I don’t like the new hanzo skin
yes all dyansty warrior
i wish reaper have a small helbard on his back though
or maybe have a taunt or intro riding on a red bunny
I mean the red bunny can be used for the red face god also :3
Eh? Id consider it a pog
I mean we kinda knew that since we got reaper?
It's only about which character they would choose
My fave dva skin
But in Chinese Year there was a theme
First one was Year Of The Rooster right? Journey to the West
Traditional Clothing?
To celebrate the event?
It wasn't a total Wukong event
And last year wasn't a total four gods event
Also there was no central Dragon
Wujing, Bajie, Wukong, Sanzang were the ones themed only, yep
Mei/Dva were the exception
and year of the dog had: Baihu, Zhuque, Qinlong, Xuanwu and 2 exceptions
Or even just 1 and Wukong
That's not enough to derive a pattern
Having just Lu Bu isnt enough to derive a pattern
2 makes Dynasty Warriors the dominant possibility
And theme overall
Yes
Before Hanzo was
Lu Bu
And Korean instruments
And themed Busan
We had just 1 skin to based the theory on
Now its 2, so its what is happening
Its like... What if Sugar Plum was the first skin they announced
People would predict the theme was Nutcracker
But that ended up being the only skin related to it
Sugar Plum wasn't the first skin announced and I still thought they'd do more Nutcracker skins
kinda disappointed they didn't tbh
Rat King Junkrat, Drosselmeier Reinhardt, Clara Widowmaker
Its a good theme, but I wish they would expand past just China.
Especially with Busan, could have gone to Korea this year
But Chinese is/was a specific theme unlike the other events, there are some skins not related i concede that, but their themes where: Journey to the west, Chinese mythology and now Romance of the Three Kingdoms
I kinda want them to do a zodiac animals theme for something, maybe emotes or victory poses
or at the very least sprays
there's too many to do skins
I hope next year expand to another asian country
they did 11 legendaries for Anniversary the first year and that did not go well
Japan or Thailand
Why not?
Japan doesn't really do Lunar New Year as much
Because this year is already
Historical figures
Specifically martial figures
Like, let's make a skin for Japanese Lu Bu Akechi Mitsuhide
Tomoe Gozen for Ashe?
Nobunaga for Genji?
Ogundime Nobunaga
Forgot how to spell his name
Both even rose to power similarily
that would be an interesting fit
The only problem is, Nobunaga was known for welcoming the use of guns
Which would be cool on someone like Ashe
The looked like long flintlock rifles
Or Uesugi Kenshin has lots of possibilities to be a female. He was speculated to be a female masquerading as a man.
There's 4 skins right there.
I think it's still a possibility
Nobunaga, Rifle Ashe, Kenshin, and I shouldn't need to explain Hattori Hanzo.
this year isn't just "historical figures", it seems to be specifically Romance of the Three Kingdoms
which is a specific story
Yup
But unlike Wukong
Or the 4 directions
The romance was historical fiction
With a real cast
Rather than gods and symbols like Journey to the West.
Do you think that religion is accepted in Overwatch?
@fringe blade Elaborate
Like, do you think that you can be religious/can you practice it on duty?
I know some world armies don't allow religions/dont allow to practice them
I don't know if any characters are really religious, maybe except for Genji/Zen
I mean sure but I think it's more of an accuracy of the times. Religion in today's day an age has been slowly on the decline and it's expected that religion will play an even lesser part in society in the future. If OW takes place a good amount of decades where we are basically old af. I'd believe religion while not having died out is nowhere near as relevant as it is today or even the past
That's very true
But how far in the future can it really be
The Christian religion has what, like 2 billion-ish followers?
Unless something major happened, I find it hard to believe that out of the 30 heroes in game, and many more not in the game, no one is christian
Here is a full list of religion in Overwatch:
- Soldier 76 is Catholic
- Junkrat is religious
- There is a cathedral on King's Row (Christian)
- Shambali Order exists and is a core part of Omnic faith.
iirc, junkrat says something about 'wanting to be an atheist' when on Nepal?
Wanting to be, yes.
