#AoE damage missing when hitting leg without pelvis
14 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Background
Information on the relevant weapons that will be necessary to confirm the evidence mathematically
Magnetos:
- Level 8
- AoeArmorDmg: 1764
- Aoe has very large radius, so we can just hit the floor to not need to worry about the Direct hit portion. This also hits the left shoulder, so we will need to subtract the Aoe dmg to the shoulder first
- 1 gun was used in the evidence
Rampant:
- Level 5
- AoeArmorDmg: 1250
- Aoe has very large radius, so we can just hit the floor to not need to worry about the Direct hit portion. This also hits the right shoulder, so we will need to subtract the Aoe dmg to the shoulder first
- 1 gun was used in the evidence
Cascade:
- Not shown in evidence, but trust :)
- Same projectile logic as Coriolis, so easy to confirm the same way
Coriolis:
- Level 12
- AoeArmorDmg: 1932
- DirectArmorDmg: 4600
- AoE has very tiny radius, we will need to hit the leg directly and first subtract the direct hit damage
- 2 guns were used in the clip
Evidence
Video Evidence
Magnetos:
- Aoe hits the floor, in range of left shoulder, left leg, but not pelvis. You can see the white bar for the left shoulder bouncing, but not the left leg. Its also obviously closer to the leg than to the shoulder, since its coming from the floor. Dmg was 353 to left shoulder from quite far away (highly diminished due to being far away)
- Aoe hits the floor slightly closer this time, in range of left shoulder, left leg, AND pelvis. You can see the white bar for all 3 bouncing now. Damage was 2067. This is considerably higher than 3 hits of 353 because the leg and pelvis are actually closer to the explosion than the shoulder, so they take a much larger portion of damage. Since the Pelvis was hit this time, the Leg was also hit.

Rampant:
- Aoe hit the floor, in range of right shoulder, right leg, but not pelvis. You can see the white bar for the right shoulder bouncing, but not the right leg. Similarly, its also obviously closer to the leg than to the shoulder. Dmg was 1250 to right shoulder (not diminished at all at this range).
- Aoe hits the floor slightly closer this time, in range of right shoulder, right leg, AND pelvis. All 3 white bars bounce. Damage was 3750. This is precisely 3 hits of 1250 because the damage didn't decrease based on range like the Magnetos did. Since the Pelvis was hit this time, the Leg was also hit.
Cascade:
- Video evidence not shown. Its functionally similar to Coriolis, but larger aoe, so you can test it by just hitting the floor like the above 2 cases.
Coriolis:
Test 1:
- Hitting left leg directly, but not in range of the other 5 modules. Only left leg's white bar bounces. The direct hit and the aoe hit should be hitting the left leg. Does 9200 dmg, equal to the direct hit 4600 twice (2 guns are used). The Aoe dmg is not hitting the left leg at all.
- Hitting left leg directly, but slightly closer to the pelvis. Its now in range of pelvis, meaning it and left leg's white bar bounces. It deals 13837 dmg in total. Substract 4600 twice (the left leg direct hit) to get 4637 remaining damage accredited to AoE across both the left leg and the pelvis. Since the left leg is the one hit directly, the Aoe to it is dealt at 100% efficacy (1932 x 2 guns). Subtracting this from 4637 leaves 773 damage accredited to the pelvis via aoe. Divided by 2 guns leaves 386 damage. 386 Aoe dmg per gun dealt to the pelvis is precisely 20% of the Aoe's max damage (1932), this is due to it being between 4 and 5 meters away from the direct hit impact.

Test 2:
- Hitting the ground all around each leg. Its clearly in range of the legs, but isn't hitting them. This is because its not in range of the pelvis from the ground.

Noricum:
- No video evidence provided due to how much spread the weapon has. You'll just have to trust me 😉
Other Evidence
I will provide other evidence to the CM directly which confirms this another way, in addition to verifying it for Noricum. I'm unable to share it here, sorry.
How does this affect me?
When trying to shoot the ground/leg with these weapons, expect less dmg in general, because their AoE dmg is more sporadic due to this bug.
To play around it best, avoid shooting the lower legs or the floor.
Conclusion
- With these 5 weapons, the AoE portion is unable to damage either leg unless the Pelvis is also in range to be hit.
- For Noricum, the AoE portion is also unable to damage either shoulder unless the Torso is also in range to be hit.
- Don't sweep the legs. 😉
Credit
Big credit to @tacit rain , we were just bouncing possible reasons off of each other until the logic behind it clicked, but all the video evidence & testing is from him, so just think of me as a translator :)
@upbeat shale Here's the bug report I mentioned in our DM with the extra bit of info. Hope it helps the developers, thanks!
