Centaur Kings, Songs of Love & War

From forgotten meadows, ruined groves, and silent plains, a melody refuses to fade… and a legend rides once more.

Centaur Kings introduces a new ruler origin: the last royal heir of a people long thought lost. The age of the centaurs faded centuries ago, their courts scattered, their songs nearly forgotten. Yet one monarch still rides, carrying the memory of a royal lineage that refuses to vanish.

With every victory, the satyrs of the wandering court compose new verses of the Songs of Love and War—ballads of battle, loyalty, passion, and fate. These songs travel far beyond the battlefield, awakening echoes of a royal past.

And sometimes… the songs call the centaurs back.

The Satyr Court

The satyrs are the keepers of centaur legend. Through your ruler’s skill tree you may summon their musicians to the battlefield:

Satyr Piper — confounds enemies and sharpens allied aim

Satyr Taborer — drives armies forward with thunderous rhythm

Satyr Harpist — shields allies with soothing enchantments

Their melodies stack and intertwine, turning every battle into a living epic.

Songs – A Legendary Resource

Your victories generate Songs, powerful ballads that spread your legend across the world.

Spend Songs in your capital to restore the lost royal presence of the centaurs.

But the past resists revival.
Each centaur brought back requires one more Song than the last—for the age of the centaurs was never meant to return.

#

The Royal Return

As the Songs of Love and War spread across the land, the last remnants of centaur royalty answer the call.

Centaur Archer Retinue
Swift mounted archers who once served the royal courts.
Recruit up to 9 retinue units in your capital.

The Royal Court Reunited

Through the power of song, the royal house gathers again:

The Centaur Queen or King — your long-lost consort

The Prince or Princess — heir to the royal line

The Heir’s Betrothed — sealing the future of the royal house

Up to 3 centaur heroes may answer the call of these songs.

All heroes remain fully customizable and may grow into any combat role.

A Royal Myth Written in Song

Centaur history was never carved in stone.

It was carried by voice, by memory, by music.

Every victory becomes a new verse.
Every romance a new ballad.
Every heir a promise that the royal line endures.

Through the Songs of Love and War, the last royal centaurs may ride again…
or leave behind one final legend for the ages.

The Measure of Song

Among the centaurs, rulers are not measured by crowns, but by the songs that carry their name.

In ancient days, when forests were deeper and the plains still belonged to the wandering herds, centaur kings and queens were more than sovereigns. They were living echoes of the wild—royal spirits bound to the breath of the earth itself.

Their strength was not forged in stone halls or raised by armies.

It was sung.

Every victory became a verse.

Every love a ballad.

Every sacrifice a legend whispered from grove to meadow.

These were the Songs of Love and War.

When the songs spread, the world listened. Winds carried the melody across the plains, rivers slowed to hear it, and the forests stirred as if remembering old allies.

And the monarch began to change.
At first the signs were subtle. A ruler stood taller than their kin.

Beasts gathered without fear.

Leaves trembled in their wake, and faint light glowed beneath their hooves.
But as the songs grew, so did the monarch.

Their antlered crowns rose like the branches of ancient oaks. The air shimmered with the quiet power of the wild. In time, the greatest rulers became more than centaurs.

They became living avatars of the forest, towering figures whose presence could rival even the giants.

Yet the world has grown older, and the age of the centaurs was thought to be over.

But when the Songs of Love and War are heard again—when heroes ride, when hearts are bound, andt new legends spread across forgotten plains—the old magic stirs once more.

With every new verse, the centaur monarch grows.

Not only in legend…

but in power, presence, and divine stature—
until the wild itself rides behind them once more.

#

The Silence

The power of the Centaur Kings is born from song.

Through the Songs of Love and War, their legends grow, and with them the strength of their royal presence. The satyrs sing their victories, the plains carry their ballads, and the magic of the wild answers these living verses.

But there exists a curse that can break even the greatest legend.

It is known simply as the Silence.

The Silence manifests as unnatural zones where sound, magic, and invocation begin to falter. Within these fields, melodies cannot be carried, rituals lose their rhythm, and spells struggle to take form. Conjured beings are especially vulnerable—without the flow of magic that sustains them, their strength weakens and their forms begin to fade.

For most spellcasters the Silence is a grave obstacle.

For the Centaur Kings, it is something worse.

