That’s probably fair
Junkrat and one of the omnics need an interaction
He does have that well earned murderous vibe thing going on
(I know he has kill quotes to them)
say bacon
I want a funky gay monkey
Not relevant.
Gay tracer was
I want a funky gay monkey
Has no relevance to this channel
Because there is no gay funky monkey
Tracer being gay is irrelevant to your pictured gay funky monkey.
lmao
That sure is a sentence
Yea but it’s funny
this is a serious discussion channel
h're is a comical video f'r thee to beest in a valorous humor
I was being serious btw or do you want an girl gorilla hero
we have enough gorilla heroes
Good gay gorilla it is thank you finally
!!shitposting @next pike
@next pike Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
You fools I’m 4 parallel universes ahead of you
Moving swiftly onwards.
Next person to shitpost will also be disposed of.
With no additional warning.
Lol
Anyways
I'm wondering how hog met junkrat
Were they like, in a heist together and they were like let's go
Or what
Thx
I'd like to know when they met
how long ago was Wasted Land? they have their current looks so it can't be that long ago
like most other sources, we don't have a spot on the timeline for that either
what about the Australian omnium and the tresure junkrat found
Junk does have an interaction with omnics
With orisa he says 'bots. A dime a dozen.' Orisa replies 'actually efi spent most of her foundation grant on me' or something similar
it's probably not a treasure with any value to Null Sector
it likely has more value to the humans
iirc it's believed to be gold
He came to notoriety when he discovered an extremely valuable secret in the bones of the omnium. Though few knew the nature of what he found, he was nonetheless pursued by bounty hunters, gangs, and opportunists wherever he went, until he made a deal with the Junker enforcer Roadhog, who grudgingly agreed to be his personal bodyguard in exchange for a fifty-fifty share of the spoils.
it doesn't even say "treasure"
it's "an extremely valuable secret"
probably not even something tangible at all
Its not believed to be gold. People like Hanzo think its something he physically possesses
If it was just gold, no one would give a shit
Especially not if he also stole the crown jewels of England
some people have guessed that it is information relating to how the omniums turned themselves back on and started the omnic crisis
or how omnics gained sapience
Chopper is with Junkrat because Junkrat said he can have part of the treasure
So I think it is something tangible
It's a comic, it felt like a large amount of money so I don't know
But if it was an information why everyone keep asking for a treasure ?
because they know it's valuable, so they assume it's treasure
most people don't value information
It sounds logic to me
Chopper's name in English is Roadhog.
what language calls him Chopper? French?
French yes sorry I forgot his name in english I still don't get why his name got translated
Anyways did someone read the comics about the characters ? We can learn Sombra's secret identity
We've read them. We know her name is Olivia Colomar.
Cool ! I tought no one did so many people ignore them
The people in this channel have, but you are right, many ignore them.
They give a lots of clues about the lore
My theory is that it's a secret which could allow someone to disable the Omnics
But Junkrat or the Junkers don't have the resources to do it themselves
Junkrat hates Omnics if the secret was able to stop Omnics he would have said/sold it earlier
He's not limited to Junkers, he travels the world
If it was something like that, Junkrat would have happily sold it earlier
Like Azanio said
I was wondering of what is the gold we see on the map Petra, behind the broken wall
I thought it was part of Junkrat's treasure but it seems like Junrat has an information not a treasure
Petra is also unrelated to him
Its in the Middle East
The treasure is more tied to Hamid Faisal
Is there a reason they just sort of left the omniums standing after the Omnica corporation was shut down?
I mean they have to have been at least mostly intact to "turn themselves on" years later.
we don't know
they might have been too costly to dismantle
or maybe they were planning to, but they woke back up before they could
Actually nvm that was a dumb question
It’s pretty common IRL for factories to be left dormant.
But just imagine a car factory started itself up and just started churning out Toyota models from ten years ago.
Yeah, also I imagine the machines inside were fairly valuable
They might've left them on until they determined whether or not building more Omnics would be profitable or sometime
Well wasn’t the Omnica Corp. shut down?
So it’s more likely its assets were put up for sale.
But I imagine someone must've bought the factories
I kinda feel like no one would want them.
With the controversy around Omnics and all
I don't think there was as much controversy back then
Though it did exist
Also, I wonder why Omnica being shut down for fraud is even in the story to begin with
Better question is how do you make money off of self-aware robots.
They probably weren't supposed to be self aware
Why would anyone ever design a robot which would disobey non-malicious orders?
I guess you wouldn’t. Not deliberately.
Omnica committing fraud seems like such a strange detail to include, the only thing it explains is why the Omniums coming online caught us off guard
My guess is that First Strike would have elaborated on it
Which was cancelled because they could "tell it in other ways"
My assumption is that the Omnica Corporation shutting down has tie ins with the Sombra Illuminati Conspiracy. A mysterious reawakening of factories that launched the world into a world war class event? The only real entity you could conceivably blame is Sombra's illuminati conspiracy.
But just imagine a car factory started itself up and just started churning out Toyota models from ten years ago.
