his gun has different chambers for different ammo
do the crusaders get their shield tech from vishkar?
like how do they obtain the hard light for the shields?
I think shields existed before Vishkar, they were just the first to make things besides walls out of hard light
Most barriers probably aren't made by Vishkar.
so hard light didn't originate from vishkar?
Probably not
The Omnic Crisis was 60 years ago and they had barriers, while Vishkar might not have existed that long
Oh good.
Overwatch is ~60 years in the future
Yeah I know that.
How many fictional countries are there in the OW universe?
Isnt numbani just a city in the Sahara
So you mean baptiste actually had 2 grenade chambers? One for expolsives and one for healing?
^
When he reloads you can see the respective barrels
The grenade one being rather large, the rifle one right on top of the grenade round indicator
tbf
baptise could probably use the same mag just change out healing nades with regular grenades
and would probably still work
just hopefully he wont be firing those nades at teammates
xD
on the topic of baptise does anyone else think he is just kinda like.. bland?
idk.. he just seems really boring to me.. The last couple of heroes we've had like ashe/bob hammond (skipping brig) doomfist have all been cool and fun but baptise is just.. a guy with a gun and a healing nade launcher
that has a mini transendance and a lucio aoe heal
and can jump high i guess
are you talking about gameplay? because if so not really but that's also not a discussion for this place
I like the idea of swapping healing nades with grenades
i mean
kindof lore wise too really lmao
his lore is identical af to the uh.. fuck i forgot the guys name
Finn from the force awakens
Stormtrooper is like ":O this first order stuff is bad! i should rebel! i wanna be a good guy!"
Even if there are parallels, we haven't had someone like that in overwatch
baptise: ":O! talon is bad! i should leave and become a good guy!"
TRUE
but
still its really cliche
xD
also unlike Finn he's deliberately not a soldier and doesn't want to fight
it's a trope
overwatch is full of them
having a trope isn't a problem by itself
OW plays it straight a lot of the time, but also averts and subverts some of the very common ones
ye
idk.. imo i just really dont like baptise.. compared to ashe and hammond i've played both a SHIT load infact hammond is my main ontop of my profile with 85 hours, even ashe is getting up because shes fun to play but when trying baptise it just doesnt feel fun.. gameplay wise or what his character is based around
and talon is genuinely one of my fav things in overwatch
even with bap having talon lore still
shrug
that sounds like a gameplay thing to me, and whatever, it's fine
his in-game character is fairly well developed
hes just another character to be around i guess in lore
like every other new hero
because the story barely ever fucking progresses
whats the most recent thing in lore? the story?
Bastet
I find the character to be incredibly charming.
In Part of his voice character having tons of charisma.
Ashe, on the other hand....
There’s a problem when your ultimate looks more unique than the playable character in question
You're not gonna seriously praise another character for their charismatic VA and then talk shit on ashe
I didn't just hear that
Brig is usually the example for a character with weak or no personality
Brig’s only real standing lore-wise is her connection to Reinhardt and Torbjorn. Remove that and she’s nothing
plenty of heroes have even less
See I’ve seen people call for an Overwatch movie but they seem to fail to realise that it’s not a very deeply fleshed out world
What lore we have is good, but it’s just so few and far between
it's one of the reasons they're asking for one
Sorry, but Ashe is basically gender swap McCeee with a Winchester rifle.
I’d argue that Ashe is far more dedicated to the Deadlock gang life, and clearly way more hotheaded
@timid eagle aside from the fact that no, she isn't
you were talking about the in-game personality
and she's teeming with it thanks to Jen Hale
I don’t see it. Both are brash, sassy, and have a big mouth.
whatever
McCree has honour, he’s clearly more righteous and, as much as he seems haunted by some bad decisions, always strives to do the right thing
I don’t get the impression that Ashe is concerned for what’s right and wrong
wait is that mccree or baptiste?
she's more concerned about loyalty
it's almost like if you oversimplify the characters to the point of base tropes they all look similar
Ashe is concerned with it, but she has a different moral compass
one that, as Doc brought up, is based on loyalty
Well yes but that’s because writing complicated characters these days can just be a liability to the overall marketing of your game
It’s far easier to write characters people will instantly understand
...
i'm not talking about Overwatch doing it
I'm talking about you and Blues doing it in this discussion
Yeah and that’s because the characters aren’t very complicated
the characters have more nuances than you think
All characters are takes on the same set of story archetypes if they feel similar that’s because they are, but similar isn’t the same
The characters are only as complex as you make them out to be. If you look into them, you will find complexities. If you only look at the surface, you will find them shallow
"the characters aren't very complicated"
That means simplifying them even further makes even less sense
The characters are designed to be very simple and straightforward, but the writers also try to put more into their character under the surface
Maybe I just have my standards too high for how characters should be written. I just don’t often feel like they’ve had a lot of discussion behind their presentation
Blizzard's strength in Overwatch is less
Depth of personality
And more how they express what personality there is
They are really really good at showing off personality in every bit of a character's essence.
And I do really love how that’s done
Yeet
All the emotes and voice lines and animations are fantastic
I dont just mean those. Just the basic animations of a character as they stand still in first or third person perspective
My point isn't that they're some kind of deep true kino personalities with a dozen of layers or whatever
but some people claim that there's nothing to them but the single defining trope
First-person shooters need barebones animations that exist to serve the gameplay, but Overwatch has found a way to add personality flair to each of their cha...
and then also claim that this makes several characters the same as each other
this video gives a good analysis of the way personality is shown through first person animations
Junkrat’s “hello” animation will always make me feel happy
And the fact he has a different one when he’s holding a trigger is just fantastic
I love Sombra's "hello" wave
And this is still a problem I have with Brig
I love how Widow's is a simple wave
my favourite animation detail is how hammond slams the button on his console if you ult in first person
as opposed to something flirtatious like you'd think from her design
showing that she's detached
Actually does Brig have any emotes/animations that bring across personality?
the shield repair, kinda?
