Touch of Magic Tool Teaching
YAYYY! Im so excited. This will probably be my fav channel 😝
Omgoodness yes! I am so lost when it comes to this tool. But some stuff I've seen in videos!!!
Yay!! I'm excited to learn more. So far, I've learned that you can use solid shapes to cover up the black bow on the Minnie ears to create a solid color.
@worn ferry you belong here haha
I will definitely be residing here haha! Desperate to get better at making dresses!
Oh haha, didn't even know this existed xD
Thank you ^^ For all those who would like it; a tutorial + my Lion King dress Create-Along -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jsp8PhoxQZI&t=67s
A tutorial video for the Disney Dreamlight Valley Design Tool. Covering the basics, tips & tricks/frequently asked questions and a step by step create-along on my first Lion King dress.
You can find me on TikTok where I have a small video gallery of all my dress designs here:
https://www.tiktok.com/@lady_janeh
And I post on Facebook in the fo...
So glad I found this channel I'm having such trouble with design
Are you dutch or from any kind of country around it?(Belguim or Germany)
Noticed that you all are using YouTube, that's smart lol. I just set one up to upload my video, I'll remove the Google Drive link I posted earlier. https://youtu.be/P9GugG1qj4Y
Minnie Ear tutorial for the Touch of Magic tool in Disney Dreamlight Valley. This was recorded on the Switch version, but should work similarly on other platforms (hopefully).
Can anyone provide tips on creating gradients? I've been using the little gradient squares, making them large and meshing to the garment, angling them this way and that, but I can't figure out how to make them seamless. There's always a tiny little line between swatches or an overlap. And the layers are proving to be an absolute pain to arrange. I'm used to Adobe and Procreate and finding this to be the least efficient design tool ever 😅
I'm on PC if that makes any difference.
The overlap lines in question:
I am dutch yes 🙂
This is just a thing you need to live with, as a I mention in my tutorial they bug the hell out of me as well, but you just gotta choose whether the small gap or overlap is more offensive at this current time :<
Anywhere from near Rotterdam? You got the R
I know! People have thought I was russian because of my R before, but no, I am from all the way up north in Groningen 🙂
Cuz once you are from the city's with the rolling R you can never get rid of em
I heard the Rolling R the "Nou" "Zo" and the lovely european "Dutch" Accent😆
My Jack Skellington dress is full with those overlaps
Hope it will get fixed once
It's not so baaaddd! The typical dutch accent is so horribad I refuse to be associated with that :p
The R's yes, I can't seem to undo them in whichever language I speak haha
Don't worry i have it too🤣
Design a dress with me! This is how I make dresses based off of an inspo pic. Since I've already done Drizella based on a different dress, this is going to be a pink dress for Anastasia.
Using the Cottage Dress as a base, I start by picking a background color. Even though the dress I'm admiring is brighter, it's got a darker feel to it and adding lighter, brighter shades of pink and magenta to the dark background will allow us to get that feel too.
Starting with the ruffle, I choose a gradient square from the bottom of the shapes menu and select a brighter pink. Then I position it at the bottom of the hem and select the globe. This makes the decal conform to the dress and changes shaping as well. This tool can be tricky because the back has a seam and a tendency to slant. This is the same motif just swapped to the back. You can control this in a couple of ways
The first way is to adjust your angle using the button with the circled arrows. The second is to use smaller pieces as you go around, if you are aiming for a waist band or stripe. One of the weirder things about this tool is that when you've adjusted your angle and you want to duplicate your piece, it shows you a weird placement. It's just a visual glitch, select a different layer and the newly created layer with your second motif will match your first one.
See? it's fine now and you can position it how you wanted.
Every time I want another piece, I will hit the mirror button, select the top layer and move it where I want it, until I creat the peplum I'm going for.
The is the outline of the shape I want. I kind of want this to look like a chiffon overlay to the darker dress, so I will be overlaying more of the ombre squares around the peplum and the bodice.
Following this general guide, I placed these solid squares over them. Then I deleted the lines since I don't know if I'll be able to keep them. Then I continue placing pink squares over the bodice
Using hte light color and the ombre square I can create different effects like this now looks like the sleeve has a light pink overlay. If I were to pick a darker purple, it would look like the fabric had a sheen. Now that I've finished adding the reverse ombre where I wanted it, I'm going back in with my lines to neaten up my peplum overlay thing.
