#Terrain adaptations should be society traits

They feel like they 'cost' too much as form traits, and take away from the racial characteristics, for something that seems like it would fit better as a society trait.

As society traits, they could lean further into an emphasis for favoring that terrain, and also there could be one for each affinity, which would fit. They could all grant some stability and a resource for each province you control of that terrain type, which would echo back to previous AoW races having preferences for certain terrain.

For example, what if each one granted +5 stability per province with the preferred terrain in it (effectively negating the natural stability loss from acquiring provinces), and then gave some resource associated with the affinity, on top of granting the existing benefits for adaptations?

Order: Plains Adaptation (Gold)
Chaos: Desolate Adaptation (Draft)
Nature: Forest Adaptation (Food)
Astral: Desert Adaptation (Mana)
Materium: Underground Adaptation (Production)
Shadow: Arctic Adaptation (Knowledge)

Society traits have even more opportunity cost than form traits, and moving adaptations to society traits would greatly reduce the build variety when taking an adaptation

#

Also, Primal already does adaptations with further emphasis on the favored terrain

This would very much step on Primal's toes

Terrain preference shouldn't be the purview of a single culture anyways. In previous entries ALL races had their preferred terrain types, in addition to their racial characteristics. Primal's strength would be the same as it is now: It gets it as a bonus freebie without taking up a slot somewhere else.

My first point still applies

Only if you ignore the fact that I said it would give them room to expand on the impact it has, which would make it fit the value of a society trait.

They expanded on the impact it has with Primal

Already addressed.

A single point form trait is the highest flexibility place for this feature

Not even remotely? The impact of terrain preference in previous games was way too substantial to ever fit into a form trait without it costing way too many points. People complained constantly when the game released about how the adatpation traits were little more than cosmetic because of how little it actually mattered. It's improved, but not by much. Making them society traits would give them the space to make them actually have a noticeable impact.

I still see threads and comments constantly asking for it to be moved to its own category because so many players think it should be more relevant.
