#Dual Wielding

It's more likely that it would be a single item weapon set than two fully-statted one handed weapons.
^^^
If anything it is likely just a two handed dual weapon.
Alternatively I could think of a shield-slot item that is just an off-hand weapon. But I doubt they let us equip two one-handed swords.
Perhaps not even that. I assume the animation the character uses is entirely depending on the main hand weapon?
Sooner or later, the option to dual-wield will be available if enough players request it. Unless the developers push the engine to its limits, they need to recognize that AoW4 isn't an "eternal" project. They should seriously consider adjusting the engine accordingly if they can't fully implement dual-wielding.
I'm sure it will. The current and previous games both have dual wielding units. I'm just not sure if, from a balance standpoint, two fully-statted one-handed weapons is wise. That's a lot of weapon infusions augmenting the attacks.
That is why I said that if having 2 statted one handed weapons is not balanced, they could get some passive to penalize any hero that tries dual wielding like for example -1 defense and -1 elemental resistance or something like that
It would be easier and less convoluted to just make them a single item.
Well I wouldn't mind that as well, as long as it gives the choice to have 2 swords, 2 maces or 2 axes
well, there are always some options, like making effects less likely to happen when dual wielding.
But yeah, probly the most robust version would be just to have them as a separate 2-handed weapon option
Devs already stated they aren't going to do two separate one handed weapons as a form of dual wielding.
However, they do seem amiable to the idea of a single weapon dual wielding weapon.
Kinda like the sword and whip, or the Sword and throwing dagger. Where its 1 weapon.
On a somewhat similar note, I'd like an offhand dagger weapon that functions purely as a shield. It doesn't help with dealing damage, it is imply another way to build a defender class hero, but this one with a more agile look to them. The dagger would otherwise have the exact same bonuses and forge traits as a shield.
Tbh two 1-handed weapons can only mean two things:
Their attacks combine into some unholy busted abomination
You get 2 different attacks, which gives versatility, but you lose power from having actual shield or 2 handed weapon
Both come with severe balance issues
However, i would like more offhand options than just shields
Parrying daggers, dueling cloaks, pocket sand
Battle fans
The defensive and utility stuff that isn't just a shield
Religious symbols like censers for more cleric vibes for our battlesaints
Though a censer might be more of a mainhand thing like a flail
I'd definitely be down for a censer or religious book too. I'd be fine with them being identical to shields with everything but appearance. I just want a defender for the character archetypes that aren't just the heavy warrior.
I mean it would be kinda interesting if you equipped a censer/religious book/tome offhand that acts like a shield except it provides +3 Resistance from frontal attacks instead.... Would specialize your defender more against magic damage units, including battle mages and what not.
Oh, I'm not saying it wouldn't be cool to have some unique effects for an off-hand parrying dagger / censer / book, I'm just saying the bare minimum of even putting them in period would be awesome.
Cool idea but how would this exactly work? Give a free action attack? A small damage increase?
Multiple ways, really.
A free action attack with maybe a 1 turn C/D wouldn't be bad.
Alternatively, could take inspiration from the new dual wielding unit in AOW4 from the Nomad Conqueror faction and give it a charge attack with less damage than a dedicated 2 hander in addition to having a repeating attack for a more flexible Weapon type.
Could just be a repeating attack weapon that does a bit more damage than 1 handed weapons.
I actually made a section specifically on dual axes here lol #1471563656796962989 message
Trading off some damage for versatility wouldn'
t
be bad. Cause you can always choose between doing repeating attacks or retaliation/Defense mode cancelling on your hero.