Thanks
lemme double chekc
3/29 heroes are explicitly religious
People speculate Torb is too thanks to the whole godfather thing, but
In order for a whole omnic society and religion to build up, there had to be quite a scientific revolution happen
I think 60 years is a reasonable amount of time for most or a lot of religion to have decreased substantially
That's true
Honestly
I feel like Overwatch devs didn't dive into the whole religion thing just to make sure not to offend anyone
Tbh if there are still hardcore religious people in 200 years id be shocked
That too probably
Imagine if you make a Christian Hero
There will always be someone out there
Who says, "Wtf, thats not what Christians are like at all"
I mean spiderman is christian but ppl dont go super into that
I assume torb is passively Christian since he celebrated christmas but christmas tbh for me has evolved from a religious thing into a cultural thing
I feel like the devs took an interesting step when they told about the '76 is gay' thing
They are starting to dive into the controversy
Naw
Blizzard just needs something really controversial in order to get the media's attention, since, tbh, the hype around overwatch has died down
Not that the game's dying, but still
I think the devs admitted early on that two characters were hard gay but wouldn’t say who the second one was until recently. They hard confirmed for Tracer. I think it’s just for representation and treating lgbt as it should be treated. With indifference just like everything else. And not making it a spectacle. The fact that ppl still treat lgbt as a spectacle and are shocked or appalled by it is dumb and severely outdated if u ask me
I agree with you
However, since LGBTQ+ is still treated that way, I don't believe personally that their intentions were just to give the LGBTQ+ community representation
Ppl had an easier time accepting a genetically modified hamster that rolls in a mech and probably killed people than a good upstanding man having an exboyfriend
Ppl be dumb. I get what you are saying tho but I don’t think chu or the other writers would exploit Lgbt representation like that.
I know
The writers did it for the good reasons, for sure
However, Blizzard also has a marketing department
and they need to make money somehow, right
and to get money, you need attention from media
I mean ehhh if they wanted attention there were other ways to market the game
Again meh
I personally think they were doing fine with the whole esports OWL thing
So for a marketing team to go “you know how we’ll get lots of attention and buyers? Let’s say Soldier is gay; Chu can u do that?”
Also keep in mind there was nothing in the marketing for the short story that alluded to Soldier’s sexuality and was instead just marketed as a straight up Ana story
People’s reaction to it is probably expected but I’m fairly sure theyre not trying to bank hard on said controversy
Tbh if there are still hardcore religious people in 200 years id be shocked
That is a very controversial comment, and also very unlikely.
Religion has been a major component of the world for millenia, and a significant (read, >90%) part of the world identifies as religious
The devs have been avoiding it because its not something worth writing about
It is a nice small detail to add here or there
For example, Jack and Gabriel have their dogtags written as complete opposites
Right down to blood type
And that's why we have their faith
People were shown how they spent Christmas, which is how we know Tracer's orientation (one of the few who weren't lonely)
They won't write a comic to say someone is XYZ religion. If anything, it'll just be shown in passing like the rest.
So what.
Are the people celebrating it no longer Christian because they like Santa Claus? Are Buddhists or Jews no longer able to enjoy the commercial holiday with their friends and loved ones?
That's not what I meant.
Theres no need to make references to real world religion
I meant that only because someone celebrates Christmas, doesn't make them religious.
Yea but that was before humanity had explanations for a good chunk of things. I’m not anti-religious or anything just the information I’ve been told is that religion is becoming less and less important and or influenced by religion. It would shock me to see religion gaining a resurgence in the year 2220 just based in current trends and my own observations (assuming we havent nuked eachother to death)
So what
@worthy rose Science + Religion != Contradiction. A significant number of scientific advancements were made by religious people. Religious debates are best not kept on this server, however.
Especially here.
If you want to talk religion
Tie it back to lore
I dont know why, but I thought that Mercy was religous
Look I’m not trying to start arguments here about religion. You are free to believe as you do. It just seems that you are defending it to such a severe degree that it seems as if you are taking offense to it. He wanted to know religion portrayals in the game and I was just putting a potential reason why as well as some evidence in the world as to why that might be. And the talk about how Christmas being felt as if it is a cultural thing instead of a religious thing, I genuinely think is a fair thing to talk about when rebutting. Again not trying to anger you or anything
Is it because of the angel motif
Not really, she just always gave me 'religious vibes'
I'm not angered or care
I just want to keep controversial shit off this server.
I've already had to play janitor for the LGBT disaster.
What do you think the next Archives gonna be about
If there is no new story event, we riot
Its confirmed that Jeff is excited for it
My top expectations are either Cairo, or a Talon operation against Overwatch.
I’d like archives to be a year round thing but c’est la vie.
How long until we get hints about the new hero
Typically late February
Is the twitter teasers
But hints can start as early as Blizzcon, in a subtle manner
Such as the quadraped Omnic (later revealed to be an OR15) tied to Numbani in Sombra Origins and the sudden growing presence of Numbani's relevance
Or Brigitte literally being in Honour and Glory
My expectation has been, and was made stronger by Bastet, to be Hamid Faisal
@fringe blade By what
Just the least exciting
Do you mean, which is more boring Uprising/Retribution
Or which theory I think is most boring
I liked Retribution more, but that's because it felt that it meant more to the characters and story as a whole beyond, it's Tracer's first mission against some terrorists that will never be mentioned again
Oh
Retribution showed a huge part of the downfall of Overwatch while Uprising didn't really have any importance
Has Tracer ever won a 1v1 fight
I like tracer as a character but besides learning where her catch phrase comes from I wasn’t too enthralled by the mission
I mean, I liked Retribution for the story and like the Uprsing for the gameplay
In terms of what we were shown in comics and shorts...
