oh HAHA i gotchya
some people accuse him of using Genji as his self-insert, but that's probably the racism talking
dafuq?
I thought Moira was his self interest.
But at the end of the day. Hes the lead writer. So he can do what he wants. I suppose
So like the thing about chu is; He's like the jeff of the lore department, when there's a drought or something ppl don't like; they will point to him and say fix it even if it's an entire team
Also his initial writing for bastet wasn't very good but has improved by other writers
Also he has a tendency to post ramen pictures or vacation pictures or travel pictures and people want lore so it makes it appear as if he's not working
he isn't obligated to post lore on his personal Twitter
So hes not allowed to post stuff about is own personal life on is own personal twitter??? lul
He'll post lore if theres something big coming up like a comic or Short story. Then He'll talk about the little thing about them for a bit after they happen.
he used to post a lot more
but around last summer he stopped
maybe he got tired of the harrassment
He shouldnt have to tolerate it. I imagine he just obviously ignores them
especially if its about dumb shit like shipping.
it's a little harder to ignore when some of those involve death threats
^
Chu gets sent death threats or threats to get him relieved of his post after anything lore related comes out (at least in recent memory)
Oh shit. I never saw death threats.
Imagine threatening to harm someone over two fictional characters.
People get too invested in the story and don’t like it when it doesn’t go their way.
It’s pretty unfortunate
Overhyping basically
It's when you want something specific (in which was never promised) to happen.
this is why there are so many complaints of "retcon" or "inconsistency"
the community gets so attached to their headcanons that they forget they're not canon
(or they choose to write their own canon because theirs is "better")
Hello
Hi
Have references to “Kurjikstan” been made outside of Destroyer?
Also, it’s strange because all of the other countries in the OW universe seem to mirror the real world.
Where is sigma from exactly?
Isn’t he Dutch?
So he would be from the Netherlands.
Yeah, the wiki says he’s Dutch.
Also lists his former base of operations as The Hague.
How did talon find him?
we don't know yet
there might have been Talon moles in the facility where he was being kept
@zenith prawn We have not heard of the country outside Destroyer.
do you guys think that talon's manipulated members, sigma and widow, were just killers/insane people underneath that just needed the push from talon? or do you guys think they were completely ordinary people before they were manipulated?
i think this was asked before by me
but i can't remember
they were not "insane" before Talon's interferance
Amelie Lacroix was a ballerina
Siebren de Kuiper was an eccentric astrophysicist
As far as we know
Talon didn't fuck with Sigma's mind
They just helped him harness his power.
I never liked the "oh, they were just a killer waiting to be let out" trope
I would like to know more about Amelie's life before Talon
i want to know more about sigma before blacc hole incident
it seems like he did know mei and dr. winston, according to interactions
Mei?
in one of the interactions he says "dr. zhou", forgot the rest of the interaction
he's familiar with her work, but not friends with her
voice lines don't always represent canon relationships
plenty of heroes have interactions who have never actually met
i know we're probably not gonna hear a lot about ashe concerning OW2 but i really do wanna know more about her and her gang
I the route 66 map you can find talon weapons in the final area of the map meaning the deadlock gang might have a acquaintance with talon.
Well, the game has no real canonical connection to the story, right?
thats just for the more unbelievable stuff i think some inferences can be made from whats in game
canonical connection is quite hard to tell, but considering that Overwatch 2 will feature story parts more often, I would assume that story might become more canonical in game, but for the current game, not so sure to be fair
Blizzard has always blurred the lines
I think it’s reasonable to assume that there are some references to the story in the game
But I doubt the validity of most of them being canon
@spark scaffold could easily be the deadlock gang was able to steal some talon's equipment
There are canon things in the maps - but the objectives we play on the map are not the story - even if the maps are based of canon location/background
Like Hollywood : HAL Fred GlitchBot is a famous omnic film director that recieved threats - hence the escort - but none of the heroes are actually ecorting him you know? Thjat's just for the game mode
^^
Mhm
@fresh tundra The gameplay is not canon itself, but it suggests canon
For instance
Tracer and Widowmaker will never team up
Well yeah
There’s references to things that are canon, but like insofar as gameplay and whatnot goes nothing’s canon right?
A lot of the interactions are between heroes who have never met
Mhm
But they give insight into the character's history, views, and relations
Right
The gameplay isnt canon
A lot of abilities are, but not all.
For instance, Mercy's rez doesn't bring back the dead.
Its just a heal.
She used it on Mei in Zero Hour
Also, the only healing that is canon at this point is Mercy's biotic tech (and everyone who uses it)
And in an unknown way, Zenyatta's form of healing
But even with that, you can't heal an arrow through Doomfist's skull.
Thanks for the explanation
That's just gameplay
Mhm
we seriously need a zenyatta lore
we know so little
would it be late now to release a lore for a character who came out 4 years ago?
he's going to be featured in OW2
he hasn't been relevant up until now
so there wasn't any need to give him lore
i mean
they just showed genji returning to him
also thank god he didn't get a redesign
he will
He is getting one
everyone will
Everyone is getting one
i don't want him to wear a hoodie
He wont
because not all the redesigns are ready yet
just saying so far he's the same
So
I think Zenyatta might get some different robes or something
Mercy wasn't wearing her redesign in Zero Hour
neither was Brigitte
true
Torb and Bastion are getting redesigns, but in the gameplay trailer, we didnt see them
hopefully the design is better since i love his original design already
yeah and that too^
do you like genji's btw?
sure
he's obviously open to the new world
unlike his brother
but the design itself looks kinda worse (my opinion)
before, Genji didn't wear clothes - he saw his robot body as separate from himself, and it functioned as clothes
now he accepts his body, and as such he covers up his body
He accepts his body as his body
He went around naked before because he didnt think of himself as naked, because he didnt think of the machinery as his body
Now he does
So he wears clothes
they showed his struggle wether to accept himself as a human or not
yes
i don't like his bw skin too btw
they've done a good job of showing his path from getting the body and hating it to finding acceptance with himself
maybe zenyatta returns to his fellow shimbali brothers and he wears like mondatta in his new design
a sari/robe
it will show us if they still accept him as one or not
but aren't the shimbali on top of the Himalaya mountains?
