*I sit again to write
The fact of my demise,
And think of the words
That would tell it true and wise.

There once was a star—
In all eyes, shining bright;
That star had someone—
The source of its very light.

It glowed a magnificent glow,
Wherever it fixed its sight;
Whoever it went to see
Would envy its majesty.

It had the perfect clue
That the beauty it beheld
Was to someone else due—
To a dear friend, it told.

For it was a lucky night,
The night when it met
Someone who gave it all
It had of its delight.

But as all in life
Must come to an end,
The luck ran out,
And it lost its dear friend.

Then there came a time—
So unseen, so unwise—
The one who was loved
Was cast from Holy eyes.

Thrown into the pits,
From the very darkness fed,
The star who once was
Then saw its deathbed.

The source that kept its glow
Had vanished in sheer abyss.
Confused, the star then thought:
What took away its bliss?

To this day, and this night,
The star doesn't know—
What did it do wrong?
Where did its light go?

Now the star, alas!
Burned down to its soul,
Has found vice and evil
In a home of ash and coal.

Sometimes in this abode,
It does remember still—
The glory it once beheld,
And someone behind it.

It doesn't know a lot
But the little it knows is
That somehow it always had
In its heart, darkness ill.

So now it doesn't shine,
Nor does it boast a glow,
But sits in cold demise
Of a murky shadow.

Occasionally do I hear
It crying so loud, and see:
It cries, "Oh Lord, oh Lord,
Please come back to me."*