Retribution just had so much more goodies
She won 2v2 in the Exhibit cinematic trailer, she was defeated by Widowmaker in Alive, and she was defeated by Doomfist in his anime (but her team won overall)
She won 0/1 1v1 fights
Tracer carried by her team, huh
And won 2/2 group fights, with one ending in her personal defeat
Which one was that?
She would have won against Widow if she didn’t stop to question her motives
This isn't really a lore question, but i was always curious, why isn't tac visor hackable? I know this is more of a general question, but I was curious. Sombra can hack into anything that requires electricity/connection, so why can she prevent 76 from running but not from aimbotting
Gameplay != Lore
Same reason why you can hack Soldier's legs and can't hack Bastion's existence.
I guess, yea
Can she erase memories and such like programming of omnics?
Not that we have seen
if Sombra's hack worked in the game like it does in the lore, it would be a very OP ability
I mean, it has to be quite intense AI
it would completely disable Bastion, Orisa and Zenyatta (like it already does on Bob)
if a robot gained sapience, they might question existence
Isn't that what an omnic is though?
How could humanity progress so much in 60~ years
existential questioning is one of the defining traits of sapience
I mean, we're pretty close to having functioning AI right now
but imagine trying to get people to talk to ai
work with them
many people are scared of robots
of ai in general
I can't even get people to use the self-serve kiosks at work
I think it will take some time
That’s why there are robophobic people in the OW universe
the omnic crisis happens 30 years from present day - technology progresses a lot in 30 years
30 years ago, nobody had cell phones or home computers
i mean, i guess that's true
and you don't really have a choice when technology progresses that fast
people who don't have computers or refuse to use social media today are seen as old-fashioned
you either adapt to it or get left behind
So, just to outline all the events that occured
In 30 years, humanity was able to create fully functioning and self-learning ai, convince people to live with them, encorperate the ai into daily lives, create a group of people who were extremely against the omnics (so much so that they were ready to kill to prove their cause, which doesn't really happen anywhere in the world, except for terrorism), create a group of soldiers, train them, and get them to protect the world
That seems like quite the leap
You know what would have been interesting?
we already have AI programs that are near enough to human that people can't tell them apart
the real hurdle is building the robot bodies
The hardest part
Is not to get something to sound like human
But to get it to learn from itself
@fringe blade In 70 years, humans invented the plane and then landed on the moon
the ones we have now are very unstable - getting them to balance bipedally is difficult
The internet is 30 years old
I feel like omnics aren't just bots, per say, they are like humans who are made of steel
They can make decisions
they can solve problems
Yes, and
modern robots can make decisions
Humans are the only species on this planet who are able to solve multi-step problems
except for some birds
hell, modern cars can decide to brake for you if it senses something in the road
What about cuttlefish
What about ants
What about beavers
What about lions
any animal that builds homes or has to hunt can think ahead
animals can set up ambushes - that requires thinking ahead
You want an AI that makes decisions and solves problems
Enjoy: https://en.akinator.com/
animals that build homes will prepare spaces for food storage or new offspring before they have any to fill that space
that's planning ahead
I phrased myself incorrectly - What I mean is, humans are one of the only species that know what consequences certain actions will hold
(Sorry, English isnt my first language, its hard for me to explain)
quantifying intelligence is difficult because there are many types of intelligence
true, not many animals know cause and effect
but more than you think
any animal that can be trained understands basic cause and effect
I also don't think that many animals can think abstractly (same with robots)
humans are one of the only species that know what consequences certain actions will hold
What about pavlov's dog?
you can program abstract thinking into a computer
Pavlov's dogs, if I remember correctly, were trained specifically by humans
Humans learn by themselves
humans learn from other humans
I am also curious
How exactly would omnics make decisions?
Would they be biased, like humans?
Would they do what's right?
Humans were taught by the same thing dogs are taught by
Because I don't know if it is possible to make AI feel emotion
Other humans or other dogs
or simulate emotion anyway
And you dont need humans to teach other things
Birds learn how gravity works when they first leave the nest
And learn to fly
experience is a great teacher
Mammals learn how to eat from their mother breastfeeding
Lots of animals learn how to hunt through other animals
What I am trying to say, is that at the current state of tech, you need to teach robots/AI what to do/not to do
And lots of animals learn, killing animal = getting food
yes
Do they though?
Omniums were programmed to self improve
eventually, that develops into sapience
Where do omnics come from?
To remove that step
How are they born?
tada, omnic crisis
Whatever they are programmed with from the omnium
Which was constantly evolving
I recommend you read more about Machine Learning
Overwatch and omnics/omniums is just
robots/androids doing menial service jobs is common in sci-fi because that's the trajectory technology is going in
why pay a person to do what you can get a robot to do for free?