Yes.
Zen left the Shambali because they disagreed on the method of spreading their message
so yeah him being in india isn't too far from the Himalaya mountains
Mondatta wanted to stay remote and spread the message with sermons and speeches
Zenyatta wanted to go out and be among people, take the hands-on approach
yeah
that's pretty much everything we know about him
acctually i have heard a quote about him saying that he wants to rejoin his shimbali brethren that IF they still accept him as one
so he does want to return to them
sounds like he's just concerned that the Shambali won't want him to visit, since he left
he's not wondering if they would take him back

The gameplay isn't canon.
we were just discussing the lore when you interrupted
anywho
i do agree with zenyatta's ways more than the shambali's
but i have nothing ofc agianst mondatta
although he should've used transcendence right before widow shot him
Mondatta?
there's no evidence that suggests he could even do that
Transcendence probably isn't canon
Zen's orbs and transcendence (probably?) aren't canon
I feel like the extra hands made up of energy could be canon
and that they might, at least, show up as "echoes" of his movements in an animated short, if he ever gets one
like in this emote
his Dance emote in general basically feels like a sample of how he could move while fighting
just curious if this was a lore fight who would win hanzo or widow asking because of the little interaction they have in spawn didnt really think on it too much until now my money is on hanzo
it depends on the situation
if Widowmaker has a clear shot and Hanzo doesn't know she's there, Widow wins easy
likewise if Hanzo has the drop on her, Hanzo could take her out before she even knows he's there
but if they're both aware of each other and it came down to close combat skills, I think Hanzo might have the advantage
yes but remember widows ult wont harm hanzo hanzo’s will and he can see through walls as well with his arrow
Hanzo's dragons are big and slow though - he'd have to fire them pretty close or else she'd just get out of the way
and if Widow has her infravision, she'd know where he is and be able to dodge it
ye good point
Hanzo has the edge if it isn't a shootout - he probably has better hand-to-hand skills than Widowmaker
yeah prob since hes a ninja and she prob just got sniper training
she does have hand-to-hand training - we see her take out some guards in Alive
but it isn't her specialty
o i forgot about those guards lol i mean it was all about tracer vs widow for me haha but u right
if roadhog is 400 lbs, how much food did he eat to be at that weight
did he just go to golden corral and sit there for all three meals or what?
people don't gain that much weight from one meal
no but did he do it every day or what?
that's a lifetime of eating combined with genetics and lifestyle
and possibly radiation from the omnium
maybe
My own personal theory is that he paid for one meal at golden corral and just stayed there and never left, until overweightwatch came and took him away.
!!shitposting @errant flame
@errant flame Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
none of what you said makes sense
how does it not make sense?
Roadhog isn't part of Overwatch, they didn't make him do anything
what even is a "golden corral"?
I thought he was
my bad
also golden corral is an all you can eat buffet
there is no explanation on his weight
a person can't just sit and eat forever and expand
does there need to be?
there's no explanation about why Reinhardt is tall
he didn't
he didn't "just become" that weight
he was probably a large man all his life
we don't know
so?
there are people in the world heavier than that
heaviest human being ever recorded was a man who weighed 1,400 lbs
400 lbs is nothing
yes but that really isn't attributed to genetics
he must have done something to become like that over time
a quick google search tells me that a man weighing 400 lbs isn't uncommon
yes
that's what I'm saying
of course
you're suggesting he ate one meal and suddenly gained 400 lbs
but what did he do to be that big?
no not at all
I'm just wondering how he did it
what does anyone do to gain weight? not exercise, eat too much, etc.
yes
King-Size Homer
S07E07
"King-Size Homer" is the seventh episode of The Simpsons' seventh season. It originally aired on the Fox network in the United States on November 5, 1995. In the episode, Homer despises the nuclear plant's new exercise program, and decides to gain 61 p...
the Simpsons explained it years ago
but in overwatch they usually have explanations for these types of things
i know
Im just wondering you see
Yes
like Reinhardt being tall, Brigitte being a redhead, etc.
no
i see
most American's know what golden corral is, its kinda just like a very unhealthy place to eat
true
idk, maybe jeff kaplan or micheal chew will explain it one day
hopefully in a comic
I doubt it
me 2
Its not something worth explaining
Roadhog is large
He has lots of fat and muscle
i hope we get Maximilian as a playble hero one day
not with that suit tho
hopefully he has some combat outfit
And I think that this world needs many non-playable characters.
Look, if Blizzard introduces a new person with making them as a hero in mind, then story would suffer. Maximilien is great as a NPC. And I hope that such characters as Junker Queen would end up as an Announcer, choosable replacement for Athena
Could be that roadhog has a similar build to what you see in a fairly large amount of weight lifters today
In playable demo of Push mode there's no Athena. Tekarda Mondatta is the Announcer. And I wonder if it tease a new option to change the Announcer at will. It would be a great way to explore many characters that don't fit as a playable Heroes.
