I think Meteor is their Nike/Addidas . . . a way to put a brand name on sports gear without paying royalties
it's my least favorite of the new Summer Games skins
that being said
it's fun to see Winston actually get an interesting Legendary skin again
Specimen 28 was a big disappointment
I like the sunglasses
oh I saw an "early doomfist footage" video
and it's on the wiki too
don't know where's that video from, but it's pretty sure from an event
not really lore related, but cool
And the Lunar New Year stuff wasn't fake, it was just so generic that it wasn't provable
it also features an early version of orisa shield
@frosty shell It was wrong.
It said expect Genji/Hanzo skins, and maybe Tracer
Neither got skins, Tracer did get her epic
Not really, it said "expect skins for the usual," not an exact prediction
He probably didn't know which skins they were getting so he just guessed who he thought would get ones
Blizzyleaks (or his information source) likely didn't work on the art team, which is where the skins came from
He said it on the immediate same post as
"I only want to speak to what i know about"
I would say that him saying "maybe Tracer" meant that despite his warning at the beginning of his post, he was still guessing as to the specifics

@carmine stream Говорите по-английски.
when is the next short coming out?
I think a month or so
Summer games has no connection to the next short
Idk anymore
D.va Short pleaaaaaaaseee
Maybe during her time in the Busan Police
Or her rise in the MEKA
Well she was a police officer in Busan before joining the MEKA
ok, beach look d.va is cute yes. but grandma Ana is lovely
the rest is meh so far.
I mean it is not bad, but not special either
D.Va is a movie star, but not sure if there is any known featured movie with her as an officer
@jaunty path that skin isn't canon
before she was recruited by MEKA, she was a pro-gamer
and she also doubled as an actress, I guess
but there's nothing in the lore about her being a police officer
Actress is canon
due to all posters and what not and her appearance on TV
though I suppose it is sort of an USO-show like situation
so when not in combat type mission she does mvoeie/watever star type of things
both as propaganda and as her own stardom career
well
why else would things like her combat footage be aired?
I mean surely it is a decision that D.Va herself cannot make alone
the idea behind using terms like "propaganda" is that there's a hidden agenda behind it
please dont be political about it
traditionally department responsable for these stuff in military is called and refered to as propaganda
so I am using it as the neutral and technical meaning of the word
It is something that is done by all parties and all government, and not necessarily a bad thing
@tranquil sun @rigid anchor @Who put you on the planet,EAUGHH#7449 Shorts come out with Gamescom and Blizzcon. The reason why you connect it to Summer Games is because both happen in August. They are unrelated entirely. Gamescom is where you will get a short.
@regal coyote Stop trying to inexplicibly defend random skins
So what if DVa is an actress
Hero of my Storm is not some buddy cop movie
??
not defending anything "D.Va is a movie star, but not sure if there is any known featured movie with her as an officer"
Just saying .
not defending, but saying that i do not see proof of her acting in any way as a cop
She seems to have done a lot in her life for someone who is only 19
Nothing like a teenaged pro gamer turned celebrity turned combat veteran to make you feel inadequate
So im new to this who's lore are we supposed to talk about?
Any lore you want to
Ok
any overwatch lore
@worthy rose Yes.
I'm trying to compile a list of any new lore we've gotten in July
There isn't much, but so far I've got:
- Junkrat's riptire was inspired by watching Wrecking Ball fight (from the art stream)
- Pharah's raptora suit has an internal AI (from the SDCC panel, may have been retconned/the idea might have been dropped)
- Junker Queen was able to take over Junkertown because of her fame and popularity; the Scrapyard champion isn't automatically the ruler like we thought (from a Michael Chu comment on the forums)
is summer games out?
not until Thursday 11am PST
I stopped thinking that chamption = royalty when they specified she's a FORMER champion.
it's still an actual common misconception that I see in the fandom
- Pharah's raptora suit has an internal AI (from the SDCC panel, may have been retconned/the idea might have been dropped)
They said that was the plan in early development
It doesn't have an AI anymore
Feat not, Hammond adopted that factoid.
yeah, but it would have been something new for Pharah and we haven't gotten much for her in a while
Who knows what Gamescom has in store
hello
it's a scientific base intended to monitor various aspects, mostly related to climate
and Mei is a climatologist
@limpid agate yes the Raptorian AI thing was dropped, and the idea reused in w-ball of hammond
so basically it is canon that w-ball have some AI.
Pharah suit does not have AI, unless otherwise said later on.
But the rip-tire thing is pretty coolr eally
Why was the moon station made?
research?
lunar colony [research] [gone wrong]
I think it was to test animal's reactions to living on the moon or something
It was intended to test effects of long-term space habitation
and the animal testing wasn't the only thing the lunar colony did
also the colony or colony group is HUGE
according to overwatch mps we can see
the ones we know about is Harizon
So I guess the rest of the colonies just quarantined the apes off and acted like they lost contact and don't know what happened?
Technically we don't know if they all had apes.
They may have been for other types of research
it's unlikely they did
the question is how do they continue operation after one of the parts of the complex got murder ape'd
It would be easy if not all parts of the complex were connected
Or if they could be locked off by big air-tight locks (like bulkheads on a ship)
But aside from like the purely practical terms
would they not want to retake it? do they just "we don't go to ravenholm" it?