That's called a coffee machine, and it exists
Would it ask you what coffee you want
possibly
Would it just do what it wants?
it would ask for instructions
Depends on how it was made
if its programming gave it the option to refuse or question orders, then it might
I also think that in order for AI to be realistic, it has to be unpredictable
Was it made to make coffee based on what coffee product is inside of it? Then it makes the best coffee based on the input
Was it made to make coffee based on request? Then it searches for the correct beans in its inventory, and then makes the best coffee based on the input
Was it made to make coffee based on the user's historical preference, which it has adapted to remember? Then it searches for the correct combination that is optimized to their historical taste data, and then makes the best coffee based on the input
If it is a robot at a bar.
Would it server you specific coffee, or the one that it knows most people prefer?
what if you ask a robot to make you coffee and it's a robot that wasn't programmed to make coffee?
Again
Depends on how it was made
Or how it was taught
Whether it taught itself
Or was taught directly by humans
If it was taught to have a set default selection, it would pick that
If it was taught to make a sampler based on new user input, it would pick based on that
If a human was at a bar, would you serve it specific coffee, or the one that it knows most people prefer?
I just want to know, would a robot choose the choice that it was told to or not? If you tell a human to do something, they always have the option of NOT doing it.
Or would it do the obvious solution and just ask
If the bartender picks the option of NOT doing it
it really depends on the robot and its programming
if the robot was programmed to only make coffee and doesn't have the option of not doing it, then it will do it
if the robot has the option of not making the coffee, you might have to convince it
It depends on how the human laerned to serve customers
If the human learned that it is best to offer customers a default beverage to assess their tastes
It will do that
If an AI learned that it is best to offer customers a default beverage to assess their tastes
It will do that
What happens if several people asked for coffee at one time?
The robot would probably have an easier time than the human at remembering the orders
again, depends on programming
it might process the orders in the order they were received, or in the order that is most efficient, or in whatever order it thinks is best
It depends on how it was taught. Whether it was taught by itself, or taught by humans
Omnics self-learn, right?
in any of these scenarios, replace "programming" with "training", and you could be talking about a human barista
If it was taught by itself, does that mean it’s failed to serve drinks before?
So, per say, they aren't exactly programmed for specific tasks? Do they just take previous omnic knowledge?
@pliant sparrow Probably, yes.
That is how you learn is through experimentation and failure
we don't know much about omnic development/creation
we don't know what knowledge they're "born" with
That’s true
Lets say you had an AI that made you and only you dinner every da
And you asked for a new meal every day of the week
So, if they have to make a decision, do they really have the ability to choose?
It would try to expand in different ways to learn what your preferences are
If it discovers you don't like dishes with uncooked tomatoes, it will stop making dishes with uncooked tomatoes
If it discovers you really like dishes that have sesame, it will start cooking with sesame more often.
Same way a normal personal chef would adapt
What if it wants to be mean to you and put uncooked tomatoes in? Can they do that?
If a human did that they would get fired.
Yes, but they cant still DO IT
Suppose their ability to choose depends on if they were actually programmed to do anything
If they’re programmed to do something in particular for people they don’t really get a choice if they can do it or not
If it was created solely to deal with making you dinners based on your tastes
And was never designed with any other purpose
Why would it say no
Then is it AI?
Yes
if they're capable of learning, it might learn that the humans it is serving are being cruel to it, and learn how to be cruel back to them
If it cant choose
Can you choose to shoot flames out of your arms?
or learn that if they behave a certain way, the cruelty stops
If a robot wasn’t programmed to follow a particular order and is self-learning, couldn’t it learn how to make choices?
@pliant sparrow Depends on the type of self learning
That’s true
AI programming is complicated
Then the only reason it will ever stop making food is because it discovers you don't like food
Omnics are not a robot that was just made for culinary preference
then an omnic will react exactly the same as a human
which means it depends on the personality of the omnic
Omnics are sapient machines that are capable of mimicking humans
if you asked Zenyatta to make you a coffee, he would probably do his best
They became sapient when the self-improving algorithm inevitably learned solved sapience and emotional response.
But how can it make a choice? If it sees a person being murdered, would it help? A human can choose. They can run. Help. Yell. Call the cops.
if you asked Lynx to do it, they'd tell you to make your own (and make them one while you're at it)
An Omnic is fully sapient
But that was exactly my point
Is it just Omnics that are fully sapient robots in the overwatch world?
Or are there others?
How can you make a fully sapient omnic and encorperate it into society in only 30 yrs
How can you land on the moon after inventing planes <70 years ago
Would Athena count as sapient? Or do we not know?
Planes were invented in like 1900s,weren't they
And the moon landing was 70 years later
I dont remeber exactly
Late 1800s I think
1899
very late 1800s
Athena is a glorified Siri
Lol
Exactly 70 years before the moon landing
Really depends on science advancement
My bad, I looked it up
67 years
It was even shorter
If you want to make it shorter
Landing on the moon is one thing
I think cellphones are a better example
First flight to first man in space was only 59 years
first cell phone (mobile phone) invented in 1973
Cars to computers could be an example
The world wide web was invented in 89
about 30 years later (early 2000s) everyone has one and they can surf the internet
add another 10-20 years, and people basically can't live without them
1 second, I have a relevant graph
I honestly think a more impressive thing is Tracer's Manipulator
Thr girl can go through time
The*
Well...