Their power grows through song, through stories carried by voice and memory. In the presence of the Silence, these Songs cannot take hold. The magic that feeds their legend is muffled, and the echoes of their glory struggle to reach the land.

A centaur monarch may still fight with strength and pride, but within the Silence their legend cannot grow.

And a ruler whose legend cannot grow cannot become the living avatar they were meant to be.

For where the Silence spreads, songs cannot be sung, magic cannot be called, and legends begin to fade.

Centaur Kings – Proposal Summary

Introduces Centaur Kings/Queens as a new ruler type whose power grows through legendary Songs of Love and War.

Victories generate Songs, a special resource representing epic ballads of battle and romance.

Songs can be spent in the capital to recruit Centaur Archer Retinues (up to 9) or restore the royal court with up to 3 Centaur heroes (consort, heir, betrothed).

Each new centaur costs +1 more Song, reflecting how difficult it is to bring their ancient people back.

The ruler grows in size and divine presence as their legend spreads, eventually rivaling giants in stature.

The ruler’s skill tree summons Satyr musicians (Piper, Taborer, Harpist) whose magical melodies stack in battle.

Introduces Silence, cursed zones that weaken summoned creatures and prevent spellcasting.

Silence is especially dangerous to centaurs, whose power comes from song and legend.

The DLC blends epic warfare, romance, and myth, rebuilding a lost royal culture through legend.

Songs of Love (Not Just War)

Centaur tradition holds that love and family are sacred forces that bind the world together. Their songs celebrate not only their own kin, but the devotion found among all peoples. When a Centaur ruler aids an allied realm — protecting their families, defending their honor, or answering calls for help — such deeds inspire Songs of Love. Among centaurs, these acts are remembered as beautiful ballads of devotion, proving that glory is not born from war alone, but also from love.

Gameplay implication:
Assisting allies — defending their lands, protecting their families, or completing quests for them — can generate Songs of Love, rewarding cooperation and reflecting the centaur belief that love and family deserve to be celebrated in song.

Example pop-up
“Dear Centaur King,
Among my people we say: your family is my family. Today you proved those words true when you saved my beloved while she wandered through the forest. I have summoned musicians and poets so that your kindness may be sung for many nights to come.”

Centaur Kings could be played in many different ways to earn Songs of Love and War.

Nuptial Wings – A Centaur Royal Tradition

Among the centaur nobility, wings appear only during the nuptial journey. By spending Songs periodically, a Centaur ruler awakens this ancient state of romance and legend, growing temporary wings that carry them across forests and skies in search of their destined beloved.

Much like the nuptial flights of ants in nature, these “Nuptial Wings” mark the peak of love, destiny, and royal courtship. As long as Songs continue to be offered, the enchantment endures; for among centaurs, love itself is a magic powerful enough to lift even the mightiest hooves from the earth.

While the Nuptial Wings are active, the Centaur ruler gains Awe, as their radiant state of love and legend makes enemies hesitate to strike.

Centaur Kings – Concept Summary (FULL RECAP)

Centaur rulers gather Songs of Love and War through different playstyles.

Songs of War come from victories and heroic battles.
Songs of Love come from aiding allies — protecting their families, defending their honor, or completing quests for them — reflecting the centaur belief that love and family are sacred bonds among all peoples.

Songs are spent in the capital, and each new centaur costs one more Song than the last, representing the difficulty of restoring their ancient people.

Songs can recruit Centaur Archer Retinues (up to 9 units) and up to 3 Centaur heroes: the consort, the heir, and the heir’s betrothed.

The ruler’s skill tree unlocks Satyr musicians — Piper, Taborer, and Harpist — whose magical support abilities can stack and shape different strategies.

As their legend grows, Centaur rulers increase in power and physical stature, becoming towering avatars of the wild.

Centaur nobility may also manifest Nuptial Wings, an ancient royal tradition inspired by the nuptial flights of ants. By spending Songs periodically, the ruler and its consort enters a romantic mythic state, growing temporary wings and gaining Awe, as enemies hesitate before such radiant presence..

Dragonfly-style wings might help make the idea more believable, since centaurs have such large bodies.

Centaur Kings could belong to two Fey Courts: the Dream Court and the Nightmare Court, each with cosmetic options reflecting their nature.

#

Centaurs could have Capricorn vibes along some customization options referencing water too

#

Dream Court and Nightmare Court

Centaur Kings may belong to either the Dream Court or the Nightmare Court. This distinction does not determine morality, but reflects two expressions of fae power.

