Hello! I’ve always loved and been interested in poetry but i don’t know where to start. I’d love to write my own stuff but when I do it doesn’t seem good enough.

Any tips for a beginner beginner would be much appreciated!!

Here are my tips:

  1. write down what you wanna say and what you want the audience to feel.
  2. decide on a main theme (like love, death, discrimination)
  3. decide on form (either go with free verse which I recommend for beginners or use other forms like limericks, ballads or odes.)
  4. decide on techniques you want to use (like assonance, alliteration and such. Look it up)
  5. write, write and write
  6. leave it for a few days then come back and edit it (I suggest reading it aloud)

And there you have it. A jumble of words and sentences anyone with half a brain could call a poem.

Hope it helps

I agree, look some techniques up! If you want to learn rhyming and metered poetry, I can help (I think)!
