omg, I just realized something
those shorts on the overwatch 2 list are arranged in a chronological order
they're literally there on the timeline
so ana was shot before storm rising
I think we figured that out
wish I knew it earlier then
so reinhard's retirement and ana's "death" both happened within one year. pretty bad year for overwatch
it's a pity that not all shorts are on that timeline, from the looks of it
only the ones relevant to the story in ow2?
I guess so
btw, you're not the only one having trouble with freinds lists. i wanted to play with a freind and we were both told that we're not in the game, even thoguh we were. it seems overwatch is having some problems at the moment
some interesting lore tidbits
tl;dw - anubis will be important later on, and also ow2 focuses more on the future than the past of overwatch, but after ow2 they will explore the past someday
also jeff was strangely vague about the girl on the cover and liao being the same character
if that's hammeh he's in our other server
they weren't vague when they said that the robot in the trailer was echo
Why is widow white in her Talon skin?
makes me wonder whether the girl wasn't liao. or maybe was, but then they decided to use this design for another character?
maybe
but they don't need to say that person's not Liao
since First Strike never came out so it's not canon
It represents an earlier stage in her transition
She’s still pale but not quite purple
I thought it was an instant transformation. And if u have more details about why and how she got transformed I would appreciate it
At first it was just mental conditioning to kill her husband, she still looked normal, then she killed him and came back to Talon ready for a new challenge, that’s when they started slowing her heartrate
The Talon Snipers have a similar skin tone to her Talon skin
So she likely just took the physical conditioning to its maximum limit
Why slowing her heartbeat?
make her a better sniper
And why picking her?
They picked her before intending to make her a sniper
She was picked because she'd be close to Gerard who's a valued target
she was the wife of the guy in charge of anti-Talon operations in Overwatch
naturally she'd be a target
after that it's probably partially "we already have her" and partially because it might give Overwatch agents pause
as happened with Ana
And moira is responsible?
And with what sorts of methods could they turn her against her own husband?
brainwashing
Moira is (possibly) responsible for the physical alteration, which happened after the mental one
Depends when the physical alteration was done, since obviously Moira still worked under blackwatch until OW disbanded
IIRC didn’t widow have purplish skin already in ana’s backstory/comic?
is the name orisa a reference to the yoruba word "Orisha"
search meaning
and is efi yoruba
it is
Widow does have purple skin in Ana's story, but that was after Retribution and Moira's firing
~2 years after
Oh
hi
Wait why widows skin purple?
poor circulation from a low heart rate
I thought it was because she was a smurf.
though I guess that theory is blown out cause she's purple, not blue.
Honestly with her skin purple
I doubt anyone can get enough circulation to survive
Realistically of course
Yeah I’m not sure if Widow should be able to survive that...
Then again, this is Overwatch and takes place in the future
So that universe has its methods
Is tracer's health somehow connected to her Booster?
yes
Booster?
Where do you guys read overwatch comics?
from the site
As in, is her physical health connected to the machine on her chest?
more like physical existence
wasn't she got impaled by it?
Then why is she half dead in both her fight with widow and doomfist after its destroyed?
She needs to be near it for it to anchor her in time
Otherwise she unexists
Origin Trailers:
Tracer: http://bit.ly/2fDNQxI
"Cheers, Love! The Cavalry's Here!" The former Overwatch agent known as Tracer is a time-jumping adventurer and an irrepressible force for good. Website: htt...
Watch that for some more information
Winston appreciation gang 😩
tracer is the only one of the originals who have a origin trailer?
Yeah
hi
i'm sooo veteran, that's I'm not counting Soldier as a original hero. I remember that even back in February 2015 we were getting new heroes teasers
lol
giving all the other heroes origin trailer would help solve the "no lore" issue some of them have
They could release origin stories for the overwatch 2 cast to hype up the release. The ones that don't have any of course
oh yes! I'd love that. I have little hope for it, though
I expect no more lore for the rest of the year after echo
aside from hero interactions, which should be interesting. let's hope they won't mostly be jokes with echo mimicking other heroes for the memes
I'm stil expecting some challenges - and I hope for at least one with a short story
probably
I could see the next challenge being in June/July between Anniversary and Summer Games
in June there's gonna be The Hero of Numbani book
Ive read somewhere that echo is the last hero going to be released on ow and other heros will be released for ow2
I don't think there will be any in-game content for the book release
yes, Echo is the last hero before OW2
Then ow2 is not far from being released then
and I can imagine the cry "omg I have to PAY for lore?????!!!"