During the state of Nuptial Wings, the Courts manifest their magic differently. Dream Court rulers inspire Awe, as their radiant and enchanting presence makes enemies hesitate to strike.

Nightmare Court rulers instead spread Fear, their wings appearing vast and unsettling, causing enemies to recoil before their terrifying majesty.

Both Courts use the same Songs and share the same mechanics; the difference lies in how their mythic presence affects those who behold them.

My favorite is the basic look for a Centaur King, and I don't think wings should be there for centaurs in early game playing as one.

🐏 🐂 ♊ 🦀 🦁 ♍ ⚖️ 🦂 🏹 🐐 🏺 🐟 Would you like centaur kings to be more diverse and be called Zodiacal Exarchs? or Astral Signaries.

Seems a new ruler type that could be deeply beloved by a large base of players.

The following is a list of physical forms, based on zodiac signs:

  1. Aries: Ram Lord (Ram or humanoid body with large, curved horns and goat legs, could be eefreet ram demon-like).
  2. Taurus: Bull Lord (Minotaur or lamassus body).
  3. Gemini: Twin Lord (A single hero who summons a spectral "double" or a magic mirror that summons spectral champions).
  4. Cancer: Crab Lord (Body with a crab shell and heavy pincers instead of hands, this, crab hands have been wanted for some time by a part of the community, its power could be grabbing an enemy and walking back after attacking).
  5. Leo: Lion Lord (Lion-centaur body or just a lion or a wolf to choose from, some peoole would like to play as an alpha prideful wolf or lion with 100% beast kook).
  6. Virgo: Celestial Lord (Double Winged angel, so many wanted astra wings, or could be a dryad like ethereal form surrounded by purity runes).
  7. Libra: Justice Lord (Iron/automaton body or a being with multiple arms holding scales, who doesn't want this!).
  8. Scorpio: Scorpio Lord (Scorpion or Spider body, with a poisonous tail or multiple arachnid legs).
  9. Sagittarius: Centaur Lord (The classic form: half-human, half-horse, specialized in archery).
  10. Capricorn: Goat-Whale Lord ("Sea Goat" body: goat torso and fish or sea serpent tail).
  11. Aquarius: Storm Lord (Body composed of water or a giant turtle/sea horse animal becauae why not).
  12. Pisces: Water dragon or Abyssal Lord (Mermaid body or a chimeric creature with bioluminescent scales and fins).
#

This new Ruler Type would center on Zodiac-themed archetypes, offering a highly diverse visual identity. While each subtype might be slightly more specialized (less flexible) due to the sheer variety of signs, they would share the core mechanical foundation of the previously discussed Centaur Kings.
I believe this approach should offer greater depth in its subtypes than current rulers, providing a sense of completion to many fan-favorite themes. The Zodiac is a globally recognized and beloved concept; implementing it would allow players to fulfill specific fantasies that are currently missing, making the world feel even more personalized and complete.

#

Zodiac Exarchs/Centaur Kings: Songs of Love & War+Tome of Centaurs (new ruler and tome for season 4)

#

Zodiacal Exarchs could unlock their Astral Signaries and summon a spouse, etc from same subtype like him by creating more songs of war and love.

#

Inspired by Eldritch Sovereigns, the Zodiac Exarchs are a specialized Ruler Type where each sign defines the leader's physical form and tactical role—from arachnid Scorpios to centaurian Sagittarians.
To maximize depth, their skill trees culminate in a 'Final Ascendant Power.' Players can cross-specialize by choosing an Ascension skill from a different sign, enabling unique hybrid builds like a venomous Scorpio with Aries’ ferocity or Pisces’ ethereal mobility. High visual flexibility, deep tactical synergy.

#

In ancient times, particularly within Judeo-Christian and Mesopotamian traditions, prophecies were frequently delivered, declared, or recorded in song rather than merely spoken or written. Songs of love and war would still be a mechanic.

Stop bumping and necroing your own posts bro.

The devs have had plenty of time to see it and take your ideas into consideration, having them at the top of recent doesn't make them more likely to get added

adding new thoughts that enrich or evolve a suggestion is not necroing or bumping a post, and I don't post anything as frequently now

If you want like actual feedback on the new stuff it has the issue of adding like 10 new body types would lead them to be lacking in visual options.