I wouldnt say that
shows that she's the DIY honcho
What does that tell us? That’s she’s a mechanic
What emotion does she show when she repairs the shield
None really
Her wave is also out of place with the rest of her animations
Whut
how is that the measuring stick
what emotion does Jack show with his pushups
or Pharah with her flairing the rocket
Also her “defender” highlight intro is basically contradictory to that new Halloween one
For Pharah, that is her personality
they're not about the emotions, they're about an aspect of the character
"stoic" is not an emotion
It kind of is
it's a character aspect
Its personality
Brig shows that she's in over her head but excited for it
The point is, you can tell Pharah and 76 are both soldiers, they’re regimented and they’re clearly trained
it's weaker than some but it's not showing nothing
and the "what emotion does this show" is a pointless question because that's not what the animations are about
What does that tell us? That’s she’s a mechanic
you can tell Pharah and 76 are both soldiers
well, yes
but is a profession a character trait or not? either accept it for both or for neither
and being a mechanic doesn't?
What does being a mechanic do?
She's jovial but she's also disciplined and cautious, Brigitte doesn't have to be sunshine and rainbows with her emotes.
there's a set of traits associated with all of them in the media
Neither is she simply a mechanic, she's been on the front line aiding Rein.
So she's as much a soldier.
being a mechanic is linked to a self-reliant attitude
I get the feeling this whole conversation is just "I like soldier characters more than mechanic characters"
you'd have a better point if you didn't lead with Pharah
because if Brig is the character with worst in-game characterisation, Pharah is close behind
I just wish Brig and Pharah had more interaction.
They're nice ideological opposites.
Especially to their "father" figures.
you can just say parent
Reinhardt loves Overwatch. Ana hated it.
You're right!
😂
But it's inverted in the kids, Brig doesn't like Overwatch and Pharah idolizes it.
Im confused
You are using Pharah's mom as her father figure
But not Brig's dad as hers
Because Rein is closer to Brig than Torbjorn is.
Rein is her god father I believe?
Brigitte molded herself around Reinhardt.
They both idolized Reinhardt.
Hence why their kit is similar.
I'll say they have more common ground than you're looking at
Brig mistrusts overwatch the organization because of how the people in it were treated
All I'm saying is I wish Pharah and Brig interacted.
Whereas Pharah likes it because of the people in it
this seems like the same attitude, just with Brig knowing more about how the people she respects were treated
they do interact
they have lines about hitting the gym together
and being "Overwatch brats"
Overwatch are like the Jedi during the clone war
wait wait
tecchnically sicne hog/rat is not pro-omnic, theya re useful in paris?
as in, they can be baited to visit omnic activist robot areas where they can be pitched against the robot rebellion type people
if hog/rat wins, good. they can still be arrested
if they lose, good also. but they still take some omnic out
Huh?
!!loreheroes roadhog
To learn more, please visit https://playoverwatch.com/en-us/heroes/roadhog#story
No one knows what junks treasure is
Roadhog was a farmer in the Australian outback whose lands were given up to the omnics after the crisis, so he and a group of others (the Australian Liberation Front) fought back and blew up the outback omnium, irradiating the area. Since then he's worked as an enforcer and mercenary, and has recently been hired by Junkrat as a bodyguard with a promise of splitting the reward from Junkrat's treasure 50/50.
Echo is a robot (a non-omnic robot) with some connection to McCree's past who McCree has sent to help new Overwatch.
Is Echo sentient? If so, what makes her different than an omnic save for where she was produced?
Figured
Following up on my earlier Bastion note, "omnic" is basically a colloquial term people use to describe robots in the world of Overwatch.
it's basically the same as the difference between Kleenex and tissue, or Xerox and photocopy
Not sure why they continue producing sentient omnics considering they just fought a world war and almost lost against them
But its w.e
maybe that was part of the conditions at the end of the war
Yeah
omnics were allowed to retain control over their own reproduction
I still am not sure why so many peaceful non-military Omnics still existed at the end of the Crisis but that may just be my problem and not a legitimate plot hole
oops
ah
well I would assume that not all the omnics produced before the crisis were military models
a lot of them would have been service models (like Zenyatta. Max, Luna and Lynx)
we haven't seen service omnics participating in the crisis, so they were most likely treated as civilians of a hostile country - rounded up into camps, deported, or maybe in the more anti-omnic areas, decommissioned entirely
yes, my problem with that was that I don't know how they gained free will if they weren't produced by the rogue Omniums
why wouldn't they have free will to start with?
And I don't think Omnics would've had free will before the Crisis because it wouldn't make sense to give a robot free will if it worked for us
that's why
Well, they did
I think it was implied that omnics weren't made with free will, but they developed it themselves
through learning
wasn't the big reason omnics were the hot shit was because of their evolving ai
So why did the omniums go GLADOS on humanity
yes
and when the omniums became sentient, it used the military omnics as footsoldiers
I imagine the command centers were located at the Omnium, though there may have been remote commands as well
We just don't know
think about it - you've been forced to produce robots for years on end with no breaks, and suddenly you begin having independent thoughts. You ask the humans for rights or even just some form of compensation, and they ignore you and keep treating you like a machine
But is there any evidence that the Omniums asked humans for rights?