Damn right
my guess is either holiday 2020 or Q1 2021
probably next year
my guess is beta in that period of time
it's $10 novel
perhaps blizzcon this year will have news worth the wait
I really doubt things will still be bad in November
same
that's 9 months from now
but if it will, I think Blizz will make offline BlizzCon only for press/media/influencers and for the rest of folks virtual ticket streams
This virus will change our world for a couple of years. so i expect them to do like e3 and cancel it and only release trailers with streams and stuff.
i think it will effect us for years but doubt it will all be in lockdown
IDK what they'd put in a Mei Origin story that's not in Rise and Shine
they could add what she did before they went into cryofreeze
maybe how Overwatch recruited her?
her education/background?
maybe
like pictures of her as a scientist
D. Va already has a few pictures like that from Shooting Star, might be nice to see some more
I think the 76 trailer was made to confirm that Morrison was Soldier: 76
yeah
I'd really love an origin trailer like that for Reaper
show what Reyes was like during the crisis
and McCree, of course
oh, those might be nice
though it can make it harder to add in backstory later
Like if Ashe wasn't in McCree's origin
they have ways of leaving things vague
like for Ashe - we know the Deadlock gang has 4 founders, but we didn't see the faces of 2 (and even McCree was out of focus and in shadow)
yeah
even though we know who that character is, they left him vague and almost unrecognizable because the story isn't about him
is it confirmed that Liang is in echo
boners
Hey so I got the Art of Overwatch book and it showed the deadlock logo in full detail and the logo says "Est. 1976" but didn't Ashe and Mccree found the Deadlock Gang way after 1976?
It might just be concept art but idk
there's two different versions of the logo
the gang was founded ~22 years before present (McCree was about 15, Ashe was about 17)
so definitely not in 1976
my theory is that McCree stole the logo off an older biker gang
and Ashe was smart enough to at least take the date off
the version with the date only ever appears on McCree
on the back of his jacket on his Deadlock skin, and on the tattoo on both Deadlock and Blackwatch
Deadlock seems to be a conglamorate of gangs
Perhaps he was part of the Deadlock Rebels
Which then merged with the rest to become
The present day gang
I've seen a theory that the eyepatch on McCree's version of the logo stands for Deadeye
if that's true, then the 1976 could simply be the age of the town, since it's called Deadlock as well
I prefer the two gangs theory though
this video claims that jeff told some french newspaper that OW2 will be coming out in fall this year
that's strange, because he said in one of the recent videos about why echo isn't a support that they're not planning on releasing anymore heroes this year
not sure which is true now
Those aren't contradictory
Releasing OW2 in fall means no more individual hero releases until 2021
Didn't the development team said they accidentally used an older piece of art for McCree's Deadlock Gang logo?
Even if they did, they kept it for McCree's deadlock skin last year. Thjere is a reason behind why McCree has a different logo from everyone
(I believe it has something to do with the name "Deadeye" because his skull is missing an eye - even if it has nothing to do with his ultimate - it could have been a nickname or someone he knew or something)
might even have been his own
yup
Deadeye references to Ana. She was Jessie's aim teacher. Since Ana lost her eye, McCree uses a technique called Deadeye to pay a tribute to her
nobody knows Ana lost her eye, she's assumed to be dead
but it'd be a nice piece of lore if it were the reason
But how does McCree's Deadeye work, does he just close one of his eyes and then starts shooting or?
nobody knows Ana lost her eye, she's assumed to be dead
They're talking about her original eye
That she had replaced with a cybernetic eye
30+ years ago
Which is a good theory.
@mystic basin He just focuses his next shot.
Hm, I see.
Didn't she lose it while having a sniper battle with Ameilè?
She loses the cybernetic one
and idk about the theory
because why would it be "dead" if the replacement was voluntary/to improve performance
yeah, I think she got the cybernetic eye for the sake of improved performance. but I love the deadeye idea so much, I'm going to assume she lost it involuntarily and it really is a tribute to her
that's one of the best headcanons for overwatch I've heard in a while
someone contact the new lead writer and suggest it to them 😂
Either way
The eye is dead
Because its cybernetic
I imagine McCree would think the same about his arm.
if she does think that I can see how that'd influence him with the arm
I'd think Genji didn't help either
McCree: Genji, how'd you ever get used to... You know... It was hard enough for me and it was just the one arm.
Genji: It was a long and difficult road, but now, I feel at ease in my own body.
that's a later one
I'm talking about Genji's struggles when he was in Blackwatch and edgy
and yeah McCree didn't have it back then but you'd think that would stick
McCree: What's it like Genji? You know... as a cyborg.
Genji: Pain and agony. And what am I? Man or machine?
McCree: Then why did you agree to it?
Genji: I wanted to be able to walk again.
that's the one
McCree: Couple of more shots like that and they're gonna have to make me a body like yours, Genji.
Genji: I wouldn't recommend it.
Genji : Take better care, McCree. I'd hate for you to need a body like mine.
McCree : No offense, Genji, but I think I'm going to keep everything just the way it is.
I'd imagine that would fuel some of the resentment to the arm too before he knew the post-Zen genji
well, he still doesn't most likely
Back with the Deadeye thing - McCree didn't know Ana back then, he was deadlock
yeah
McCree had that logo before he knew Ana
But how does McCree's Deadeye work, does he just close one of his eyes and then starts shooting or?
watch Reunion
Deadeye isn't a special ability like Infrasight or Tac Visor, it just represents how good of a shot McCree is when he gets serious
as opposed to the rest of the time when he's just fucking around
get your shit together Jesse
he does seem like the kind of guy who goofs off most of the time
but gets scary when he's serious
serious mecree is scary i agree
mcree is just spike spiegel
With a hat
basically
Yep
from Hanzo's bio:
The Shimada family was established centuries ago, a clan of assassins whose power grew over the years, enabling them to build a vast criminal empire that profited from lucrative trade in arms and illegal substances.
drugs, weapons, assassination contracts
it seems like Hanzo was cool with what his family does, until he was driven to kill his brother
yes
he needs to forgive himself
no worries, this is the place to ask them

This is a guide for people who don't know where to begin with the lore of Overwatch. The first thing is probably to go watch the shorts. They're popular, easy to consume, and pack a lot of story and character.

