I died during combat with a two turrets on the 3rd island (clockwise from and including starter island). When i click respawn on ship i was respawned at the lcoation of my death, but everything is now in black and white. I loaded out to the main menu and the colour returned.

It's the secret Kurosawa mode! Restarting is the best call--if you die while this is active, you will respawn where your body is. While it saves you a run-back in most situations, you can stuck in a loop if you died by falling into the clouds.
