsBirds
how many days till season reset?
still the wrong channel mate
I'd definitely like to see just episode to episode hopping to different places in the world as time went on and tensions rose
With some action thrown in obvs
That sounds nice
We might get a new map before OW 2, any hopes?
Lucio prob has least lore
Those are my favs
I mean, are there any places in the lore we would like to see?
Utopaea is a big one for me
Symmetra has work in oasis right
Where was the museum in the original trailer?
Ooooo that would be good
Cuz it wasn't in numbani right?
@woeful path Sym does not work in oasis, she has a voiceline saying that it would a good place for a Vishkar development
@reef oracle Yes, the museum was in Numbani
I thought it specifically wasn't in numbani
And then it had to be delivered to numbani by plane
Yea...
Numbani's museum
But not the same one
I think
Draco help you seem to be the lore master
You might be right
I may have remembered it wrong
I thought it was the same museum
For everyone saying that the museum in the original trailer is in Numbani. It probably isn't. Seeing as the entire museum in the trailer is focused on Overwatch, and Numbani's is called the Numbani Heritage Museum
From Reddit
What other places even are there?
@woeful path Why would she be in Lijiang?
Actually yeah what is Lucio's location
Mei in lijiang
Mei isn't in Lijiang either
Who is in lijang
Lucio might be numbani
Is it a vishkar location?
Just because it's in China doesn't mean she's from there 😛
Got one right finally
Didnt lucio admire efi or some thing or was that someone else
Hog junk and ball are from junkertown
Ye
But ball is also from lunar
You have that backwards, Efi admires Lucio
And monkey from up there + the lab on Gibraltar
Pharah and ana from that desert place that I cant remember
Anubis?
Ye
Lol
What about ayuttaia
The fk is that
I think you should slow down a bit dude
I cant spell
I either have never played that or don't remember it
Ok
Zen is from nepal
Tracer is kings row
Genji and hanxo from hanamura
Hmm
Zar from volskaya
Torb?
We don't have a svedish map do we
Zarya isn't from Volskaya but she has been there
What the heck else exists
Moira
Moira is a Minister in Oasis
Is black forest the forest "near" numbani and eich?
Ohhh
But was born in Ireland obviously
Black forest is near eichenwalde
From the bastion short
it's near eichenwalde
on a different continent from numbani
Uhh
Wait but in the bastion short you can totally see both
no
Where soldier
He was in numbani
the city on the horizon in Last Bastion is Stuttgart
which is where those bastions were originally sent to attack
Soldier was raised in Indiana
No
Why do you keep saying Numbani for everything?
Llyat said numbani
🤡
@dire bridge don't spread misinformation pls
I said numbani for bastion?
Where sigma
!!shitposting @dire bridge
@dire bridge Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
What
dva is not even a youtuber
and that is clearly derailing
Oh you can't take jokes here right
Sigma is from Netherlands and he doesn't have a map
The experiment was on ISS
Llyat
we can take good ones
@woeful path have you read the wiki?
Not really lol
Reading in 2020
It states most hero's places of origin
So
This all stemmed from who do we not have a place of origin for
Cuz of your map question
xD
So
we have a place for everyone
just not an in-game map
The ISS must be much more advanced in the OW universe a map there would be cool.
Chateau Guiard is in Paris, you can see it in the background
Chateua is a ffa map
Widow is Annecy
Still a map
I could have sworn Chateau was visible from Paris
I mean, we do have a lot of chateaux in France so...
Ow HQ is shut down anyways
Watchpoint Zurich would be a cool map, all blown up and ghostly looking
The HQ has no location - the canon always said "Switzerland"
No, it's in Zurich. It's been said.
SOurce then please
How would it be in switzerland anyways
!!wiki Overwatch Headquarters
For more information about the game, please refer to the wiki: https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Overwatch
So Zarya doesn't really have a map cuz there's no siberia map
Sigma doesn't have a map
Reaper/Soldier don't either right?
Symm?
Torb? - OW2 right?
London Map? - Tracer
Haiti Map? - Bap?
Lucio - Getting Rio in Ow2 right?