As I bring this trim up around the neckline, it begins to distort, so I have to switch the global button off.
Here's the finished front and back. I try not to stress about having everything perfectly even because the moment your avatar starts moving, the dress will distort. I hope you enjoyed learning how I approach making a dress as a person that sews.
Here's the finished dress with her posing and you can see how the lines distorted.
I'm loving the create-a-longs here (sorry @worn ferry apparently your video is blocked for me 😟) I thought I'd do a labelled picture of the UI since I didn't see anything like it here, I'm no graphic designer or artist but I thought it might help someone with the basics?
If I missed anything please let me know
Oh no! No idea why it would be blocked 😮 The only copyright is Disney stuff itself 😮
Something about Universal Music Group, or UMG?
It's the Wreck it Ralph tune :p Thus just Disney itself, randomly blocking countries? 😮
The weird thing about that Reflect Button is that it doesn't create a new copy of the motif the way the mirror button does. The back position is sometimes odd.
The Global Button isn't a perspective based on the camera, it's applying the motif as if the garment were unwrapped as a flat recolor. This is why straight lines have a tendency to distort, why there's a center back seam, and why the buttons on the cottage dress might not get color when a motif is positioned over their area. (it's a different piece when the mesh is unwrapped)
trick i learned today is using the same motif in different tones in order to create a "shadow" effect for a design ^.^
This was my first real attempt with the touch of magic tool. I really like it
I have no affiliation with this creator (MintyPlush) but her custom design work is amazing.
https://youtube.com/c/MintyPlush
Edit - the YouTube channel creator is @cobalt yoke and the designer she interviewed in the touch of magic design video is @normal bison
Thank you so much to @cobalt yoke and @normal bison !!
This tutorial and interview is an advanced guide for players who already know the basics of the touch of magic tool and want to learn technical, unique styling options from trailblazing designer, Junimo. TYSM for this, I used it to make this jumper and can’t wait to keep using it! 💕
That looks amazing!!!
Ahhhhh TYSM hun!
I love this tutorial! I used it to make this Halloween dress
@cobalt yoke thought you'd like to see this
Oh she’s here! Yay!!
We've been working on figuring out how drop rates and friendship levels/roles work together. Minty's good people.
oOMG! That is so cool! @muted lotus @plucky drift I’m so happy you guys are hanging out here and thank you for the shoutout! For more inspiration look up @normal bison she posts her designs in this discord!
I love your channel @cobalt yoke , and I love @normal bison’s designs!!
Btw, the flower tests may need to be re-done after the next update. I thought they finished balancing them with Scar but they are still on the actively working on list in Trello.
Wow! You just made my morning! Thank you ^+^
I've got a feeling we're gonna see a lot of tweaks while we're in early days so no worries. I can tell you preliminarily that they have really changed mining drops.
Thank you, that's great to hear 💕 i love seeing all of the beautiful designs that people come up with after watching the tutorial, it's truly amazing 🤩
So excited for this thread, I'm kind of addicted to Touch of Magic tutorials 😅 If anyone has any more gradient tips videos, that would be amazing. Still find that aspect super tough!
I made a touch of magic tool tutorial that can show you how to bring back Moana's dress yourself. The video is a step-by-step recreation so that you can follow along and adapt the techniques I used and put your own style into it.
The way I layered the motifs in it could be used for any tiered / layered gown. Hope you enjoy this guide custom clothing guide. https://youtu.be/i3D2xdKFjes
In the October 31st patch for Disney Dreamlight Valley, Gameloft changed the color of Moana's level 10 friendship gift from orange to blue. What do you think of this change?
This advanced Touch of Magic Tool tutorial will show how to re-create the dress for free using the custom clothing menu in DDLV.
Thank you to Braambi for allowing me to u...
Can someone tell me how to fill in a large piece of space you created to be a separate color from the original color chosen? Thank you! 💙
You can't, you either have to change the base color or shove a shape with the different color you want under it
or over it rather ':)
Okay good to know, thank you!