Hell yeah
That's be cool
Athena is neutral. I think new announcers shouldn't just say same stuff but with their voice. They should add stuff that reflects their psrsonality. Imagine Junker Queen as a Announcer:
"Objective A lost. Hmph... pathetic..."
Defeat!? YOU CAN DO BETTER!!!
The team has been rolled, like stones down a stream
"the payload is in motion"
"the payload is tranquil"
"your team has achieved transcendence"
I love when Halfred Glitchbot talks in his car and comments what is going on.
And of course Papa Jeff
yeah
Mondatta as an announcer would be pretty great if only for the voice
what does sigma say at the very end of his origin story?
gravity is a harness , i have harnessed the harnsess
after that he says something and it's in reverse
has anyone decodified it?
decodified?
I'll play the last part in backwards and I'll tell you
it's not hard
he says release me

@waxen siren This channel is for serious discussion strictly related to the lore of Overwatch. Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
I'm really curious about that omnic shown at the end of storm rising
he looks promising
hopefully they do him right
@chilly peak The difference between Max and the Queen is that the Queen is a former Gladiator. Max is a suit who does not do any fighting himself
yeah
max doesn't fight
wish he could cause he looks cool
but then we have a similar one at the end of storm rising
i mean genji was handling max like nothing

Max as a hero would have been great, but yeah, he doesnt have an abilities to do so. He is a money and brain guy, therefore can pay himself out. However I would be greatful for more omnic heroes (mysterious guy that doomfist talked to at the end of storm rising)
Hey is there a way to change red and blue thing on a game for console? Because i see that on a lot of other people stuff.
Colorblind options
Forreal?
That is an interesting point though, is there a hero that might have colorblindness as well 👀
Moira has heterochromia and Ana has a fake eye
what
or rather modified
Also Winston or Hammond might not have certain colors I don’t know how their genetics work
I didn't know that

Yeah true about the animals, moira and ana is canon yeah
reads everything about gorillas and hamsters now
heterochromia doesn't have much to do with how one sees
Doesnt reinhardt have a scar over one eye as well that could relate to issues with his eye?
there's a lot of damaged eyes in Overwatch
for being such an important body part, they really dont care much about their eyes it seems XD
If you want a hero with cybernetic eyes, you've got Sojourn to look forward to
and mei and winston wear glasses as well
And Mercy
so does Mercy out of her suit
in the dr. ziegler skin right?
have we seen Sigma wearing glasses?
I may be confusing it with Harold but I’m not on to look at the sprays
Dang ok
His eye is visibly dead
Why wouldn't he get it repaired though?
As punishment for what happened to Baldrich?
Or remembrance
something to remind him of his recklessness
I feel like at least one of the heroes in the game right now is 100% blind and we just don’t know it yet and it hasn’t been mentioned
But still, blizzard pulls stuff out of nowhere sometimes, so it’s still a possibility
Maybe Zen if anyone at all
We really don’t know much about him and he is a spiritualist
so, ana and rein only have one working eye
and even if, of course there will be some out of nowhere content. you can't possibly foreshadow absolutely everything , especially ideas that you've gotten just recently. the story and the characters are still evolving pretty much
I'd be interested in a blind hero just as long as it doesn't affect their view in the game

oh thats nice to know! for the longest time i thought the lights on his forehead were his eyes, similarly to bob's little LED beady eyes
I always thought he didnt have eyes
if you can even call an omnic's optical sensors "eyes"
Eyes are essentially optical sensors just exceptionally advanced and complex ones
Hmmm considering orisa, bastion and zenyatta's optical sensors compared to other eyes, is kinda weird, even though windows ultimate "eyes" is still something similar and more of an additional vision to the normal eyes
The funny thing is that junkrat hasn’t blown out any of his
Everyone one thought sigma was blind when he was leaked

And genji might be blind as when you see his eyes in the dragons short they look kinda warped
I'd say they were definitely repaired
I doubt it's possible even in the overwatch universe to make movements like that whilst being blind
Unless technology is so advanced that it can give you something similar to echolocation
he's not Daredevil
Genji's eyes do seem functional, they just have scarring on the skin around them
When the war between overwatch and talon happens what side do you guys think neutral characters will pick
they won't pick a side
and it's not Overwatch vs Talon, its Null Sector vs the world
Its reasonable to assume that every non-Talon character would take up arms against Null Sector
If not travelling the world, at least locally
Even those who would never team up with Overwatch, like Ashe or Junkrat/Roadhog, won't miss the opprotunity.
Ashe for reasons that its some hostiles on her turf
Junkrat/Roadhog hate bots
So is talon with null sector?
Didn’t that omnic doomfist was talking to say his kind was wiped out?
Doomfist said he fights for his kind
Savior and Scourge
do we have any information on who was the strongest
Can’t you see pictures of savior and scourge in a map
i believe we can
I think the pictures are in Hollywood
For more information about the game, please refer to the wiki: https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Doomfist_(title)
In Junkrat’s lore he fonds treasure which are secrets do you think they could be valuable during the war?