To fast forward or reverse
if it's 10:05 and she recalls, it's still 10:05 for Tracer
A couple of seconds
she just goes back to where she was a few seconds ago
Still
This is not quite the same
Adoption rates rather than enhancement rates
But the pattern still persists that newer technologies become mainstream much faster than older technologies
And as an extention
They also get developed at a faster rate
The evolution of the phone was shorter than the evolution of the television or the evolution of the internet
A fully functioning space base was created 25-ish years before thr events of overwatch
And China is already growing cotton on the moon
Fun fact, that space base is also Chinese (the Horizon Lunar Colony)
Didn’t that plant die?
Yea
we currently have a permanent space station orbiting the earth
They learned the lesson, will adapt, and will try again with success.
We also have
Actual stuff growing on the ISS
And not dying
it's not too much of a leap to have a base on the moon (if people actually try to do it)
I am curious, what jappened to overpopulation
So is there any way we could terraform the moon currently?
right now space colonization isn't much of a priority in the world
In 60 years, there must be 10+bil. People in the world
Because they probably haven’t been able to do it or it takes to long in Overwatch’s universe l
Maybe even 15+
the omnic crisis probably knocked the world population down a bit
Actually the figure would probably be closer to 9 billion
the 2 world wars certainly did
Due to how the population growth is predicted to slow down
Population growth is a parabola, not an exponential growth
based on the descriptions, the omnic crisis seemed to be on the scale of a world war
meaning the global population would take a massive hit
I think it would have had more victims
Due to the omnics not being human
So humans probably wouldn’t have been taken as slaves/workers
true, but the omnics not being human means there's only human casualties on one side
instead of on both sides
yes
but it also depends on how omnic comply to human made rules of engagement
If i were omnic i would try to spread poisonous substances around, officially or not
since many of those would only harm organics
like, destroying the ecosystem of whole area would take a huge hit on the population due to food shortage but would have little negative effect on inorganics like omnics
Nuclear bombs could have easily been used considering radiation wouldn’t affect them
So the new skins are based on different generals in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel?
Radiation wouldn’t affect them
Radiation on a nuclear bomb scale does affect robots
not in the same way as humans obviously, but it messes with electronics hard
@past panther yes dynasty warriors basically
real and fiction there are thousands of people to choose from, and many famous personality. Not just generals, but things like famous pets, weapons, scholars, tacticians, and hot chicks (no kidding)
check out various games around hat is super loosely based on thsoe
nuclear bomb wold damage stuff jsut as bad for omnics, plus the emp and what not from it woudl have huge effect on electronics.
a dirty bomb with radioactive payload, however, would work well against organics.
but even without those omnics can have huge impact on human population as a tactic. simple things like damaging water source would work quite well.
I really wish there was an underwater-base map
Maybe like an Overwatch or Talon base
Watchpoint:Atlantis
It could function like Lunar Colony in some parts
Like no gravity
And lower vision
Or maybe the meka team going down to the kaju Ominic base to fight?
All heroes would have oxygen tanks?
I doubt Blizzard woukd create a whole new game concept just for a map
Tho, they did create the non gravity for Horizon
Archive event maybe
Ye
I want an Archive event that doesn't deal with Overwatch directly
Maybe like a MEKA mission or a Talon mission
I mean, we had blackwatch
Blackwatch is still a part of Overwatch
that said, the next Archives event is indeed poised to be a Talon event
they've been setting it up exactly the same way they set up Retribution
with Uprising, we got two new Blackwatch skins that were not used in any kind of in-game event
with Retribution, we got two new Talon skins that were not use in any kind of in-game event
do you mean Doomfist and Sombra?
yes
So it might be after
Does Widow have a Talon-oriented skin?
Wait
She does
Right?
But its like normal faced
Her talon skin is her base skin
Cause you know the whole lore about being kidnapped and experimented on and turned blue and all that
True
But she also has a skin called 'Talon'
Just like Doom and Sombra
Just out of curiousity, would the Soldier:24 skin be during his time with Overwatch, right?
before that
I assume that is his army skin during the strike team during the omnic crisis but not every skin has roots in lore so dont think too deeply into it
Also yes if i understand your question correctly
definitely after Retribution, most likely after the Fall but it's not clear
No idea yet. The time frame on that is a bit sketch. Some people thing he was a double agent when in OW post retribution which I think is dumb af but whatever, Some people think it's after the Swiss HQ fell and OW got disbanded but again that's not well known
There are a lot of theories about it tho which are fascinating but again they're only theories
Na she would be bi obviously... I mean she had a husband and all...
