Dear devil,
You dragged me to hell.
Every now and then I recall the fall -
No screams, just silence.
Just the sound of breath rattling from lungs,
And fingernails clinging to obsidian,
Scraping through soil
You never stepped foot on.
I crawled -
I've faced demons and gargoyles,
Until I've seen a bit of a glimpse:
A spotlight so dimmed, I barely spotted it.
I've slept with the crooked and the damned,
Whispered tales with the mouths of sinners,
Eaten forbidden gourmet, and naively bitten.
While you -
Sat on your throne of bones,
With soulless eyes and a fierce so hollow -
It echoed.
You led soldiers
Who cowered as your feet stomped
The very ground you presume to rule.
Standing tall,
With an arm ahead -
Righteous and famed.
And I, of three ranks that you seek,
I, the bottom of the pyramid.
You made me witness the groom convulse
As the chalice of glass slipped and tore,
And the woven string being cut
By scissors, you claim you've never touched.
Still, I've seen you kneel to their will.
And though I may not be heavenly -
Not god-powered, divine, or celestial -
I've seen sublime clandestine.
You stole my spine,
So I have no such to lean on.
You stole my legs,
So I have no such to escape.
You stole my arms,
So I have no such to lead.
And so you cannot add me,
You cannot add me to your throne.
And the Armageddon you seek to summon,
Behind your gates, sealed from beggars,
Will collapse, just as you are damned to be.
For your angels have been ablaze.
Death upon the crow hanged -
Necks snapped by sins fined -
Yours, and truly mine.
But your throne will fall.
And for such, I will not.
For I am not of greater blood.
And by fact -
Humans cannot scale the morals of black and white.
And so you shall be:
Alone,
Forgotten,
And barely pettied.
