#A Tulip

I adored a tulip once—
During the glorious concordance of may;
Flowers fell in countless patterns
Across park crosswalks that sprawled
In every imaginable direction.
But that one daisy caught my eye,
And I swore in a moment I’d hold it in my palm—
And I did.

But seasons change and flowers wilt,
And after spring those flower patterns altered.
Summer came and the air grew hotter,
So daisies bloomed and tulips faltered.
My flower cried and our passion died—
Our sidewalks cracked and our routes didn’t align—
Our crossroads failed and drew parallel;
So I left my tulip on a sidewalk
And watched it soar south on a springtime breeze.
I took a northern route, to colder weather,
Where every hopeful tulip would hopefully freeze—
And where only perennial flowers could bloom—
For I never wanted to lose another.