Mercy - swiss map?
Torb lives in Gottenburg - and that will be a map in OW2 yeah
And no @cosmic crest Zurich was never mentionned in canon to be the OW HQ
I swear to God, I heard that somewhere
@grand wedge You need the underscore for it to post the link correctly
Zurich is only mentionned in Mercy bio
well if you heard that somewhere they were wrong too
Well, it would still be a good map regardless
Yeah
What if it were a 2cp map with doors like horizon has (even though those are airlock doors)
Where the first point was pre-destruction
And the second point was post
Even though I hate 2cp with a passion
Hannamura and Anubis are Good
Hanamura is decent
Anubis is okay at best
It's pretty hard to get double capped on hana
But on anubis it's not all that difficult
Ilios is probably the least significant map lore wise
We haven't had a Greek hero yet
One day
One dayyyy
I think a pair of greek heroes would be dope
Has Athena been linked to greece at all?
Besides "it's a greek name"
Can we do genji lore plz
Do we know if she required any special artifacts or whatnot to be made?
What do you mean by "do"?
I mean sure, what do you want to talk about?
How did he go from just some of hid limbs being cybernetic to full cyborg body
*his
I don't think he did, half of his base skin is just armour that matches the other half
oh never knew that thxs
It does look rather misleading
It annoys me that Genji has his base skin in Storm Rising, I thought he changed to his green look after he accepted his cyborg body.
I think his green look was just when he finished his black watch duties and got fully enhanced
He still had to go to Zen in his green look
That's why he is going to have clothes in OW 2 : he accepted his body as his own now - so he needs clothes
So he was naked before 😛
we have maps without heroes, and heroes without maps
Helix's HQ could be a cool map
or watchpoint grand mesa
I don't think anyone cares about Grand Mesa
It had the Pulse Rifle, and that's probably enough
Watchpoint: Grand Mesa would probably make for a good deathmatch map.
it's been so long since we had Petra and they did almost nothing with those archeologists. I have big hopes for having a playable hero from this group/guild or whatever they are
An archaeologist hero would be cool
I feel Hamid Faisal will be in OW2
who is that?
The leader of the Petra dig site.
Whose crew has ties to Ayutthaya/Ilios/Oasis
He also knows both Ana and Jack, suggesting he may have had ties to Overwatch as well
Interesting
so looping back to Genji wearing clothes in OW2 and not OW, firstly I find it very funny that there is an implication that he is in fact naked and two, I think what was said earlier about him accepting his body and then wearing clothes is interesting. I imagine for a long time he saw it simply as a weapon but after meeting Zenyatta and accepting it as a part of himself he feels the need to cover up cause he thinks of himself as having humanity again.
Genji has an interaction with Sojourn in Storm Rising about this
yeah I remember him saying his new cybernetics don't feel a part of him. I think he was refering to his new body compared to his blackwatch body? maybe
These are pretty much all of the interactions in Storm Rising. There's a couple of generic voice lines I didn't include as I felt they wouldn't add anything of value to the video, e.g. "Push the payload" "Open the door"
Hope you guys enjoy :)
So Sojourn is a cyborg too, she has an arm cannon at least.
she looks more cyberized than Genji
I would guess based on her one voice line with Genji she has a lot of cybernetics
Wonder what her story is
I think it would be interesting if she became a cyborg by choice to up her skills
no lore on it yet tho
Besides the two of them, cybernetics seem to be a bit of a taboo in the lore, Doom and Sombra got their enhancements illegally .
does it?
yeah I don't think it was stated to be illegal but looks to uncommon, I could be wrong tho
none of the other characters with cybernetics seem to have a problem with it
and Doomfist's family runs a legal prosthetics business
Haven't read Doom's bio in a while, but Sombra at least got her enhancements underground
that would make sense cause they seem to be mostly for hacking and enable illegal activities
Sombra is the only real anti-hero type character
not Soldier?
What makes Soldier an anti-hero? I think he's pretty clearly a good guy.
An antihero or antiheroine is a main character in a story who lacks conventional heroic qualities and attributes such as idealism, courage and morality.
