Null Sector is the most plausible but it's not confirmed
It's all speculation till we hear more about him, which likely isn't until the next bit of talon lore
or a hero reveal if he's actually next
He is a candidate
hope ur all having a good day
thinking about the animated shorts
the cinematic trailer and Hero are the only ones from the perspective of an npc
Do Junk + Hog have any relations to the main storyline?
only distantly
they robbed the Dorado bank during the riots Sombra orchestrated
and it seems like McCree might be hunting them for their bounty
but it would explain why ana was so suprised when she saw his face
she was shocked because he was disfigured
It clashes horribly with the rest of his fairly massive backstory though, as well as several pictures.
and because she thought he was dead
@somber pilot what do you mean
Gabriel Tosh, Starcraft 2. I jest because the aesthetics are incredibly close
@peak escarp Talon is clearly working to use Anubis for something
and there's clearly a story behind Overwatch's intervention to contain it
it was referenced in Old Soldiers and Bastet
so if anything, Anubis seems all but guaranteed to be relevant again
So who are on the Talon council again?
Doomfist, Reaper, Moira, Maximillien, Sanjay, Vialli (deceased), Antonio (deceased)
Sombra and Widowmaker are elite agents
Hakim is a Talon-affiliated crime boss
And Baptiste used to be a Talon grunt.
How did we know that about Hakim?
Old Soldiers and Bastet
The new lore is that torb and rehin smashed jet pack cat and hammond was the result
said so in the lore
100 % real
!!shitposting
Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
this place is like the worst place to shitpost
some people come here to because they want attention and they'll get more in a slower moving channel like this
@devout sable Clearly? how so?
@peak escarp
Who is Hakim?
egyptian scum bag crime lord guy who Ana takes down with soldier's help in bastet
I asked ModMail if I could ask this, and they said yes, I was just wondering, what is Jetpack Cat and where did it come from?
it was a silly character concept
it never really saw the light of day, and never will
Oh, there was an animation called Bastet and Soldier 76 was in it and they took down a crime boss so I just related them together
the idea got repurposed into Brigitte making tiny jetpacks for her cats
which is a nod to that concept
Okay
Dilangoo was commissioned to make an animation for Blizzard, they may be referring to that
I wouldn't take that too strongly as canon as it is made to be cats, but there could be canon stuff mixed in
Yeah, I figured it was based on a canon story but they weren't actually cats
the concept of Jetpack Cat (cute animal controlling a mech) was also used for Hammond
so that concept has already been explored
But instead of a cat it would be a Hamster?
yep
I thought so
I wonder, why did DF and the Omnic met at the Temple of Anubis
Does that hold any significance?
They probably met because they were talking about working with Talon.
Lets theoretically say that the Omnic is related to the Null Sector. Null Sector operated in London, right?
Where are the HQs of Talon
Venice
Even after Retribution?
Alright. So, if theoretically, the Omnic has to do with Null Sector (based in London) and wants to meet with DF (based in Venice) then why Egypt?
I now want our new omnic to have a stereotypical evil British accent
His voice is like gruff American
But...
would it be a neutral location? Cause I assume Hakim is running the show there at this time
then they're there because Talon has a presence there
read the comic Mission Statement
long story short, the Anubis Project was an AI system shut down by Overwatch about a decade ago. Anubis itself seems to have been an integral part of Cairo's infrastructure, and shutting it down destabilized the area.
It broke confinement in present day, and Pharah's team was sent to secure it.
yeah, but who made it?
is it supposed to be something like "ultron" from the avengers?
no idea
or just a virus?
like ultron if avengers had robot ppl and ultron could take control of them
with the scepter where he mind controlled people
so it has an intelligence and it's not just a virus
except less charismatic and more death to everything
perfect
I assume it was made by the Omnica Corporation, like pretty much every other robot
it's a program that doesn't have it's own body, but it can hijack omnics through a hivemind system
What was it's original purpose?
we don't know
like I said, it was tied into Cairo's infrastructure somehow, so maybe it was an attempt at making a Smart City
When does everyone think Tracer met Emily? It's not important to the lore but it just intrigues me.
We’ve never been given a date
I could only guess sometime after Overwatch shut down
Also would Anubis be self-improving like the Kishin omnics?
Not currently
Talon have a lot of power behind them and Sombra would likely be able to stop Anubis if they hired her for it
stop? unlikely
why would she do that
she is smart enough to subdue and take it for her own instead
good point
based on interactions from Storm Rising, Tracer and Emily have been dating at least 6 years
Tracer says "this would be a great place to bring Emily"
Oh yeah
my question is why aren't they married yet
Tracer might not want the burden on Emily of being a widow if she gets killed in action?
but Overwatch was shut down for 5 years with no sign of returning
unless Tracer was being a vigilante in those 5 years . . .
Tracer is working in rogue overwatch though and as we saw in Alive she still engages with Talon when the need arises
It'd make an interesting story, if she's hesitant to marry
Personal relationships aren't explored that much in OW
She had time to do so
thst could be a character trait - Tracer doesn't like being tied down/afraid of commitment
She might be scared to after what happened to Ana and her relationship with her family
She wouldn’t want to die
Since I’m pretty sure she still thinks ana is dead
True
would orisa be asexual?
Orisa probably doesn’t understand love considering how young she is
I don't think Efi would have programmed her with a sex drive
So, kind of like asexual?
Although we have seen robots with humans as couples
She’s self-improving like omnics right?
she is an omnic
did you know, it was confirmed by jeff kaplan that winston went through a phase of throwing his shit across the room.