I don't think that's the case because remember, the omnics were also given freedom. So i guess some of them turned on the factories after the fraud and the shutdown
So that is also something that is up for discussion
It's never clear if the omnics when created had free will from the start or if they obtained it later on
The reason why they said it was fraud was because it was meant to convey that the factories didn't work
This whole thing is a conspiracy at this point
Them re-awaking was not just surprising because they waged sudden war against humanity
They were also suddenly matching the non-fraudulent output levels
Like, let's say I sell you a box that magically makes 10 sandwiches an hour, and adapts to your flavour
But in reality, it only makes 6 sandwiches an hour, and only from 1 of 6 flavours
So you get rid of the box, stuff it in the corner of the kitchen
Suddenly
A few years later
It starts making sandwiches on its own
Would you say the smartest OW character is Winston or Mercy?
And not only are they in flavours that didn't exist when you first got the box
Its also making them at 10 an hour, if not 12
Its also making them poisoned too, inexplicably
Depends on what your parameters for intelligence is. They're both intelligent but in different areas.
So the fraud was fabricating numbers?
Yes
And factories can boot up themselves again?
That doesn’t seem big enough to shut down an entire international corporation over.
So in that example, the surprise is:
- The omniums are exceeding its predicted value
- The omniums had originally failed to meet its predicted value
- The omniums also want to destroy all humans for some reason
It'll probably make sense if we assume they're automated
That doesn’t seem big enough to shut down an entire international corporation over.
It is
A very big reason
"want to destroy all humans"
So the company also violated the laws of robotics?
There are a lot of problems with that question
I'm going to answer no.
And there are like, 4 or 5 reasons why
1 - Omnica didn't set it to destroy all humans. They didn't get shut down because of that. They got shut down because they said their factories would perform better than they did. They defrauded their clients who they sold the omniums to.
2 - The reason they want to destroy all humans is a mystery in universe, not just to us.
3 - The laws of robotics are not a thing in Overwatch
4 - The laws of robotics aren't even real laws of robotics. The whole point of the laws of robotics was why the laws of robotics are useless. But everyone who makes robot stories using them seems to forget that.
Like, Asimov wrote his 3 laws. And then every single one of his stories is about how they don't work.
But they are not legal laws
Which is the 5th thing
Its like saying you will get arrested for breaking the laws of thermodynamics.
Okay that was a silly question
But still why were they made to the point where they could wage war and attack humans
And think of conquering the whole world
That's the mystery
That no one knows
In universe, no one knows the answer. Its a mystery there too
They can't explain why it happened
It just did
To contrast, you can explain Null Sector's invasion
They are a group of Omnic Supremacists that want to suppress humanity for Omnic superiority.
Maybe because it was due to the excessive hunger the humans had for technological advancements, as suggested by one of the heroes' official bio?
Wait no
No one understands how the omniums woke up, how they started mass producing war machines, what their motivations were, or why anything had happened
They are a group of Omnic Supremacists that want to suppress humanity for Omnic superiority.
That was exactly what I thought. I heavily doubted they'd just want "rights for omnics"
They never once said that's what they wanted. In fact, the places they are raiding are ones where omnics are getting their rights.
It's like feminism
No it isnt
I thought so
If you wanted your feminism example, it would be... In 1920 America, women's suffrage came to be. But on the day of the vote, an army of women marched into Washington, and said they were going to make it a country of women only, and would execute any men, pro-men women, or pro-equality women
I thought it was like, while feminists advocate for Equal rights, maybe in truth they want female dominance
Don't try to bring in politics to this
Sorry
Its an army of robots that want robot supremacy. Their attacks were all at places where peace was shaky but existed
King's Row was just building their big omnic neighbourhood
Mhmm
And when Mondatta was there to break the ground
They attacked and captured them all, omnic or human
But though in the UK they're classed as second class citizens I think
Ah icic
I thought the Omniums Crisis was caused by the 'godlike Ai' I heard about. They are a few, we don't have much information but i've assumed that they saw in humans a danger so they started manipulated all Omnics to kill the danger. That's why Pharah and her team had to get rid of one of them
The omnic Crisis happened because of the omniums mysteriously working once again and created killer omnics
The godlike AI is an isolated incident that for now has nothing to do with the omnic crisis
I say for now cause anything is subject to change but as of rn, the two aren't related
Also during that comic, only Russia iirc was in the second omnic crisis, the rest of the world was doing it's own thing.
very interesting
Korea also
Korea is just dealing with the Gwishin, like they have for the last 20 years
that's not part of the second omnic crisis
Is there any reason it’s considered separate?
They’re still battling forces from an Omnium
because the Gwishin have been doing it for 20 years and aren't allied with the other omnics
the second omnic crisis is a relatively new development
Do we know yet if the Omniums even were working together in the first crisis?
we don't know anything about the omniums post-crisis
the only hint towards the start of the second omnic crisis comes from Zarya's bio:
But on the eve of the tournament, an attack came from the long-dormant Siberian omnium, and her village was thrust into war once again. Aleksandra immediately withdrew from the competition and rushed home to enlist in the local defense forces, sacrificing the life of fame and fortune she might have had.
the Siberian omnium attacked when Zarya was already an adult
and if it had started before OW was shut down, I think OW would have dealt with it
so I think it started within the last 5 years
what the hell are you banging on about
In a dream, I think I saw a map of where all the Omniums were
There was one labelled "the Pyrenees" and I think one in the Netherlands
the one in Detroit was there
And there was also one in Korea, which IDK if that's the same as the modern-day one in the East China Sea
From the "Overwatch is Back" article, Jewvia's probably right that the reason Omnica being shut down is important to the story is that it was a surprise that the Omniums were able to meet their full potential
I don't think dreams count as lore homie
I wonder if OW2 will unveil how/why that happened
since it does have a strong omnic presence
What do you mean?