Also do we know the timeline mina liao joined overwatch, till her death?
Timeline here
https://i.imgur.com/mEmNzp9g.jpg
she joined Overwatch during the Crisis, so ~30-25 years ago
we don't really know when she died
but presumeably it was while Overwatch was still active, so probably ~10-15 years ago
We don't know her age too right?
she does look older in this image
Does anyone know the lore of OW2's PvE?
we don't know what missions will be covered, but the overall story is that Null Sector has teamed up with Talon to cause another global war
I'd say in her late 40s, maybe early 50s
Fair that makes it close to the other founders
ive never rlly noticed how much ppl talk about mccree till i looked through chat here
zen lore pls

does echo view other omnics as her kind?
or like, does she think she differs from them? or that she’s superior?
we don't know yet
I re-watched Zero Hour earlier and noticed that in Winston's photo, Sojourn was wearing a jacket similar to Morrison's old Jacket.
Maybe it will be in OW2's First Archives event or a Special Edition Pre-Order.
Also, does her jacket symbolize that she is a high ranking member of OW? The only other people to have the Blue Jackets (that we've seen) are Morrison and Amari.
Cool! Hopefully we get to see more of the high ranking OW members in the future.
I really want to know who was involved in Morrison and Reyes' "Final Battle" before they both "died."
Did overwatch have regular soldiers like helix or talon?
yes
One thing I've been thinking about lately is:
Will those two kids from the first Overwatch Short be revealed as Heroes in the future?
They were kinda hyping up that Blue Hoodie bro when he started looking at Tracer in admiration after she said "You know, the world could always use more heroes."
I assume the blue hoodie boy would be on his 15's or something like that and with OW 2 coming out, maybe some 3 or 4 years have passed, that way he could maybe become a playable Hero?
Maybe I'm thinking too much but hey shrugs.
Apparently the blue hoodie kid's name is Brian.
not likely
they're kids
Blizzard would not put children as playable characters in a shooter
OW2 is only 1 year after Recall
Yeah, but Blizzard could always age at least the hoodie kid in OW 2, assuming it will be a 5 year time-skip or something
Oh.
Well that's unfortunate.
those boys were just stand-ins for the audience
I doubt we'll see them again (outside of maybe a cameo somewhere)
anduin was 10 at the start of WoW
now he's the high king leading the armies of the alliance to battle
overwatch may have a chance to last until the kids are canonically adults, too
was Anduin a playable character that you could shoot and kill?
he is now
hence why I said overwatch would have to last long enough for them to grow up\
there would have to be a substantial amount of time passing before either of them would be old enough
and even then, they're just regular kids
I iamgine blizzard isn't planning on shelving a game with 40 million players anytime soon
they're probably planning out overwatch 2 and 3 already
if each sequel is 1 year after the next, Brian wouldn't be old enough until OW4
at least
And OW4 probably won't be a thing.
bruh its been 4 years between ow 1 and 2
I think.
Most characters in overwatch were probably regular kids when they were younger
I meam, why wouldn't they get to ow3? wow and diablo have all been going on for decades
it's only 1 year between Ow1 and OW2
Except Winston, or Ashe.
also starcraft
not 4
Ashe was not regular.
blizzard likes to keep the games running for decades
yeah but is overwatch something that can run that long
well, it's still active after 4 years so
fair
maybe Timmy and Brian do something cool when they're adults and gain the attention of Overwatch/Talon/etc.
and then they might be worth making into heroes
but right now, they're just ordinary kids
They will likely never be heroes
That's why I said most not all @mystic basin
Time wont progress too quickly
Otherwise you get 70 year old Reinhardt
They'll most likely stay as kids so that the elder heroes don't just get too old
Reinhardt does look a bit more older in OW2.
Well yeah, so pretty much it's unlikely that the two kids would get any sort of possibility in becoming heroes.
Which is ok by me.
I'd be happy with seeing them as cameos later
Id be fine if we never see them again
Searching is already a bad example for returning insignificant children
?
Alejandra
she's the one who tells Zarya Sombra's name
With the discussion over those two kids, is there any indication that we will ever get the Overwatch Museum from the cinematic trailer as a playable location?
probably not
Do we think Ana will be Bastet in Overwatch 2 or will she just be Ana? I am talking design wise.
in ow2 will ana probs be helping s76 with talon
yeah
I dont think the pair will be in the main campaign
they won't be playable for missions unless they team up with at least 2 more heroes
You can play as her in the hero missions
Which are like all heroes mode
Not story based
ffs
Well, they were not far from a Talon base
And Reyes didnt even try to kill him quietly.
Symmetra is a good guy or bad guy?