!!shitposting

@polar tundra Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
@peak escarp dont think it is important to get married actually unless there is social benefits
i can whine about marriage being an outdated construct and whatever but not the topic here
eh
I do think the tracer-emily lone might be a standard line for that map, instead of something for storm rising
it just seems like something that long term couples usually do
and srsly whever think efi would even think of programming anything sexual on orisa is fucked up
it's part of an interaction that has a response from Sojourn
i did not get that interaction =.= sigh
in that case yeah tracer has been steady with emily for a long time
I heard it once, and I found it in the game files
i heard the one about people thinking it is too easy to catch max
and some other chitchat
wish i can hear the emily one
probably should play a few more times then
Tracer: This will be a great place for a holiday with Emily.
Sojourn: Depending on how things turn out, I might be able to swing you all a few days leave before you need to report back to base.
Tracer: How's that for motivation!
For more information about the game, please refer to the wiki: https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Storm_Rising/Quotes
Albeit mostly unsorted in terms of occurance
Baptiste still doesn't have a quotes page
nevermind
he didnt when I looked last week
must be new
Page was made March 1st
jewvia runs the wiki pages well :3
yes
also interesting things as i read all quotes in one roll
Tracer: You're doing just fine. Why, my first mission, I threw up on the train heading into the city!
An interesting bit of side-lore :3
@polar tundra source?
jeff kaplan is my dad
Also, how much of a human remains in Sojourn
that's not a valid source
uhhh yeah it is
I think she just has cyborg arms and cranial implants
Sojourn seem to mean she is quite modified as well.
''' Sojourn: Tell me. When you look at me, do you think, "There's a machine that looks like Sojourn," or "That's Sojourn?"
Genji: You're Sojourn, of course.
Sojourn: See? You'll figure it out. You have a good head on your shoulders.'''
also of note is that this ie BEFORE the egypt incident.
and since there is accessment of medical situation, we can assume this is not jsut a situation about omnic
i mean, if it were about omnic being enslaved and such mercy would not access health problem related to omnic, if there is such a thing as health on omnic
MY FINAL THOUGHT: The whole storm rising thing, is a setup, most likely Max.
After reading all the things and thinking back how Max talks in the comic. Yes, it seems likely he gets caught deliberately.
the leak on his position, the explosive truck, and everything. (even taken into account this is a cheap budget event,a s said by Jeff, only 50% effort/time/resources)
the Egypt situation has already started
Sojourn says Mercy might get sent in as medical aid
I don't think Max would go through all that effort to let Overwatch capture him so he could give away Doomfist's location
it would be easier to just leak the location anonymously
@high thunder "When does everyone think Tracer met Emily? It's not important to the lore but it just intrigues me."
personally, I speculate they might've met during the King's Row Uprising
though it's probably a little clichéd
Who’s Emily?
either way, they were already close with each other by Storm Rising
@desert hawk Tracer's girlfriend
Ah...
. . .
do people normally call their mother by first name or kiss their mother full on the mouth like that?
Might have just seen someone else mentioning Emily in passing somewhere else.
Still weird to call your mom by her first name
The interactions quoted here have her saying "Emily", not "mom". Or, uh, "mum"
Yeah, I just didn’t think it through
because the weird thing here is calling your mom by her first name and not making out with her
Overwatch is still in Phase One of its MCU-like story. Which means their version of The Avengers is coming. https://t.co/yIIdwgM408

“That said, we feel like that phase is coming to an end,” he teases. “We've moved a lot of the pieces that we need to explain into place.”
“It's very intentional that the first story [2017’s Uprising] was eight years ago, [2018’s Retribution was] seven years ago, and this one is six years ago,” says Chu.
Chu got the order wrong

he is but a story geek who created a wonderful optimistic universe
not an interviewer guy
interviewee?
person to be interviewed
yeah, he's got a bad track record with interviews
whats the correct order?
Retribution is 8 years ago
Uprising is 7 years ago
Storm Rising is 6 years ago
Was that it? I was under the assumption that Storm Rising is present day after Winston does his recall and after he fought of reaper and widow at the museum
it's pretty dense and out of order the way it's presented
but thanks for clearing that up
especially with the same outfits and the character don't really look older or younger at a given time period
I'm working on making a timeline of the recent lore by hero
and since there's so many, I'm doing it in two parts
here's Ana to Moira
so the official ages applies to the present time or is it something else. e.g mei being 40
the ages listed in their bios are present day
Mei's listed age doesn't include the 9 years she was frozen
so she's biologically 31, but chronologically 40
god tracer is young in uprising then
reflections, that christmas comic. tracer hardly looks any older than she was in havana. not to mention same outfit
women don't age that much between 20 and 26
also the same outfit can be blamed on the superhero/cartoon style of the lore
they need to be recognizable, so they have signature outfits
makes since
sense
in a way it's fun to piece it together
ffxv is a bit similar, except a lot of fans don't like it
Isn’t mercy biologically younger than her chronological age due to the Valkyrie suit?
She just has really good Swedish genes
One more PSA for the day: Tracer does age. The characters some people assume are trapped in time (Tracer, Mercy, Widowmaker, Mei) all age.
