#Military Jet Air Drop

The first time I heard the jets fly over it scared the crap outta me but then I started thinking.....It would be really cool to see an air drop, maybe they drop some flares on POIs or something when the military jets fly over. Also to add on it in the future the jets prove that somewhere the military is still active so maybe in the future you can add non-zombie characters around the map including a fully operational military base but make it where they either shoot you on sight or you have to provide materials to get in so its not just run to the military base and boom you won the game. It would also be cool for survivor outposts to be scattered around some with survivors who you could trade with or rob from. I dont know how you would do that but thats my idea.

#

Also for the air drop maybe that could be a cool way to introduce some new guns and armor etc. Maybe even something you can only get from the air drop. that would be cool asf

NPC's are on the roadmap. Airdrops could be version update specials.

Also, don't ignore the big boom you hear eventually after that.

No spoilers

They're military jets. What if they're more interested in killing civvies to contain the outbreak than helping any civvies that might be trapped in quarantine zones?

Honestly, the air drop thing is being done to death in survival games. I'd just as soon not see carbon copies of mechanics implemented by rote permeating this one. What I'd like to know is what's going to set it apart from the crowd? Anything?

The jet is actually a Transformer

this is a very good point. aslo i have not completed the game at all ive only done the first several hours then i have to restart bc my save files dont load but thats another issue. I dont know about the big boom although now im really interested. But back to this point I think that could be a good idea. maybe instead of an airdrop maybe they roll through every once and a while just killing civis and destroying bases and stealing resources

#

I just think it would be cool to interact with the military in a story driven way that also isnt just them dropping you on sight

#

where should i go to find an NPC? (you can keep it a secret but give me a hint lol)

No npcs in yet, also no ending as it's a sandbox

Vein is primarily a survival game but has a huge penchant for storytelling by introducing POI and other things you'll only know if you take the time to explore

But seriously; when you hear a big boom, go looking for that

Actually I really like that idea (air drops) a lot. Makes perfect sense of what could happen in an apocalypse situation and the idea of the game/environment interacting with the player really goes a long way for immersion. I would give it three thumbs up but I only have two. Awhile back I also made the suggestion of having the pilots comms briefly interfere with any radio or TV you had on at the time. The comms would be mostly broken static but might say something like "Recon One to base, civilian compound sighted ... static ..."

I think air drops at random aren't well thought out

Who randomly drops stuff without confirmation it'll be used?

I think having to create a communications network would be a key priority, and from that point on it would become a ad-hoc thing.

  • You'd need social credentials/XP in order to call in supplies

  • Supplies should be scarce and if you order things, only partials should arrive (scarcity loot could play a role in this as well)

#

So though you asked for 20 soup cans, they could only afford to send 12

#

But on standard you'd get 90-100% of what you asked

#

If you have a low social score, it'll prevent timely supply runs

#

Or you might be rejected

gray tartan
#

Yeah besides to reds might find it first! 😄

The military would likely drop supplies in areas suspected to have survivors.

You could get HAM radios setup on the antenna array

#

Lots of in game ways of doing this already

#

Patching into the public phone system

#

They already broadcast on them

#

So why couldn't they reuse rhe copper to communicate?

gray tartan
#

Well that settles it. We're going to have to spend countless hours war gaming out all the possible scenarios creating strike packages and contigency plans for each of them.

steep light
#

Also military =/= government military

It's going to be a mismatch of veterans who'd also survived

You have a social skill

#

It's not been implemented yet

#

But killing on sight for e.g. could be to your detriment if they add that feature as part of rhe quest lines and markets

No not at random thats to much. its gotta be like once every 3 months in game time or something. or you could make it to where you have to fix some radio equipment or even news broadcast equipment and contact the military for support to which they basicilly tell you its to risky for them to bring you to where they are and they arent gonna send any troops bc they cant spare any but they could pull some strings and arrange an air drop. I really love the idea of loot scarcity affecting your order. for the low social score that would be a cool system to impliment as well.

my personal opinion is we're too greedy and disfunctional to even get a coordinated effort going for most things

im curious to see where the devs bring us 🙂

Fallout 76 has an almost identical event where you activate satellite uplinks to get a drop. But the drop also attracts Scorched or Super Mutants and you have to fight your way through them to reach to drop.

I think for the social skill it would be cool to see another outpost and maybe they dont trust you at first so they send you to get something for them thats been overrun by zombo boys and when you return successfully they now slightly trust you and your social skill would go up. or maybe you see a small group getting swarmed and you save them now they are willing to come to your settlement and also increases your social skill

Well we're talking about NPC's and quests now. How long did it take Bethesda to add NPC's and quests to Fallout 76?

Had to set up at least one Enclave avatar just because Modus' voice actor is so dang good at sounding innocuous...downright evil. Those pauses especially between pure neutral face and "gleaming personality". {Shudder}

so how many air drops would a military jet be able to drop over time?
you think it would be severely limited?

as for how often they are to drop the way i see it you got a few options: make it really difficult (but possible lol) to find and repair/build all the parts to fix some radio eqiupment or as someone said earlier any of the various methods of communicating in the game. On top of that make it only in special locations and or times that you can get a response from the military or anyone (different spots and or times for different things) but for the military maybe they make you recover something for them and as a reward they drop an air drop with a bunch of high tier loot and rare items (pls new guns) and this can only happen up to 2 times a year or something

#

or

ashen abyss
rich ruin
#

i still think it should be a challange to gather everything you need to get the comms working but maybe you make it to where the military upon finding out there are survivors in the area drop reqular supply drops once a month and after a seletcable amount of time base one being around 6 months later they slowly start to stop

To answer how much can a airdrop hold, the 463L Air Force Pallet can accommodate 10,000 lbs on a 7'x9' footprint and can carry 6 of them in airdrop configuration