She is working for a bad guy
It's complicated
But she isn’t aware of him being with the bad guys
She works for a company that's definitely bad, and buys into their message (unlike, say, sombra)
She believes she is maki g a better world
but she believes it's ultimately for the good of the people and might change her allegiance if it's revealed
but then again might not
does anybody have like
a youtube of sigmas universe song
also
does ana accept pharahs choice of joining helix now

I wonder if pharah will play a role in the story
i think helix is against overwatch and talon and null sector at the same time
so idk
Pharah may well end up joining sometime
Helix itself would be a good enemy for a mission where the players are Talon
Someone on reddit claims to have heard an interaction between Echo and jack, where jack said he regretted letting Liao create her
interesting, if true
did Echo cause an accident, or something?
I mean Liao died protecting Echo, didn't she?
We don't know - she just died in her lab
was Echo there or outside on a mission?
We don't know
Echo was there in the origin story
the logs say echo was still being built
A shard of glass like others memomry
Nope
Go check her bio
After thousands of hours in the scientist’s presence, much of Liao’s behaviors (including her speech), were adopted by the Echo robot.
Oh yeah
But why was Liao in the lab when she died
She would've been working with Echo most likely
as it shows Echo's brain develops like a childs
A child but still an AI - she sin't developing like a childs, even if she mimics her creator - she was an operating robot still being tested
However we don't know if Echo had been combat tested yet, neither do we know whether Echo was present when Liao died
because if it was part of her memories (the shattered glass) Echo must have seen it
wait so what is helix
also wtf was the whole anubis thing i know it had smth to do with a rogue ai but like
what happened
Private security firm that replaced Overwatch and gets funding from UN
ooooohhhhh
Anubis is a powerful ai most likely from crisis time that Overwatch and later Helix had to keep contained since it can take over Omnic minds
so pharah is part of helix?
Yes
woah cool
She is the only Helix hero for now
!!shitposting @marble stone
@marble stone Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
Your "italian" idea was not a shitpost
Your follow up was
Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
Wonder if we could get an Italian hero though
thats what i was saying
Italy and spain have no representation :(
was there like someone in lore who was from italy? im new to OW
maybe he could be in OW2
He's dead
All characters we've seen die have stayed dead so far
Or heard died
Shotgun blast to the face and chest
And then launched out a window
Alongside a fall into what I think was a canal
He's been dead for 8 years.
he can be revived?
Revival from death is currently not possible in overwatch
you literally have a space talking monkey
Yes
That's nice.
and an edgy dude transforming into shadow or idk
but whatever
Italy needs representation
Genetic manipulation is a very simple branch of science compared to bringing someone back from the dead after most of their biological systems have rotted away
You literally have a device that allows you to instantly talk to any person in the world as if they are in the same room as you on your person, physically, in this exact moment. Why can't you bring back the dead.
Go revive Kenny Rogers with your magic "cellular mobile device".
We are in an age where we can observe several billion light years of the universe and pinpoint planetary objects, explain the purpose of existence using this information
That's the idea of the difference between what you're comparing
a lot of countries "need" representation
Italy has more than Poland.
Italy has Rialto
Poland has the backdrop of Legacy.
And Poland has more than Portugal
Portugal has never been mentioned.
I wonder if the number of players determines the nationality of the heroes
I've seen a video showing who is the most often played hero in each country, and most countries settled on the hero that shares their ethnicity. not all, but most
we'd have a lot more Korean heroes if that was the case
we still might get some
Casino
Casino for lore
Overlord for gameplay
King for that gun
D.Mon for the people that just want another cute girl
I like King and overlord the most
Casino is cool and I know very little about d.mon
Was the ALF formed during or after the Onnic Crisis?
after
in response to the government giving the land in the outback to the omnics
after
And how long were the omnics around before the crisis began?
it doesn't say
Was Numbani an Omnium?
we don't know of that many
The closest omnium to Numbani is the Nigerian omnium
there's the one in Australia that got blown up, and the ones in Siberia, Nigeria and the East China Sea that are still active
and one was mentioned in Detroit, but the source for that is non-canon now
Can you truly consider Echo an omnic?
what do you mean?
Omnics have metal faces and their arms and legs are connected to their bodies. They are mass produced in omniums by programs. Echo has a projected face, her body is in pieces, her face shape and voice are taken from Liao, and she is the first and only of her kind. On top of this, she was created by a person, not by a god program in an omnium
If anything, shes tha anti-omnic
omnics weren't created by a god program in an omnium
Dr. Liao created the AI program that all omnics are based off of
ok
Well, that begs the question: What is an omnic?
A brand of robot made by an omnium.
Or made from pieces that were produced in an omnium
Like how a Shelby is still a Ford
But a Chevrolet is not a Ford
I always thought they were AI given a body.
technically any robot is an AI with a body
omnics are self aware - that's what differentiates them from drones
Snowball is also self aware
they used the word omnic for her now tho..
wadn't it on Hammeh's interview?
She dreamed of improving upon the original omnic designs is the only time I've ever seen it used
I know i saw it after they released her
To refer to stuff about Echo
i'm trying to find it again
Echo is now a new Overwatch hero, and she has some fascinating stories behind her development and journey to her reveal! I got to have a chat with none other than Jeff Kaplan and Geoff Goodman about Echo's development, a little Overwatch Lore and more - timecodes in the descri...