Swiss, not Swedish
here's the other half
You should have done it in release order
For when new heroes get added
They slot in easier
We have release order going up to the first hero in the game.
good idea
!!wiki Heroes#List_of_Heroes_by_release_date
For more information about the game, please refer to the wiki: https://overwatch.gamepedia.com/Heroes#List_of_Heroes_by_release_date
I did take a guess on the exact time of a few things
but this covers everything that has happened since Recall
the only hero we haven't seen since recall is Hammond (assuming that Cuerva's report about going to capture Baptiste happens in present day)
Time to start some nitpicking
1 - Mei was active before the Exhibit
Overwatch is Back happened the day of, and talks about a lot of the stuff that happened already
Such as Mei/Lucio/DVa
So you need more space between Alive and the Exhibit
I figured there was only a few weeks or less between Recall and the Exhibit
Not enough time for Mei
that article is also contradicted by later sources
Its still one of our few temporal sources for events happening, and there is little indication to give the time between the Exhibit and Recall
specifically about Mei - that article suggests that she is someone Overwatch might recruit, but she was already an Overwatch member
She was never an Overwatch agent, that's not a retcon. She was always just a scientist
Likewise, the world wouldn't know she is a modern day agent either
But it is weird
I didn't say agent, I said member
it also talks about her as if she was active years before the fight in the museum
Because the article mentions earlier Mei's work in Overwatch in reversing climate damage
And then mentions her later as an active party.
Yeah its
Weird
But I will still rely on the idea that Mei became active before the Exhibit
In the past few weeks, investigators confirmed that a number of violent incidents across the world, including Monday's attempted museum heist, have involved several notable former Overwatch operatives.
this phrasing makes me think the exhibit happens a few weeks to a month after Recall
"Monday's attempted heist" means this article is written shortly after that event
It makes me think that they recently connected the crimes to Overwatch and suggested its Recall.
Lucio saving his favela and D.Va becoming a mech pilot/celebrity also happened recently
A Better World shows Symmetra securing the contract that Lucio would be fighting against, and that was confirmed to be set "around Recall"
and due to D.Va's age, she couldn't have been recruited that long ago
I know we don't have a surplus of lore so just ignoring things is bad, but I'm skeptical of anything written before launch
the commenters, as usual, are a band of clueless idiots
@limpid agate @peak escarp actually i think while technically Mei does join the recall, there is no confirmation that she has becoem an active agent.
Mei could well be a R&D staff and scientist working on ecopoint rather than active agent, maybe only help out once in a while
make me think of that one voiceline winston have in storm rising, apparently at that time winston is totally new to the active agent stuff for ow, not first mission but stillr eather green on that
so yeah Mei may or may not be an active agent, but definitely part of the newverwatch
(keyword is agent , vs member)
the thing is, everyone knows tracer, and pretty sure people know where tracer is living, and yet no actions is taken.
if anything the media seems to be quite positive of her action
maybe she is unofficially accepted, as ong as she stay vigilante and not bringng out the overwatch flag officially
kinda a hush-hush case, mostlyc ause the bigwig have even bigger problems at hand, namely OWII, signalling overwatch is indeed needed
i mean OWII as in Omnic War II
sounds confusing so maybe need another name for it
shit i copypasta too quick oops. =.=
does it matter if she becomes an active agent?
that's irrelevant to putting their lore on a timeline
the name we have for "omnic war 2" is the Second Omnic Crisis
Irvine
Irvine
Oh duh
where the real-life Blizz HQ is
would be funny to see an OW vs Talon fight at Blizzard World
Also I know it's so the map can have all the blizzard properties on it, but as far as park design goes, Pylon terrace makes no sense. It should be with the rest of the Starcraft stuff in the north part of the park, not weirdly dividing the stormwind and diablo sections
I wonder if we'll ever get other sections of the park as maps
they'd be good for deathmatch
the lake for elimination and the mountain for DM
Murloc Island would be great for Elimination
They should make blizzard world irl
why are people irl so against omnics being treated like people?
first off, it's just a video game so there's no point in getting mad over it
and second, giving them rights doesn't harm anyone
well some people are just dicks
but for things like voting there's a genuine philosophical argument about AI
because, like
how do you tell they weren't specifically programmed to vote a certain way by their creator without showing it otherwise
and "getting inside" to look is questionable morally
there's also a real draw for people to be fictionally racist
like how you know if someone plays a dwarf in d&d they'll spend the entire time shit talking elves
and vice-versa
I dunno why this is a thing
but it is a thing
that's about playing in-character which is understandable
but it's not like people talking shit on omnics are RPing zarya
Cause stereotypes exist as a result of our brains trying to rationalize the world. It was a survivor instinct back in the day to recognize behavior and associate or stereotype it with other groups. It's also easier to do that with fantasy elements like orcs. Most orcs are shown to be hideous muscle heads. I have yet to see one where the orcs are fancy british tea drinking handsome pacifists. They do it cause it's easy for story telling
And also I guess easier to characterize as well as to form a connection "Oh you're the musclehead, oh you're the pretty one, etc..." despite us all consciously knowing we're more than that. It's also why self grouping is a big thing. Stuff like Harry potter houses are like that
As for that one thing saying Mei "might become an Overwatch agent"
It might not be contradictory, Mei might never have spoken about her involvement in Overwatch so people are just speculating
I suspect post-recall overwatch will not be as rigid and formal an organization, since it'll still be illegal
I see Mei being an active combatant for Overwatch the same way I view Newt Scamander working for the wizarding government as an aurer. It doesn't make sense cause
She is a climatologist
And He is a glorified zoo keeper
But hey ppl do what people wanna do for story telling
yeah
I assume the reason Tracer and Winston haven't been arrested is that because they caught the bad guys people forgave them
I was assuming it's cause Tracer has super speed and is a sort of celebrity that people normally wouldn't call it in
And Winston has a jet that they could escape with
I wonder if Sojourn has had a run in with Reaper
She'd've probably been one of the former highest ranking members of Overwatch known to still be alive
she'd probably be able to fend him off
So since Sojourn has been confirmed as a hero, shell probably be a damage class. What do you guys think her weapons and abilities will be?