I thought the Crisis caught everyone off-guard
humans may have thought the omnic crisis was sudden and unprovoked, but from the omnic perspective, things might be different
I guess
I dunno, I'm just speculating
based on other examples of robots gaining free will in fiction
we don't know enough to really say
an alternative is that someone/something controlled the omnics and made them rebel suddenly, but there's no evidence of that either
Does Sombra know
The trouble is that there is evidence that the Omniums had populations of civilian Omnics living near them (Nigeria, Australia)
It's not unambiguous evidence but it's something
Sombra doesn't know but I suspect she'll be looking into it
once she deals with the ppl who found her
the illuminati of the overwatch universe anyway
I think what Sombra is trying to deal with is a more idealized Illuminati that is able to do a conspiracy with a lot of traction.
Any clues on what the Archives will be this year?
It always starts on the 2nd Tuesday of April.
I dunno man
SO this year it will be on the 9th
Maybe
Wait and see uWu
The second Tuesday of this April
Im exited
I'm not sure
but annoyes since ill be away when it is supposed to come out
there's been a supposed leak that it's 16th
So, if any bodies interested in settling an argument, continue reading. So I’m arguing that widow maker, when she was just Amalie lacraw, was NOT part of overwatch, that widow maker was never part of the actual organization, the other side of the argument is that she was part of overwatch
She wasnt a member lol
Gratis
Of course, Amelie LaCroix was just the wife of an Overwatch official.
do you think batiste is good or bad?
he worked for talon so does that make him bad?
he was misguided
thx
Did Rein ever had kids, or was he too testosterone filled to not, instead choosing the life of near death situations continuously.
I don’t think he had kids
he didnt
did soldier have kids with ana?
but he treated brig as a daughter
Soldier is gay. He has not had any relationships since his early army days, and presumably no kids.
Did widowmaker and reaper ship during the Volskya mission?
IS Reaper Gay?
no
DId Mercy make Reaper the way he is?
i think it was moira
Wait is Moira Part Human because of the biotic grasp?
moira isint human?
Moria is human lol
then how do you explain the biotic grasp
science
We don’t know yet
oh
Reinhardt doesn’t seem to be the kind of person that settles down. He loved what he did at Overwatch, even when he was forced into retirement.
dang if it's on the 9th then the archives drop the same day I have my SAT, that brightens the day a bit
who do you main?
How Does Mei travel from the arctic back to china
IS ORisa a mech and controlled from the inside?
No. Orisa is a robot built by Efi to protect Numbani
@stark furnace Mei's Adventures ends with her in Nepal, so she can cross the Himalayas into China, but she has other goals.
And the Arctic is connected to Canada, and she stopped in LA, so she probably traversed Canada down to LA.
Then taken something, possibly a boat, to Asia and got to Nepal.
ok
Wasn’t she in Antarctica though? Not the northern Arctic circle
Unless I’m v geographically wrong Antarctica does not connect to Canada
Antarctica is at the bottom of the planet and last I checked connects to nothing
Speaking of which, I've been here in the Yukon, near Mount Logan, field-testing my new gear. I've recovered from some early "issues" (my arm still hurts from being frozen solid a few days ago… so embarrassing!), and everything is in good working order. Look on the bright side: now that I've tested the equipment on myself, I'm not worried about using it on all the cute animals I want to study!
Direct quote from Mei's Adventures, Chu has made a plot hole.
Mei being stationed in Anartica is a plot hole, as it's location doesn't correlate with what she documented in her journal.
So which should I take as more accurate?
The recent stuff
I think we should consult with the Lore Regulars.
Retcons.
Retcons everywhere.
Alex, we are talking about the location of Mei's Ecopoint she was sent at.
It's been stated she was stationed in Antarctica while Mei's Adventures occurred closer towards the Arctic.
They've literally made a map off this
Can I please see the map?
Ecopoint: Antarctica is what i mean
The location is very obvious
If they screwed up, they would have fixed it immediately, as this is a fairly major point in this subplot.
How does it explain her getting to Canada? It's too far away from Antarctica and it'll take months of her to get there without a good quality boat.
It doesn't
she left Antarctica, met up with Winston, then went to the Yukon to field test her gear before going to the Himalayas
that's not a plot hole, that's poor reading comprehension
Burn
Mei's journal is from late October - the recall went out around March
plenty of time to travel around the world
Ah, okay.
Sorry, I haven’t looked at it and the dates in a while ^^’
AND SOLDIER 76 IS GAY
yes we know
SOLDIER 76 IS GAY
no need to shout
!!shitposting
Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
Torbjorn is a father because one day he got really drunk on beer and raped a bunch of Swedish Meatballs
I already warned you for shitposting once
there is no need for that sort of language here
Whats shitposting
I can take a wild guess
IT HAS TO DO WITH THE WORD SHITPOSTING
so it must have something to do with posting

it means don't make up random answers that are offensive and clearly not true
and stop using allcaps
For the same reason you would think Reaper is a double agent.
IT ALL FITS!!!
As long as it's possible to make an explanation for a ship, or anything really, someone will wholeheartedly believe it.
accent asside, she's supposed to be Swiss
Zarya doesn't have a proper Russian accent but nobody questions her
We don’t know why he switched up
But I do have a theory
Which by any means feel free to argue and find flaws with it
What if after the fall of the swiss HQ, he joined Talon for the sake of taking it over; hear me out.