*finds
possibly
If the secrets are valuable then boths sides would want him and if he doesn’t join talon they would probably send an assassin to kill Junkrat because of these secrets
Am I right or wrong
not many people know he found something
Probably not

Its also pinned
everyone who knows about it assumes it's a physical treasure with monetary value

Could it be an omnium reactor/core if those exist?
the one in the Australian omnium was detonated
I think it might have something to do with how the omniums reactivated after they were shut down
I don't like the fact that many mysteries were teased like 4 years ago and Blizzard hasn't touch them since then. Such as mentioned Junk's treasure
or glowy cube from Train Hopper comic
and I don't say about revealing those mysteries, but something that would remind us about them, like another teaser. Maybe a conversation during pre-match. Like McCree asking Sombra about pink cube
the cube from Train Hopper was just supposed to be a story-specific Maguffin
there's a lot of stuff they haven't gotten to
things they're probably saving for when they can tell the story they want to tell
one thingi noticed in the overwatch 2 trailer: in reunion, mccree tells echo to say "hello to the monkey", which he soon corrected himself to "scientist", and in the overwatch 2 trailer, when echo comes, she goes "hello winston!", so echo did what mccree asked of her
nothing important, just interesting to point out
yes, it was a neat detail
what hero do you guys think will be getting lore next? like we seem to be getting lore for heroes once a mini-event comes out and i think one might come out before the lunar event or after it, i think it'll be zen or lucio, maybe even sigma
I wanna know more about bap
I want sigma to me hes such an interesting hero
I second Pharah
I want to see more about Helix
Not Pharah specifically
But she goes hand in hand with more Helix
I want to see Pharah confront her mother about being alive, and/or struggle with the fact that the Overwatch she once admired was now breaking a law that she is obligated to enforce
I’m expecting zen to get at least a little new lore before ow2
Genji seems to be meeting him in the temple at Nepal in the trailer but in game he wonders if he’s even welcomed back there
Maybe a short story bridges the gap there
has there been a pattern in the mini events in terms of what heroes are chosen?
Ana Baptiste Mercy... the only pattern if we can call that, it’s ex-OW member, ex-Talon member, ex- OW member? Not sure it’s a pattern
I’m expecting Zen lore this year because Jeff told us « zen lore blizzard soon » and maybe McCree because Chu talk about Mercy and him on his Blizzcon interview and she got a story so ... we’ll see !
He stated that 'Blizzard soon' means at least 2 years. So don't count on this years
Oh really ? Where/when? Didn’t catch that! The only thing that he told us was long term was for the Junker Queen....so it’s her I’m not expecting her until 3/5 years tbh ^^
he was on stream with a youtuber, forgot who, then told them that there was something being announced "soon" but warned that it was "blizzard soon, which is about 2 years"
then the youtuber said "i thought it'd be more like 10 years" and jeff was like "no that's valve soon"
so that's where we got the "blizzard soon" thing iirc
Yeah I saw the stream but if he really meant 2 years, that means OW 2 will probably be there before Zen lore and I doubt he would tease it like that when they know zen has no lore since the beginning
And it was seagull for sigma release
if zen lore was being begged for so much at the time then maybe it was a way to shut people up regardless of whether it was part of OW2 or not, but yeah i dont see him teasing it casually like that when its part of OW2
that's like, teasing zen lore when in reality we're getting an OW movie with a short zen scene
unless zen was the main character
it was Seagull's birthday stream where they showed off Sigma
and it wasn't "at least 2 years"
it was "within 2 years"
so Zen lore could be any day now
Thanks for the source like always *^
Jeff was probably thinking of OW2 when he said this
also, in a Storm Rising stream with ohnickel, Jeff once referred to Overwatch as "Overwatch 1"
I don't think anyone on the stream caught it, but I did
Has every new dps added to the game been a 'villain'?
I guess so
but out of the release offense/defense heroes, only 2 were villians

Well yeah, but Mccree was also in blackwatch for a time
Criminal leader
Everyone in blackwatch became horrible except Genji the snitch
Blackwatch was still ultimately on the side of “good”
Was blackwatch a criminal organisation?
No
McCree left when it was revealed after Venice
Blackwatch did illegal things, but they were still part of Overwatch
But everyone recruited became part of Talon
no?
just like how Blackwater (was that what it was called?) was part of the US Military
Well, overwatch is technically a criminal organisation right now
out of four we know two did
Sigma wasn't in Blackwatch
the four members of Blackwatch we know of are Genji, McCree, Reaper and Moira
only 2 of those joined Talon
it's implied that other Blackwatch members joined Talon as well, but we don't know their names
I don't think Baptiste was part of Blackwatch considering he only chose Talon because it meant survival
Wonder if they'll get revealed
Baptiste was never in Overwatch
Got it
although now that he's broken off with Talon, he might seek them out
Baptiste was busy trying to survive
Wait @peak escarp WHAT??
read the short story What You Left Behind
the only heroes that were in both Blackwatch and Talon are Reaper and Moira

the short version is: Baptiste defected from Talon 4 years ago and has been on the run until his old squadmates track him down and pressure him to do a mission with them. During that mission Baptiste finds out about the Recall, decides 'to hell with Talon' and rescues their target. The story ends with Baptiste calling up Sombra to help him get in touch with Mercy, who he had worked with in a relief camp in Venezuela a few years ago
Oh
Cool thank you
I mean I still went through the time to read it but cool ^^'
But yeah
I am very excited to see how everything plays out
Mercy is still in Egypt several months later, so we don't know if Baptiste ever gets to her
Maybe Sombra is slow at times or Mercy has good passwords
she wouldn't need to hack mercy to contact her
or maybe they did meet and Mercy decided to stay where she was, despite the danger
or Baptiste hasn't gotten there yet even if he knows where
it seems strange to me that he wouldn't go see her immediately, with how urgent he seemed in the story
I'm just wondering how they'd go about that story, since Mercy joining up with OW, I feel like that whole story with Baptiste was a bit of a waste tbh
Other than introducing Mauga
the point of the story wasnt just "hey this is how i met mercy"
its "this is my journey escaping talon and taking a step towards overwatch"
and i doubt he'll just one day show up in overwatch with no explanation, they must show us what happened with him and mercy
it was to show Baptiste doing the right thing despite pressure from his past, proving that he's really a good guy at heart
I was going to say we haven't had a story from the perspective of any bad guys, but then I remembered Alive
What about sombra's reveal cinematic?