No idea, whatever fps tropes blizzard hasn't mined yet
not really our area of concern
So many hints dropped and left for speculation
Echo from Reunion, Sojourn, that Omnic that was talking to Doomfist.
yep
Echo is the most fascinating cause she's so different. Not to mention she's apparently pivotal to the plot
Don't expect her to come out this year
echo 32 maybe
I think in 2-3 more years we'll get Echo
Yea I know
not very optimistic huh
Jeff stated that she wasn't ready yet and heroes 31 wasn't sojourn or echo so I'm taking it to mean they got a lot more set up to do before they further introduce her
I think Echo will be added at Blizzcon
31 hamid/queen is my bet
echo at blizzcon along with a recall actually happening cinematic
In the new year's comic
Was genji and Zen at Nepal?
And does the new year comic take place after Genji and Hanzo's cinematic?
yes and yes
Dragons happened in the spring, just after Recall
Reflections was in December, obviously
This is something they really have to like explain cause the way travel works in the Overwatch universe is actually insane
Genji went from Japan to Nepal and that actually blows my mind
they invented these things
they're big metal tubes with wings that are powered by big engines
you might have heard of them
Junkrat and Roadhog literally travel all over the world as wanted criminals and Genji I don't understand or know if he has funds
to actually travel doc
Genji probably has money left over from when he was in Blackwatch
Junkrat and Roadhog steal a lot, and probably have criminal connections to travel
same with Soldier
they probably have connections anything since overwatch used to be global
Yea but that doesn't mean they will. I don't expect everyone to know everyone in a organization.
ah but there are also regular citizens that were fans of overwatch
as much as there is scrutiny with public relations to be fair
I'd really like to meet Jim, the airplane pilot who flies ex overwatch agents around the world
or even Crooked Bill, the guy who takes criminals of all types around the world for a right sum of money
I guess I could see Winston flying Genji where he needed to be but I'm not entirely sure about that
Genji probably just took commercial flights, like Mei did
the Junkers could have been stowaways on ships
even Widowmaker took a commercial flight and she's purple
(or at the very least, arrived at a public airport)
overwatch facilities seems to be untouched for the most part even after its disbanded
most of them were taken over by Helix Security
Ah, another organization i overlooked
Wouldn’t widowmaker be a wanted figure around the world
I dunno, i thought being a sniper is about being kept in low profile
i don't think her career choice is publically known
People probably know that talon have a purple skinned assassin, something like that isn’t very easy to hide when she’s used so much
Mmmm
Only Tracer and a few guards saw her at King’s
No one at Volskaya would’ve known who she is
They hardly ever mention her skin color if at all in the lore
Two children a gorilla and tracer saw her in the museum
There’s not exactly a plethora of witnesses
Nor are any of them reliable narrators
it's a pretty hard story for any grown adult to swallow if it came from two kids
kids
guards that probably had concussions
members of a group that was illegalized and decided to reform
I think the biggest mystery is that conspiracy behind all of the organizations
which sombra was trying to get to the bottom of
Could be a super intelligent AI
Although it could be that there is no actual group behind the conspiracy abut she wants there to be one
I think it's just a benign observer and Sombra is paranoid
^
because if she had all the knowledge in the world, she would use it to manipulate people
so she assumes anyone else would too
but it could just be gathering knowledge for the sake of knowledge
Helloh
do you have a lore question?
If Winston has to pay taxes, is he legally able to drive a car?
get him a truck
I don't think a truck would be big enough for him
You'd need to personally create a huge af car
steering wheel and everything
which like idk why you would since he has a jet
Is Winston even allowed just out and about? I mean, idk what is considered normal in the OW universe but if I saw a gorilla grocery shopping I'd be at least a bit shocked
we don't know what sort of rights he has
I mean if he's paying taxes, he better get some rights
lol yeah
I guess that's an indication that he's considered a person
in the legal sense
truth be told
I kinda expect him to be wealthy
Having patents on a bunch of scientific inventions or whatever
I mean even if he did have that right, I'd still be worried of civilians freaking out
He did invent Tracer's Chronal accelerator/harness thing which I assume wouldn't be his only contribution to science
he probably doesn't go out much
Also I actually think the opposite
I think a lot of people would actually love to see Winston
Cause he is known for being a hero the same Way Tracer is in the launch cinematic
Little kid was talking about him taking down doomfist with primal punch
True, he does have hero status, and the kid in the museum short thought he was pretty awesome and neither of them freaked too much to see him per se
Reaper: Poor Winston, has to hide away so he doesn't scare the children.
Winston: I don't think even children are afraid of you.
idk maybe some ppl are afraid of him?
Assuming he got adopted by that Lijang scientist and got made a citizen of some other country as well as being a well known hero
I'd say Winston's pretty in the clear
Understandably. It probably varies from person to person, but maybe those in charge tell him not to appear publicly just in case
I mean who tells him what to do tho?
