If he's basically a Heavy Assault with a barrier, then he'd be a strange mix of Rein and Orisa and would feel like playing Bob. I think they only showed him off as a colourful, loud character to contrast the more melancholy, bitter tones that Baptiste was giving off in this story.

Mauga - Hero 31, Heavy Assault+, love his personality. No one in the playable cast is fun and enjoys killing. You either have fun characters like Tracer or people who enjoy killing like Reaper.

But he is a Polynesian Heavy Assault with a shield described in the comic in a world with no Polynesian heroes other than maybe Roadhog where the people are begging for a Talon Tank.

And he has a lot of pictures in the short story

To contrast Bastet, we have no idea what Hamid looks like.

While Mauga got as many pictures as Baptiste, as well as 2 outfits.

Three if you count the unpictured armor and sunglasses he had on the Sainclaire raid.

We haven't had a hero shown this much before their reveal since Ana/technically Ashe.

And none in the present day since Genji maybe/still technically Ashe.

Been reading and digging deeper into Overwatch lore, and I read that Gabriel Reyes lead like a internal rebellion against Morrisons' leadership of Overwatch. Out of curiousity(that and I've been considering trying to create a match reflecting what happened, like an Blackwatch-styled team vs an Overwatch-styled team, maybe at Watchpoint Gibraltar). Was it pretty much like a bunch of nameless fodder/mooks on both sides fighting or were there named individuals like Genji or Mercy helping either side. Or as far as big names go - Reyes and Morrison were the only people there.

She's a white woman with red hair (the only white Lwa), she is the wife of Baron Samedi, the most powerful Lwa of death, she protects tombs, especially women's tombs, she can heal women who summon her, she loves to drink hot hot hot chili juice which gives her a super strong spicy breath. She comes from Ireland and is associated with Brigid, the celtic deity that our Brigitte is based on (a healer, a blacksmith and loved by poets, kind of like Rein and his grand stories). In game, upon respawning, one of Baptiste's voicelines is "Se tankou'm gen yon moun k ap veye sou mwen." which is creole for "It feels like someone is watching over me". There are some elements in Cuerva's log that show Baptiste has some things in common with Baron Samedi, Cuerva hopes that he will get Baptiste's back and they will play cards and drink rum, things that Baron Samedi loves, Cuerva says Baptiste "has the devil's own luck" meaning that he is incredibly lucky as if he had made a pact with the Devil, Lwas love pacts and contracts, especially Baron Samedi, they will, at times, prevent the death of someone who signed a contract with them until they complete their part of the deal. Not to say that Baptiste believes or practices voodoo, but some hints are there, probably just as background flavor and nothing more

People keep debating about the next heroes. We know that at least 5 heroes are being worked on right now. From a lore perspective, Mauga is looking very likely as Hero 31 to be released in approximately 2 weeks. In Baptiste's short story, they directly choose to mention his 'Energy shield'. The blizzard devs know people have been asking for a talon tank, so this teams like an intended tease. Other than that, we have confirmations Sojourn and Echo aren't Hero 31, most likely because Sojourn hasn't got much lore developed other than being apart of the Storm Rising operation. There is no factual evidence that a MEKA hero will be coming (so far). So we should just wait until the end of the event to find out, as I highly doubt any more lore expansions will come out between the period of today and June 30th, the estimated reveal date for the new hero.

And Nguyen doesn't seem very likely. Too bland and doesn't exactly represent his country of Vietnam. Overwatch prefer's characters to stand out and display cultural heritage, even more evidence towards Mauga. Not just this, but someone earlier mentioned that since he is a spray, he wont be a hero. This is fallacious. Brigitte was a spray and a comic character before her release. As well as moira, appearing in 'Masquerade' before release.

It’s a sort of design choice and observation.

The game rn has 16 dps heroes and 7 tanks and 7 supports.

Rn I think they want to put more focus on the supports and tank roles given how much people tend to enjoy dps more because it is still a game. Second based on design observations and the prevalent meta strat that is triple tank and triple support; they’re trying to steer away from anything that could inadvertently buff goats. Hammond was meant to be a disruptor, ashe’s dynamite was designed to hurt teams that clump together and burned through armor, and torbjorn’s rework ult was made explicitly to destroy tanks and zone. Baptiste was released and he mainly works in bunker comps only and isn’t really utilized in goats comp and when he is, it’s not to great success.

We know more about Lucio than Zen though, so he's probably a better one for a short if you had to pick between the two. Lucio's story is interesting, but we know nothing about Zen hardly at all