Sombra is . . . complicated
she's on the bad guy's side, but she is more of a rogue element
there's hints that she may be playing both sides to further her own goals
I don't see her as a villain
more like an anti-villain
calling her a villain would be too much
but if you had a scale from villain to hero, i dont think she'd land smack in the middle
leaning toward villain, but not there
Don't really know much about her morals either, if you think that changes it
i mean
"ill find who really runs the world, then, ill be the one pulling the strings"
she's definitely not out to help people
and it sounds like she isnt just there to stop the baddies
more like take their power
i think its too big of a deal to not exist
she further emphasizes the conspiracy and its power in the searching comic
her attack on Lumerico was supposed to be "for the people"
did it help her with her conspiracy thing?
when it comes to her morals i think it really depends on why she was hacking in the first place, before she was found out. you dont get exposed to a conspiracy then crave world domination. was she initially hacking for money, or to call out the corruption in the big names?
I think she was tackling corruption
Wonder if she wishes to control governments to prevent them from ruining countries badly, could be caused by her being an orphan of war and would be a reason for her to 'tackle corruption'
I have a really specific lore question.
Prior to the release of the game, did anyone (as in, us, the players) know about the Second Omnic Crsis?
the Russian front is part of it, so yes
it was revealed with Zarya
I dont think so
There's a mention in the 'Recall' trailer
Blackwater isn't the black ops division of the US military, it's a private contracting firm which has done questionable things in the middle east
So they'd be more like Helix
no video, but she was introduced as a fighter against omnics in russia's war
What info was there prior to the game's release on that?
We knew that Russia was fighting the Omnics from Zarya's bio
Blackwater?
Is that a mercenary organisation?
Or something like an army for hire?
He meant Blackwatch @pliant sparrow
oh
doc referred to it being a part of the US military a bit above here
Yep, I see it. A US based private military org.
Yeah, something like that would probably be a more apt description for a modern day Helix
Helix like blackwater is what is called a PMC or Private Military Corporation. I mean basically a polite way to say you hired mercs to do security
and, sometimes, "security"
ah, okay
I wasn't that familiar with it, i just knew it was part of Blackwatch's inspiration
But Blackwatch isn't a PMC?
Blackwatch is a division of Overwatch. It's more like Delta Force or DEVGRU.
And similar to CIA SAC in its level of autonomy and lack of oversight.
Helix Security is a PMC in the Overwatch universe.
no
She's presumably had patients who have died under her care though, right?
What, no
If that was something presumable we would have heard something about it
The only people who were killed because of Mercy were people killed by the biotic tech being weaponized by people who are not Mercy
Like Moira
On Screen Killers:
Doomfist, Genji, McCree, Reaper, Soldier, Sombra, Junkrat, Widowmaker, Roadhog, Ana, Moira, Baptiste
Off Screen but said to have killed:
Pharah, Hanzo, Symmetra
Overwatch Agents - May have killed on missions, liklihood varies:
Tracer, Torbjorn, Reinhardt, Winston
Junkertown Champion, probably killed other gladiators:
Hammond
Probably killed people, but hasn't explicitly been shown to:
Ashe
Heroes at war with Omnics, not humans:
D.Va, Zarya, Mei, Brigitte, Lucio, Mercy
Heroes not listed yet that have very little chance to be killers:
Bastion, Orisa, Sigma, Zenyatta
Sigma is literally described as a "Living weapon" though.
So is Bastion
Yeah but he's actively being used by Talon.
Gravity can also be used as a non-lethal weapon
He belongs at least in the "probably killed people" category.
I disagree. At this point, I dont think Sigma has killed
Especially if he is an "unknowing" accomplice
If he used gravity to eliminate people through KOs like Winston does in Recall, rather than killing
Sigma was also in space for a very long time wasn’t he
Yes
Can’t kill anyone in space
What
Thats irrelevant
He’s not around other people
He wasnt Sigma when he was in space
He was just a scientist
He became Sigma afterwards
More specifically, he became "Subject Sigma" and was put into a facility
Then became "Sigma" sometime after Talon broke him out
The only time he had potential to become a killer was as "Sigma"
And even then, I disagree
It's potential, but not likely based on what we know of him, and how we have seen non-lethal force so far
Lore
Mercy may have lost patients, but that's not the same as her killing someone
doctors can't save everyone
Sigma is tall because he’s dutch
and yes, losing a patient is absolutely not the same thing as killing someone
I think Sigma is safely in the "has not killed and is unlikely to" category
and they may be at war with omnics, but Mei and Mercy are unlikely to have killed either
Well he’s Dutch but you can also see how long he is
Gravity stretched his toes and fingers
his toes and fingers look normal
@limpid agate I’m not deep in the lore, so correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t reinhardt and maybe Brigitte kill people while they adventured around?