Like genuinely I don't think anyone has any right to actually tell winston what he can and cant do
especially since his i guess job would be inventor
I assume someone would have to be in charge of looking after him? I'm not sure. He seems to be the only talking animal in that universe that would be out and about, so idk
I guess it all goes back to if he's considered a citizen or not, and what rights he has if he even is limited
he might have had a handler while Overwatxh was active, but he wouldn't have one now
Winston just reading a book in a lab coat
Military soldier guy "H-hey there big f-fella... W-want a banana?"
Winston looks over: "No I don't want a banana."
^
Also later gents
I got an exam
and I am terrified
Winston and Tracer don't live near each other though
Reflections showed that Winston just has Athena
True, but she keeps in touch with him enough so maybe that's good enough?
I mean then again, Widowmaker did go to a party being full on purple so maybe everyone is just chill about that kind of stuff
@gentle token Winston is world-famous
in a future with cyborgs and robots, purple skin probably isn't a big deal
but she was also with Doomfist - would you say anything?
Very true
Doomfist being at a party is a sign I need to leave and go find another party
The OG Strike team might not've had a healer
Before Mercy's tech came around having a healer on missions might not've been a thing
Maybe Widow wears a mask in public to avoid easy detection
A mask
we know she uses the name Danielle Guillard
Yes
We haven't seen her wear a mask in public in the comics so my theory is probably wrong
She may not go out in public alone too much tbh
Huh....
What do you think Widow does in her spare time?
besides like I guess train?
I meant alone as in not monitored by Talon.
Which doesn't make sense in this convo
Sorry, ignore this
What if one of the heroes have to take a leak on the battlefield
Do they just like hey guys pause real quick gotta take a pee, or like do they just go in their pants, or what if you fart to much and need to go wipe ya know
!!shitposting @modest fulcrum
@modest fulcrum Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
no this is for real
what if this leads to major discoveries in overwatch or hero lore
how do modern day soldiers deal with it? they go before
this isn't going to be a major revelation
too much info
Lowkey i kinda want an answer to that question
wtf XD
Serious discussion strictly related to Overwatch
The Lore in this chat
is that an alt made after getting muted?
lmao
anyway
I'd like some more story on McCree/Ashe and the deadlock gang
Anything in particular?
mainly a shot of like Jessie and Ashe doing crime together and then seeing the fallout he had and why he left
I’m pretty sure he didn’t leave until Reyes have him the opportunity to join blackwatch when McCree was in jail
well still i wanna see him commit crime with Ashe and the rest of the gang
is torbs deadlock skin canon?
Nope
deadlock is also just a phrase and doesn't necessarily refer to the deadlock gang
IIRC the devs said that some skins aren't canon and are just "what if" ideas. What if Torb was Deadlock, what if Ana was a pirate, etc. But do we have confirmation about Torb Deadlock specifically?
there's kinda two Deadlock "gangs"
one is the Deadlock Rebels biker gang that Torbjorn's skin is a reference to (and was presumably founded in 1976, according to McCree's tattoo)
i would like more what if skins
the other is the Deadlock Gang that Ashe, McCree and two others founded when they were teenagers (they borrowed the logo from the Deadlock Rebels)
like what if reyes stayed overwatch and soldier 76 was talon
@dapper shuttle https://twitter.com/westofhouse/status/1058941206212702209
@GeekInfinitero I can safely say Torbjörn was not in the Deadlock gang.
we don't know if the Deadlock Biker Club is the same as the Deadlock Rebels
still, there's a Deadlock biker club and the Deadlock Gang
yes
What does the letters on McCrees belt stand for?
Whats people's most favourite character lore-wise? ^^
I really love Widowmaker
Although it is kinda messed up. I just love how she became such a ruthless assassin ;p
McCree, obviously
Hahaha xD
i wish we could have like a zenyatta animation short and get a visual about his life
Yes I know
he's a pretty myserious character
I really hope he is the next one to get anything related to lore
If it be a comic, an animation or whatever
Anything
mhm
Reapers my favourite in lore and design
d. va lorewise? idk
Design wise I really love Tracer
Lore wise I really like Zenyatta mainly cause i have a weird imagination of him starting off as like a MLK jr figure transforming int buddha
isnt that more like Mondatta?
I know he only just came out and is his lore is very secondary to his design but I rather like baptiste
The whole bad guy turned good angle is fun
I'm interested to see where he goes
SAme
He’s an interesting one for sure
Do we have any idea who might have developed his tech?
He scavenged the technology to literally prevent people from dying to a nuclear explosion?
not every ability is canon
some are explicitly not canon
others exist but work differently
like Tracer can pull out her Pulse Bomb whenever, but she only carries one
and she can throw it like a frisbee
well, they are hu,manpids and there is physics, so while you cant do many things in game in lore they can
One obvious case is that if a character carry equipment in lore like pistols and 'nades then in lroe they will surely use it if needed
Interesting what abilities are explicitly not canon?
