If you add a jumping jackal buff thats +2 buffs, so 5 already.. If it has Noah that is another +1 buff if she somehow gets hit and land the 10% S1 buff before the dispel. If its has a Noir, another +1 buff

Well its usually those linked who has on entry buffs need lvl 7 S1, to ensure jumping Jackal distributed portion buff gets dispelled at least

Let's take my Mana for example as a random example for stats since she's a recent screenshot on my phone.
16.67mil HP
730k atk
111k def

Lets say Mana was MPrivaty that did 1000% damage on burst.
1000% of 730k atk is 7300k dmg, before any buffs are applied. Now subtract the 111k def value from this. You get 7189k. Give your target a +50% def buff, so now it's 167k def. Your 7300k damage now becomes 7133k. You managed to reduce the damage taken from -1.4% to -2.2%. And this is before factoring in any buffs.

This is why def sucks and the def cube sucks. Go for damage reduction or max HP instead.

The Nikke damage formula is weird and very not conventional

Whoever originally implemented it clearly didn't play many games before or made some implementation mistake and never bothered testing it with real numbers

Defence is a flat damage reducer instead of a pre-multiplier attack reducer. Crit damage is also an additive multiplier with other multipliers instead of a final multiplier. It's all sorts of weird.