OW2 might tell us how/why the omniums woke back up and started churning out bots beyond their previous levels
because one of the main enemy factions is Null Sector and they might know what happened
probably repurposed old ones
That dropship/factory sure looks pretty new.
But it would make sense that Null Sector would repurpose old omniums.
they could have taken the tech from an old omnium and put it in a ship to make it portable
I hope they bring together Mercy's more serious character from her short story and the mercy we see in game.
He was part of the original Overwatch team, and designed a ton of the weapons in the universe.
But we haven't seen too much of him after the fall, only his friendship with Bastion.
And his daughter brig
we haven't seen much of their relationship
We also see him in Destroyer
just that it exists
Yeah we've never seen Brig and Torb interact in any meaningful way in canon
It was only confirmed that they were related in Honor and Glory although it was hinted at in Reflections and Uprising
True true... but like said earlier, he hasnt done anything good enough to be even brought up in lore
There was Torb's previous comic
yeah but the basics
What like the Ironclad experience?
Besides White Dome there’s not much we haven’t seen
Binary was pretty significant
It was more character building than lore imo
It said he built the Bastions and showed some gadgets but I don’t recall much else
you should reread it then
because that's where he discovers Bastion is non hostile and brings him in
Ik but that’s not backstory
That’s a current event
Well less current now but at the time
It was more character building than lore imo
that’s not backstory
That’s a current event
It showed more how he was grappling with his responsibility and how he felt about Bastion specifically
it's also a significant event to the overwatch lore
It more fleshed out his personality, not his history is what I’m saying
Fair enough
It was one of the few comics that was significant to the main story
most of the history serves to flesh out personality anyway
current events are typically more relevant
as is this one
I just put less emphasis on new events than I do when we learn what a characters life was like but to each their own
Like saying Reaper is hunting OW agents is less interesting to me than saying he used to be one
The only past tense stories I want to see are significant ones, or ones that ahve been alluded to for a while
Like Anubis
Or the first crisis
It builds the character in personality and makes much more complicated connections to everything else in the universe
Anubis seems pretty self contained honestly
Unless it has something to do with the crisis then it is basically it’s own mini crisis
Also I think next archives is probably going to be operation White Hill
... What?
1 - Do you mean white dome?
2 - We don't have the heroes for that.
3 - We won't get a new mission next archives
- No
- We know at least Soldier, Ana, and Rein
- I meant the next one we actually get something
Soldier wasn't on the mission
It was Ana, Rein, Torb, and Emre Sarioglu
And it was before Mercy invented the biotic tech
So Ana had none of her current kit
The kit doesn’t matter in game
And if you didn't mean White Dome
What are you talking about
I just realized now you said no to that
It’s a mission that went south with at least those three members, they mention it in the middle of Bastet I think
It would follow the archive formula of having a team fight out of a tough spot but it wouldn’t follow the pattern of chronological events in the archives

They just said Prague
Guess you’re right now I feel bad
Now I’m gonna be digging all day and realize it never existed anywhere
lol
and there wont be a new Archives mission next year
Though it's not like lore which takes place in the present isn't useful for backstory
All 3 short stories have given us some backstory
yes, but it wasn't the focus
That's what I mean
They give us small bits of backstory despite being set in the present
I'd like to see Sigma's backstory
I feel like it's similar to Widowmaker's
I'm not convinced that his fragmented mind made him evil
I’m currently studying backstory of reaper
Oh! do you think he's evil, working undercover, or brainwashed?
I just thinking it’s a horrible childhood
That can turn anyone bad
If they give in
I'm thinking horrible childhood too.
And after the “death” of soldier it was to much and he gave in
I would've agreed with that two years ago
But after watching retribution, I'm more convinced he's working undercover
OK!
I feel like that shot was him giving in
When he shot the guy at the end
Excuse me,is lucio's sonic amplifier based of the sonic weapons in real life which are also energy weapons?
Ah ok,sorry,thanks
@empty knoll how did you get the video
@worthy rose his dad worked a vishkar. That’s all we know
All I know at least
Ah ok,thanks for the information Apparently, symetra photon weapon is a laser while zarya's particle cannon is not a laser
I don't know if people are already aware that particle beam and laser are not the same despite having the same function
Oh, I did not know that
Thanks
Symetra also works at vishkar
I forgot to mention that
No problem,😁
Someone told me that in quora, but it's understandable why particle beam is confused to laser
Ooh ok,thanks for the informations
Is tojborn's rivet gun a nailgun actually?
Ooooh,really??Do they look like nails?
Yea kinda
They’ve got lava on them so I’m not to sure
Reaper seems to have a struggling love life, as based in the comics. That could also been a part of him going evil
Ooooh ok,thanks for the informations
It’s not fact just theory
Aah ok
Roadhog's scrap gun is actually flak cannon(i saw something like that in unreal tournament 4)
It acts both as an explosive weapon and as an unusual shotgun
Yeah, Gabe did struggle to enjoy life but he doesn’t seem willing to kill his closest friends.