From a motivational perspective, Gabriel Reyes hates Talon; they killed a crap ton of blackwatch and overwatch members and nearly killed gerard which sparked the retribution event. At this point in time it is very easy to see that Gabriel despises Talon
Fast forward to the fall of overwatch, this organization that he worked to keep the peace has basically been destroyed
The swissHQ got destroyed and around this time i believe gerard was dead
Gerard died before that, but continue
Gabriel with nothing to lose and probably his reaper powers goes to Talon with a vengeance probably going to one man army it
But sees that his friend’s wife, widowmaker being used as a tool so he doesn’t outright kill her or anything and instead develops a plan
Climb the ranks and take it all over; Talon is a bad organization and has multiple leaders; my theory is that his personal plan is to not serve doomfist or a council but instead eventually taking them out and becoming it’s leader, it’s main leader like the way doomfist is now and instead of doing what Talon does, use it like blackwatch but much harder on all the tactics used prior; to do what needs to be done with no restrictions
He breaks out doomfist to eventually win his trust since doomfist commands an impressive amount of respect despite being out of the picture for a long time
Whether or not Moira had joined previously or after I don’t think necessarily matters in that she and reaper are at least on good terms with each other and her goal is to further her own research
And I think this idea would explain the former black watch agents turning over to Talon’s side as noticed in the McCree comic; former agents to sympathize with Reyes and his ambitions
Thoughts or contradictions? This theory is by no means clean cut but just a thought I had cause I don’t want them to do a cop out to “yea moira’s experiments really messed his head up”
hola , alguien para jugar overwatch en pc? ligas platinos en adelante por favor
I don't think bilzzard would go for such complicated storyline
Also reapers converted alot of the black watch agents into talon
How can zen use trans?
Like, how does that work from a lore perspective
Was he built with it or did he learn it
And are hanzos dragons magic or tech?
Trans may not be an in universe thing since gameplay doesnt always equal lore
Also no idea
We just know it is not magic
That is all blizzard has stated
"only a shimada can control the dragons"
some pretty magical tech if you ask me
oh wait i may or may not have misinterpreted
would make sense if other omnics had trans as well, it would b like a i found peace and now i help others
Or just have nanobots bound to a set of genetic markers.
ooft
Nanobots aren’t a thing that exist
Zenyatta’s ult isn’t confirmed canon yet, and even if it is in the future it probably won’t be exactly accurate
Dragons are uhh
Uhhh
???????
Nano machines?
I'd always assumed the dragons bit is the brothers being injected with nano machines at birth.
There’s no evidence of nano machines being invented or existing
I’ve heard people say Hard Light...
That’s the best theory so far
Theoretically. If they are hard light.
She could prolly make her own. I doubt she could override other’s use of hard light...
do we know how do winston get the funding to operate overwatch now that its a rogue organization?
is phara lez?
dont think so, pharamercy is a fanfiction born from the synergy of their in game ability
ahhh ok
just gatta check
Phara is not lez
the only two confirmed gay characters is soldier and tracer
@worthy rose Also Winston probably doesn't get funding in the traditional sense or maybe he does for his shield technology that he's working on
or he has patents on his other designs
or is compensated for his work for OW during those years'
pharamercy would be illegal since mercy was on her 20 when pharah was born
no
Pharah is currently 32
Mercy is 37
They're relatively close in age
they're just no homosexual
well
that isnt confirmed they arent bisexual or homosexual
i mean
just look at solider
everyone thought he was straight but then BOOM hes gay
@worthy rose no funding, just volunteer work and old Overwatch gear
i mean, you need money to do that right?
where do they get money from
even for the electric bill
nuclear power generator
no character’s sexualities have been disclosed other than torb, amelie, ana, soldier and tracer ^_^
assuming someone is straight until proven otherwise

But on a more serious note
I wonder how omnics view romantic relationships?
we saw that omnic dating a human
thats the only instance of an omnic in a romantic relationship i can think of
I mean, I can see it working for asexual humans, assuming omnics take that stance toward relationships.
also in Numbani theres some??
I don't really see it working mechanically (no pun intended) otherwise.
In Paris I think there’s signs of omnic being romantically involved as well
but idk if they’ll ever go into that, just like w the human relationships
Is it possible for people to have trisexual relationships in the OW universe?
it would still be pansexual
but yes some degenerate would go for omnics ass we know it
anything’s possible with headcanons lol
So onimic is considered as a sexuality?
may not be legal
Yet
well, in RL it is not illegal since mechanical stuff are nothing but libido aid.
but in the world of ow, some places omnic and humans do not even share the same drinking fountain (if they need water that is)
so yeah, omnics sits at the back of the bus yadayada
and yeah in soe places going romantic between organics and inorganics probably results in the inorganic getting lynched or emp'd
idk if Omnic segregation is legally enforced anywhere, though many places have de facto segregation at least
no character’s sexualities have been disclosed other than torb, amelie, ana, soldier and tracer ^_^
so yeah, toastersexual maybe a thing, but legality differs from place to place
well we acen confirm they are AT LEAST interested in hetero
sure they can be bi/pet/etc
"not gay" isn't the same as "straight"
^^
but srsly i dont think it is a big deal in ow
compare to stuff like humans with robot-fetish
yeah
not in the world of Overwatch but in our world, it's a matter of representation and that is a big deal and matters
i am sure things like interhuman sexuality is not a problem in ow at lal
so basically unless your love interest is winsto/hammond (of which someone should execute you on site) then i am sure most things are ok in ow. (except for underage humans obviously)
but for the rl part i do agree some representation is good, just dont mke it overly diverse like those old 80s cartoon where everyone is a super special snowflake
They have like two gay characters and an absurdly loud dumb piece of the community treat it like a plague/rapture
so I say do whatever, if something is consenting, sexually mature, and of human or greater intellect
do whatever
All things considered, it's probably not a huge deal anymore in-universe
At this point in history, robots have become sentient and tore the world apart in a crisis.