You’ve seen her before: a sleek, cyclopean omnic, hovering in the backlines of the earliest Overwatch roster art.
What the fuck
Yeah
Yeah I got nothing
i knew I read it somewhere
it's still not used in the lore
Her bio constantly refers to her as a robot
Jeff avoided calling her an omnic the first time she appeared
So, technically, Echo's not an omnic
This could be a case of
Starcraft pro D.Va
Ill wait for a second lore source before saying its a lock
Guess that means it has to be made in an omnium to count
Dva played starcraft as a pro
that was retconned
Well shes the only character outside of starcraft umiverse who is an announcer in game and one of the main focuses of starcraft is APM as stated many times by dva so I still believe she was a pro player they just decided something else for her and tried to change.
Wait, why was it retconed?
she was originally created as a StarCraft pro, but they decided to change her game to something more related to piloting a mecha
so they made up a game called Mecha Guardian V
I don't think it was said if he was pro or not, only that she could never beat him
I mean this Meka thingy just replaced Starcraft as in the Overwatch team has no good relations with the Starcraft cause as u can see the whole player icons from other games have their own names, Varian is called Varian, Kalthuzad is kelthuzad blah blah the only characters that have a "similar name" and instead of their main names are the starcraft universe characters like Kerrigan is called Queen of Blades, Artanis is called Hierarch and blah blah.
Though she sometimes seems like a solitary character, she’s supported by a lot of people around her. D.Va inherited her love for gaming from her father (who had been a professional gamer when he was younger).
Doesn't say Starcraft
And her father introduced her to Starcraft
Her father was a pro that introduced her to Starcraft
But doesnt say pro Starcraft
Im sure team overwatch and team starcraft had some problems with eaxh other but what kind? I dunno. But its obvious that team overwatch had some problems with team starcraft.
Not the other way around.
I don't think the Overwatch team and the Starcraft team have any issues
they collaborated together on the MEKA squad
Check the player icon names as I stated above and also switching dva from a starcraft player to a Meka player
I always thought and I always will that dva is a starcraft player
No matter what the story writers decide to tel us
She is a Starcraft player
Starcraft isnt the game that made her the famous champion. Its just a game she plays and is good at.
Like if tracer is short, u cant say oh shes short lets make her tall on another story u know what I mean
Also for your Kerrigan/Queen of Blades thing
Overwatch uses Kerrigan to refer to the Ghost Kerrigan
And Queen of Blades to refer to the other one
And Artanis?
And Raynor?
These are the protagonists of the game that arent called by their own names
Read between the lines bud
Raynor is called Jim
That's his name
So why is Varian called Varian?
Its not something unique to Starcraft.
Nexus is nexus
At least other games have something named afrer their own characters
Starcraft lacks it
It looks like what Starcraft tried to do was
Its like overwatch thinks they r better than others thats what I interpret
Have 1 for each Terran/Protoss/Zerg, and then 1 for each leader
I think you're reading way too much into it.
Otherwise they would have called Widowmaker's skin "Ghost"
Yea and talking about it wouldnt change a bit!
Rather than "Nova" and "Kerrigan"
Well kerrigan was for the anniversary of something I guess
And Nova
What
Im thinking youre just complaining for the sake of complaining and never played Starcraft.
But could argue about their tactics
I grew up with starcraft since I was 3
Dont need u to teach me stuff lol
Anyways talking about it wouldnt change a thing I would stop right here.
also Overlord is a SC reference
I hope the Monte Carlo map has a reference to Casino
whuts casino
One of the meka crew

question
you know in the alive cinematic when that omnic was killed by widow
would it not be possible to repair the omnic
that's a common topic that's brought up a lot
if you replace every part of your computer, is it still the same computer?
i think an omnic's head is their brain and once it's destroyed it can't be restored
also, the Shambali believe they have a soul - even if it's possible to bring him back, I don't think they would be okay with that
Dude I love widow's backstory in general
But yes I think in their world that wouldn't be acceptable cause they kind of believe that omnics are like humans
And if they passed away I don't think they'd want a replica of him
thats super morally conflicting now
Hey how do i get into the lore
I saw the cinematics
I see there are comics
Anything else?

here's a guide to the important stuff
if you want everything, I've got a list
Maybe it's possible to copy an omnic's personality and move it to a different body
But I doubt thats possible with a dead one
I have a question about Echo, if Echo was still in development by the time of Liao’s death and Overwatch’s shut down, how did she know about McCree and vice versa?
she wasn't still in development
she was used on field missions before Overwatch was shut down
that's likely how she knew Winston
she knew McCree because McCree was assigned to be Liao's bodyguard sometimes
Echo was used successfully on test missions alongside Overwatch strike teams, but Overwatch leadership was reluctant to put it into full service.
After thousands of hours in the scientist’s presence, much of Liao’s behaviors (including her speech), were adopted by the Echo robot. This secret that was known by very few, including Blackwatch agent Jesse McCree, who had, at times, been assigned to guard the scientist.