Yeah she's a WIDOWmaker
😬
i'm hoping that someday we will see an interaction between junkrat and jucio
i feel like they can learn a lot from eachother
lucio*
that's an odd combination
Someone said something about having emotions on a robot... i would like to remind you that we've already succesfully simulated the brains of a tiny worm into a simple robot with wheels
Missing a couple neurons from a human brain but still :D
Emotions would come with
@dawn knot ?
idk twas just attempting to move the conv along
this chat is the only one i ever look at
and i really didn't want to see what was there as the most recent thing
twould be actually interesting to see that though, junkrat and the frog boy, ngl tho
also nah that worm could not have been just a couple of neurons away from a human brain
unless that is exaggeration, i directly oppose that statement
Seeing McCree fight junkrat and Roadhog would be interesting
Say he catches junkrat and then Roadhog bursts through the wall behind him
I’m pretty sure they said they’re working on a movie
if they made a movie would you want live action or animated
live action of game movies are usually shit or worse than shit.
I mean, even the warcraft movie is mediocore at best.
animation is much better
i mean animated would probs be better but it would be so cool seeing them all live like that
Overwatch does not need a live action movie.
Yea really.
Animated, sure, because they could hire the same voices
But live action? Hell no.
If they do live
I think only 3 or 4 VAs can play themselves
Like Lucio, Tracer, any non-human
A short film, like 5-10 minutes would work best if they wanna try live action. Could probably do one with Moira.
Yea
soldoer 76 was Bf with winstion ?
@regal coyote no info on when Sombra joined
she seems to be a recent hire
but "recent" can mean anything
she could have easily been recruited around the same time as Tracer
hello i was told Solder 76 was Bf w Winston is real?
uhh, no
oh so he isnt Gay
??
just a prank ..
i dont know . my friend say he is gay becauee he liked Winston
he's gay but your friend was joking about winston
the photo that Ana is holding is a picture of Jack with his former boyfriend
his name is Vincent
Ok thank .. I was scared i thinked the Soldier was with gorilla haha..
@still pier
wtf Sorry i accidental type my name.
we are all soldiers now.
a showdown between McCree and the junkers would be interesting
clues on Castillo point to him tracking them down, and he has a voice line about them having a bounty
no
@spiral timber Shitposting will result in a loss of access.
Just ignore them
oh sorry
i was lowkey not joking
hes defo going after ashe from the reunion short
they were a couple
the picture of vincent and soldier reminded me of the pic mccree had of him and ashe on his bike
Hmm looks like we didn't get a hero skin drop today
I kinda wish that all events are lore related
Probably would be nice to see how overwatch celebrate chinese new year
Guan Yu Reinhardt
Guan Yu ([kwán ỳ] (About this soundlisten); died January or February 220),[a] courtesy name Yunchang, was a general serving under the warlord Liu Bei during the late Eastern Han dynasty of China. Along with Zhang Fei, he shared a brotherly relationship with Liu Bei and accompanied him on most of his early exploits. Guan Yu played a significant role in the events leading up to the end of the dynasty and the establishment of Liu Bei's state of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period. While he is remembered for his loyalty towards Liu Bei, he is also known for repaying Cao Cao's kindness by slaying Yan Liang, a general under Cao Cao's rival Yuan Shao, at the Battle of Boma.
Guan Yu's life was lionised and his achievements glorified to such an extent after his death that he was deified during the Sui dynasty. Through generations of story telling, culminating in the 14th-century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, his deeds and moral qualities have been given immense emphasis, making Guan Yu one of East Asia's most popular paradigms of loyalty and righteousness.
Heh, basically Reinhardt
they were a couple
No they were not.
the picture of vincent and soldier reminded me of the pic mccree had of him and ashe on his bike
That was Ashe's bike, not his
@spiral timber
They were never in a relationship, and likely never will be
If there ever was any attraction, it was one sided from Ashe to McCree, based on their interactions
And that's an If
McCree never was interested in Ashe far as we know
ahhh ok
dunno how i feel
LOL
Me neither
i feel the exact same
idk if i like it or not?
the most mind fucking skin in the gmae
game
not sure why he got a skin though
he already has that other one from lunar
reapers new skin is still the best
why
why does that skin exist
Has tracer gotten any skins for the last 2-3 events?
1 sec
Her most recent skin was the OWL All Star legendary
Before that was an Anniversary epic
And before that was the first anniversary legendary
So no skin for Summer, Halloween or Christmas
However
She has a Lunar New Year epic, right?