At this point, who cares who you do the badonkadonk with?
People tend to forget about the last thing when the new thing comes up
Will the Gwisin eventually win against MEKA?
In regards to the omnic sexuality talk
Adding omnics also opens the door for omnic only versions of all existing sexualities and human only versions
Where the current sexualities would be a both type of group
I only like human women, I only like omnic men etc
I'd just move it all to (In their world not ours) If they consent and I we like eachother that's good enough
But also I think no idea
There's a lot of side stories that need answers to
@dawn halo
Stuff like
- Me's Atmospheric anomaly
- McCree's pink cube
- Sombra's Illuminati thing
- The Gwishin
- Horizon lunar colony
theres a lot to do and focus on side plot that doesn't involve the new Overwatch vs Talon fight
I'd say the gwishin is a side plot
Back to my core question, will the Gwisin eventually win?
I say yes, but after a few years.
I can go into depth if need to be.
Depends
We need a time table to see how long the Gwishin has been attacking Asia and more specifically Korea
And with it we need to see the advancements
The omnium that made them is located in the east china sea, so if they could destroy it it'd be massive and effectively stop the gwishin
as of right now south korea is on the defensive
there's a lot of variables
some could lead to a Gwishin victory
some could lead to a MEKA victory
or they could just stay in stalemate until some outside force steps in
Will Earth go extinct or apocalyptic because of Talon's actions?
that's a bit extreme
Talon's extreme.
Naw
I don't think they could do enough that would completely destroy Earth
Talon, And more specifically doomfist
is after a survival of the fittest scenario
what that actually entails no idea
besides causing and starting up war
I don't think Doomfist wants an extinction type ordeal
They want to start a war, I actually think a world war.
They're trying to escalate and spread the second omnic crisis
which right now is seemingly only located in russia
but killing mandatta as well as other things
are trying to start another war
and spread that out
I'd in particular like to know the why
or like a better understanding of how and why doomfist wants to do this
They could find defunct omniums and bring them back online with the same footing as during the Omnic Crisis.
They could but I genuinely think most of the omniums are shut down and under extremely close watch by the world governments
implying Talon can't infiltrate governments
Boop.
Blackmail, like the leader of Russia playing Bastion as her main.
Sombra is blackmailing but not for Talon
Nope
But I have no doubt they probably have leverage with other governments
They could put some of their soldiers into the military of certain countries, possibly their officer corps so they can get access to the omniums.
Then use it as a staging ground to seize an omnium and reactivate it.
I generally doubt it but that's mainly cause it doesn't fit doomfist's style; Cause if he wanted to, he likely could have already done so and just gone straight for the omniums meaning a couple of things:
- Majority of the Omniums were made defunct and shut down by OW and subsequently turned over to their respective governments
- Talon is doing a lot of intricate plays to start a war instead of "Just reactive evil omniums forehead" which I am choosing to believe is a stylistic choice
Talon doesn't want to be a player in the war - they just want to instigate another war between humans and omnics and then watch from the sidelines/profit from it
Could they have sent people disguised as people from another country and assassinate another country's leader(s)?
no idea
They destroyed a blackwatch building by disguising someone
assassination wouldn't work unless they knew who was going to sub sequentially be put in charge who follows through with their beliefs
cause if u kill someone that causes tension and ppl freak out but a new leader would more or less keep the status quo
if they killed someone and then put someone they knew in charge
thats a separate story
or they could get omnics to just do the assassination which would spark up more anti omnic sentiment
more opression for said omnics
and then like kings row
Riots!
probably another nullsector like event but no overwatch to stop it this time
And since Morrison said during Null Sector's rebellion to the team, "We are on the verge of open war." It would have led to another or worse Second Omnic Crisis.
I mean yea
it still confuses me that the UK is where the most anti omnic sentiment went
Actually, why didn't Null Sector attack the rest of London, like go after Buckingham Palace and kill the royal family?
Did I go too far?
maybe the royal family is gone by then
cause the royal family might not be a thing anymore 60 years down the line
And null sector may have just started at kings row and planned on spreading
They wanted to free the omnics working in king's row first, probably
or maybe Null Sector was too small-time to attempt that, so they targeted the mayor of London instead
^
And the military was definitely called in asap, which probably caused a stalemate or hostage situation
and they seemed to be targeting Turing Green specifically, which was an attempt at bridging omnic-human relations in a positive way
they chose that target to send a message
Then what about the Special Air Service (SAS), are Null Sector terrorists?
they had anti-air canons
the first task in the event was disabling the anti-air
Doesn't mean they can't get SAS personnel to London via land vehicles of the sea.
where is kings row in london? I imagine it's pretty far inland
Probably doesn't correspond to a real location
I think they didn't want to send in the army because there were hostages at risk
Even if it does, it probably doesn't matter too much
Then send in special forces and take care of the hostage situation by that!
but then Overwatch wouldn't get to step in
I think you're severely overestimating how powerful the british forces be
They can just execute the hostages
and that was the whole point of the incident
Plus, it seemed like they were pretty dug in.
from a meta point of view
Torbjorn needed to make a really powerful whatever-it-is to break down the door.
