I Chose You Over Heaven

This world, doomed as it’s meant to be—
For the tears that fell long before me.
Even the devil knows the anger that burned within,
Summoning barricades that rose before my skin.
Yet your screams shattered every soul that stood in its way.

Damn the sun that dares to stare—
Something that was ours to keep.
Damn the moon that dares to listen—
Something that was ours to keep.
Damn the earth that dares to split apart—
Something that was ours to keep.

For not even heaven has witnessed
The depth of devotion I’ve reached.
I’ll carry the pieces—your scattered shards—
If you’ll let me read.
I’ll bury the hurt before it finds you,
If you’ll let me read.

May the world burn until it opens,
May the sun ache until it falls.
May the moon cry through unspoken winds,
May the stars bleed till they’re swallowed whole.

For if that’s what you need, I’ll burn this world wide open.
I’ll walk the sun to the end of what it’s woken.
I’ll cry with the moon—no words spoken.
I’ll bleed with the stars till I’m battered and broken.

And even now, I’ve never said this aloud—
“I love you,” as far as the stars can count.
As a friend, as a foe, may the world never know.
I’ll bury the ones who dare to stand between,
If it means I’m still standing by your fight—
Right now.