He didn’t kill Ana, Jack, and Winston
Just like how Widow visits Gerard’s grave and keeps the wedding photo of them in her castle
Yeah, he left Ana in shock
I think it was mutual
Ana is still mentally in shock
Doomfist entertained the idea that Reaper was being sentimental
When Reaper kills people, its quick and blunt
But with overwatch he’s awfully talkative
Yes, but those people dot matter to him he will easily kill them. With other people though he has a harder time. But I bet he would still kill them in time
True that
Hmmmm,it's funny that junkrat can not auto kill in close combat situation while pharah can
But Gabe was really determined to bring down Talon, not unsimilar to Soldier: 76
Him giving up on the right thing is one thing
But he could still hate Talon more
But with is wasteland of a life, mixed with talon encouraging him and overwatch shut down, where else can he go?
He could
have just done a one man crusade like soldier is doing
But there's a reason he joined Talon and I have yet to find a truly satisfactory answer as to why
Some ppl say he just really hated OW and that should be the end of it but I'm not a fan of that answer
Neither am I
Same here
He’s not a one man crusade kind of guy even though he acts like
It
And shoulder is only doing it because everyone thinks he’s dead
Maybe reaper joined talon in hopes to one day confront soldier and he knows he can’t kill him alone
Solider is on a technically two man crusade since Ana is with him; He really is basically the punisher but focused on taking down everyone who helped take Overwatch Down
Really?
That's his literal motivation
Two man crusade? Since when?
Since Ana joined him
In the Ana short story Bastet
And further continued in the recent Mercy short story
Reaper's vendetta against Soldier doesn't make sense to me since I believe chu said that Reaper was relieved to not take the leadership role
Started in Retribution
his revenge is over something else
Old Soldiers is present day
Ana working with Soldier started in Old Soldiers
Yea but I'd like to know what that reason is.
And I really would be disappointed if it came down to "Moira's genetic meddling caused him to turn this way"
it probably wasn't that
I thought you meant Reyes' downward spiral
sorry, I was jumping between thoughts
Ana joined in Old Soldiers, but in Bastet's defense
It starts off in the part of Old Soldiers
Where they team up
So technically, that scene is present in both
I think the only part Moira played in Reyes's fall was making him impulsive during Retribution (an unforeseen/unintended side effect of her treatment)
he was (and still is) an otherwise very methodical person who plans out all the details
Okay but he does know or suspect that Overwatch/blackwatch members have become Talon
he recognized Talon members in Trainhopper
recognized that they were using the Blackwatch playbook
Hence my question; Any lore or expected character drop in sight?
one of the Talon members also recognized McCree
the devs did say we'd see what McCree was up to after Reunion, but they didnt say how
Did we ever get a release date on the Orisa book?
I do hope it's not only Orisa focused
I'd like to learn more about the first doomfist
and maybe the origin of Talon
Disappointing; idk Orisa was the one character that I didn't really care much for
Oooh lucio we need more origin on him
We know his origins already
that's why she's getting a novel first
he's also not from numbani
she's safe
Safe as in to do with as they please
But he’s has interesting origin
or safe as in good start to ease in
they can write her without touching the main story - if it bombs, no big loss
More would be nice
if its successful, they will make more
and it's being handled by someone who is known for writing afrofuturism
Did they ever promise more comics or are those dead for short stories?
Those take long to make though. Especially a lot
I'm hoping they move to longer comics
Yeah
not 12 page short comics
I don't mind short stories; I'd just prefer the visual medium
Okay so we only know the Orisa story is coming in may 2020
an eventual hero drop sometime in 2020 before suspected OW 2
I don't think they'd put the game through another drought for the entirety of 2020
and maybe 2021 for OW 2
A lot of lore will probably be revealed in OW2
it might be similar to March-May 2016
drop a bunch of shorts/comics all at once to introduce OW2
It will be revealed more in OW 2 but waiting 1-2 years without much more to bite at is a big yikes especially since they confirmed they will only be releasing one hero before OW 2
Hopefully more
I thought they confirmed they were saving like 4+ heroes for when OW 2 drops
with only 1 to drop before OW 2 drops
they are
just to hopefully clarify again
We should be getting OW 2 likely in 2020 after blizzcon or so right?
Yeah that game is going to have a lot in it so probably late 2020 - early 2021
It would be neat if OW 2 came out on the anniversary event
It would but unlikely
Maybe shorter than early 2021 I mean
They are dropping I believe at minimum 3+ maps, 4+ heroes, 1 new game mode, and still experimenting with a lot of changes and such
And then the different missions
I thought anniversary 2021 would be a good time for a release, but someone pointed out that the OWL would have started by then
all in the span of the past 2 years or so?
and it would be weird to release the game in the middle of the season
I'd hope OWL season 3 would feature OW 2
True
yeah
I'm wondering how they plan on changing things up for the upcoming season
I mean season 4 not 3
3 is just first to 3 but that's not as fun if you now have 5 new game modes
I’m ecxited to see what changes
I mentioned Sigma today
but I didn't mean to say that he's evil
I meant to say that the accident and the fallout didn't make him evil
like the trailer implied
ah
I have a theory that in the trailer, Talon was brainwashing him
he's not brainwashed, not like Widowmaker
he's being manipulated and lied to
he doesn't know what Talon is using him and his research for
That is definitely true and I don't disagree with that
Sigma is just kept in a lab somewhere doing his research
Talon manipulates him
But I think that the destructive thoughts that intruded his mind like "I will bring you a new understanding" and "violence"
was not his own
I think it was Talon importing that into his mind
He was confused and trying to hold to his insanity when he was in the mental facility
importing?