Skins:
10 -
11 - Hammond, Ashe
12 - Brigitte
13 - Orisa, Moira
14 - Doomfist
15 - Hanzo, Ana, Winston
16 - Zenyatta, Roadhog, Genji
17 - Reaper, Torbjorn, D.Va, Pharah, Soldier, Sombra, Symmetra, Junkrat
18 - Mei, Zarya, Mercy, Lucio, Reinhardt
19 - Tracer, McCree, Bastion, Widowmaker
She is still tied for most skins in game
Overall
Doomfist needs some good skins
Most of his are not that great imo
Maybe except for Formal
and the Doomfish one as well
There will probably be little lore this event
if Torbjorn gets one that will make him the second hero with a skin for every event
skins aren't given out according to who needs them or how many they have
Tracer might be drew for skins, but there's 3 "sets" of skins, ie punk, mach t, sprinter all with an near identical corresponding skin
Not to mention all stars and slipstream are behind paywalls
You could argue she has 14 skins in that case
Yh theres quite a lot of heroes with origins edition skins, but no other hero has 3 duo set skins
Which are all mediocre / trash imo
McCree has Gambler/Riverboat and Mystery Man/Vigilante
Widowmaker has Huntress/Comtesse and Odette/Odile
ever hero launched with 2 pairs of legendary skins
That's my point, tracer has an extra one that inflates her number unnecessarily
Tracer, Lucio, Zarya, Torbjorn amd Mei all have event legendaries that form pairs
It makes her look like she has a lot, when in actuality if she doesn't get one this event, it will be over 2 years since shes had one
A legendary?
her Anniversary skin was an epic
but a skin is a skin
why does the number even matter?
Because we are counting legendary I thought?
And all stars was behind a £15 paywall
Which is more than the full game has cost at some points
okay, so ignore that then
but why does the number of legendary skins a hero has matter?
it doesn't make them play better, or give them loads more lore
Idk lmao I was just talking about you guys counting them earlier
It just means it makes her look like she has a lot to choose from when she doesnt
Especially when you've had the same few choices for nearing 2 years
With little to no change
two skins that have the same model but different texture are still 2 different skins
I like Riverboat but I don't like the colours on Gambler
But if you dont like the aesthetic of it, then not just one but two pointless skins for ya
I dont like punk for example, so I'm not gonna like the rest coloured alternative
One is a recolour of another, if u dont like the aesthetic then I'm not gonna like the counter part, simple
Aesthetic = the model, not just the colouring of it
just because you don't like them doesn't mean they should be counted as 1 skin
That's not really the point I'm making, I'm just saying if you dont like ones aesthetic, you dont like both
Which is a waste of a skin
Which inflates the number
Which leads to a hero not getting a skin for 2 years
I think most of Torbjorn's skins are terrible
does that mean they shouldn't be counted?
No, I'm talking specifically about tracer having 3 sets of duo skins
they should make another tier of skin, where the actual model is changed, shortened or heightened everything
Torb has unique skins even if they are terrible
No they shouldn't lmao, hitboxes would be fucked
but just chnage them to fit the skins
pairs of skins are not counted as 1 skin
because heroes then dont get skins for 2 years as people argue they have enough skins already
the devs don't care how many skins a hero has
they make skins when they have an idea for one
But the community does
And out of any part of the game, skins (which create micro transactions for loot boxes) they will listen to the community for
Tracer hasn't gotten an event legendary for 2 years because the art team doesn't have any ideas they want to use for her
not because she has 5 event legendaries already
I'm sure they aren't completely at a loss for designs
They probably do one every event for her and pick other heroes over them as "other heroes deserve the love more"
heroes don't "deserve" anything
Honestly, the fact that mei has more is the only reason I see people realising tracer has had fuck all recently
Again, that's just a phrase I see thrown around a lot in this server and reddit
do you know which hero is the only hero to have a skin for every event?
No idea
McCree
Honestly scrooge is worthy of legendary status
Tracer and Widowmaker are missing Halloween, Mei is missing Summer Games, Torbjorn is missing Lunar New Year, Zenyatta and Junkrat are missing Archives, Mercy, Reinhardt, and Reaper are missing Anniversary
I always think pajamei is summer games tbh
there's probably others
most of the release heroes are missing one event
Mei has more event emotes than anyone, but they keep giving her new ones
their models are more or less identical, with the exception of his hand and beard on Ironclad
they're not as close as Luna/Chang'e or Sprinter/Track and Field
but close enough that I'd consider them a pair
that's old news
@steel laurel Do you have any more funny emojis before you get muted?
I understand
Just that I never thought of them as a pair until you mention torb
Which makes sense
that was the last time a hero got two skins in the same event
I'm annoyed that Orisa has been ignored.
I love playing as her, but it's annoying that the newer heroes have had more cosmetic skins than she has.
I mean meh? I think Orisa has a lot of skins when compared to brig or hammond
Orisa has 2 event skins
Moira has 3 event skins
Brigitte has 2 event skins
Wrecking Ball has 1 event skin
Ashe has 1 event skin
I guess it makes sense that they want to add event skins for old characters before giving those to new ones
Doomfist has 3 event skins
WB and Ashe are new though, so it makes sense they don't have many
yes
Brig bear skin?
The Shieldmaiden
that said though, i would say recently released characters are mea nt to have less skin, as th number should increase over tim.
The other thing to consider is dupes, some character have more skin that are palette swap
while some are completely different thing. (most obvious is some of the solor swap on things like olympic skin, and some event skin)
Rarity level of skin matters in a way too.