Would you want to go subdue half a dozen highly intelligent great apes?
not if I'm a random scientist on another part of the complex
yes if i'm the corporation that has invested a lot of money into it
Lucheng probably decided it was a write-off and let them have it
eeeeeeeh maybe
(I dunno, there's a lot of holes in this writing and it's easier to ignore it than it is to fill the holes)
Abandoning the colony when contact was lost works if that was the only colony up there (which seems to be the implication)
But if Horizon is only part of the colony and there are still other active sections up there, it doesn't make any sense
I think the Horizon we see is all that's up there, and the apparent size of the colony when viewed from Earth is exaggerated so it can be seen easier
either way something is a stretch
The scale on the maps is always exaggerated to make gameplay easier or to make things "read" better
the view on the moon isn't really a map thing though
We currently have no proof of anyone/anything else on the moon aside from the Horizon Lunar Colony
All we have is what we're told, and that is that Horizon was overthrown by apes and Lucheng lost contact with the entire colony
We have to keep in mind that these are apes with human-level intelligence
And the cost of sending things up into space is probably pretty high
So it may well have been that it wasn't worth it for Lucheng
My theory is that the huge circle on the moon is a particle accelerator or some kind of scientific facility
That's one of the good things about not getting new lore- you can make up headcanons to hand wave away the plotholes
HLC might be in the center of the big ring
new hero when
November
I heard new hero
She is who I am expecting, but I had to use a pronoun. In hindsight, could have used it
unlikely it, as it would mean lynx, a rather underperforming piece of toaster
JQ is one of the likely future hero yes
JQ is specifically for hero 29
After that, she goes back in new hero limbo
Like Max and Sanjay
Who had potential for the last 3 heroes, but none for 29
2 aussie related ero in a row. could be.
since hamie is not technically aussie but moonie
The fact that they had to say Hammond is NOT a Junker helps the Queen
when did the Horizon uprising happen? was it pre-Omnic Crisis?
No
Thats impossible
The Omnic Crisis was 30 years ago
Winston isn't even 30 years old
Hammond is only 14
The Horizon Uprising was 13-11 years ago
also mei communicated with human winston
just that fact alone makes it not 30 years ago
... What
WHere did you get that from
She never knew human Winston
She knew monkey Winston
@limpid agate I mean, when you're talking about someone whose identity is unknown, it's best to use "they"
Ok
@regal coyote Lynx wouldn't be bad as a hero
you don't need to be so pointlessly edgy about it
@limpid agate for some reason I can't help but feel like Hamid is next
like, I know we've got more material for the Queen
and that she's been teased for longer
but still
I want to learn more about Hamid
But, and this is a very vague speculation that I dont take too seriously
I think his best chance is hero 31
not 30?
Based on how many heroes became playable exactly 1 year after their first debut
ah
Ana - Debuted in Soldier Origins
Sombra - DEbuted in Dorado
Hammond - Debuted in Horizon Lunar Colony
Its only 3 and not a real pattern
But if Queen is 29, that makes it 4
And again
Its not real
But its something funny I picked up on
Also funny, Brig and Doomfist are 2 years after their debut in the same slot
Again, it aint areal theory I believe in
well, maybe there is something to it
not intentionally, but rather, because of development time
Heroes take around 12-8 months to make
8 months and on they're more or less concrete on their choice.
So odds are, when picking a hero, they look at what people are asking for at the time of selection
This time last year, people wanted Hammond
November last year, people wanted the Queen
I mean to be fair, they kinda already made these characters, in a way
Yeah
even though they were just namedrops
Yeah
But probably had concrete designs for a while
Like, look at the Queen
The only difference between last year and now is she has a cape, and her hair is blue
Also whatever is blow the torso, we didnt know the first time
And then Doomfist
He was the Successor with a design since Numbani was a map
so did brig since ppl talk about her from rein comic
How come they dont make full films of overwatch? It doesnt have to be recall or anything but they could make movies dedicated to a couple of characters
Just like marvel and dc
Im sure they could make tonnes of money from it
Widow T H I C C Is all the lore I need
oh hey, it's the second worst type of lore drop right here: https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/overwatch/t/i-wonder-how-torbjorn-sleeps-with-that-mechanical-arm-at-night/181779/13
the "no fucking shit, everyone knew that" type of lore drop
I guess third worst, the second is the "literally telling again something we already knew word for word"
first worst being retcons
I remember that "things you don't know about Overwatch heroes" video
and
it was all things we already knew
😄
I don't really mind retcons
Of course it was stuff we knew, we practically stalk the devs looking for lore
But to the average Overwatch player, most of that would be new information
I wouldn't really consider that comment as a "lore drop" - it's a common sense answer to a stupid question
people are already trying to claim that it's something about a Torb rework
and going on about retcons
why are people so fucking stupid
Because OW lore is a joke apparently
it's not, people are just stupid about it
acting like the fact that they know nothing, means that there's nothing
a projection of their own ignorance
Exactly
If they bothered to do even an ounce of research, they'd find plenty of lore
Yes we've had a bit of a drought lately, but that doesn't mean there's nothing at all
People also argued that Brigitte's teasers were actually teases for Torbjorn's new weapons.
People here.
Who post frequently.
@peak escarp you know what's more joke than ow lore?
You know who you are.
@valid shell do you mean Hamster?
@worthy rose do tell
hots lore
But HotS is a crossover game
And last I checked, they're getting a comic series, so they do actually have lore coming out for that game
It has about as much lore as Smash Bros.