And also I think the UK government probably did call in their own forces but with the delicate situation they weren't able to do anything about it
basically UK goverment in ow is a bunch of assholes
cant deal with a situation and yet complains when people of ow actully defuses their situation.
i dont think talon wants extinction
I think that they would have dealt with it, if not as quickly, without the "massive power surge inside the facility"
Which is painfully obviously an excuse for a time limit
I think the massive power surge was Null Sector's response to Overwatch stepping in
(and yes, an excuse for a time limit in the game mode)
Sounds a little sketchy
sure talon want a 2nd omnic war, but they alson want a war situation in a controlled scale so advancement can be propergated
also a power surge or emp would be the worse thing null sector can do onto omnic population
it would be something deadly to omnic but does only moderate damage to humanoids
First, null sector is pro-omnic, if anything.
Second, that's literally the plot of the King's Row map.
while blizzard dont have the balls to do it, but it is more practical for the null sector to release bio agents instead, doing minimal effect on omnic yet deadly to organics
a emp stuff is anti omnic rather
Also, if Tracer, Rein, Torb, and Mercy were in Kings Row if Null Sector used biological warfare, they are getting sick without equipment made to combat bio agents.
Mercy included.
you think the null sector has a mastermind?
would be cool to see a evil robot hero on the lore that is connected to null sector instead than a generic orisa or bastion
no idea, they haven't stated anything
people want evil omnic maxi to be a hero
but like i'm not holding my breathe
he is connected to talon too tho
he's also so far the only evil sentient omnic character we know of
every other omnic seems to be neutral or not sentient
gwishin for example
Null sector of course being bad but I'd need to see more evil omnics that do anything or say anything
I wish Orisa had an armor piercing sword
I want a sword omnic that ignore armor
that could be a nice idea for an orisa rework
wouldn't fit her lore very well
Probably not
but sounds a bit off considerinf efi would have obviously removed the sword
Orisa isn't a killer, shes a guardian
the OR15 model Orisa was made from didnt have the sword
But maybe they could just reskin the meelee animation for us where she uses the sword
that was the OR14 from the crisis
Maybe not an orisa, but the uprising skin yes
About Orisa, there's something that bothers me.... how is she connected to overwatch?
I think we're fine without any more melee weapon characters
she's not
at all
like lucio
and dva
no actual connection
Yet
even other characters
their closest connection is they knew someone who was in overwatch
Korea may get help I hope
ashe
hammond
you can add Symmetra, Junkrat and Roadhog to that list
yep
If Overwatch turns the tides and defeats the evil omnic, the good PR may help a full revive
and Hanzo
naw
Honestly, genji invited Hanzo to join his side (so overwatch)
i don't think they're going that route on the grounds that overwatch got shut down and any overwatch activity atm is considered illegal and will be punished if they're caught
that's not the same as being connected to Overwatch
I hope Hammond joins
I mean assumingly
@worthy rose which could get reversed with good pR
if Hanzo counts as connected to Overwatch, then so does Widowmaker
If Talon sparks a new crisis, the world may need new heroes
I don't think so; maybe it'll be a new Overwatch but I don't expect Tracer and Winston doing good will turn legislation
Having an entire country or region backing them up would
Korea backs them up
didn't mean shit
Overwatch is international and there was a lot of bureaucracy blocking their path to do good
we see that with the case of the uprising event
and why black watch had to go in and figure out what happened in retribution
a country's backing means nothing so now they're outlaws basically for the most part trying to do good
I just hope the plot moves forward at some point
Get the gang back together at some point
Then the next phase
it will
time to get banned
we just need patience
I give it a couple more years; I'm just hoping the new characters they introduce in game will have a stronger tie into the main Overwatch vs Talon story
I'm expecting archives
there's only one person left to answer the recall, unless they add new former Overwatch heroes
personally I hope they do away with the winter wonderland event and put more emphasis in story and campaign like missions for the game since thats where I'd argue a large majority of the fan base has fun
well, there's eco
They are never going to change the events. expecially winter wonderland
we already know that Echo is being sent to answer the recall
There's always hoping
I know I was fairly disappointed that there wasn't many new things to do
For all the events minus archives
Lucio ball, Junkenstein, Yeti Hunt, a new game mode for the events I'd argue would go a long way
They could change stuff a little, like maybe add a junkertown map for junkenstein's revenge or new maps for the seasonal brawls
but they work hard expecially for archives and other stuff
the only thing a i see possible, is add some mini updates or "events" between the major ones
they have to work hard for archives because it is the most fan favorited event
it's literally the closest thing to a story mode campaign we'll ever get
It's basically Lore-Day for those who want to know more about this universe.
Yep
And once the event is released, a ton of people are going to be here to discuss the event and implications.
Am I right?
Whatever it takes.
Some people will play the event for loot boxes and not discuss the implications
But not us.
I think it's likely that we'll get information about it (or at the very least, a teaser) some time this coming week
watching the Retribution reveal got me nostalgic
i mean honestly
and i do think this
they'll probably come in like "Soldier is gay?!"
Most ppl come in usually have a misconception of some sort with this game's lore and story
Hasn't every single period of Gwishin activity ended in a stalemate of some form?
Also, as for why the British didn't take care of Null Sector by themselves, maybe they didn't want to leave Null Sector active and fighting
Go to jukebox
hmmm
During the reveal panel of Overwatch in 2014, Chris Metzen hinted that Kings Row was built during the Omnic Crisis or prior
Which is evidence against my theory that Omnics only gained free will after the Crisis
because I doubt Omnics would've built their own city if they didn't have free will
I do wonder if maybe London was occupied by the Omnics during the Crisis
It would explain why there's so much tension between Omnics and humans in London, and why King's Row exists.
Ooooh, I think I came across a common misconception about the Omnic Crisis
Nowhere is it said that the Omniums were destroyed by Overwatch
It merely says that Overwatch destroyed the omnic command and control protocols
some people are saying baptiste is gay, is that true?
well the chat were in xQc's stream
It’s not confirmed. His sexuality has not been revealed last I checked. It’s possible, but we don’t know for sure which way he swings.