Okay but tips specifically for switch users would be great if anyone has any! I'm really struggling on figuring out the gradient stuff and it's honestly really killing any inspire because anything I have an idea for needs a gradient to complete the look :/
I'm so happy this channel is here!
How often do the flowers reappear?
does anyone have the graphic that shows what all the tool buttons do? I can't find it
This one @halcyon fiber ?
ty!
You're welcome!
That's a really handy post, thank you!
If Lady Jane and Torakon are fine with it, I could even pin it in this channel. (My understanding is that Torakon made the graphic based on Lady Jane's video? If you both would like to give me a ping to let me know it's fine, I will pin it
)
Has anyone made fake collars on the short dresses yet?
I've spent so many hours in ToM tool and I didn't know about this channel before. I've already made 3 videos and I'm thinking about more in the future

Sorry for struggling with camera
My twitter: https://twitter.com/Ewelina87350008
I made this dress which is meant to look liek a dirndl but also t-shirts like this
THE COLLAR!
Im guessing you used circles and rectangles?
I think so? I'll show some options on a the t-shirt dress in a moment.
Peter Pan colar on the t-shirt dress using 4 semi-circles
I got this one using two equilateral triangles and 4 semi-circles
This one is done with two squares turned on point and one large semi-circle behind
Thank you! I want a scholarly look with a little Archimedes on it. These are perfffff @soft terrace
Glad you like it! Theres more variations possible, if you would like to experiment.
THANK YOU I DID THE THING
It looks so good! Happy to help!
Earth Kingdom, Water Tribe and Fire Nation inspired dresses! (The Air Nomad one is a work in progress bc I’m limited on motifs 😭)
ATLA inspo?
Absolutely 🙂
Noiceeee
Now I wanna watch it again lmao
I need to finish Korra then maybe I can make one inspired by her 🥰
Imo Korra's way dark for nickeloden
Honestly yeah it is, never thought of that
I was trying to make blend rainbow but there is a glitch which blends background color too 😞
still looks lovely!
I'm on the switch, I find my game crashes every time I go into the design menu. I haven't tried yet on pc though
I was working on one of Barbie's dress (not done yet) and I accidentally created something like this and I love this effect
Oooh how?
Alright y’all, can someone teach me or tell me how to make an “off the shoulder” look on a dress (or know of a YouTube video explaining it)?
The technique probably has crossover from the video I made with Junimo here: https://youtu.be/RAdjDxDZcW4
Feel free to DM me an image of a dress irl you would like to make and I’ll see if i can help further ^+^

Can someone help me
I need some help
How do you delete it I can’t do anything
Hello anyone
See how on the left you have the + highlighted? Highlight the layer with the snowflake you want to delete
I wanna delete the swirly thing
I don’t see a highlight thing
It’s not working
I’m so confused @weary abyss
I can tell, I'm trying to think of how else to word it but the video guides might be easier for you to understand.
The red line shows what is currently highlighted by your controller/cursor move it down to where the yellow line is.
Now what
Then follow the listed options to delete it
I tried it didn’t do anything
Pressing Y when you selected that layer didn't delete?
No
Then I don't know what to tell you, those are the steps. Maybe try restarting your switch
I’m trying everything I can
Here is a video to watch that might help: #1033408097915519066 message
The Y button for deleting should be on the right joy stick
hey guys i was wondering how your getting those amazing visable clothing layers I'm stumped trying to figure it out
Hi all! I accidentally made this dress and I was wondering what tips you had to make this better?
I was actually trying to make it red and green colors for Christmas but thought it looked better with a purple hue to it.
Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks 😊
This is where I'm at with it now
how do you do gradients?
Can someone please help! How do I get this to stop happening!?
I don't think many people come on this thread 😟 what about when you press Y, is anything clicked in that menu?
I noticed
The same thing happens to me, I don't know how to fix it
@abstract vale it must be a glitch. The same is happening to me, but specifically when I try to design the top torso.