(talking about all those accessories ppl have, like 76's pistol in some lore skins
things like resurrect are obviously not canon
and some are a rare one time thing and rastically different, like dva's ult
and many healing are not surely real, like zen's heal and msot lucio and brig
also most character have limited amount of munition and equipment on them, so not limited except for a few obvious or not obvious ase
Nothing about zen is canon realistically since there’s just about no lore on him
Yes, reaper does pull his guns outta nowhere sorta though
I know his wraith form is a lot more intimidating canonically
well i am sure he can punch or kick stuff yes
and he is able to float and float things
but then again unless someone is a vagetable (not vegeta) they can be assumed to be able to punch and kick, and obviously can whack people wit their heavy equipment if needed
there is a link on confirmed ability
Who do y’all think is he most OP?
zarya is the most op in the bae metric
physical strength-wise it's probably angry winston
but since cashmoney trumps everything, the real op is max or ashe
I mean for every character there’s a counter to deal with them so no one is really OP per se it’s the players skill that makes characters “OP”
uh

This channel is for serious discussion strictly related to the lore of Overwatch. Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
Zenyatta, already has a map dedicated to him, needs the lore now, waited a long time and I think this should come soon
he's a very minor character
I don't think we'll get more on him unless he becomes more important to the plot
which he very likely will probably not
I could see Genji bringing him to new Overwatch
He's slightly more relevant than Lucio
if only because of the Genji connection
He's not like, more important to the setting than Lucio
but he's more relevant
I mean I don't see why he would or why Zen would go along with it given that
- In story he's not a combatant since I assume the Shambali which are very reminiscent of Buddhist monks
- He walks his life bringing his wisdom to people and such and so I can't imagine a traveling monk who helps people or whatever being dragged along to a more or less area of danger.
- I can't imagine Genji dragging his defenseless omnic teacher to potential death to do what exactly?
He’s not
He’s an Omnic monk who left a monastery
Lucio is like
The leader of a revolution
I think Lucio is more relevant
Overwatch isn't just about fighting
Overwatch is a platform Zen could use to spread his message to more people
in terms of the main plot of Overwatch vs Talon, Lucio is completely irrelevant
he's a tertiary character at best
I don't think it's a platform really considering that Overwatch is currently illegal and probably in trouble so I don't think you want to arrest robot Buddha or even bring him in there
I think Zenyatta would be curious about Genji's friends, and want to help ease some of the suffering in the world
he wouldn't be a combatant
he would be there as moral support (and healing, if he has any canonical healing abilities)
we've seen a lot of things saying new Overwatch is illegal, but nobody seems to be doing anything about it
Yea but why would they need moral support? Genji seems pretty well centered, Tracer and Winston are convinced they're doing the right thing, and McCree seems pretty much doing his own thing without any internal strife or conflict really. I think he'd be working around the world and do his own thing since that's how he met Genji
i have a thought sequence
Zen is an omnic monk
so, what do monks usually do one they finish their studies?
they go out and share their message
everyone can use moral support, no matter how centered they are
i will say that Zen does help me calm down when i play him
anyway
continuing with my sequence
that's basically what Zenyatta did - he went out into the world to spread his message of equality and acceptance
and changed people's lives, including Genji
so, if zen does happen to join OW, how would that help him spread his message?
i mean
he would be able to travel better
he could help reform Overwatch's image
he doesn't have to join Overwatch to participate in the plot
but, the governments of the world already dispise the idea of new OW anyway, that would take a good amount of persuasion to change what they think
We haven’t seen any indication that the government despises New Overwatch
and, most of the world governments hate omnics, so they probably wouldn't listen to him in the first place
Not most.
except Numbani
most?
And France
and some others i can't think of
And Cuba
anyone else?
And Rialto
and Japan
And Afghanistan
and Korea
I mean the recall was basically just sent, would anyone outside of overwatch even know overwatch is getting the band back together?
some governments don't recognize omnics as people
some do
@half pasture there was an Atlas News article about Overwatch returning
some of the world's governments hate omnics, so he wouldn't get his message everywhere
emphasis on some
he doesn't need to get it everywhere
the united nations consists of a good amount of countries, he would need to get his message to a lot of places to have major impact
surprisingly, Korea is pretty okay with omnics, despite being attacked by some every few months
the impact is making humans and omnics equal
hmm
I also don't remember seeing them in Zarya's comic
there are signs for omnic shops on the Busan Downtown map
elaborate, please
and it was confirmed that DVa is okay with non-Gwishin omnics
What shops?
And just because DVA is okay with them doesn't mean the country itself is. Tracer being a clear example of cool with omnics but the UK being not
null sector ruined any hope of equallity in the UK
there was the groundbreaking
things were going good
but then
null sector came and then everything turned south
no
that's what i thought
it's supposed to be unreadable by non-omnics
well, they did a pretty good job of that
also, another question
conserning null sector
Who runs them, or is it just a code in certain systems that make them extremists?
we don't know much about them
they are just a rebel faction of omnics who used terrorism to fight for rights
Does Torbjorn understand the Omnic language?
while there's no confirmation whether he does or doesn't, it's very highly unlikely that he does
unless there's some some place in the comics or an interaction laying around where he does speak to bastion and it's not just guessing what bastion is saying
It’s highly unlikely any humans (or gorillas, or hamsters) do
Someone must have known at some point when making them though
Would be kinda funny if the secret was just lost forever when Omnica went down
i'd be sure that of all the heroes, only bastion, orisa, zen, and maybe bob know the omnic language
and wrecking ball (not hammond but the mech itself)
would wrecking ball be considered an omnic?
he's a robot and robots are omnics
that could just be interpretive
Probably yeah
on this subject, is snowball a drone or an omnic?
