Latest experimental added back in the personal shadow. But your personal shadow constantly blocks the light from the phone/flashlight. It's irregular, not constant. But blocking most of the time.

I noticed this when Lumen is on

#

I have the same.effect if I place an item like a lamp, then move the lamp, sometimes the shadow looked like it was cast through my toon

We run without Lumen. Tried various shadow quality settings. Seems to be something with the position of the lightsource and body position occluding the light.

Not just that I think we might have over did it on the scaling of the shadow

and theres 2

Lumen more or less requires virtual shadow maps to work well. They aren't used in this game, and Lumen isn't fully implemented either. Retest with Lumen off. Does the issue persist?

Clearly the light source is behind the character

You're right my bad. I missed @kind lantern 's post

I did see that my setting was Lumen on. I went ahead and turned Lumen "off", and re-tested. I got the same results with the shadows blocking light. And no...I'm using the headlamp so the light source is not "behind" me. This was working fine until latest patch. Most of my settings are turned onto "Ultra" and this should not be an issue.

Oh that's an annoying glitch

uh oh, you've seen your own shadow... guess that means 6 more weeks of bugs

it is one of the funnier bugs i laughed for a good minute when i saw it

To follow-up. I just made new video. Lumen was off. You'll see my graphics settings, all set to Ultra. The use of the headlamp is bothersome so much that it makes me not want to play. The shadow makes the screen either blink, or I see my head shadow in front of me. I then turned Lumen ON, and same thing still. This is even after the latest patch to #11335

I wonder if it would work better if the lightsource was locked to the character movement rather than camera

#

Btw have you tried the head movement setting? From the video it looks like it's turned off

sonic vine
#

Yes, I had it turned off because it's annoying lol. I did turn it back on to test (didnt show it) as it made no difference.

Yeah i suspected it wouldn't help much but worth a shot still. Guess we can just wait for a patch ๐Ÿ˜…

I can deal with the bugs...mostly...I'm not light sensitive or anything...but this bug makes my head hurt. I can't play. 59 y.o, all I want to do is slay some zombies man...lol...and I have to deal with my shadow out in front of my head lol

Play on days and sleep through nights ๐Ÿ˜…

Meh, I don't want to cheese the game, and I want to help fix this issue

#

I can network, I do cybersecurity IRL, but my programming sucks. I'd love to lend a hand

I'm impatient so i usually try to find a workaround ๐Ÿ˜

sonic vine

Just an aside, I turned both Lumen and Shadowing Off, then tried them both alternatively off/on, and both on. No difference. If anything, I think turning the shadowing "off" made it a bit worse.

Those should not affect this, ambient occlusion is for generating shadows around objects based on how close they are to another object, wall, ground etc. The flashlight casts a dynamic shadow and has different rules

sonic vine
#

This happens to me with the headlamp (as shown in the videos I've pushed), as well as the flashlight.

Good morning! Got the latest patch 11340. No more flickering. Started with Lumen and the shadow depth off, no issues. Then I made the video with both turned on, and as you can see, I'm jumping for joy because no more shadows in front of my face ๐Ÿ™‚