No one was shown to be slain
they have only been shown killing omnics
!!wiki omnic
For more information about the game, please refer to the wiki: https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/omnic
The TLDR is they are a brand of robot that started a war against humanity
I pretty much just know the stuff from reading the characters in game bios and armors
But that is skipping a lot of things
The wiki is a fan edited wiki but has basic information
All the major lore pieces are in the pins
Is zenyatta omnic?
yes
Zenyatta, Bastion, and Orisa.
There’s so much more lore than I thought looking at pinned...
Where do I start
Is there anything put together chronologically where I can start at the beginning and just move through it?
I have a list of all the lore in order of chronological release, if that's what you're looking for
I don't think anyone has put it all in timeline order though
The important things are
Shorts, comics, and short stories
The first pin can help you with starting
any leads on what the evil omnics motivation is for being in talon?
whats talons end goal btw
Null Sector are an Omnic group that want to free the omnics - we saw it in Uprising - no humans, just omnics (kinda extremists)
Talon is ( or was?) a mercenary group - employed by countries to help them when their army was busy else were . Along the way, it became kind of a mafia
When Doomfist was imprissoned - it seems they just wanted to get more money and influence - but with Doomfist back, he wants a war to improve humanity - the strong will survive the war and the weak will be dead...
(i think that's the basic idea^^)
So couple things there Gwadael
Null Sector is an extremist group for omnic rights, spawned from the mistreatment of omnics from the UK and other parts of Europe.
Talon is what I would call a terrorist group. It's not that they're employed by countries but rather their members are seemingly high standing members in certain countries or organizations. It's unknown what their origins are or what they started off as and they seemingly have a board of members who operate and make the decisions with seemingly Doomfist being the main head. When Doomfist was imprisoned, the other members of Talon decided to make it a sort of war profiteering organization where the members would line up their own pockets with the conflicts they'd create.
Doomfist returning and taking charge once more is his own goal of seeing survival of the fittest in which he wants humanity to grow stronger from conflict.
Talon did present themselves as a mercenary company to find new recruits
that's why Baptiste joined
they aren't publicly evil, or at least they weren't when he joined
After his service was complete, Baptiste struggled to find a demand for his unique skills. He turned to one of the few opportunities open to him: joining the Talon mercenary group, one of the many organizations that were poised to profit off the chaos in the war's aftermath.
We still don’t know if they are publicly known for being evil/ terrorists right?
That’s what we the players know, but does the world know?
I don't think the public knows much about Talon
I'd say it's pretty well known by this point considering Baptiste left them. Baptiste joined when they were still very obscure but over the past couple of years we see Talon being more so the bad guys.
McCree's train hopper comic where a train was invaded by a bunch of Talon goons would be my main go to example. And of course the places they invaded as seen from the Baptiste hero origins
it may be outdated, but the "Overwatch is Back" article lists Reaper and Widowmaker as "terrifying mercenaries", with no mention of Talon
The surveillance footage from Monday's attempted museum heist instantly caught the world's attention. Two former Overwatch agents risked life and limb against two frighteningly capable mercenaries, and the theft was thwarted. But while much has been made over the images of sheer mayhem—that, miraculously, did not result in any deaths—there was another moment that caught my attention.
Talon's leadership may be obscure but I think it'd be recognizable to say that Talon is the bad guys or the grunts anyway. Similar to the storm troopers in Star wars; You'd know they are the bad guys even if you didn't know palpatine was.
Probably yes
Soldier's origin trailer just calls them "our enemies"
that was made back in 2015 - they probably hadn't named Talon yet
It does make me wonder tho; Given that some countries have no problem with Overwatch, I'd hope or expect that countries such as South Korea and maybe the US would be totally okay with privately hiding them given that Overwatch is still outlawed and such.
there's certainly people who are happy Overwatch is back
some might even be in a position to prevent them from being persecuted
I'd hope or expect that countries such as South Korea and maybe the US would be totally okay with privately hiding
OW/MEKA collab pls
Wouldn't be suprising
Anyway, I think Doomfist is lying to Omnics, particularly to Storm Rising mysterious Omnic.
Null Sector probably want to shift powers. So that Omnics would stand above humans.
Doomfist wants to improve humanity, and war is one of the greatest catalyst of innovation. It happened during and after the first Omnic Crisis. So DF wants to start a war but with Omnics loss in mind. He doesn't want Omnics to win. That would mean the end of humanity. In order to improve mankind, Omnics have to lose. This is a DF's plan.
The question is - does Null Sector's leadership know about his plan? Or will Akande betray them?
I think, given his openness on his positions, they both know that the alliance is temporary.
the thing is, does doomfist's plan involve omnics too? we know they can feel and think like humans
But they aren't doing any joint missions as far as we know, so there isn't much value to be gained by backstabbing, yet.
I don't think so. IIRC, Doomfist seems mostly neutral to Omnics in general. He's interested in making a better humanity through trial by fire, and he doesn't care about whether the peaceful Omnics come along for the ride or die with Null Sector.