I think they meant to say important
Sigma's mind is... questionable since he hasn't actually made a canon appearance since his own trailer.
haha, I just realized my mistake I meant to say forcing it into his thoughts
but how would they even do that?
but you're right, he hasn't made an canon appearance so there's no way to know what's going on with him
especially before Talon even made contact with him?
Talon has extensive connections to a lot of places
I'm more interested in learning about Talon's origins
And with amoral scientists like Moira
And expensive equipment
On top of using it on Sigma
Moira is very questionable to me since she seems to have plenty of funding already
I don't imagine it being difficult for them
Isn't moiras funding from talon and vishkar?
Not from Vishkar
Oasis
But Oasis University and Talon
I remember reading somewhere she was associated with vishkar
Moira is a head of Oasis, the world's first technocracy which is like a crap ton of money
she's on the Talon council with Sanjay, who works for Vishkar
I actually would really like to know how much she actually cares for Talon and their endeavors
Like she's in it's inner circle but so is Sanjay and I personally think he's in it cause "If the world is fucked, that means someone will need to rebuild it, meaning Vishkar gettin lots of money and influence"
According to the wiki she's on the council of leaders of talon, as opposed to being just funded by them
she probably doesn't care about Doomfist's vision - Talon is just another outlet for her experiments
I think she cares about manipulating science
Are you insinuating that; Being a leader of Talon
doesn't come with a crap ton of money
I'm sure it comes with money, I wonder how much sway she actually has over talon efforts as a whole
Honestly, it's doubtful that any of the current Talon leaders care about money
Max cares a lot about money
Reaper I assume has other plans
that's his job
Moira is all about science
Sanjay is all about control
How do you think Moira learned fluent Irish?
Moira is Irish
Unless Irish exploded in usage in the future.
Irish is an "endangered language" with 1-2% fluently speaking it.
50 years old I believe
I think Ireland has some schools teaching the language
so by future, if you mean like
Being Irish doesn't mean you can speak it fluently.
2020's?
Overwatch is set in the 2070's.
Irish schools teach Irish, but many people hate to use it or learn about it, because of post colonialism about the Irish language being part of backwardness or native-ness.
maybe she just uses phrases
My question to you is why does it matter? I don't know if she cares or not but they could have just made her pick it up cause honoring irish heritage or whatever
Because even if it's small to a lot of people, it's a huge leap in Irish cultural value. They literally could've made it so Moira only speaks English.
There are people who don't even know that Irish is a language.
I was one of them yea, but the fact they do is pretty positive; how indepth that fluency is, I don't think should matter
Fluency is a big thing at least to me because even if it's a fictional future, it's kind of nice to know that Irish is not some obscure language that someone might only learn in history books. I'll be honest, when I heard Moira speak Irish for the first time, I was impressed.
I'm super curious how they'll use zenyatta in OW2, seeing as he's been mostly absent lore wise for a long time now
And it wasn't just "Where is the bathroom" type phrases, but phrases with someone who actually knew how to pronounce things like the "Th".
Has zenyatta even canonically met any characters outside of Genji?
He seems to just be chilling in nepal
tho I don't see him playing much of a role
since he is a wandering monk
Yeah. That surprised me too that they got someone who knew again how to pronounce things. I don't know. A small trivial seeming thing, but I'm glad they did that for Moira.
He appeared in the trailer with Genji seemingly asking for his help, he probably is up to something
they've made an effort to match the actor to the hero's ethnicity
moreso now than with release heroes (Torbjorn, Lucio, Pharah and Zarya are notable exceptions)
Yea
It's ironic you say that because there were people who thought Moira's voice actress was not actually Irish. That she didn't sound "Irish" enough.
but at least with Hanzo you can actually make up a HC reason that is actually pretty solid
to why
Head of a crime syndicate? He probably put more emphasis into learning english instead of genji who partied and did his own thing at his leisure hence his english sounds less fluent than Hanzo's
I like that Moira's accent is subtle, not the over-the-top Irish accent that people are used to
makes her less of a stereotype
I think people confuse the "Irish" accent because in Irish there is no "TH" sound.
Overwatch is surprisingly good at going over steroetypes
because of those same reasons you mentioned for Moira (language at risk of disappearing), it would be nice to get one or two Haida or Coast Salish phrases for Pharah
whichever languages is appropriate for her father's tribe
I wouldn't mind that. Like I said, cultural additions to characters even in voice lines are good.
even just the enemy ult line would be nice
I actually have a friend who picked up learning Irish because they play Moira a lot.
cool
I just want the new hero already
not counting single word voice lines, Hanzo, Pharah, Reinhardt, Roadhog* and Torbjorn don't have voice lines in their native language
(Roadhog only counts if he is confirmed Maori)
New Moira revenge line should be: Póg mo Thóin.
Lucio used to be on that list, but they added some Portuguese
same with Symmetra and Hindi, although some have argued that she should be speaking Telugu
lmfao people don't even know Lucio is Brazilian half the time.
Doesn't Anjali speak Hindi which is why they chose it over Telugu?
nope
she had to learn it for Symmetra
she has mentioned how her older family members are disappointed that she isn't fluent
Zarya has a lot of Russian lines, but her VA is Bulgarian
Hanzo's VA is Japanese-American but doesn't speak Japanese
Sombra's VA is Columbian
lots of "close but not close enough for some people" casting
Being Bilingual should be a thing in America ngl. Learn at least one language in school.
yeah
I wish they taught ASL in high school tbh
in Canada we learn French until grade 8
and official signs and packaging are all bilingual
so everyone has very basic knowledge of French
I took Japanese through high school and university because I'm a weeb
Grade 9
I’m an American and dear lord. People treat learning a second language like a cancer.
my school only required it until grade 8
in grade 9 we could stick with French or choose another language - my school offered French, Spanish, Japanese and Mandarin
I learned two years of Spanish but it was basic enough to be at a 2-3rd grade level.