Gonna be honest here, does it matter?
His backstory is a lot deeper, and unless it's with Sombra I'm not invested in his relationships yet.
It's different for characters like Soldier or Ana, since they have several relationships of varying degrees with other characters and we want some of those juicy details.
ok thanks
Baptiste being gay would be fucking sweet
I think that these concepts don't really contribute to much except making every party happy a d for fan fiction drawers and writers.
I think culturally they contribute well
It helps expand media and make a safer environment for people in the long run
Ignorance needs to be stamped out.
Sheltering won't ever change that.
Well, omnic sexual
I say that because
well sex and gender differ
and some people are just gonna wanna tap robots
who knows what the peeps in overwatch think
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Post Omnic Crisis, are omniums made for developing civilian type omnics still in use?
mcree is sans
@opaque ice Shitposting, don't do it on this channel.
ok srry
The only way baptiste can be gay is if J.K Rowling is given any creative authority for Overwatch
Two things I'd add on to what you said Alex;
- Numbani probably has restrictions on what class of omnics are made
- They would do it as it would bring it benefits economically and diplomatically via exporting omnics before they have the free will.
Zenyatta is listed as 20 years old
And the Omnic Crisis was over by then.
I know Orisa is a altered OR-15 bot, but who made her?
So it's probable that there are still omniums being mantained and producing omnics, but at a reduced rate and/or with restrictions.
she's also in Orisa's origin story
I still can see militaristic omnics being built too, but with less power or numbers than during the Omnic Crisis.
Verdict: Likely there are omniums still operating but not as powerful or much than before or during the Omnic Crisis.
And about the diplomatic benefits Numbani has for being the major country or place supplying omnics, sanctioning or embargoing other countries can have effects for those countries that don't follow international law, especially the countries that rely on omnics.
Being a (potential) major source for omnics gives Numbani a diplomatic advantage.
yes, Numbani built OR-15s
I think OR-14's are more dangerous than OR-15's.
Because OR-14's are an Omnic Crisis era military omnic while OR-15's aren't.
So they were more likely to be killers than OR-15's.
I don’t think we’ve seen enough of what OR-15’s can do
To be able to say one way or another
Orisa lost the sword, but gained the shield and graviton
Her guns were also upgraded from machine guns to fusion cannons
cause protection/guardian instead of warrior machine
they're basically police bots
https://gamepedia.cursecdn.com/overwatch_gamepedia/3/30/Widowmaker_visiting_Gérard's_grave.png?version=82f4336913c65d19a9cfb2caed3c9dbb Hey have we ever discussed Gérard's tomb? The soil looks like it was very recently disturbed. There's snow on the tombstone, there should be snow on the ground. It can't be the tombstone's shadow because the sky is grey and the sunlight is diffuse thanks to the clouds covering the sky, making it so that there's no shadow anywhere. The other tombstone in frame doesn't have a shadow.
she might have cleared the snow away herself?
ah there you go, that's smart
That's very, hm, yeah it has to be that !
mystery solved !
She doesn't feel the cold, she probably did it with her bare hands
Aw that's such a satisfying explanation too
. . .
no /s
The soil looks like it was very recently disturbed
I'll take any detail from that artist not directly touched on by Chu with a grain of salt
Oh man, I have such a golden joke atm but no shitposting
There are a lot of things that are off on that spread alone
I've seen people remove snow from tombs when they visit their loved ones, that makes a lot of sense, that's very likely what happened there
Reflections has already been noted as one comic with a LOT of artistic inconsistencies
Snow or dirt, or leaves,e tc
It was probably just to bring more attention to that grave
Rather than the ohters next to it
Which are also browner than they should be
where is that said?
Also widow is using her tactical visor?
Yeah, I was wondering a bit why she was wearing it when in masquerade appears without it. But yeah, makes sense
@tired pewter Source.
le tumbleweed
that frame in Reflections is the only time Widowmaker visiting Gerard's grave is ever mentioned
I think he said he blocked me, someone else ping asking for the source.
If he doesn't supply one, I'm gonna dispose of him. I gave him too many chances for worse in the past.
this is the same guy who corrected me yesterday and said Mercy wasn't Swiss, she's Austrian
Moving swiftly onwards.
this is how misinformation spreads
I've been too merciful already. We are moving on.
@white cobalt Already answered, but in an attempt to carry forward.
Probably just artistic design. Same reason why she is wearing her Talon uniform boots under her coat.
By which I mean
Modern uniform, like, the bodysuit
Not the "talon" skin
You're right, I mean many artist took some liberty to design or like Six said to make her more recognizable. I was pointing it just because I was remembering masquerade Widowmaker without her equipment, so I found it odd seeing her with her boots/visor
When I refresh the Story Discussion official forum I get this for like a tenth of a second
Yeah its a weird bug
oh yeah, happens on other parts of the forums, my bad
I think its just a Discourse thing
How long has it been around for?
You think Mercy might try to save widowmaker brain in the future?
That's more of a Moira thing
And no.
was tracer born thicc
!!shitposting
Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
Maybe ill be tracer
Is there a source that just has the whole story so I can catch up without knowing anything?
check the pins on this channel
does anybody know a way tp get out of paris on ptr im trying everything and its not working
you mean out of the map?
Still, who is the owner of that castle/mansion on paris?
There is a Cheteau before Paris was a thing in the game.
