If you are F2P your best bet is to wait for lucky copies and update your wishlist often. Also make sure to utilize the bonus standard recruits (alice, liter and naga, you can MLB 1-2 of these before you exhaust the event) I wouldn't spend my gems and tickets on MLB attempts of banner characters. That is whale territory.