Anybody else waiting for overwatch 2
No
Ok then 😦
TRACER IS OP
Ok bye
Serious discussion strictly related to lore. @dusty cairn @worthy rose
my apologies
Pretty sure her lore is that shes op
the only hero who is "op" in the lore is Symmetra
"hard light"
we don't know the full extent of her powers
Winston and Reaper are also overpowered
also technically the most overpowered hero in real life logic in overwatch is tracer
time
Tracer's abilities are less "time travel" and more "selective time manipulation"
since in the animated shorts and comics
they have no cooldowns
so basically zenyatta using transcendence
means infinite immortality
Transcendence probably isnt canon
abilities do have some limitations in canon - Tracer's chronal accelerator requires power, so if she runs out she can't blink/recall
IIRC none of zenyattas abilities are canon
wow
so canon zen basically just levitates
and that's about it
but i think that's not true
you can actually see how good zenyatta taught genji
I picture him as more of a robot bodhisattva personally
when genji deflects too many projectiles you start seeing multiple golden hands just like zen
so that does exist
Is that true? I've never looked that close
i did
I think that's just a particle effect for the game, it just looks like a sped up genji arm
I'd say doomfist is pretty overpowered in lore
Inner peace is a hell of a drug
my guess is that his "healing" is psychological, and that's why Mercy doesn't understand it
Like placebo affect? Or just mental healing?
he might have an omnic alternative to biotic healing
If it just had psychological effects, I doubt mercy would be so baffled
it might be some psychosomatic thing I guess
I just meant like how some doctors don't see psychologists as real doctors
well yeah but if mercy thought that she wouldn't call it healing
she asks him how his healing works
if it was purely psychological she'd go "oh yes he does psychology things"
his healing probably involves omnic energy, and that's what she wants to understand
yea which is my point
what was zen's response to that again?
Mercy: Zenyatta, I must admit, I do not understand how your healing works.
Zenyatta: And I do not understand much of how you heal, Dr. Ziegler. I suppose we must all take some things on faith.
i mean for all we know the point of the interaction itself could be a dig at "wait that hero doesn't do physical healing, so then how do they work" just as an in-game thing, but the tone felt lore-ish (if that makes sense) which is where the confusion comes from
My headcanon is zen healing is omnic biotic healing
could be a jab at the fact that none of what we see Zen do in the game is canon
all the healing he did for genji was psychological, so that might be the excuse for his in-game healing (like brig's inspiration)
granted genji didn't need physical healing at the time, the question is do the orbs actually help, even for psychological stuff
Genji's physical healing didn't do much for his psychological damage
yeah exactly thats my point
zen only healed genji psychologically
what could his orbs be doing in his meditating emote?
just looking cool?
(which is totally valid)
maybe Mercy doesn't understand Zen's healing because it's spiritual - meditation, etc.
yeah
that line could work with lucio and brig if it's purely referencing the game and not canon, perhaps its just by chance that they chose zen
maybe
i assume she'd never ask him that in-universe though, because that's like asking a therapist how their healing works
assuming he doesn't physically heal like he does in-game
I wouldn't be surprised if he can physically heal
It's not like we really know anything about zenyatta actual abilities lore wise
it comes down to what his orbs can do in universe
and we know there's no spiritual magic, so it can't be that
Doesn't brig give people armor?
in the game
Also I thought lucios healing had something to do with the vishkar sound tech?
brig has the mechanical knowledge to build you armor and she knows basic first aid, her E isn't canon for all we know though
in canon she does first aid and fixes Reinhardt's armor
Lucio's weapons are crowd control guns
meant to shoot sound at people
similar tech exists today
I get they're real, but if I'm remembering correctly Lucious grandfather worked for vishkar and made that sonic technology which lucio then stole
i thought he just stole them from vishkar
He's got a line with sym and mercy about it
So how would lucio's sonic waves hurt machines?
I think it's just his father actually
And how does sound move people
Pretty sure if that's possible the sound required would be seriously immense
My guess is it's some kind of "solid sound" similar to vishkars hard light
But 'hard light' is something that is currently a very real possibility
They've even managed to make light act like a solid
Realism isn't really part of the equation in overwatch tbh
And light being a solid and what sym does are way different
Hmm true
They do have time manipulation after all
The equations used to figure that out must have been insanely complex
@marble wigeon it's his father - not grandfather
Lucio's father made the core tech of the sonic amplifier while working for Vishkar
legally, it was Vishkar's intellectual property
but Lucio didn't see it that way
I mean vishkar did kinda try to fascist his people
a company being corrupt doesn't mean it's okay to steal from them
There's a difference between being corrupt and actively impeding people rights
and if a company is actively oppressing your people and stealing from them can help them, it's close to a moral duty to do so
But that's more philosophy than lore
copyright and intellectual property law doesn't get ignored just because you dont like someone
Laws serving oppressors shouldn't be respected
Lucio could make a case for the rights to be legally his, as his father's inheritor, if it can be proved that his father didn't make it on company time/with company resources
bur Vishkar may have their employees sign contracts surrendering the rights to their creations
You're conflating legality with morality here
Legally it is wrong morally it may be right
"but your honor, they're evil - I had to steal from them" won't hold up in court
I mean yeah, they might have a legal case against him, but legality vs morality is as close to a central theme as overwatch gets
Arguing in defense of vishkar because they're technically the victim of a crime is somewhat missing the forest for the trees
Lucio doesn't care about morality either - his stance is "this is mine because my father made it"
from a legal standpoint, Vishkar hasn't done anything wrong
even morally, its debatable
they were providing better housing for the community
Have you read the sym comic?
we don't know their motives
I have
Sanjay blew up their competition and caused collateral damage
we don't know if Vishkar gave the order or even knew it was him
Are you talking about the dude, not the corporation?