Soldier lacks morality and idealism
he acts like a villain to achieve his goals
anti-heroes are still good guys
Sombra would be more of an anti-villain
Yea Soldier is not as Morrison back in the Overwatch Day , he clearly said somewhere that he's not really interested in joining OW again , after receiving Winston's call . He's solely obsessed with revenge for what happened and he's gonna do everything he can to reach it .
Although I won't say he lacks morality yet , he's still a good guy at heart , since he saved that girl back in the Animated Short : Hero .
but in the same scene he pummeled a guy with a flaming pinata
I'm against violence and all, but that guy was a criminal
Batman can a break a thugs arm and still be considered a hero
I don't think this is any different
Batman is also an antihero
I respectfully disagree
I suppose it all comes down to what you define a "hero" as, which is at least somewhat subjective
This list is for characters in fictional works who exemplify the qualities of an antihero – a protagonist whose characteristics include the following:
imperfections that separate them from typically heroic characters (selfishness, ignorance, bigotry, etc.);
lack of positive q...
I define an antihero as someone who does heroic things in un-heroic ways
both Batman and Soldier fight to protect innocents and save people, but do so with very brutal methods
so you think you can always do things in a "perfect" way
This is a topic I would not mind them exploring in the lore
No one does things perfectly all the time
but non-antihero heroes at least try
Winston, Mercy, Tracer, Mei all try to do their job with as little blood as possible
Soldier doesn't
compare Tracer and Soldier
when Tracer is trying to stop Widowmaker, she informs security, tries to get the authorities to help
I once had a theory that Talon was a vigilante organisation that wanted to cure injustice in the world through brutality. That theory is defunct now, but it would give the protagonists and antagonists a unified goal and maintain a core theme of heroism.
when Soldier is trying to stop Los Muertos, he just goes in and does it himself
Yeah, but Tracer ended up failing to stop Widowmaker.
(in D&D alignment terms, hero/antihero is the difference between being Lawful Good and being Chaotic Good)
doomfist is thanos
There are definitely parallels
i was wondering in the Doomfist trailer he fights with some overwatch members but winston captures him and puts him in jail but then his arm is suddenly normal???????????
You know it's a gauntlet right?
But one of the skins say that he lost his arm during the omnic crisis
He has a prosthetic arm also
oh...
it's a prosthetic arm with synthetic skin
And also how the f can tracer blink so much in animated shorts
Gameplay does not translate to lore
She can only blink 3 times in game for balancing, there is no reason why she would have that limitation in universe
Although her chronal accelerator has limited fuel, so she can't blink infinitely either
Hanzo is seen buying a cake in the Christmas comic
But that's all he's been seen doing
wtf was that about, we still don't know
What? Him buying a cake?
Ye
I'm not sure if we'll ever really find out
at this point i'm assuming he got the cake for himself cause as far as we know he doesn't really have any connection to anyone? I think his new look and maybe the cake are symbolic of him becoming his own person, doing things for himself instead of out of obligation. The only real lore we have on Hanzo is he was forced to kill Genji by the clan and seemed upset about it but convinced it was the right thing to do because that's what the clan wanted. I think it's showing him taking a step away from traditional responsibility to his family towards self fulfillment. I'm also reading into this A LOT because we have so little Hanzo lore
it's typical to buy cakes around Christmas in Japan
I think he was just treating himself
Some Hanzo lore would be nice
I would like to see what he's been up to
Are the Shimada clan still active?
I thought that Genji helped Overwatch take them down? or at least that was their goal when they saved him
If they aren't, who were those guys Hanzo took out in Dragons?
oh true yeah
I hope that in ow 2 there will be lore story missions too
isn't that what the whole game is gonna be?
That's kind of the whole point of OW2
Are the Shimada clan still active?
Its suggested that they are.
probably under new management
Is the sword displayed on Hanamura point B Hanzo's dragon blade? That's what I assumed but I've never heard any confirmation.
I think it's supposed to be Hanzo's sword
Is it ever officially said why Hanzo doesn't use his sword?
