The first time I heard the jets fly over it scared the crap outta me but then I started thinking.....It would be really cool to see an air drop, maybe they drop some flares on POIs or something when the military jets fly over. Also to add on it in the future the jets prove that somewhere the military is still active so maybe in the future you can add non-zombie characters around the map including a fully operational military base but make it where they either shoot you on sight or you have to provide materials to get in so its not just run to the military base and boom you won the game. It would also be cool for survivor outposts to be scattered around some with survivors who you could trade with or rob from. I dont know how you would do that but thats my idea.
#Military Jet Air Drop

Also for the air drop maybe that could be a cool way to introduce some new guns and armor etc. Maybe even something you can only get from the air drop. that would be cool asf
NPC's are on the roadmap. Airdrops could be version update specials.
They're military jets. What if they're more interested in killing civvies to contain the outbreak than helping any civvies that might be trapped in quarantine zones?
Honestly, the air drop thing is being done to death in survival games. I'd just as soon not see carbon copies of mechanics implemented by rote permeating this one. What I'd like to know is what's going to set it apart from the crowd? Anything?
The jet is actually a Transformer
Identifies as "they"
Would be more immersive to get just medical supplies from them, also would make the impossible loot difficulty a bit less unforgiving if you make a stupid mistake and get hurt.
this is a very good point. aslo i have not completed the game at all ive only done the first several hours then i have to restart bc my save files dont load but thats another issue. I dont know about the big boom although now im really interested. But back to this point I think that could be a good idea. maybe instead of an airdrop maybe they roll through every once and a while just killing civis and destroying bases and stealing resources
I just think it would be cool to interact with the military in a story driven way that also isnt just them dropping you on sight
where should i go to find an NPC? (you can keep it a secret but give me a hint lol)
No npcs in yet, also no ending as it's a sandbox
There are no NPCs yet
That's a road map plan, same as quest lines
There currently is no real end game which would be to be completely sufficient off grid
There is a lot of work to get there
As there are no NPC, you either make due by cosplaying or you try and find all the various things the game offers you to try and do.
Vein is primarily a survival game but has a huge penchant for storytelling by introducing POI and other things you'll only know if you take the time to explore
But seriously; when you hear a big boom, go looking for that
Actually I really like that idea (air drops) a lot. Makes perfect sense of what could happen in an apocalypse situation and the idea of the game/environment interacting with the player really goes a long way for immersion. I would give it three thumbs up but I only have two. Awhile back I also made the suggestion of having the pilots comms briefly interfere with any radio or TV you had on at the time. The comms would be mostly broken static but might say something like "Recon One to base, civilian compound sighted ... static ..."
I think air drops at random aren't well thought out
Who randomly drops stuff without confirmation it'll be used?
I think having to create a communications network would be a key priority, and from that point on it would become a ad-hoc thing.
-
You'd need social credentials/XP in order to call in supplies
-
Supplies should be scarce and if you order things, only partials should arrive (scarcity loot could play a role in this as well)
So though you asked for 20 soup cans, they could only afford to send 12
But on standard you'd get 90-100% of what you asked
If you have a low social score, it'll prevent timely supply runs
Or you might be rejected
Yeah besides to reds might find it first! 😄
You could bypass some of this by looting for ID
Some ID could help unlock better things
The military would likely drop supplies in areas suspected to have survivors.
This could tie into the other suggestion I had about zombies being in larger concentrations where you'd wanna go
A larger container dropping into a house or in the middle of a.forest/field would attract attention
Suspected == a reason
Communication networks would all but ensure it
You could get HAM radios setup on the antenna array
Lots of in game ways of doing this already
Patching into the public phone system
They already broadcast on them
So why couldn't they reuse rhe copper to communicate?
Well that settles it. We're going to have to spend countless hours war gaming out all the possible scenarios creating strike packages and contigency plans for each of them.
Also military =/= government military
It's going to be a mismatch of veterans who'd also survived
Hells ya brother
I'll bring an extra pencil
spreadsheets hard
Ack! Social score? What is this? China?
You have a social skill
It's not been implemented yet
But killing on sight for e.g. could be to your detriment if they add that feature as part of rhe quest lines and markets
Yessss I love that
No not at random thats to much. its gotta be like once every 3 months in game time or something. or you could make it to where you have to fix some radio equipment or even news broadcast equipment and contact the military for support to which they basicilly tell you its to risky for them to bring you to where they are and they arent gonna send any troops bc they cant spare any but they could pull some strings and arrange an air drop. I really love the idea of loot scarcity affecting your order. for the low social score that would be a cool system to impliment as well.