Do you think weebs would flock Japanese classes if they made it a thing all over?
probably
Definitely
now that they have a Swedish speaker in the cast, maybe they can get Keith Silverstein to learn some and give Torb a few lines
although they've had an Arabic speaker for 3 years and Pharah still doesn't have any . . .
Egypt has a specific dialect of arabic though right?
yes
I tried arabic my first year of college but couldn't quite wrap my head around it
which is Ana's VA's first language
Is it also Pharah's VA's language?
Even if Roadhog is Maori or part Maori, English may still be his native language
What language does Hanzo speak if it isn’t Japanese?
His enemy ultimate isn’t English I’m pretty sure
It's Japanese.
It's just his VA isn't a fluent speaker
Genji's is.
Yes
@frosty shell who is Korra?
Henzo at your service
That explains why hanzo only has the ultimate in japanese and has not a japanese voiceline
From the Legend of Korra, I don't watch it but someone insisted that what my username is was the case
she's a "copypaste of korra" in the sense that she's a no-nonsense strong (in both senses) woman of color
in other words if so she's also a copypaste of every character ever played by Michelle Rodriguez
I also think the original poster argued that Asami was a copypaste of Mercy
lol
And thus this meant Pharmercy was canon or something
I think I can sense an underlying agenda
I don't see how Asami was a copypaste of mercy (unless they only said bc pharmercy)
they did
Pharah ~= Korra makes sense on a very surface level
Asami has fuck all to do with Mercy
from legend of korra
oof lol
gotcha
anyway
There is a random piece of lore that is starting to strike my curiosity
and that is Widow's back story
Im hoping to get plenty more detail on that
i know what happens. She kidnaped, experimented on, and brainwashed to kill her husband.
But who did this? Who is responsible for Widow's fate?
Any theories?
The scientist is not known yet
but it's notable that her "brainwashing" or rather conditioning and her physical changes were separate things
Moira wouldn't be there for the first part
Moira was still in blackwatch
That is definitely true
She'd probably be responsible for Widow's physical conditioning
not the change though
also Widows current state.
so in Sombra's short. we see Widow out in the snow with her normal outfit hence her not feeling anything emotionally and physically (i think)
but in the relfection comic. We see her at her husbands grave. and wearing a large coat (which i think is just her going undercover)
but why would be go the his grave if hes doesnt feel any emotion?
you would think he'd have no remorse for killing her husband
I think she feels emotions
but she probably gave up after killing her husband
It's doubtful Talon would prevent her from visiting gerard;s grave
she probably lost the will to fight the brainwashing
i... kinda want something involving this to happen in OW2
btw im keeping my expectations extremely low for the story since blizzard is known for kinda ass writing
or just not the best i guess
it's not really brainwashing in the sense it's usually done
people imagine Winter Soldier where they can't deny obeying their commands
widow is more like conditioned to feel joy when she strikes
we don't know how much she remembers of gerard
My take is that she knows he died tragically but doesn't remember her fault
Yeah see like its littles things like this that i hope gets explored in OW2
but again, ill be ready if it doesnt y'know?
I also wouldnt mind seeing what Sombra's going to have up her sleeve in the future
she's well set up for big stories
like if she finally gets what she wants with the hackers that spotted her shes gonna YEET out of Talon and go off on her own
possibly with Baptiste
(not romantic or anything shippy)
I'll be surprised if Baptiste doesn't get overwatch'd
just predicting
i know i said keeping things low for the story
but you gotta remember...
its fucking Michael Chu
dont expect god tier direction
i hear lots of bad things about him
like hes "too fan servicey"
which i can kinda see seeing that
Especially with his grasp on Genji
if he was fan service-y he wouldn't have anything to do with genji lol
regardless that part's definitely overblown (and often a bit racist)
Well he hints and implies alot of weird things about him
like hes the one whose implying Genji and Mercy's relationship
which.. ok cool i guess
how is a relationship "weird" even if it was more direct
but he also went out of his way to confirmed that genji still has his "lower parts"
he was asked that in an interview
and made a vague affirmation
that's the opposite of going out of his way
you're repeating things that misinformed people are saying because they're misinformed
did i say anything about misinformation?
No, you're just repeating it
Im just telling you that many people dont like Micheal Chu's writing
and the whole Genji thing was just an example
im not really standing by anything of this
There's things to not like about his writing
quality of his long-form prose being the first and foremost
but Genji isn't one of them
and the "lower parts" comment especially
if you're not standing by anything of this, you should have no trouble accepting that it's wrong
which is what I'm telling you
good, we on the same page then
it's usually a good idea to not spread things that you know are wrong, but you do you I guess
i wanted to see ones opinion on it becasue i DIDNT know if it was wrong or not

It's wierd that people hate Michael Chu having any opinion of Genji
Like the dude is allowed to like Genji and ship him with Mercy
yeah like at least he doesnt to TOO out there with shipping
i personally dont do that
i think its cringe
His favorite hero to write for is Moira
that depends more on storyline closeness than him personally
a bulk of what he does is the in-game chatter and interactions
no hes does a lot of the lore
he wrote Valkyrie
and wrote a good majority of the characters backstories
hes the LEAD writer

Aren't there more writers?
