This way, a trader base or whatever people make on their servers - or for people like me who want a permanent base and still be able to explore - they can choose to "disable upkeep/decay" at a UC for all objects in that area, active when in radius and with sort order, set closest UC (which then displays an X in the upkeep requirements or some other visual confirmation). Any objects in the area should act as if they are having paid upkeep and heal if attacked - tho i'd assume they'd have base damage off on the local area settings (idk if that's a thing, either).
#in addition to "protected spawn" and "no pvp" zones - also add no-upkeep UC flag for admin

I find that upkeep even for my house and garage with only 5 metal doors and under 20 windows, plus around 20 fences and barbed wire, plus all the stations and storage, etc... - it's too expensive for me to run at 1x server speed with 24 hr upkeep cycle.
I can't set up anything in another place as I now have "my castle" but it costs too much to maintain - however, anything less and it's not secure and complete.
I've not even added power generation or storage yet, and am dreading that time.
No respawning loot or furniture - most of the woodland behind the house gone - as a compromise i made it so time stops when no-one is playing on the server.
It's a good survival experience, but I'm not even up with farming - I can't get up with farming as I have no idea how to pay upkeep for everything.
Do I live without fortifications and exposed to danger, or do I starve in the cold and dark in a safe place?
When the resources are gone - it takes only 77.7 minutes for a metal door to decay to zero. It takes 25 minutes for a wood door to decay to zero.
Just over an hour to lose something that took 10 hours to build, because you are missing 1 iron scrap at the turn of a cycle - that's barely enough time to realise.
You could go out and come back to your base being nothing.
77 minutes for my whole metal base to decay to zero (and never die) just doesn't seem fair.
Right now I don't have a suggestion on decay and destruction, I can only ask for a way to turn it off locally - so as to allow further challenges and less drudgery without "losing everything" to one bad day or missing a few day's playing the game.