And that's actually quite a bit (for a crossover game)
I'm not about to defend one franchise by throwing another under the bus
Hi, it's me again. Got some screenshots for you to click on them if you wanna see something moderately cool
Sunglasses on Ilios Lighthouse https://imgur.com/FcjnSBt
They are Widowmaker's https://imgur.com/WmF2vL5
She's reading a greek newspaper about attacks during a carnival (100% Venice, 100% Rialto, more Rialto things coming "soon™") https://imgur.com/8wpohcb
Admiring her own handiwork?
Could be what she did in Masquerade
so she went to Ilios after the events of Masquerade
Greece isn't far from there
Nice place for a vacay
She could work on her . . . tan?
that color is actually the combined diffuse+actualskin texture merged with the diffuse being with 35% opacity and that mixture also having some temperature changes
it was a bit exhausting to research but in the end I solved the puzzle
interesting
the actualskin texture is just the skinparts in their "blue" color on a fully black background an it's an 1024x1024 texture while the diffuse contains the purple-colored one
and the diffuse is sized 2048x2048
neat
also I needed to change the exposure on the rendered image and it was the solution
@worthy rose Don't shill your trash here pls.
regardless, this isn't the place for it
How can I start following the lore? Where do I start? I have only watched a video explaining the "complete" lore of overwatch, but I assume there's much more?
check the pins on this channel
all the animated shorts, comics, origin trailers are there
below that are the in-universe articles that provide more background info
and if you have any more specific questions, this channel is always active with people who know the lore inside and out
they're listed in the order they were released in
as for timeline order . . . that's a more complicated question
I'll watch them in the order of pinned messages, if I get confused I could just ask. :3
that's a good way to do it
@tidal anchor Check out Hammeh's videos for quality lore compilation.
Will do! Thank you.
For who watched it, can you tell me if TGN's "complete OW lore guide" comprehensive or not?
it's fairly comprehensive, up to when it was released
some details have been revealed since it was released - such as Reinhardt being a survivor of the Battle of Eichenwalde and Balderich being one of the people originally recruited for Overwatch (he passed his invitation on to Reinhardt when it was clear he wouldn't survive the battle)
also the TGN video says McCree was the leader of Deadlock - McCree was 17 when he got busted, and was not their leader.
I see. And I watched some of the in-game dialogue interactions, some seem to reveal some more lore.
a few of them do
but be careful with in-game interactions - most of them are not canon, and just represent a sort of "what if" situation between heroes that may have never met
those interactions specifically are a point of contention around here
I think they represent a hint at a canon relationship between Genji and Mercy that has been hinted at in other places, but others think they aren't canon
I find it cannon, just not... important.
May I ask what's your personal favourite dialogue?
I enjoyed the interactions from the Retribution event
particularly Genji telling McCree that he agreed to become a cyborg so he could walk again
😭
I'll have to check those out, don't think I've heard them.
Hanzo and genji are still aren't on good terms, right?
their current relationship is complicated
Hanzo knows Genji is still alive, but Hanzo is still angry at himself for what he did
I like that hanzo decided not to join Talon.
he hasn't apologized to Genji, even though Genji has forgiven him
Specifically the interaction with doomfist.
I see.
If my brother beat the fuck out of me to the point I have to become a cyborg, I'd be mad.
Genji was mad
he had a lot of anger for a long time, and had pretty severe dysphoria about his half human, half robot body
he didn't find peace with himself until he left Overwatch and found Zenyatta
He has forgiven him. I never would, probably.
I would like to know how mccree lost his arm. As there was a retrib line between mccree and genji that forshadowed that
I've noticed most heroes have some kind of technology in their bodies.
I find that very interesting.
Hanzo seems to be on his own quest for self-acceptance right now
@tidal anchor Genji, Doomfist, Junkrat, Torbjorn, McCree, Symmetra.
Also Sombra is augmented, and Ana was augmented.
And with Hammond's release and his forehead plate, and Winston's ever-present visor, it makes me wonder if they're also augmented.
Ana was augmented?
Learning something new everyday
Doomfist:Hanzo, you should consider joining us. I think we'd see eye to eye.
Hanzo: I would have little to gain from such an arrangement. No, I will find my own path.
By far my favourite interaction.
Other than the Genji-Hanzo roasts.
Hello
@tidal anchor Widowmaker's also been scouting Hanzo since launch.
And we know Talon approached Sojiro Shimada, their dad.
So Talon REALLY wants the Shimada Clan in their pocket.
Dont blame talon for trying to pimp up the squad
Talon would be much more powerful with the Shimada clan on their side.
yes
Did genji kill his own family or something?
the bargain for Genji to get his cyborg body was for him to help dismantle the Shimada clan
what exactly that meant is unknown, but there was probably killing involved
Not dying is fun
Man, I have a lot of catching up to do.
Feel free to ask any questions!
Also there are giant engineered hamsters from the moon that pilot mech suits
I should probably watch all the shorts at least, probably most of them will answer my questions.
The comics help as well
Will give them a read too!
Watching the TGN lore video now
Oh nice!!
It gets most of it right, but there's some small details wrong
What details?