I imagine it has something to do with leaving the clan or regrets after killing Genji but I don't think we know for sure
Okay yeah I thought so just couldn't remember if it was confirmed or if that was a popular theory
it's mentioned in his voice lines in Heroes of the Storm, which isn't canon to Overwatch
but it's a likely explanation
I thought Hanzo's chosen weapon was a bow while Genji's was a sword
It seems Hanzo took to archery after he seemingly killed Genji.
From a young age, he was trained for that responsibility, displaying a natural aptitude for leadership and possessing an innate understanding of strategy and tactics. He also excelled in more practical areas: he was a prodigy in martial arts, swordplay, and bowmanship.
I more meant that he now uses it as his primary weapon
whats the soundtrack at the start of the cinematic “reunion” where mccree is eating pie

Thanks
I always get so emotionally invested into the lore of whatever game I play
Lol

!!loreguide
This is a guide for people who don't know where to begin with the lore of Overwatch. The first thing is probably to go watch the shorts. They're popular, easy to consume, and pack a lot of story and character.
Shorts Playlist: https://bit.ly/2UQyTeL
There are many comics, short stories, and blog posts as well. The most important ones are:
Binary: https://bit.ly/2IzNvJy
Masquerade: https://bit.ly/2IzNTI0
What You Left Behind: https://bit.ly/2Fh7MRz
There is also an important chain of events following Ana and Soldier 76 (and Mercy at the end):
Legacy: https://bit.ly/2DgM1jQ
Old Soldiers: https://bit.ly/2KLILTV
Bastet: https://bit.ly/2QuXHmM
Valkyrie: https://bit.ly/2CF5JVE
The rest of the stories are mostly optional. Special mention goes out to the Junkers, who have an entertaining string of stories:

read this to get started
Who's the better sniper in universe? Ana or Widow?
My bets on Widow, she shot Ana in the eye through the scope of her rifle
Ana was better
she only lost that duel because she hesitated after seeing who was shooting her
Widowmaker is probably better now
So Anna knew Widowmaker before she was brainwashed?
Widowmaker was Amelie Lacroix, wife of Gerard Lacroix, who was an Overwatch leader
so they knew each other
ohhhh
Ana thought Amelie had also been killed when Gerard was assassinated, but it turned out Amelie was the one who did it
They have similar levels of aim but Widow is much more acrobatic while Ana is more calculating
oh ok I understand now thx!
The stationary standoff from the past should have gone to Ana besides the shock factor
true
But assuming they both know the other is nearby it could be either
Depends on their positions
It seems Ana is unaware that Amelie was reconditioned, since there is an interaction were she says that Gerard was a fool for loving her.
I already know everything I just wanted to see if there was a lore channel
I’m a BIG lore head
Lol
I fricking love OW lore
If we are talking about just the lore, Sombra is probably my favourite
She plays both sides
Because
It's thought that she gave McCree intel on were to find Echo
Why not get her to get the Overwatch list instead of reaper?
Yea Sombra lore is very interesting
Reaper is a serial killer who murders former OW agents, he'd want the list for himself
Reaper sucks lore wise lol
Why did Sombra want to befriend that Russian lady(I forgot her name) during Talon's mission to kill her
Katya Volskaya
She was blackmailing her for a future favor
Her goal is to have everyone in her pocket in some way
that was 3 and a half years ago and we still don't know
No word on that conspiracy of hers either
No
I though that too
Yes
Really
Yessir
That’s a bad argument
Her lore and gameplay would bring so little to the table that D.Va doesn’t already have
Of all the Meka D.Mon is the closest to D.Va
How do you know that?
She’s too similar to junkrat
No?
Junkers from Australia
So is Roadhog but they are different in lore and very different in gameplay
wAy ToO tHe SaMe
I want to see Junker queen
She’s red
King and D.Mon bring the least to the lore since they are both directly tied to D.Va
D.Mon skin maybe
Casino is the most unique lore wise and Overlord has the flying mech
Fr they probably could
I wouldn't mind seeing Sanjay as a hero, more information on Vishkar would be awesome.