Yes
Alyssa Wong who wrote What You Left Behind, for one
Most of the comics aren't written by Chu either
i was going to say yes
Akande Ogundimu
it's not shipping if the lead writer does it
it's called "writing"
^^^
True
Its shipping when its not canon but the lead writer supports it
In this case
Its dubiously canon
again^^^
I'm often surprised how many people don't recognize the familiarity of calling someone by a first name
like Genji calling Angela, Pharah calling Jesse
maybe because in Western culture that isn't a big deal?
I always feel uncomfortable when a stranger calls me by my first name
or just using their codenames
McCree only calls Pharah "Pharah", never Fareeha
but Ana does call her Fareeha
i mean that her mother so thats not surprising
I think pharah is less the case of first name/code name basis as it is an anglicization
I feel that people go of by real world culture too much in a fictional universe
but thats just me
or how about the people who call McCree "Jesse" - Pharah, and Reyes during Retribution
people he was close to
Torbjorn calls her Fareeha in a winter line
oh, Moira also calls him Jesse, but that's to mock him
is Moira her real name btw?
yes
yes
i figured
mccree is just too murica to bother with that "fareeha" nonsense
fr though I don't think it's a distance thing
they were pretty friendly
again idk if its ethical to go by real world culture in a fictional universe
saying "idk" doesnt mean no btw
it's a universe based on the real world
not some completely separated fantasyland
also not quite sure what you mean by ethical here
correct
True, as OW does take place roughly 60 years from now
it shouldn't be that different
compare it to 60 years ago from now - attitudes are different, technology has improved since then, but it's more or less the same
I'd say it's pretty wildly different in culture
A more or less new species sprung into existence, there's more changes than just flying cars
Is it established how omnics gained sentience? that's kind of glossed over which I kinda like as a story set up but it leaves me with some questions
why does every other bastion is red but our bastion is white and green?
bruh
During the long period of time
that doesn't make any sence
How?
Well you think of a better answer
In the flashback bastion had
I guess
Ah,
They were orange but they were built to be expendable and only lasted a battle or two
Ours has lasted years and plays in the dirt so he’s not so fresh comparatively
Also IIRC there were two models, one of which was probably Torby's original model and the other was the cheap knockoffs we see in the cinematic.
holy crap
Anyone else seen this? https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/ec2rkp/long_interesting_theory_about_ganymede/
This isn't holy crap worthy.
It makes far too much sense, although it isn't perfect. It's too weird that Bastion would suddenly wake up after being tapped a couple times, and decide to grow a conscience when the whole point of his model was to kill everything.
And Ganymede being that loyal is also weird. Maybe not this exact thing is true, but something about Bastion's origins seem off.
https://youtu.be/Zwq1FtM_WVE on this interwiew, jeff said that bastion will have an important role in ow 2
I'm so afraid Bastion might sacrifice himself for protecting Torb
Ah ha
An omnic dies protecting a human
But, that's nothing for omnics, they don't give a shit
Humans might shed tears
i didn't finish my typing lmao
i was gonna say the war might stop cause of bastion sacrificing himself for torb
but the war is not just against omnic and humans
so meh
no
The war wouldn't stop because bastion sacrificed himself for torb
Null Sector knows there are omnics who side with humans and have no qualms about killing them
First omnic crisis: Omniums vs Humanity; the omnics who were just like built like zen? We have no idea what they were like besides passive observers
Second omnic crisis: Null Sector vs the world
what if the melody sigma hears is actually the sound of the iris that zenyatta and the shambali monks worship
Null sector captured Mondatta in King's Row
It's implied they were going to execute him like the others
Well it's a hostage situation
What they would've done with him would depend on whether or not they got what they demanded
Mondatta wanted peace/equality with humans, of course Null Sector would hate that
I mean
if you think they wouldn't kill other omnics
I'd point at the french omnic reporter person in the OW 2 trailer. They were absolutely going to kill him and the rest of the french residents
Where does it say Null Sector was executing everyone
It was a hostage situation, so you only need to do that if you don't get your demands
Overwatch archive declassification complete. Welcome, agents: http://blizz.ly/OWU2017
For a limited time, we're rewinding the future and giving you the chance to relive history in our latest in-game event: Overwatch Uprising! Join Tracer on her very first mission in a new co...
At the news station 18-21 second mark
That doesn't mean they're killing the hostages
It just means they've killed other humans/Omnics in King's Row
Null Sector would definitely kill Omnics who fight against them though
^
did widowmaker know mercy, tracer, brig, and soilder 76 before she got captured to talon?
I mean her husband was the head so she had to have known and talked to them at least once?
maybe Soldier and Mercy, since they were higher-ups in Overwatch
but Tracer was a new recruit after Amelie already went missing
and Brigitte was a child
oh yeahhhh
Can someone canonically explain why mei has 250 hp?
it doesn't make sense when you think about it
there isn't a canon reason for it
Null Sector was going to blow up the power plant
with the hostages inside
Yes but I assume this would only be if the UK gov't refused to do anything
that's generally how negotiations go
and do they actually say that's what Null Sector will do during the mission?