but snowball seems to have an ai
I don’t think they have to be made in an omnium to be considered an omnic
eg orisa
chu has also stated on multiple occasions that omnic and robot are interchangeable
in fact, I’m pretty sure torbjorn addresses snowball as a robot in an interaction with mei
which would be proof that snowball is an omnic
it seems that this conversation has been had before and people have said snowball isn’t an omnic
but I think I’ve displayed enough evidence to say otherwise and I haven’t seen any counterevidence so I’m just gonna assume snowball is an omnic
The literal definition of omnic is ‘robot made in an omnium’
But now everyone knows them for the whole being actually sentient thing so the terms got confused
Snowball definitely isn’t an omnic
even putting the literal definition aside
Omnic is used for sentient robots, not just AI
we’ve seen no evidence of snowball being sentient
and the same for WB’s mech
e
Is it possible that every year for archives we would get events that happen 1 year apart?
possible but not likely
There's a lot of interesting events in Overwatch's history and they don't all happen one year apart from another
Original strike team missions could be a thing if we ever get a healer for the original strike team
Wrecking Ball is not an omnic
they were very clear about that when Hammond was released
Snowball is a drone
It would be cool if there was an Archives event where you play as Talon
Maybe they could do the Masquerade comic
people would feel ripped off if you played through a mission we already saw
good point
We would need more Talon members from the past being made heroes
Which I don't see
We're still in our developmental stages for our overwatch universe
@peak escarp in the sam way the Wball is a drone, with a pilot
as for omnic language, what lil info we have it seems you need an uplonk to understand its content
so the language/tag we see is sorta like qr code where it points to a certain batch of info somewhere on some web.
pretty sure if you have ability to get info from the needed addy of the uplonk one can decrypt it with proepr equipment
so MEATBAGS cannot read them, but cybernetic implant might allow for that
so i would think ppl liek zombra wouuld have the required upgrades to read them easy
maybe young ana
But if you are around them loads will you learn their language?
in other words, hammond as wball can read it via wball most likely, but not hammond himself msot likely
unless his chip include uplinks
@high thunder not porbably
it is like qr code, if you learn to read qr code you still cannot get the info posted on the link, not unless you have an uplink to the proper address with the info
and if you have a link to the address and info you probably be easier just getting it with yoru device
that said, it is most likely that there are easy device available for omnic translation everywhere
ah
I think most omnics just speak human languages and omnicode isn't translatable unless you are an omnic
@peak escarp well supposed the code should be readable if you ahve a device that allow you to fetch the proper piece of information?
think there was a post explaining that omnic codes are more like qr code that points to infos
possibly, but I don't think people care that much
we've been told it doesn't translate
where does it say it cannot translate?
probably not physically translate, like you cannot tell content of a qr code just by translating the code itself
Not one to one. The original idea for omnicode (and something I'd still love to do someday) is that all the omnic language you see should be animated: it's not intended to be a language that humans (who haven't been augmented) could read easily.
yes
the augmented part tells me cyborgs and ppl like zombra with upgrades
this would also mean it is not omnic only and with a bit of a droid or drong or other deide human can decipher it
also the CURRENT OMNIC LANGUAGE that we have in lroe ARE NOT ANIMATED
thye probably still function as a link fo sorts though
It is animated in Bastions HUD
do omnics speak hindi
no
I would assume that they would have the ability to speak many languages.
I'm sure Indian omnics do
think all omnics probably use omnic language as first language
but yes it is easy for robots to have langauage packs and most likely omnic would ahve ability to speak language common for the area as such
so yeah india omnic should be able to speak a few indian languages needed
hindi is big enough for omnic in the area to understand
as for the animated omnic signs, would they still look naimated if the viewing omnic does not have an uplink to anything?
Like c3peo
I imagine most Omnic-to-Omnic communication is non-verbal
Also, I personally think that BOB never gained free will like the other Omnics did
He still seems to do exactly what Ashe orders him to do
do you mean telepathic, cause like
human communication is pretty wireless
By wireless I mean "through radio waves and stuff"
I wonder what relevance the fact that Omnica was shut down before the crisis has (or had, given that First Strike may have used it as a plot point) on the lore
maybe Bob does what Ashe tells him to because he wants to
Yes, but I can't imagine how Ashe would punish him if he ever decided to break ranks
She might have reprogrammed Bob herself or something like that
I doubt it
from her origin story, Bob has been serving their family since Ashe was at least a teenager
Yes
why would Ashe need to punish him?
Ashe would need to punish him if Bob ever disobeyed
if Bob wanted to leave, he could and there would be no way for Ashe to stop him
Considering how big Bob is I can't imagine it would go well for Ashe if Bob got into a disagreement with her
Bob may have been made before the Crisis
Omnica shutting seems like a mostly extraneous detail apart from the fact that it meant that the sudden revolt was even more surprising
I think I've come to a compromise on what happened to civilian Omnics before the Crisis
They gained free will at the same time the Omniums did but couldn't show it
thus when the collective intelligence or whatever decided to rebel they had free will already and thus had a choice between sides
why would they need to gain free will?
they must've gained free will at some point
it was never said that they weren't created with the ability to choose and make decisions for themselves
But why would you make a robot with free will?
they are robots with the ability to learn
But they must've learned free will somewhere
That would just be an invitation to unintended consequences if they were made with free will
unintended consequences . . . like the omnic crisis?