I'll make a list when I'm done watching
Okay thank you 😊
I won't mention stuff it got wrong due to not having the information yet
The video is almost a year old
But there's some things that we've known from the start that they got wrong
incorrect information in the lore video:
- McCree was not the leader of the Deadlock Gang (he was 17 when he was busted)
- D.Va was not a champion Starcaft player (her game of choice is unknown)
- There were not 28 specimens on the Horizon Lunar Colony - we do not know how many specimens there were
- also, not all specimens were gorillas - specimens included gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans and at least one hamster
- Hammond did not lead the rebellion on Horizon - the actual perpetrator is unknown (although specimen 9 Simon is a likely candidate)
- Mei was not the leader of the climatology project at Ecopoint: Antarctica - the leader was Captain Oppara
- Mei was in cryostasis for 9 years, not 10
- Mei has returned to Overwatch - she stated her intent to return in Rise and Shine, and in her journal, she mentions "my colleague Winston"
- Doomfist retrieved his gauntlet after returning to Talon, not before
- Bastion's location is not unknown - Bastion is currently under the care of Torbjorn
also a few Timeline issues - Pharah fighting Anubis, Lucio fighting Vishkar, Vishkar's work in Dorado, and Junkrat teaming up with Roadhog happens closer to Recall. The assassination of Mondatta happens after Recall. Bastion reawakening happened about 15 years ago.
I'm impressed that the video does not speculate about Mercy's involvement with Reaper's condition, even though it predates Moira's reveal so at that point it was still a mystery
most other lore summary videos go all-in on the "Mercy made Reaper" theory
- D.Va was not a champion Starcaft player (her game of choice is unknown)
Was that before or after the common misconception?
Because that was retcon
Blizzard official sources told us she was a Starcraft champ
Explicitly
Chu said it was a misconception within Blizzard as well (leading to some official sources saying she was a Starcraft champ), but I'll give you that one
https://twitter.com/westofhouse/status/958493918756155392 "It's a common misconception, but D.Va wasn't a StarCraft pro before joining MEKA."(c) Michael Chu, lead writer I couldn't believe my eyes when I read this tweet. D.va was presented as a StarCraft champion - she had he...
the official sources were supposed to be an in-joke, not to be taken seriously
I don't see it as a retcon, just a correction of a misconception gone out of control
Thank you for the list, I appreciate it.
The official source was the lead artist at Blizzcon when DVa was revealed
Subscribe for more panels in the future
I know Chu outdoes Zhang
What I meant to say was
We had an official source that was not a joke
It was quite literally the hero's debut
then it was a case of us being given incorrect information from the start
the most shocking part is how long it took to get corrected
as you can see @tidal anchor, there's a lot of things we debate about in the lore channel
I can see that.
I actually enjoy debating things.
So, who knows? I might join in someday.
if you ever develop your own theories on the lore, we'd love to hear them
just make sure you can back them up with sources because we will try to tear it apart
I'm usually the rude one.
What i f,
Widowmaker was actually blue.
she is
@flat marsh Shitposting will result in a loss of access
I'm sorry, I didn't notice.
I'll make sure not to do it again.
Seriously though,
I'm curious on how Tracer's cronal-
Cro-
Thingy works. I know it keeps her in the time set and everything, but what makes it do that?
Cronal Accelerator
What makes it do that is science
The devs like to write things in a way of "Firm Science"
Things that sound sciencey enough
But not too descriptive
chronal
Do you think Blizzard will go to the "magic" route?
it works because the story needs it to
Hmm-
Never knew. I wonder what s c i e n c e is used to make the chips and stuff-
If they were gonna make Magic a thing, they would have done it with Moira and Reaper
they've already established that magic doesn't exist in Overwatch
I don't remember where the quote originated from, but I like it.
"Magic is just unexplained science."
Or something along those lines
Just science and technology
Arthur C Clarke
"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
But y'know,
How does it keep her there? Like, how does it go "Okay Lena, you can't phase out and crap, aight?"
The only unexplained thing is the dragons
And that is basically identical to Symmetra's orbs
And is very likely just hard light
But how does the light come to exsist with the dragons?
to put a sciencey sort of explanation on it, the chronal accelerator probably forces Lena's molecules into temporal sync with the current timeline (using some high tech rechargeable power source), rather than allow them to vibrate at a random temporal frequency
I see-
the dragons are probably hard-light emitters embedded in the skin, which take years of training to learn to control
Mmm..
Yeah, but wouldn't that would mean anyone could do that with years of practice?
i guess its a shimada bloodline trait or something
But they're h u m a n s
or maybe they own the patent on it and control it very tightly
That's what I was thinking
and that's part of why Talon wants to ally with the Shimada clan
and abuse of that technology is why Overwatch wanted to shut them down
Ooo, yeah.
Oh heccus yeah
what
watching Recall?
Dragons gave me chills.
I love the music in Dragons
that cue when Hanzo throws Genji off, slides across the floor to the arrow and nocks it . . . . ooh
gets me every time
Watch it lmao
fun fact - the animation of Hanzo using Dragonstrike in Dragons was recycled for the HotS short where he fights Alexstraza
it's the exact same animation
I liked the music when genji deflected scatter
Yeah they’re all really well made
Despacito
no
S t o p
It says shitposting will result in loss of action so I would watch it
Cool
Could be rehashed, or could be 'it's identifiable and will make nerds squeal'.
Wasn't there something about the news board or whatever it's called in lijang night market being translated
yes
didn't turn out to be about hero 28, but it's about the CEO of Lucheng Interstellar being a former Horizon scientist
Wasn't there something about artifacts in illios being found
Yup.