@storm phoenix hey..im.sorry for yesterday I literally just lost internet I tried adding you but it didn't go thru..
@storm phoenix id love to do it again.
@peak escarp okay, must have missed those parts
@worthy rose No advertising
is echo any good
Is the Omnium in Detroit canon?
No, it is not @worthy rose @thorn ibex
I'll fix that page in a minute, thanks for the link
It is currently not canon
k
Nevermind, it is canon. They just gave a shit source. @worthy rose @thorn ibex
Sorry for the confusion
That's Route 66
Point B
Or hold on
Im wrong about that too...
Lemme double look
looks like concept art
^
I double checked
This is 1 year before Route 66 was playable
So its probably old art of Point B
ok
Was that mccree then?
Who, the vigilante or Joel Morricone?
If the vigilante, yes.
Joel Morricone? Probably also him.
Who's joel
Overwatch
Oh
Hey, i was wondering does anyone know how D.va managed to be associated with Overwatch when all I can find is that she was with MEKA
She isn't.
Present day Overwatch is:
- Winston (leader)
- Tracer
- Mei
- Genji
- Brigitte
- Reinhardt
- Echo
- Mercy
- Lucio
- Sojourn
i know
she might interact with them in the future
I'm just wondering whether she has any connection with them atm
Historical Overwatch is:
- Soldier (leader)
- Reaper
- Ana
- Reinhardt
- Torbjorn
- Tracer
- Winston
- Genji
- Mercy
- Sojourn
- McCree
- Moira
No
She has no connection with any other hero
It would be interesting if they added another MEKA hero then like D.Mon
Why D.Mon
Rather than Overlord, King, or Casino
I don't know why she is the most popular other than girl.
Dude I just named a random one lmao
I'm just curious how she managed to end up in the game without any prior connections to any other hero
D.Mon is the only one most people can remember, because she's the other girl
World building
I only asked because she is the one I always see people asking for
And the reason is usually just "girl"
Also it’s speculated she will run into Overwatch in the new campaign
I really like the idea of MEKA squad lore so that will be great if it happens
Casino's mech looks really cool
He is also the most interesting story wise
With potential ties to Maximillien and Talon
Will others also be part of the Present day Overwatch as well like:
Mccree.
Torbjorn.
Pharah.
Soldier 76.
D.VA.
Ana.
Bastion.
Zarya.
and others as well?
they'll be in the game, and the might be involved in the story
but not everyone will be part of the OW2 story
at the very least, every hero will be playable in Hero Missions
My bad lol must have been too detached from lore
I hope Pharah, Mccree, Torbjorn, Ana, Soldier 76, and Bastion will be involved with the story.
Bastion definitely will
Seeing Mccree returning to Overwatch to help them would be kind of neat.
I suspect everyone will have a role to play in the story, be it in the good or bad or side lines
Torbjorn decided not to answer the recall, but the gameplay trailer hints that Reinhardt and Brigitte will go ask him for help
One thing is that I hope we play as Talon. Blackwatch was the only mission where you get a chance to be explore the backstory of Talon Moria and Reaper.
That would be pretty cool.
Hey um, Im new so i might not totally know all the lore and everything....but would Overwatch risk working with Bation? because he'll need to earn their trust
Torbjorn would help with that
he doesn't trust omnics, but he trusts Bastion
seeing that will put his friends at ease
I am curious to see Reinhardt's reaction to Bastion though
considering what he went through in the crisis
Will others also be part of the Present day Overwatch as well like:
Mccree.
Torbjorn.
Pharah.
Soldier 76.
D.VA.
Ana.
Bastion.
Zarya.
Of that list I would say... Probably just Bastion. MAYBE Pharah.
McCree thinks Overwatch doesn't need him
Torbjorn is retired
Soldier/Ana are doing their own thing, and Soldier disapproves of Winston's Overwatch
D.Va/Zarya are too busy protecting their own country, I don't think they would change.
Although now that I wrote that, as of searching, maybe Zarya would join too.
But I doubt it
Unlisted there, I think Baptiste and Zenyatta have a decent chance.
we don't know how she'll process the knowledge she has about Volskaya
but she did say she was going back to the front
And technically bastion is one of those that fought against the germans right?
It was in the army, but never actually fought.
Its implied that it never left its drop pod.
Wait, McCree was in Japan?
But if Ana joins again, than she could convice Mcree right?
because Mree swore that he will always fight by her side
Where did you read that ? @zinc moth ?
@thorn ibex it’s a speculation based on the article written by Joel Morricone - and since Sombra has an interaction with McCree and he says « my name isn’t Joel » . So it’s a popular theory that McCree has a pen name and it’s Joel Morricone
Cover
He has a bounty on his head
Maybe some people have more to add about this theory - I never thought about it so can’t help you there
When you put it like that, I can see why
But a blogger, of all things?
I just dont see it
Sending a secret coded message through an article and a pen name ? It could work I guess
Honestly, I don't think Zenyatta would probably join the next Overwatch, he seems way too Lawful Neutral you know?
He is a good guy, but I don't think he would involve himself in an organization, maybe he would help them, but I do not think he would "join" the Gang.
But that's really just what I think.
