I just finished a game, boring as ever, and i wasn't really thinking much until i sieged this very last throne city. To my surprise they pretty much annihilated me: it was a game mode of multiple casting and the AI could defend their city exceptionally well. So i went back to the turn before and made some actual changes to my army setup and waited one more round.. anyway the AI just left their throne city with their 5 army stacks to clear my one unit that was standing on a province improvement.
Got their city for free and instantly won the game =/

I agree the AI does some wierd things with city defense/offense right now and needs improvements.
But, you might be less bored if you didn't save scum so you always win. Just throwing that out there. That's not something they can fix.