I’m considering freezing myself until GamesCon arrives. I’m hungry for lore that’s set in the current timeline.
I saw an overwatch meme video, and it had this idea that I thought was pretty cool. I think it would have made more sense if Hammy was a raccoon. They are smarter than hamsters, and are not much larger than hamsters either. What do you think?
I'll report back when Gamescom shows the vid seeing as I'll be there 👀
@fringe blade Also this is essentially shitposting, let's be real
What do you mean?
They probably didn't want it like Guardians of the Galaxy
Yea, that was probably one of the main reasons. A hanster just seems to be a weird choice of animal
@fringe blade well a racoon in a ball dosent make as much sense as a hamster in one
For gamescom(assuming we will get an animated short, like last year.) Do you guys something from the past? Or something that pushes the story further?
a racoon makes mroe sense than a super overgrown sized hamster
but my guess is that the scaled up hamster AND the racoon would be both taken into consideration at one point. And most likely the rocket racoon thing si oen of the reason they do hamster instead
Yes you can have a guinea pig in a giant ball too but generally guinea pigs are realtively frighty dumbfucks. (sauce; i have guinea pig pets, or had. last one dead 2 weeks ago... :( )
On hard light, there is NO SAUCE proving the dragons coming from the tattoo
for all it is the hard light thing might be just inside the weapon. and the whole trait thing of bloodline maybe some device decyphering the wielder's dna or brainwave.
So they dont have to store the tech in their meaty body
so even if genji had the tattoo and is damaged he can still sue it. I mean part of his DNA is there.
on the other note, we do not know if the current genji sword had component of his original dradon wielding weapon.
the young genji models shows no tattoo visible and a non-tech weapon.
so while the looks might be canon (sicne they are same as sprays and what not, still consistant) they might not be able to control dragons at that time.
I dont think the dragons will ever be explained
With this rate of lore were getting ur probably right
with any rate
Even if the lore was going quickly i still wouldnt think that theyd explain it
none of the lore we have was focused on explaining the science
overwatch universe's technology is 100% handwavium
They even picked hardlight because they said they wouldnt have to explain it
In fact have they ever explained the science behind any of the characters?
They showed how Mei built her first prototype gun I guess?
I'd hesitate to call that explaining the science
Still relies on “wow cool climate tech”
Yeah i i still dont know how the gun shoots ice
because there's no way that thing is supposed to work
it's not explaining the science
so fantasy science explanation is good enough
I know doomfist is just "top grade prosthetics"
like how fat GL explains the force
The most realistic weapon is probably junkrat’s frag launcher
we are talking about whether they explained the science
or all thsoe weird star trek tech
The chrono accelerator is what confuses me the most
Considering time is something invented by us
What
I’m not up for yet another chronal accelerator discussion while having to type on mobile
but time itself is a fundamental physical concept
Time travel will never be possible, there are no time particles are anything like that
How would you even begin to build a chrono accelerator?
no one argued about time travel?
you would study tracer's condition
then try to build something to stabilize her
then look at the tech and go "hm, wonder how else I could use that"
A condition that takes her out of reality?
yes?
I know its the rules of the overwatch universe but cmon
you'd use the technology implemented in the plane as a base
It was teleportation tech first remember
Why would a cloaking device take you out reality?
of course it's not realistic
because her condition wouldn't exist realistically
but within the universe it's researchable
it's caused by technology
you can study that technology
and you can carry out tests on herself
and it's not a cloaking device
Then what is it? A time travelling jet?
getting somewhere instantly > getting somewhere fast
would also get you past any defenses
But why a jet? Why not a watch or something?
eyeroll
A teleporter would have to store the state of the atoms within it and transport it elsewhere
So perhaps it worked by taking something out of being and then transporting it to somewhere else?
Which would explain how Tracer got mixed up in things
Something I just noticed
Doomfist must've been in communication with somebody from Talon before he broke free
He seems to know that Morrison and Amari didn't "die" when they were supposed to have
would certainly fit the trope
Not necessarily Jack and Ana
The thing he does know
Is Reaper
Reaper being Ex Overwatch
THey seem to know each other
@bright dock We dont allow that here
WHOMST THE FUCK IS PHARA DADDY
@thorn kestrel Phrase your questions in a way that is not a shitpost
Who is phara dad?
Sam
Better @limpid agate
He is a Native Canadian civil servant.
Hints in comics, in game, and Michael Chu
Noice
I don't see why not
The only hero who can't seem to die is Reaper
Tracer has to consciously activate her recall ability - if she takes severe damage and/or knocked unconscious she can't recall
No, she'd just lose her anchor to the timeline
Like in the Doomfist fight
If it gets destroyed, it doesn't kill her, she just has to be found again
Just realized though, how authentic is THIS as one of Moira's outfit.
Afterall it is made by Blizzard, so to speak. And as such it is at least an advertising tool?
This being not a skin means there is mroe details, since gameplay does not have to be considered. On the other hand this is in the physical world so some stuff needs to be modified to mke things functional for the wearer.
Less words please.
you're in the wrong channel for that
Are there any new formed countries after the omnic war in OW?
Can mercy really bring people back from the dead
No
Ok so it’s just for her gameplay purposes
Hanzo pulled the ol’ leave him to die with mortal injuries without actually killing him
Probably because he didn’t want to kill him
He then became edgy Genji
Overwatch had been watching the Shimada clan as a potential threat
it's likely they had people within the organization who could have stepped in
Kurjikstan exists in this world but we don't know when that was founded
@olive karma
Did moira work on reyes or was it mercy
Aren't there some theories that mercy made reaper?
