The Question: Hello! So the Aristocratic Bloodline Sorcery Origin class feature School Mastery grants a spell from a specified school that can be cast without material components, once per long rest. It doesn't count toward number of spells known. My question is this: Even if it doesn't count toward number of known spells, does the sorcerer "know" the spell and are they able to cast it normally with a standard sorcerer spell slot? Or is the school mastery use of that spell more akin to, say, a tiefling's racial ability to cast hellish rebuke, which doesn't mean they necessarily "know" hellish rebuke to cast with a spell slot of the appropriate level. (That's not an exact parallel, of course, but close enough to unpack what I mean.)
In this case, I've got a player with a level 1, human, Aristocratic Sorcerer, who chose Evocation as their preferred school and Chromatic Orb as their bonus spell. **Once they cast Chromatic Orb using their School Mastery freebie, can they cast Chromatic Orb (normally, with all the normal casting requirements) using a level 1 sorcerer spell slot? **
And if not, does that mean that if they want to be able to cast Chromatic Orb using spell slots, that they will have to use one of their Sorcerer Spells Known to do so? I wouldn't think that's the case, since it would (at least partially) defeat the purpose of "doesn't count against the number of spells known."
Thus, the grey area: In other, similar cases, where a subclass grants free known spells, those bonus known spells can be cast normally using spell slots, but those subclass features don't usually grant "free" casts of that spell.
Thanks in advance!!

The spell works similar to the tiefling hellish rebuke feature you referenced--it is a 1/day extra spell the sorcerer gets as part of the bloodline. This feature essentially gives the sorcerer one free spell each day that is outside of their normal list. The sorcerer can't spend spell slots to recast this spell.
