#A bot named ‘niggurath’? You’ve got to be either racist, stupid or both…

I thought I was done with this discord, but I guess not.

How racist do you have to be include the term ‘niggurath’ as one of the bot names? With the amount of gaslighting going on in America these days, this feels like more of that in this game. The fact that this game has Russian roots makes me like this even less. Overt racism is the norm in Russia.

This game is already having a player count issue, like in the first year of being live. You seriously think that making racist bot names is going to help your player count?

Of course, there are tons of blatant racists that play WRF, but I don’t think it’s a smart business move to pander to them, because you are literally shrinking your pie.

Listen, I want to like this game. But racism just isn’t cool. Change that name before more pilots quit over this racist gaslighting.

In case you are completely daft, let me be crystal clear: anything with the four letters ‘nigg’ is off limits.

Use AI better.

it is a reference to shub nigurrath who is the grand parent of cthulhu. however, the name will be changed in the update planned for next tuesday.

Oh sure, since that is such common cultural currency…. Gaslighting.

Should have used Cthulhu’s name, cause most people don’t know any other lovecraft entities and will get the wrong impression from this name.

You're jumping at shadows. A word or name having similarity to a slur doesn't mean it is one, or of trying to evoke one.

Jumping at shadows, huh? More gaslighting. Only Lovecraftian nerds would even come close to getting the reference, yet many phonetic readers would just straight read it.

Glad it’s being removed. Try to victim blame me all you want, but being culturally sensitive is the foundation of a welcoming, healthy game.

Maybe you just want hidden racist jokes? I don’t know nor do I really care.

Maybe I just think that the world becomes a much brighter place when you stop assuming the worst, most racists intent behind anything that remotely resembles a slur.

Don’t conflate ‘assuming the worst’ and ‘dealing with reality’. Racism is alive and strong right now. They love open racist tropes. Seems like you’re ok with them too…

Just sayin’.

I think the world becomes a brighter place when we respect the histories of all the peoples that might be playing the game. That includes being conscious of potential racial slurs inside of bot names. That’s just the way I feel.

If something is named after some Cthulhu lore, you have zero evidence or indication it was done maliciously, and assume it was probably done for racist reasons regardless, I don't know how that could be interpreted in any other way beyond "assuming the worst". You looked at the list of equal possibilities, decided to assume the one with malicious intent, and then got angry and complained about the assumed, malicious behavior as though it were fact.

There's plenty of real stuff in the world to get mad at- it's just not necessary to assume, imagine, or invent bad intent where there very well be none, just to get mad at that, too.

A clarification has been offered about the topic of this feedback post. The bot in question is related to a fictional entity and there is no intention of any negative reference as suggested by the OP. The name of the bot will be changed in the upcoming update on Tuesday. The post is being locked now since its purpose has been fulfilled, to avoid further unnecessary discussion on the topic.
