I suspect it's because average time is potentially skewed by long games. This at least shows how fast you have been in some games

Seems to me that everyone with a 5+ hour turn timer goes camping for a week 2 days after the game starts. 3-hour turn timers will take multiple cross-country flights. And +2-hour turn timer will promise that they are actually much faster, but will be the slowest at the table by far.