If they exist, I'm not sure if theres evidence to back it up.
There used to be lines hinting at it in the beta I think? And there's still the "What happened to you?"/"You tell me, doc." interaction
But anything towards that has been retconned and it's official that Moira is the one behind Reyes's transformation
It's hinted that Moira did use some of Mercy's work to make it happen, though
it was mostly stuff taken out of context and fans looking for a solution
the "What happened to you?"/"You tell me, doc." interaction sounds more like Reaper asking Mercy to explain his condition
not him accusing her of being responsible
Could you technically fuse Genji machine parts with Orissa parts?
The Zen skin is
Obviously
Not canon
But there are a few interesting things about it
Specifically, the symbol on his hat for team Iris
Is that new?
I feel like I may have seen it on Nepal somewhere
it's part of this logo
Well, good find that's at the entrance of the Iris-related map.
In bright yellow.
Regardless, good find.
Well iris is part of the eye
exactly
Oh cool
Glad I have a cool fun fact about that skin now
Where do you think this skin ranks compared to the others
Yeah I would say the same
Not a zen main but it’s cool
I think cultist may be the best
But we have to see if the new skin has any unique things
Oh
I hope they give genji a batter skin to go with it but that’s probably really unlikely
Because that’s like three baseball skins for the event
He needs to have a skin where he's an anime princess
A lot more sports skins than last year
This is probably the biggest for those so far
But only 3 Meteor branded skins
Meteor is a company
They make sportswear
In game, a lot of summer skins have the Meteor brand on them
Oh ok
so some day we might have a sports star from meteor as a hero, or at least a named character
Why not the queen of junker town. And did you know they wanted a junker omnic with magnetic capabilities but junkers hate omnics so give those powers to the queen and make her a tank, we could get more than just supports.
they wanted a junker omnic with magnetic capabilities
have a source on that?
caus the junkers are smart enough to not let any omnic pieces of shit into their area, and pretty sure there would be NO omnic with magnetic ability near that area alive.
so basically there is NO WAY you get a junker omnic
they talked about a "HERO WITH MAGNETIC ABILITY" and that the tether of WBall is from that idea
@regal coyote why the fuck do you have actual negative feelings towards omnics that you feel the need to express constantly
like
why do you actually care
jesus christ
his aggressive hatred of omnics is really disturbing
hamster vs punikki let's go
well, if the current, though insufficient, lore is to be believable the omnics started the whole war with no reason at all one day without provokations.
and it seems the same thing happened in russia after the omnium there was deactivated.
IF these are actuall true info and not propaganda then tey would be at best ane xtremely unstable species, to say the least.
the thing is, until we have some info on how everything started, the omnic seem to be a bit not trustworthy
I am not saying ALL omnics are bad, but in general they are still a threat
Dude, Overwatch is a game
then again we have little info, like how we get so many omnic even though the omnium are supposed to be deactivated?
are they retrofitted military bots?
and as far as the junkertown thing is concerned, theya re a threat
the civilian omnics didn't suddenly rise and start killing people
why are there civilian omnics in the first place if the omnium are activated for war only and are deactivated after war?
also, do the omnics willingly go to war? or do omniums all ahve the ability to pull an anubis and all omnics have to answer to?
because there are other factories that made robots, and they could be retrofitted?
the omniums don't take over anyone
the hostile omnics are the ones who are made in the war omniums after reactivation
and as far as junkertown goes they are a problem to start with. While it is partly being the aussie government being spineless and willingly give HUMAN lands to omnics causing a bunch of people to lose their property and homs.
wait wait, so all/most omnics we see today are those that exist BEFORE the omnic war then?
just like in the real world, where the Australian government gave aboriginal land to European settlers?
Zenyatta is 20, the omnic crisis ended ~25 years ago
yes, spineless and unfair to the native aboriginal people
he was built after the crisis
it's reasonable to believe others were built after the crisis, with the intent of being civilians
wait wait, they say the omniums are deactivated after the crisis, so how are omnics built after that?
or does it mean omnium is NOT needed for omnic production?
(we ignore special omnium that are still at war here like russia and korean sea)
they probably allowed some to be reactivated as part of the peace accord, to allow omnics to control their own reproduction?
so the peaceful area omnium are in limited functional status then, to produce parts and things for civilian level omnics
we don't know enough about the omnic crisis
things rarely ever happen unprovoked
maybe that's just the story told to the public (and us) to keep opinions anti-omnic
I mean, if omnics were being produced for manufacturing and other menial jobs, and one day they developed sapience, they'd probably realize they were being exploited and revolt (see Detroit: Become Human for a somewhat ham-fisted representation of this)
I would say the detroit case is much more in-depth though
then again we have little info on the omnic's case and anything is our speculation at best
True
I feel like the omnic crisis is something they're saving for a big release
They almost did, once
why do the actions of a few represent a whole species? is every human ever awful and unstable because [insert clichéd bad person here] was a human?