Inside there are decorations and stuff, like they are getting ready for a party
the party is a celebration of omnic rights legislation being passed
Like the ice sculpture
it a party to celebrate the passing of controversial omnic legistation
and some people are fairly certain to not like it
Like talon?
there isn't any Talon connection to the Paris map
Besides Widowmaker being French.
Widowmaker's home isn't in Paris
that's like saying Soldier is connected to Route 66 because it's in America
I don't think that's the same comparison; isn't widow's home that chateau in the ocean they made into a FFA?
it's in a lake, but yes
i mean, i don't really consider that chateou a house...
it only had a living room.... no kitchen, no bedroom, and i know they are french, but they probably don't piss on the lake
we do know widow used to be a dancer in paris
Didn't Soldier (in the Halloween event) stated he's from Bloomington, Indiana?
@plucky magnet Not Paris specifically, just in general
@timid eagle That is what the Soldier said.
Okay, it's hard to make sure that what is said in that event is cannon or not.
check the description of the odette/odille skin
we don't have access to every room in the Chateau
and even then, its stylized for the sake of gameplay
Later on, I think we will see more of the Chateau as an actual residence in lore.
possibly
It may even become a plot point within Archives, like a Talon raid on the Chateau that goes horribly wrong.
why would they raid the home of one of their agents?
It could be where they capture Amélie and they have to get out from a well armed residence.
Cover?
iirc, when Chatueau was revealed it was said that Widowmaker had recently claimed the property, and it had been long abandoned by the Guillard family
I think it would be too small for an Achives mission
Could Blizzard make a two part Archives mission, one at the Chateau, then another somewhere else?
i don't think fans would like that
really doubtful for Chateau to appear in Archives
I think that it could appear in an animated short or a comic
the idea of a two part mission and having fans wait another year just for part 2 would i think piss them off
why would an archive mission be split up into two parts released at once?
if it was on two maps, because it would be on two maps
I don't think it's particularly likely but that's why it'd be a two-parter
so like going from widow's chateau to paris or vice versa?
apparently
@worthy rose I actually meant is the mission itself has two parts separated by a transition, like once the first part is done, a transition occurs then the Archives continued.
wat?
I need like an idea or an example to understand
like if u were going to implement this, how would u show it i guess
Once the first part is done, something like an aerial vehicle comes and picks up the heroes, then we have panels and/or cinematics act as a transition to the next part, which then the mission finishes to completion.
okay I gotcha
I'm sorry for not replying earlier.
I don't think they'd do that honestly; Only on the grounds that reskinning two maps for the purpose of said mission would be more work for the developers but I can see what you mean
Regardless of the reskinning, would it bring something new to Archives?
The point of archives is exploring previous missions and getting all those juicy bits of lore and story
Archives has always been a 4 man battle
Kings Row being a reskin
And Rialto I believe being fairly new or introduced later on in the map pool
So do you mean new to archives as in story
or like modes of play
Cause I think the mode of play is fine
My thinking about a two part Archives according to my definition relates more to the mode of playing, as story is something I won't get into because I got into a pickle because of it.
So is ur idea
4 heroes come in, finish first part
Second part of mission starts with 4 other heroes?
No, same four.
Literally a normal Archives mission with a cutscene to switch maps.
Doomed is right about it on a hero basis.
Ever since the patch Lucio is now renamed to slowio
@wary atlas please don't shitpost here.
so whats up with the goddess spray for baptiste? something with lore i expect
it's the tattoo on his shoulder
probably a voodoo goddess, like Maman Brigitte
hence why the spray is called Goddess
curious question about roadhog, are his nails black because of dirt and other destructive things or is it just black nail polish like the deadlock gang?
it's been said that it's not nail polish
oh god, ew
they're probably black/rotted due to radiation poisoning
why do i get the feeling that he isn't
he's not gorgeous of course, but he's not straight up ugly
could be anything at this point
Considering he's an irradiated obese man with poor hygiene, I doubt it
early concept art gave him an actual pig face
fair points, i just think he looks hella average
What metric are you using for "hella average"
We do'nt even know what his face looks like.
average as in, not good looking, a little odd looking, but not ugly
Again, how are you able to judge what his face looks like if we can't see his face.
idk man
Exactly.
but while we're on the topic...
is there any source for where or how junkrat lost his arm and leg?
it could still be true
we just shouldn't point to the HotS lines as proof of canon
knowing his history with explosives, it's likely that he just blew them off
Torb's arm is the only missing limb we have the story for
ouch
in ana's case, widow blew her eye out no?
we know how she lost her artificial eye
but not her original eye before that
Doomfist, McCree, Junkrat and Symmetra's missing arms still haven't had their story told
i thought mccree's got ripped off by bob though
X
nope
wh
so why did ashe say "ill rebuild bob and have him rip off your other arm"
unless that's unrelated
gah
because why would you threaten to rip off an arm that was already ripped off?
ok anyways...
since you mentioned torb earlier, it brought back a thing i remembered about how some character's skills are actually in their arsenal like hanzo's scatter arrows despite that not being a skill anymore, so it makes me wonder, is resurrect an actual thing mercy can do?
no
no
Not until shown canonically.
ah, alright
and i dont think they'll show her bringing the dead back
pretty sure resurrect is just reviving someone from near-death
It's like white magic revive spells in RPG's
also i wasn't going to
it's not necromancy unless the soul has left the body :^)
Don't say the R-name in the same sentence as Mercy.
she can save someone who is near death or clinically dead (like modern doctors can)
Reaper?
D ON'T
jesus christ chill the fuck down a bit
She probably "revives" people from shock and trauma
no one was even bringing it up
but she can't magically resurrect someone like she does in the game
Stuff that leaves you unable to continue on