Sanjay Korpal, yes
he works for Vishkar and is a Talon leader
we don't know his position in Vishkar
some kind of management, but probably not the top
Sanjay does not represent all of Vishkar
You literally just said vishkar did nothing wrong
Even acting like the destruction happened without any big wigs knowing, having a dedicated agent break into a competitors private property for the sake of corporate espionage is most assuredly a crime
Saying vishkar hasn't done anything wrong legally or morally is just plain false
I'm saying Vishkar didnt do that, Sanjay/Symmetra did
Also they weren't providing better housing, lucious lore pretty clearly states that their promises never became reality
Crimes corporations commit still have peoples names attached
It doesn't make them not the fault of the corporation
It seemed like they were providing housing at the cost of having an iron fist over the areas they own
In the whole 5 paragraphs lore lucio has they don't say anywhere they provided housing for the populace
All it says is that vishkar didn't fulfill it's promises and imposed their rules on them
so you're saying a corporation is responsible for the actions of its employees, whether they were ignorant of them or not?
When you say "they" who specifically are you talking about?
It's not like sanjay and sym are two randoms at the bottom of the ladder
Symmetra was given her title by vishkar specifically for the sake of clandenstine missions in vishkars interests
"they" is the company
You seem to be under the impression that Vishkar either ordered Sanjay to eliminate the competition or was at least aware that he did so and condoned it
there is no proof of that
Sanjay could have been acting on his own, without Vishkar's knowledge
Huh, you can't paste images here
Symmetras bio is very clear that she is sent on clandestine missions by vishkar, the company
I'm aware, and in my experience it means you're literally arguing for the wrong side
Advocating for the devil, as it were
exactly
I'm providing the counterargument for the sake of discussion
I know Vishkar is up to all sorts of shady stuff and is totally guilty of plenty of crimes
but to the public, they just know of Vishkar being a benevolent development company that helps out poor areas of the world
Judging by the fact that lucio is considered a hero after his uprising and vishkar went under investigation after they were kicked out of rio they're public image probably isn't so great
Depends what country it is
The world of overwatch seems to be full of internation connections, I'd imagine most people in touch with the news will have heard of vishkar, especially after the lumerico leak
Also I was just reading the old comics again and did reinhardt totally brick his only van for his entrance in the OW2 cinematic?
Of course.
I'm also curious about how socially acceptable "altered" people are in the OW universe
There's a ton of people with cybernetic limbs and such, and tracer blinks in public without any hesitation
Hmmm... Might depend on where you are
And like, does winston go grocery shopping?
Probably not. Even today, you can order groceries online.
I wonder if anyone was suspicious about the food being delivered to the otherwise abandoned watchpoint gibraltar
Winston was a public figure so maybe it's just known he lived there
You can see by the girls reaction to tracer walking in a crowd that members of overwatch are at least known to still exist
How often is Orisa out on the streets in public?
She's in the background of the Zarya comic with Efi
Fairly often
She lives there.
There isn't really anything weird about Orisa.
At least not in Numbani
She's seen as a protector
Numbani is the one place in the world where an omnic like her wouldn't stand out
I think people know/knew Winston was living in Watchpoint Gibraltar
He might've been assigned to look after it or something
The real question would be why he hasn't been arrested there
No one has made laws for monkeys 🐒
What about Hammond? I'm sure he doesn't pay taxes because he doesn't wear pants
If you don't wear pants you don't pay taxes. That's my logic
that's terrible logic
Does junkertown pay tax to the Australian government? Or are they a separate entity?
@peak escarp If he doesn't wear pants he doesn't have pockets so he doesn't have a wallet to pay taxes!

Dude...
this is a serious discussion channel
It's just a fucking joke
I don't care
You are trash
@slate siren Final warning.
It’s likely that Junkertown is a rogue faction away from the government
They forcefully took land that the government had planned as an Omnic sanctuary
Also they don’t have any infrastructure or outside reconstruction, so the government is probably just content letting them run their own area
Bet their water is still tainted
i heard that there's a lore explanation as to why characters respawn and why there are multiple instances of a character in a match. is this true? i don't remember where i heard it
No official explanation. Only fan made like "it's simulation inside OW training program".
Don't take gameplay as a canon
Overwatch gameplay mechanics are meant for the purpose of the game not for the purpose of the lore. Just like when you die in every other war game and you respawn
the developers' explanation of the gameplay is "like someone playing with action figures"
hello
greetings
greetings
this isn't the place for socializing
Anyone ever think of Numbani map as defenders?
You and your squad just chilling in a nightclub (during the day) and head out to stop bad guys who just invaded a train terminal
remember, no russian.
it's an airport, not a train terminal
Paris is virtually the same but reversed
Just chilling in clubs makes for good pregaming
the Paris club is heavily implied to be a resistance meeting place
Cool
you don't spend a lot of time in the nightclub on Numbani
what does this have to do with lore

i kind of forgot but what happened to winston (the scientist) , did he die?
he wasn't with the rest of the scientists when the other apes went rogue?
was he?
oh
that's sad , also he kind of resembles Peter parker from spider verse
They didn't give us an official date for the book Hero of Numbani right? On amazon, the kindle is available on may 5th, but the paper book on june 2nd...
May 5th is the only date I've seen
the hardcopy and digital releases may have different dates
maybe... well, I guess i'll buy both copies then, i don't want to miss a single day reading it!
I'm getting hardcopy for sure
I thought the book came out on May 10th. Speaking of the book and relating to lore, I wonder if we'll meet Efi's parents and more omnic characters
I'm more curious about how Lucio will play into the story
I’m expecting a symm redemption arc relating to lucio in some manner