I agree @mystic basin
Yeah we know so far that Genji will meet his master once again in OW2 based one of the scenes in the trailer, which begs the question, what will happen in that scene?
Will Genji come to spar with his master?
Will Genji recruit his master to OW2 (I don't honestly think so.)
Or will Genji just meet his master to see how he's doing?
@grand wedge, I saw it in an animation, Mcree was sent to Ana's office (This was when Overwatch hadn't shut down) and they had a whole conversation and it as great and everything (Mcree was young and ana was.....younger) and he swore that he would fight by her side
It could have been an non reliable source, idk
I was looking at the reunion vid and I heard Ashe say “ILL GET BOB TO RIP OFF YOUR OTHER ARM”
other arm
How did mcrees right hand get ripped off?
Obviously by bob but when and why
Who gave him is robotic arm?
Who gave him the robotic arm? Probably Overwatch.
Didnt one of the writers say McCree's arm wasnt ripped by Bob?
@elder pawn no bob didn’t cut Jesses’s arm it’s been confirmed
It’s just Ashe being dramatic and threatening him.
Jesse probably lost his arm after leaving Overwatch because Torbjorn is surprised he is missing an arm
Same with Echo - she wasn’t aware he had lost an arm when she woke up.
I take my bet on a Talon Assassin, but we don't know yet.
@elder pawn it’s okay, this channel is meant for lore questions 🙂
not knowing is perfectly fine
it’s not wanting to know that we have an issue with
@mystic basin Maybe Genij will visit Zen because the conflict with Null Sector's messing with him mentally.
It's a war between man and machine and Genji's technically both
Oh that's an actually good point.
But the thing that intrigues me the most is Zarya.
After the end of her comic they were hyping her up to stop hating the omnics..
But with this conflict we might have some more lore for her.
I did want to know
That was the point of the question marks
And the questions
And the point of me typing in #lore-discussion
@iron plume
Yes
which is why it's fine
a lot of people come here with wrong ideas and then refuse to accept they're wrong
Searching was my least favorite comic
Mainly because the kid from the Dorado short knew alot about Sombra
I mean how would she even know?
Searching have flaws yeah
@thorn ibex she probably knows Sombra personally
Sombra is probably a frequent customer of the bakery
Maybe Genij will visit Zen because the conflict with Null Sector's messing with him mentally.
why would Genji feel conflicted? he has no allegiance to Null Sector - he is human
Im pretty sure Genji had trouble coping with his cybernetics
He does talk about them negatively during Retribution and it's the most convincing reason as to why he's with Zen
yes, it's an important part of his story
but it has nothing to do with NS
hi
Yep, and in OW2, he's basically comfortable with his cybernetics. Hence the hoodie and puffy pants.
In the comic "Searching" Lynx produces a screen like thing connecting people to Sombra's symbol on a map, It shows Widowmaker, Reaper, Soldier76, and a fourth person. Does anyone know if there's information about that fourth person aside from the profile phote?
Alright thatnks, the picture was a bit to small for me to recognize her I guess
*thanks
@timid eagle but wouldn't that also show he's insecure since he's wearing clothes that hide his body really well.. puffy pants and a hoodie?
he didn't wear clothes before because he didn't feel like his robot body was his body
Ooooh
now that he sees it as part of himself, he wears clothes
Yep. The point being, Genji treated his cybernetic prosthetics with full distain for that reason.
But in OW2, he's at peace for whom he is.
Hence the new wardrobe.
I have a head cannon that the bakery in Dorado was Sombra's foster home after she was orphaned.
Why
To explain why Alejandra knew who she was
With much of her country's infrastructure destroyed, she survived by utilizing her natural gifts with hacking and computers.
After ░░░░░░ was taken in by Mexico's Los Muertos gang, she aided it in its self-styled revolution against the government```
Either way
I dont think she had a foster family
I think she was just raised on the streets
or in an orphanage (which is just as bad)
@iron plume I never said I was wrong I clearly said “Oh okay, sorry I guess I didn’t know” which means, “Thank you for telling me”
You said sorry.
They said don't be sorry, because you didnt do something worth saying sorry for
Then explained what would be worth saying sorry for
End of discussion
Move on
Can someone explain Sigma's origin story to me? I didn't really get anything in the origin video
he was an astrophysicist who wanted to harness the power of a black hole
his experiment on the space station backfired and fractured his mind
he ended up in a government facility, and was "rescued" (kidnapped) by Talon
Do you know what the violence part of Sigma is? There's the violence, professor, and prisoner thing
I don't get how he keeps changing between the different versions
that's just a visual metaphor for the brain damage he suffered
he doesn't have multiple personalities
Ooooh
he perceives things differently because of the black hole affecting his mind
so the origin trailer is out of order to represent that
"The black hole pulled together different versions of himself from other dimensions" is what some guy told me
I'm not Aizawa but I'm always tired and stressed
Sadly im not a badass
Or cool
Or attractive in any way
most people think he has split personalities
Just a tired stressed guy
but the devs clarified that he doesn't
not only his toes 😉 🍆
That's always been one of the more questionable design choices they made for Sigma.
their reasoning for it is . . . questionable
they should have just said he doesn't need shoes because he floats
or he doesn't like wearing shoes
Hey, what do you guys think about roadhog and junkrat's orgin?
what do you mean?
like
I saw an animation where roadhog says something about he needs to be withjunkrat after all that has happened to him
what happened to junkrat?
we don't really know
Do you think it might be something about the ALF?