Maybe a good use for the flares???
yes
I like this. The sound of the airdrop delivery draws in a horde. get there get the supplies and fight your way out. good luck.
why not have both groops??? the government is more shady and less helpful but has a lot more resources where the group of veterans could actively be searching for survivors being more helpful just not as many of them and of their resourses.
my personal opinion is we're too greedy and disfunctional to even get a coordinated effort going for most things
im curious to see where the devs bring us 🙂
the further we are from others, the less likely we are to trust each other
been like that for as long as mankind been around
Fallout 76 has an almost identical event where you activate satellite uplinks to get a drop. But the drop also attracts Scorched or Super Mutants and you have to fight your way through them to reach to drop.
I dunno Canada is a long way from everyone but they seem to trust anyone 😄
I think for the social skill it would be cool to see another outpost and maybe they dont trust you at first so they send you to get something for them thats been overrun by zombo boys and when you return successfully they now slightly trust you and your social skill would go up. or maybe you see a small group getting swarmed and you save them now they are willing to come to your settlement and also increases your social skill
Well we're talking about NPC's and quests now. How long did it take Bethesda to add NPC's and quests to Fallout 76?
most humans are to greedy and most humans would also die within the first 48 hours of a zombie apocolypse leaving only the best of the best and also the worst of the worst and maybe a bunch of lucky in betweens
you've not met your share of rural Canadians have ya
lol
shotguns are common here
As they should be. Little did you know you're as American AF 🙂
it wasn't uncommon to hear of ppl going missing between Erie and Huron in Ontario
Presided over by the Enclave's own Modus, so...yeah....
all between the 70-90s
you can only get me so happy already
I made General in just three days! lol
start out small. i for one will wait 20 years if i have to i love this game
there are more guns in america then people......
by alot
yes
yup
there are a lot of canadians who also own guns and dont say sh*t and are 10min from the US border
we know
ikr lol
apparently yall are getting it from us
Had to set up at least one Enclave avatar just because Modus' voice actor is so dang good at sounding innocuous...downright evil. Those pauses especially between pure neutral face and "gleaming personality". {Shudder}
so how many air drops would a military jet be able to drop over time?
you think it would be severely limited?
im confused what your point is lmao if your trying to imply canada could invade America youve lost your mind lol but i dont wanna go into that here lol let us focus on vein
thats just projection
read between the lines
ppl for the last year keep saying lots of stuff coming from your borders, including weapons
well it depends on how you implement it
Oh they can invade. Can't say how it will go but they can.
hence the apparently
I don't think military jets would do the dropping.
they could
it would not go well for them but they could
yeah bush pilots"?
helicopters?
maybe you make it a fleet of jets escorting a cargo plane and the noise draws in a horde
More like the slow, lumbering variety of military aircraft.
Canoes and gliders!
I had a lot of fun doing the Enclave quests. It went pretty fast though.
Not much for the automated, so-called quests, but certainly enjoyed hearing Modus voiceover along the way.
Not the events the main quest line you have to do
as for how often they are to drop the way i see it you got a few options: make it really difficult (but possible lol) to find and repair/build all the parts to fix some radio eqiupment or as someone said earlier any of the various methods of communicating in the game. On top of that make it only in special locations and or times that you can get a response from the military or anyone (different spots and or times for different things) but for the military maybe they make you recover something for them and as a reward they drop an air drop with a bunch of high tier loot and rare items (pls new guns) and this can only happen up to 2 times a year or something
or
Not a fan of FO76, mostly due to the business model. A few gems pop up here and there that actually feel like Fallout, but they're few and far between, imo.
i still think it should be a challange to gather everything you need to get the comms working but maybe you make it to where the military upon finding out there are survivors in the area drop reqular supply drops once a month and after a seletcable amount of time base one being around 6 months later they slowly start to stop
If you played any of the older Fallout games there is one just like it from the Russian perspective called Atom RPG. It's pretty good I had a fun time playing it reminded me so much of Fallout 1 and 2
We're off-topic again, though. Maybe best saved for another time.
If there must be air drops at all, it would be best to make them as unique as possible, imo.
To answer how much can a airdrop hold, the 463L Air Force Pallet can accommodate 10,000 lbs on a 7'x9' footprint and can carry 6 of them in airdrop configuration
I think the air drops should be very rare but have a bunch of really good high teir loot of different kinds