Also, I wonder what the reaction to Overwatch ending the Uprising was, since I don't think that was covered
their goal was to make an omnic only nation meaning they at the very least were going to force out ppl from kings row or grant these extremists rights which if they've killed hundreds isn't gonna go well for the second option.
I assume during a hostage situation it was going to execute people one at a time until no hostages.
The reaction was the end of Overwatch. They had a handful of missions left which was Storm Rising but Retribution and then Uprising had overwatch overstep their bounds
Well, that was part of the reaction
While of course some people like Lucio who whole heartedly agree and loves Overwatch and wants them to just do good for goodness sake, the governments of the world shut it down after the Swiss HQ was blown up and Soldier was assumed dead
But I'd like to know how specifically the UK reacted
Citizens probably greatful, the government probably seething, and that's probably that
Cause they explicitly told Overwatch "We don't want you here"
likely
Or citizens angry that Overwatch didn't act soon enough to stop this
Or the gov't gives a backhanded response
We don't know fully
Which agents made up the mission may not be public knowledge
Of course we don't because their response doesn't matter; It doesn't matter how the people of the UK respond to OVerwatch after their mission is saved
I mean; Overwatch went inside to rescue hostages and their faces are on the actual posters for OW
I'm pretty sure they knew who saved them
"I assume during a hostage situation it was going to execute people one at a time until no hostages. " Maybe but I can't say for sure
(though this is an assumption)
Yea but now you're arguing semantics for no reason
It doesn't matter now cause they were going to kill them eventually; It doesn't matter how fast or how many they were going to execute. Killing 1000 people 1 at a time vs killing them all at once doesn't matter
What matters is that it warrants intervention from an outside party in this case, Overwatch since the UK government was unable to do anything
We don't know they were definitely going to kill them eventually, though it is a possibility seeing as Tracer says they could be dead in a few months
Also, I imagine that if the UK/London made concessions in terms of granting Omnics rights Null Sector would've released the hostages
Yea but that wouldn't have guaranteed the extremists freedom. Congrats you got omnics rights but you're still going to jail or be dismantled. And given that things were going to escalate and the fact that they killed hundreds already; it means either
They eventually kill everyone and get new hostages or the UK grants them what they want which are omnic rights and their own little cut of the UK to have as their own omnic only nation. Like I said; it doesn't matter cause the options are to not give the terrorists what they want meaning they kill more people until you do give them what they want, or you give them what they want and still suffer the losses now with an omnic hostile nation right beside you; So it doesn't matter in that outside intervention was necessary.
Well, all we know is that Null Sector wanted the UK/London government to go farther
They clearly want Omnic control but they might've settled for now (we don't know)
Though you're right as to why the UK wouldn't have wanted to give in
Also, IRL commando operations to rescue hostages have often gone wrong
And given the Venice incident it's understandable why the UK didn't want Overwatch
Yea but you're bringing up stuff that doesn't matter. It really doesn't matter cause at the end of the day, intervention would have been needed to be called in. It doesn't matter what null sector would have done then if you gave into them because it wouldn't have stopped the necessity of OW; I really don't understand why you're arguing pointless semantics and hypotheticals of an extremist group who would have straight up kept going and going until basically Omnic Crisis 2 brewed in the UK; There is really no reason to point out the semantics of things we don't know in this instance.
Hi. I'm new to the game. Was wondering, is all the lore in the shorts and comics, or are there other things I should look for also?
So the lore is in multiple areas
In comics
In the cinematics
in the archives events which you can watch and find in youtube
and the short stories released
And of course the character lores
It's probably best if you ask the questions and then read the wiki but if you want the long route by all means feel free
here's a list of everything
you can also pick up bits and pieces from character bios, interactions and the environmental storytelling on the maps
and if in doubt, you can ask here
the regulars are well informed
@peak escarp @worthy rose Thanks, to both you. This database looks very useful. Thanks for the link!
i figured
lol
was trying to change my nickname but then your message appeared
i dont understand does sigma recieve music from space?
its like what his hallucination or true music from space?
It's a reference to a famous math thing where someone theorized the planets were like a musical pattern
i feel like sombra is going to be a major role in ow2
only for the fact that there is A TON of robots in the games teasers and the zero hour short
Willing to bet that during one mission OW runs into Sombra and Baptiste.
she could be useful to hack the robots to death and i wouldnt be surpirsed if she joined ow becuase she is kinda known to blackmail
i would like that to be a mission tho, would give a bit of backstory to baptiste and sombra being "amigos in the past"
Zenyatta
Who the fuck is he
Just some guy
I mean
They designed every character to be a main character in their own story
They're just friends; Two omnic crisis orphans who had to do what they did to survive
Those words made me think of Eye of the Tiger
aliens will be true villains in ow2
no
Yeah, no
We are getting Zenyatta lore
He will be featured in Overwatch 2. He is related to the India mission.
And we've gotten confirmation it's coming too
Shitposting will result in a loss of access @deep oak
I’m not shitposting, I’m talking about the lack of Zenyatta lore
For me I want to know more about his time with Genji and the Shambli
We might get an answer soon, it has been confirmed the Zenyatta lore is coming
lack of zen lore is more of a meme than a problem
the only way he's tied to the storyline at all is helping genji, other than that he's not really associated with anyone or plays a role in the plot
if they find a way to make him part of the story, it should be done right without feeling like they're shoving him in
I feel like genji came to him for help with null sector, judging by the trailer