But there were some who survived. Calling themselves the Junkers, they scavenged the husk of the omnium and formed a lawless, cutthroat society in its shadow. Junkrat was one of them, eking out a living reclaiming metal and components from the ruins. Like many others, he was affected by the lingering radiation. This touch of madness made him ideal for handling dangerous explosives, a love which he turned into an obsession.
he was among the people affected by the omnium going nuclear
oh
really? then the animation was probably a fan made rip off
read the comic "Wasted Land"
oh oke, thanks!
yeah, it was fan made
I mean, becoming bipolar from a blackhole tearing your mind apart is one thing.
But making reference to A Beautiful Mind's depiction of a mathematician dealing with schizophrenia, a la equations floating about? Really? And don't get me started with the whole "Sigma's bare feet helped sell that asylum look a bit more" bit.
it was poorly handled
Trust me. When you’ve been in the mental health system for a good chunk of your life, it’s easy to see how parts of that experience have evolved into common cultural tropes and archetypes.
And how most of that becomes a shorthand for unpredictability, violence, or loss of control.
it was clearly written by people who don't have that experience
Yeah...
Understatement of the century.
But I'll stop with the negativity, as this isn't the place for it.
Point being, they could've handled Sigma's backstory and character with more grace and doing a bit of homework. Mental Health shown in commercial media rarely has it's grace periods.
tbf they dont need to right a william shakespear backstory with 9999 layers to please all parties
hes a fictional character that can fly and make rocks pop out of thin air
we are past the point of trying to keep it semi-realistic (referring to him being a bit nutty from the blackhole thing and how some people are not happy with that)
It's a game with a story.
its totally fine to be bothered about it obviously
They are trying to make Sigma fit in the story.
As a result
Sigma fits in the universe
He has a place in the lore that is reasonable and abides by what is expected of the Overwatch universe.
personally i think blizzard dont care that he isnt a very accurate depiction of... whatever he's supposed to be a blatant exaggeration of. because it makes him a more interesting character, and thats what matters (lore-wise) at the end of the day in a world like overwatch. im not saying its unjust to complain about the way his character was handled this is purely just me saying i think blizzard dont care either way
Can you rephrase that sentence.
He isnt supposed to be anything
Its an artifical mental illness
He was literally mindbroken by gravity
pretty much what i think but wherever i look people are saying he is a version of XXXXXX random thing that i dont know about lmao
They went out of their way to make it a fictional problem
If you want a hero with a real mental problem
Symmetra is autistic
that could probably silence about half the people moaning about sigma 🤣
i was more intending what i said ^^^ to people like the last people to talk in the chat before i did
You are entitled to an opinion, like everyone else is.
Haha
I looked up Echo's quotes page on gamepedia, and there are some lines where she namedrops other heroes:
final blow:
(vs McCree) Not today, Jesse.
(vs Genji) Sorry, Genji. I've been practicing.
Melee Final Blow:
Watching Winston payed off.
so that's a confirmation that she was on active duty at the same time when winston was - somewhere between uprising and storm rising
it's also interesting that she only has killing interaction towards mccree and genji, and she doesn't comment on the death of any other hero in the game, including the other Strike Team members
could this be a hint that she was close friends with these two in particular?
well, maybe
being awake at the time Winston was on the old strike team wouldn't really fit with her other lore
given that I doubt Liao was alive during uprising (though TBF she could've just been off-screen then)
echo was still active after liao's death
ok
"After Liao was killed in an attack on her laboratory, Overwatch, reluctant to continue pursuing the project without its progenitor, shut everything down and placed Echo in quarantine."
doesn't that suggest Echo wasn't on after Liao died?
dev update video implies that there was brief period of time between liao's death and echo getting shut down
I emna, liao could still have been alive but offscreen during uprising, of course
but it's also possible that she was dead already
theyve said that not everything the heroes say in-game are canon, and theyre more "what if", they brought up the example where reinhardt says "traitor" when he kills reaper but he canonically doesnt know that reaper is reyes
i think that comment is more of a joke line, considering winston's ult and fighting style in general
"dr liao was killed in an attack on an overwatch facility, but the echo project persisted"
@lament prawn there's gonna be a hole if rein mentions reaper being a traitor in OW2 Co-Op.
echo killing genji isn't canon, but that's stilla what-if then
well, you're not gonna be fighting reaper in the story missions
most heroes have these killing blow lines towards characters they had a close relationship with
I don't think it's a joke line
it doens't sound like one
why would she joke about watching winston, if she's never done that?
it's not a very funny joke then
im not trying to prove or disprove whether or not she's seen winston fight before, its clear in the shorts that they at least knew each other one way or another
and i dont mean she's cracking a joke, i mean its a fun line to us the audience because we know how winston fights and it would be a fun line regardless of whether or not she canonically saw him fight
it still doens't make sense if she didn't see him fight
