Some don't think anything strange when they see the character thats been in their internal builds forever. Apparently even some people who were shown the Sigma leak didn't even notice Sigma wasn't a hero.

Not to mention, the hero is usually announced by this time. Some people may have just not gotten the timing right with Sigma and Role Queue timings, and had the image cleared, but for the wrong date

#

There are a lot of people involved in the chain from creating that piece of art to releasing it. Any one of them could have made the mistake.

My guess is that he's most likely an astrophysicist who discovered how to alter the fabric of space-time to a degree where he can warp and manipulate matter and potentially create wormholes in space. The menacing music could mean that he's using his technology for his own personal gain or could be affiliated with Talon or some generally antagonistic force in the Overwatch universe.

A secondary ability beam will be a wave anti-gravity beam that will lift a player in the air. (maybe lift or surge from advent rising)