I mean, I don't want to go too in-depth, but people already follow that logic with white people
"White people in the past were shitty, so all white people today are shitty"
Think about it from a biological standpoint, if a group sharing a trait were to pose a threat, then seeing that same trait in another group would likely provoke a response as well
It's why birds don't like other things flying overhead
sure, but that doesn't make it right to think that way
also sadly sometimes it is better to be mean than be dead
also, in the case of the omnic at first the majority of the omnic would be human killing machines it seems, I mean the first ones after reactivations are all geared for wars against humanity.
also remember most of the older generations in the world is still remembering the war, so people still have that fresh in mind
so Zenyatta, the robot monk who studied with a peaceful, world-renowed spiritual leader, comes up to you and you're gonna be afraid of him?
well, if you wake up and suddenly obama sits next to you would you be afraid?
or mybe at least say Elon Musk.
I mean obviously there are special cases, but for the people in the world for many areas it is still "better safe than sorry" when it coems to omnics
Obama I would probably be more amused
Elon Musk is creepy and I would be afraid
in any case, I didn't say that Zenyatta suddenly appeared out of nowhere, I mean like, you bump into him on the street
Sure in places like numbani youa re fine, and in england the humans seem to be the bad ones even.
but in russia surely it is at war
and even kroea...
and junkertown for sure.
it does depending on where you are, who you are from, and what you know about omnics/zen
and zen is probably way less famous than mondetta to the general public
so you are just seeing a floating guy omnic going towards you no more no less.
oh he floats balls around
so... what makes you hate omnics?
well, it is an intelligent species that has shown to be a massive threat to humanity only a few decades earlier, with elements of ti still at war with humanity, and more increasingly so
in a way you can see end of omnic crisis I as end of world war one... it is mroe like a pause or ciecefire than end of war, and the worse is yet to come.
and if species confilcts obviously i would stand onthe side of humanity.
coexist is good, but only if humanity is ensured to be able to continue
but there is coexistence
not sure in this case
things can blow up at any time
the overwatch timeline is much more volatile than it seem
mroe like the quiet and peace after first world war as I say, maybe without the great recession
but yeah, you can see the fuse burning, esp in the russian front, and it is spreading.
there was fault on both sides for the world wars, though
yes, especially the aftermath of world war one
which is extremely similar to the terms the omnics are having as the losing side, it seems. though we dont ahve enough info on this.
I am not saying a robot hitlerr on the rice, but you know something abd is going to happen
also there is another concern
in reality omnic is superior relative to humans, the smart models at least.
in this case by natural selection it is a matter of time humans should be replaced.
now as humans, obviously it is better cheat and whatever it takes than being phased out.
is it?
@limpid agate what other flags are in?
Not sure
Checking now
@lofty meadow Shitposting will result in a loss of access
Netherlands
Italy
Spain
Romania
Portugal
New Zealand
Jordan
Israel
Ireland
Finland
Denmark
Beligum
Austria
Argentina
Also a Meteor spray
still no Iraq? despite Oasis?
Countries with in game representation still missing flags are:
India
Nigeria
Iraq
Thailand
and on the other hand
Netherlands, Romania, Israel and Argentina?
these feel a bit out of left field
pretty sure they've been in OWWC
Italy, Jordan, and Irealand I expected
The large dump of the rest though
Is surprise
that's... disappointing
ok just making sure
flags as icons are something we can have a bit more of, though I understand adding only a small amount each event.
I men it takes minimal effort to make for most of them, and you get lots of people happy
so it is a win-win-win for the msot part
O SHIT we've got a Canada flag now!
Busan looks...
Kinda ordinary
They have the hypertrains there too
The only other thing of note is how big of a celebrity DVa is
Epic Skin when?
maybe they don't want to add too many flags at once so that they're easier to get? idk why they can't just let you buy avatars
they didn't add any in year 2
also what you said and also they should be in normal boxes
but that's not a lore topic
Something language-related I wonder about
In universe are some of the characters also known by their translated names
Like is Widowmaker also called Fatale in French
@frosty shell In the French version, it seems like she is, yes.
And Roadhog is 'Turbo-Hog' in Russian.
And he's 'Chopper' in French.
But in-lore is she also called Fatale
It's hard to say
Maybe the French police called Roadhog and Junkrat Chopper and Chakal
Not a bad idea
We haven't gotten any in-universe articles that aren't in English
Well, we did see "Overwatch attaca"
We also got Quien es Sombra
But apart from that no heroes that I know of
Fatale is the only name I can think of which is different in the native language
"Widowmaker" has more meaning
And it was supposed to have been given out by Talon
album with the few interesting things i gathered from the busan gamefiles
which is really not much
but you'll get a good res on the dva billboard, in case you wanted one
oh I just why shes called widowmaker oops
lol
so many people were complaining that "Wrecking Ball" was too literal of a name and he should just be called Hammond in the game
I'm surprised nobody brought up Widowmaker's name being too literal
I'd sell my soul for proper zenyatta lore
I think we all would
Skin when
screw the skin, give us a D.Va stream
complete with OW-universe ads
a first-person pov stream from her meka as she fights the colossal omnic, and suddenly a gorilla, a girl that moves crazy fast and two knights show up to fight it too
Weird
The korean says “Nano Cola”
English just says “Nano”
Also pls no more dva skins
Ty
DVa is pretty average when it comes to skins
Hanzo and Winston are the only launch characters with less
Everyone else has the same or more
And her only extra epic skin is the very first
She’s just overly popular
I wish Winston had cooler skins
His best one is yeti imo and that was from ages ago
Catcher looks good tho
I know is wouldn't work game play wise but we need a baby Winston skin
you're right, that wouldn't work
We could have parent winston
With a baby winston on his back
Like real gorillas
normally the mother carries the child but ¯_(ツ)_/¯
No. Winston was raised by a scientist.