By "free will" I mean "the ability to maliciously disobey human commands"
But I doubt Omnica would've intentionally built robots with free will
we don't know anything about Omnica
Theoretically, it could've wanted the Omnic crisis from the start
possibly
I wonder if one of the reasons the Omnic crisis was so hard to stop was that Omnica execs destroyed many of the company's records in order to avoid prosecution
we know extremely little about civilian-type omnics during the Omnic Crisis
it annoys me
Yes which is why I would want to learn more
cause their whereabouts were definitely common knowledge in-universe
but we get nothing
yes
My current theory is that the civilian Omnics remaining at the end of the Crisis were either manufactured in the early days of the Crisis or before the Crisis
Maybe the civilian Omnics were controlled by the Omniums, but after they were destroyed the Omnics had free will (with when they acquired it still a mystery)
Perhaps what happened is that because the Omnics were programmed to follow a master, the Omniums acted in that role, and without a master they were just left with free will
we know the Omnics never attempted to negotiate with humans until the Crisis ended
My "no master" theory still doesn't explain why there were so many civilian Omnics manufactured
We also don't know if any Omnics who were away from the Omniums revolted on their own
I think the "civilian" omnics are the ones made for domestic labor - cashiers, light labor, childcare, etc.
yes
so there would be more of those made than the ones made for heavy labour or for war
However, if they didn't have free will during the Crisis, I'm not sure why many of the pre-existing civilian Omnics would be spared
I imagine there may have been many civilian Omnics waiting in storage in the Omniums
We know Omnica didn't design the Bastions, but we do know that the Nigerian omnium made OR-14s pre-Crisis
Omnica may not have designed the Bastions, but they probably produced them based on the Ironclad Guild's design
Designed
do cars just have the ability to hover indefinitely without using up all their power?
every parked car i see in OW just hovers there with their lights on
Maybe? I don't think we know too much about how tech works in the ow universe
Well, maybe sure is a safe answer then. 😂
tech works however looks coolest
^
when it's done
like seriously they seem to be entirely on blizzard time
There will always be one saved for blizzcon but the others just seem to be whenever
No
Its always August and November
The only exception was before the game came out
Where we got 4 leading up to launch
comics are the ones that we get when they're done
a lot of people (myself included) were expecting a comic with Archives
but we've only gotten a comic with Archives for 2 years, and 2 isn't enough of a pattern to be reliable
I would consider 3 years the minimum for establishing patterns
reaper has appeared in 5 comics, 7 if including junkenstein
he's appeared in 3 animated shorts aswell
he appears in moira and soldier and ana's origin stories too
sombra's if you want to count his small appearance
he's had a lot of time in the spotlight
i want to see other characters with less lore, maybe lucio or zen
i believe lucio has appeared in 0 comics, 0 origin stories, and 0 shorts
he's appeared in a singular short story and i believe that's it
I think Ranger was an army guy that went through a slipgate and is now trying to find his way home
ranger?
who do you mean by ranger
this isn't a quake server
Discussion strictly related to the Lore of Overwatch.
no
well shit
if you do want to learn more about the story of overwatch you can go to the gamepedia, gives a good lore description on every hero and much more
Overwatch: "We got a talking Gorilla, a human-intelligent Hamster, sentient Robots, a guy named 'Akande' who can jump 500 feet into the air and then free-aim float himself around before crashing to the ground with meteor-force, and a guy who can store millions of shotgus under his coat while also turning into a Ghost at will."
Overwatch Fandom: "... But D.Va's kinda hard to believe tho, right?"
Just added context to the video.
It's easier to believe in advances in science than to believe that video game skills translates to military robot suit pilot
The most unbelievable thing about DVA is that her (And probably the other MEKA members) stream their fights against the gwishin which is fucking horrendous and whoever thought that was a good idea is actually terrible
^^^
@gentle token depends on the game
if it's a mech simulation game, then it would make you better at piloting a mech
That's true. They went back on her being a starcraft champion, yes?
What game was she famous for? Or games
you can see it on the screen in her room on the Busan MEKA base map
it looks like a gundam clone
it does make a lot more sense than StarCraft
although one of the other MEKA members seems to actually be a StarCraft pro
which one?
Cause D.Mon was on the same team as DVA and we know I believe Overlord was a rival to DVA and Casino was an actual Racer
So was Casino a gamer as well, or just a racer?
a racer
there isn't much about them
Casino is an F1 racer with ties to Monaco (which means possible ties to Max)
D.Mon was a former teammate of D.Va's and is kinda the team mom
King looks like an insufferable know-it-all and probably is
Overlord is the baby of the group
A reason they would have to stream the meka team is for public endorsement and funding, people would be more inclined to root and support their young protectors if they see what they're fighting. Plus it's powerful propaganda against the gwishin
Fits into the culture of creating "pop" idols
yeah
also fun fact - a StarCraft designer helped create the other MEKA members
the thing about them streaming is
Shooting Star shows that the government/program leadership misleads the population about the results of the missions
dva being “without a scratch” when we see her with a broken arm, etc etc
which would be
significantly more difficult if the missions are live-streamed
You think they pre-recorded a couple fake missions and showed the korean population these fake missions as if they're no biggie so that they don't freak and not actually live stream the actual real missions?
Or they just streamed some easy missions
that is more plausible
And didn't stream the harder or more risky ones
but at that point why bother
I think not streaming anything would be less suspicious than going “see everything’s fine now you don’t see the other ones”
Other hand is
Overlord's drones arent Drones
Theyre the cameras
And he wasn't in that mission so no stream
but he was in the one that sidelined them
and there was some bullshit about it in the news too
hm well maybe
And the injuries/decomissioned mechd are public knowledge
but like
I doubt lying about dva would be the first time
you don’t just go “hey there weren’t any cameras, let’s mislead our whole population”
I dunno
Know witnesses is optimal time to distort news
The opprotunity sets itself
but why
if you’re not already in the pattern