True but he seems like a non-combatant unfortunately
You could say the same about Sym
He’ll likely be relevant in Utopaea
Actually
Sym is the spec ops of Vishkar
I thought Dmon would be a main tank
Considering she could have the biggest hitbox in the game
And yup
I just want more Sym and Lucio lore tbh
Zenyatta sure brings a bunch of lore to the table...
he does
Like what
especially with OW2 for zen
Other than he’s genjis mentor
the Shambali
That we know nothing of?
not nothing
Other than the robot widow shot?
we know that they're a group of omnics who believe omnics have a soul
Just some robo monks
we'll learn more in the future
And besides every character in the game has another character that connects with them
Who D.va got?
who does Lucio have?
Lucio has Sym
^
I think it's logical to assume they have met and even fought at some point
yeah now, but before OW2 he didn't have anyone
Just saying
like in OW2 Lucio joins overwatch to save his hometown
Zarya has Sombra I guess?
do we know every single thing about every hero?
Nope
We know less about some characters than others
And some characters have yet to appear in a side material cough Lucio cough
Then the content they do give us
They give too much to some characters cough mercy cough
Mercy has her short story and that's it
Mei's lore was kinda sad
Because as of rn half of new Overwatch doesn’t know soldier 76 is jack
when I watched Mei lore video I actually teared a bit xd
He’s just a vigilante lol
I don't think any of them know, Idk why you say half
True I was being generous
yah I think no one knows
just mercy
Only ones who know is Ana and Reaper
maybe Sombra because she knows everything
True
True
Actually
Doomfist knows too
Because when reaper broke him out
He said he had wrote some ow members off the list
didn't doomfist break out himself?
Of the cell not the prison
And Doomfist asked him if he got Morrison and Amari
oh
Reaper took out several guards and brought an escape ship
The whole Talon Overseer table probably knows about Jack then
the Talon council might know
Brb
Is Sombra on the council? That would probably be an ideal spot for her
no
I don't think they would trust her
the council members we know are Doomfist, Moira, Reaper and Sanjay
and Maximilien
Would be cool if she was, would create some tension amongst them
Did talon find out that Sombra had betrayed them at one point?
Doomfist knows because Reaper told him
Doomfist isn't going to do anything about it yet - he likes her ambition
But did Sombra find out about them finding her out? Probably 😛
yea xD
widowmaker has her suspicions at least, going by the new interaction
We know Widow distrusts Sombra, but we don't know how Sombra feels about Widow
Does she pity her? She likely knows of her backstory
I dunno
she strikes me as the kind that would care deep down but not show it
I agree
We know she actively grieves for Gerard. She has lamented over him multiple times and got defensive when Ana bad mouthed him
But she doesn’t regret killing him
Why did she visit Gerard’s grave
Only that he had to die
?
She very well could
because she loved him
She still loved him
doesn't mean she feels bad for killing him
How do you love someone and easily kill them?
^
Being conditioned into a psychopath
you get programmed to be a sleeper agent
If you are brainwashed you aren’t gonna remember who they are
she wasn't in full control
even then, brainwashing doesn't always include memory modification
I get Winter Soldier vibes from Widow
Hopefully he will be in OW 2
We will probably get at least one Talon mission
I'm hyped for that, playing as the villains would be fun
I really hope that will happen too
Maybe they will fight against Helix, it would be cool to see some other Raptora soldiers
yea
Sigma, PREsent
Are Soldier's helix rockets named that way because they were made by Helix or because they travel in a helix pattern? I assumed the former.
Because he stole stuff from helix lol
because it moves in a helix pattern
it was made by Overwatch
Helix was just guarding it
Rather confusing
ah yes, I also forgot which website I'm on
does anyone?
I mean
I guess one could argue if they would've left him in the asylum he could of snapped even more and with his powers potentially destroy anything in his path
we don't know how he lost his arm
he was the teenage founder of an outlaw gang that Overwatch busted in a sting operation
Overwatch gave him a choice between jail or joining Blackwatch
he joined Blackwatch
he was basically the 2ic of Blackwatch until the division was suspended, then left Overwatch to avoid infighting
oh
Any new map location ideas?