So make a Harold Winston skin for Winston with a baby Winston on his back.
Or better yet we could have an origins type skin for Roadhog and he could have his mask off, or an origin Junkrat were he looks normal and not like he just blew someone up
heroes that don't have an "origin"/flashback/younger skin: D.Va, Junkrat, Lucio, Roadhog, Zenyatta
I'm being a bit generous, including things like Ecopoint for Mei and Lunar for Wrecking Ball
Would be fun to see pre-radiation hog and junk. I doubt hog has always been that fat.
And zen, well he would look just as old as he does right now, only his clotheswould change
pretty much
and zen, would probably walk
since he seemed to have picked up levitation after meeeting the shambali
I'd love to see D.Va get a military uniform skin with a prototype meka
and Lucio pre-rebellion
That'd be dope but she already has quite a few legendaries
And since she just got one it's doubtful she'll get another soon
getting a legendary doesn't rule you out for getting one again
McCree got Lifeguard in Summer Games 2017 and then Van Helsing at Halloween
it would be most appropriate for the Archives event though
How far in the past is archives exactly?
Hammond got his "past" skin in the form of the lunar duo skins
I mean relative to where the current lore is
it varies depending on the event
Retribution happened 8 years ago, Uprising happened 7 years ago
this is counting from Recall as "present day"
Has dva had her mech for 7 or 8 years?
. . . I'm pretty sure that's racist, Acid
^
Who said anything about race
but considering she's only 19, it can't be too long
!warn @dapper kernel Keep the racist jokes out of this server. It's absolutely not appropriate
👌 Warned Acid#6381
Toxic
I hope the Korean army wouldn't be recruiting underage pilots for their project
I didn't ask for your opinion. I told you what to do @dapper kernel
Neat
she probably got recruited recently, when she turned 19
An opinion doesnt have to be asked for tho, I present my opinion where I please
Thx
@dapper kernel if you have an issue with the rules then take it to modmail. I won't tell you again
Cool
It'd be interesting to get an exact age. I wonder if the Korean military picked her up as part of the program right at 18
Maybe they had her in mind before then?
according to a quick wikipedia search, modern day South Korea has conscription for compulsory military service at age 18 (mandatory for males, optional for females)
so maybe they could have recruited her at 18, and she was patriotic enough to enlist
It seems kinda weird that this professional gamer would drop her career for that though
And what part of RTS games transfers to piloting a mech that doesn't have to reload?
Seems like there are better people for the job
more qualified I should say
It’s military service is a mandatory 2 year minimum between 18 and 35
the game she was famous for (not Starcraft) was probably very similar to meka piloting
I didn't know that about South Korea
So you can choose when you join? One person can enlist at 18 and another can enlist right before turning 36? And what happens if you don't enlist?
This isn’t lore related so I’ll keep it short
Basically after you become 18, makes are required to enlist in the korean military for a minimum of 2 years service. This must be completed before you turn 35. So you voluntarily enlist any time between the ages of 18-35. If you don’t complete this service it’s a crime and you will face legal repurcussions
There are specific exemptions for athletes (and other special roles I believe)
interesting
but the military wouldn't recruit/accept enlistment from anyone under 18?
so D.Va can't have been a meka pilot for more than a year
I feel like a lot of the hero stories are things that happened relatively recently in the OW timeline
D.Va being recruited by MEKA, Lucio's rebellion against Vishkar, Zarya ditching the competition to fight the omnics
there's some obscure hints that make me think Lucio's rebellion actually happens after Recall
I'd kill for anything that helps clarify the timeline
also, we were talking about official non-English lore
I forgot about the emails from the Sombra ARG
but again, those don't mention any hero names
I don’t know much about the lore tbh
But I know enough to know Michael Chu is ass
I heard they recruited a new writer though, I’m keeping an optimistic outlook
Michael Chu does not deserve most of the hatred he gets
the lore he writes has been mostly consistent
people blame him for things he wasn't responsible for
shitting on Chu has basically become a meme
i mean if you're the face of lore in a game that has as little of it as OW does while being a game that BEGS for well written lore and depth then you are responsible
the game has been out for like 2 years now and there's so little established, readily available lore
you have to watch cinematics, cutscenes, listen to voice lines, read obscure comics and snippets from the universe
lore shouldn't be hard to come by
if you have a game with the potential that OW does and you don't provide at least some semblance of structured lore that is easily accessible you are doing the game an injustice
To play the other side
Lore not existing makes sense
When was the last time you paid for lore?
How much did you spend on the 16 comics?
Or what about the 9 cinematic shorts?
The Plan? The Doomfist Anime?
The way I see it, those were ads to have non players buy the game, and players buy merch
The videos dont even get Youtube ad revenue because they dont have ads
also everytime they release a comic or a short, they have hundreds of websites and blogs and all that jazz talking about and praising the game
it's an ad campaign, in the form of quality art
if it's free, you're the product
And when was the last time you spent money because of a trailer or comic?
Even if it can be chalked up to ad revenue
Releasing shorts outside Gamescom/Blizzcon is sure to be a loss
Blame whoever killed First Strike
he just writes it, and someone else (someone corporate) decides what gets put out