Or you can just look at the full list
Skins:
10 -
11 - Hammond, Ashe
12 - Brigitte
13 - Orisa, Moira
14 - Doomfist
15 - Hanzo, Ana, Winston
16 - Zenyatta, Roadhog, Genji
17 - Reaper, Torbjorn, D.Va, Pharah, Soldier, Sombra, Symmetra, Junkrat
18 - Mei, Zarya, Mercy, Lucio, Reinhardt
19 - Tracer, McCree, Bastion, Widowmaker
Sombra is the biggest winner of cosmetics
But Doomfist is enjoying it too
Hammond’s event skin is the best though
Ana and Orisa were overtaken by newer characters
Also Hanzo and Winston
OH wait
I forgot about Bastet
Ana is at 16
Thanks for correction
Operation White Dome happened at the end of the omnic crisis
ALso, Ana was not a healer
Mercy was still a child
She didn't invent her biotic tech yet
So Ana wouldn't even be Ana
My top expectations for the event include the Cairo incident or a Talon assault against Overwatch.
My top expectation for hero 30 is Dr. Hamid Faisal, the Archeologist based in Petra
fyi discord has actual strikeout (~~) and you don't have to do that abomination with overlay symbols
another option for Archives could be the Japan incident, presumably taking down the Shimadas
and they're fairly consistent when they actually do say when something happened
the OW timeline has actually been quite consistent
we just don't have context for a lot of things
so we don't know where they fit in the timeline
most of the comics for example
As it is, Hammond was in Junkertown for around a decade
Which isn't too bad, I remember worse stuff but I'm sleepy
Searching
that's the main black spot on their otherwise good record of timeline consistency
Thats the obvious one
But the post-recall timeline is also kind of janky
For Mei and Winston/Tracer
Recall -> Alive -> Rise and Shine -> Mei visits Winston and joins Overwatch -> Mei starts her journal in America -> Mei makes a name for herself with her work in the present -> Winston and Tracer FINALLY do something Overwatch and stop Widow/Reaper -> When was Christmas during all this
there's a lot of holes right now that need filling in
Then you tack on Doomfist/Sombra/Orisa
You get Infiltration after the failed heist
Then Searching starts
Doomfist breaks out of Jail
Masquerade happens
The OR15s are builts and deployed
Doomfist then goes to Numbani
Destroys them and steals back his gauntlet
Orisa is built from the ashes
THEN Zarya finally gets to Numbani during Searching
The comic is only half over
in watching the shorts - I at first thought the little girl in the soldier video in el dorado was a young sombra - too bad the timeline didn't add up right
it's definitely for the better
Alejandra is not Sombra. It was a common mistake for some reason, even though there was nothing to suggest that the short took place 20 years in the past
she doesn't look that much like her either
she's also mexican so basically same thing innit
ARE ROADHOG AND JUNK FRIENDS
they tolerate each other at least
I'll just repost what I said on the forum
Junkrat seems to like Roadhog.
Roadhog tolerates Junk at best
Well hello there
@limpid agate "The OR15s are builts and deployed"
I personally think the police OR15s may have been functional for years before the doomfist incident.
Maybe in a slightly different area.
LOTS of them are built it seems.
They were new to an 11 year old
Early on, a lot of people thought the Hero short took place in the past because the Lumérico pyramid isn't shown very well
But it's still there just out of view most of the time
past yes, before 76 gets to egypt, but after he borrowed his weaponary
we knew it was post fall though
according to the in-universe articles, Soldier: 76 didn't start appearing until recently
so it couldn't be in the past
plus there's Chu's GDC timeline
I hope blizzard makes more cinematics
They could try some different styles too. Like 2D animation.
Theres just a lotta lore that the characters talk about while waiting for the match to start that sounds neat
Their 3D models are pretty darn good though
we get 2 every year
Ye like doomfists trailer
plus origin trailers for each new hero
I feel like they could have used the McCree one to show him fighting junkrat and Roadhog
why would he be in the same place as the junkers, much less fight them
you can find both McCree's hat and Junkrat's plan to blow up the bank in the bar on Castillo
hints seem to point at McCree maybe pursuing them for their bounty
We have any idea who the next hero is gonna be?
Echo is obviously out but who are the other candidates?
Hamid Faisal, the archaeologist working on Petra, seems like a strong candidate
Tbh it can be kinda random.
Like yeah those are good candidates but...
I don't think we knew about Ashe before she was announced right?
we didn't know Ashe but we did know it had something to do with Deadlock after the hints on R66
Ashe is the exception not the rule
Every other hero was teased in the months leading to their release, and introduced in so.e form before their debut
Is Junker Queen an option?
not a very likely one
she was more likely before we got Ashe
I think she will be a hero but not for a while
Hamid is a likely candidate for next hero because he was referenced recently, and they seem to be alternating male and female heroes (now that its equal)
not sure what role he'd fill in the game, but I don't particularly care either
They teased Hamid
proof?
