I have to agree you should not be able to unequip your item in the same spot you're constantly sorting through the heaps of items you get and you click on it by mistake. Perhaps include one extra inventory area for equipped items on your person so it is clear everything equipped on you and they are not mixed in the general population of your pickups.

the items are only put at the top of lists, if you "add to quick slot", sadly not yet for lock or equip