It reminds me of those Magic Eye pictures (also called autostereograms), where when you stare at it correctly you see a hidden image or shape
I thought I was the only one who had this problem… it made me wanna quit making my dress so I did 😂😂😭
I have this issue happening with my designs, too. It seems that either they tweaked the way the tool works or it’s an issue with the tool. Idk if they were messing with it or if it’s an unintentional issue that needs to be reported. It ruined half of my dress designs. I hope they either a) fix it or b) revert it back because it now ruins designs wanting to design the collar of a custom clothing item
Yeah, its kept me from making real nice designs
I wanted to create Belle accurate ball gown, but the motifs limit killed my creativity as always
Hey, does anyone have a video on how to make ribbons with the tool?
all of these designs are so wonderful! thanks everyone for your tips and tutorials 💖
Is there like.. a general tutorial on here for Touch of Magic?
I referenced these videos: https://youtu.be/mhv9kZP1AMk & https://youtu.be/RAdjDxDZcW4
I don't know if you're looking for something specific?

Yessssss this is the best one I’ve seen so far! It explains much more than the others I’ve seen - or at least gets to the point faster😂
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAxg5RugGcY a tutorial on how to make a crop top and tattoos ❤️

Highly requested tutorial!

Is there any way other than manually placing to make asymmetrical beading? Ex: I have a dress with a beaded bodice and then the beading becomes more sparse as it goes down
It feels like the placement is either, one exact spot or tiled, no in between
I'm not sure if anyone is interested but the only thing I can do with the Touch of Magic Tool is making it look like "mesh/see-through" or "skin" but I can make a tutorial. Here's an example with both
one more example with minimal design
If anyone wants to design their own bomber jacket kind of thing but don’t want a pre-made one, using the cardigan and changing it to a jacket color like brown or black works great
How did you do this if you don’t mind me asking?!
Just discovered this channel and I think it's my favourite (I usually live in #spoiler-chat). Thankyou to everyone for a the amazing tips!
How do you do that? Looks amazing
Wish it was this easy on Xbox 😞 it takes forever to make anything and rotating anything is a nightmare! Same with resizing 😞 I've made a few things but they are no where near as nice as the things I see on here 😞
WALL-E loves my Eve backpack!
So do I!
I'd love a tutorial on how to do that. Looks amazing 💜
Made a Bluey tshirt🤣 took FOREVERRRRRRR
1st tine in this chat experienceing information overload. How do I move layers?
I think this is so pretty!
Thank you☺️
Hi
Is there any way I can make my dress sparkly in touch of magic?
I think it would really make my designs look better
Hi friends! 💜
Made a quick handy graphic on how I do my tattoos!
I made this version as I learned a ton from our lovely user Claudia who also shared a video of how she does her tattoos: #1033408097915519066 message
I began to get frustrated with the seams on the shoulders if I wanted to make a T-Shirt using her version..so with the inspiration from Mandini, I've figured out how to do a T-Shirt version with tattoos!
Y’all are so creative. I’m amazed! I struggle with the design tool so much but I’ve never been talented with stuff like that.
My Cinderella’s Maid Dress 👗 💕
Omg this is amazing would love a tutorial on this 😍
My favourite dress I've made so far 😍❤
every time i try to create something this happens the motif cant be made bigger and i so i try and add 3 motifs but they always overlap and get discouraged because it looks bad with the overlapping am i missing something? am i not using it right ?
This is just super!! Did you create a tutorial
I just wish there were tool tips for these icons, I still don't know what the 2 arrows mean
"...not very intuitive" is quite the understatement. I don't believe ToM has changed since the Avatar design demo
What arrows you mean? ✨️
I'd perhaps pop a picture in here and maybe someone can help
Do you think Dreamlight would ever implement codes or QR codes for designs like ACNH did?
The two arrows are the reverse side. On the TOM tool section
Did you make a guide for this? (its like. 3+ months later. so sorry for the ping)
Is there any male tutorials bcs what i see only dress xd

Is the "Basic Crop Cardigan" bugged or smt?
because when i decorate the right sleeve, it gets mirrored on the left sleeve when I exit the editor..
also, if I try to decorate the left sleeve it gets ultra stretched...
does anyone else have the same problem , seems to only be the Basic Crop Cardigan
A lot of people liked my Oogie boogie sofa, so I made a Little video for everyone with a couple tips on using the TOM tools! Hope you enjoy and feel free to tag me in your photos if you decide to make one! 💜 https://youtu.be/9reYFxpGu3k
How to make an Oogie Boogie Sofa in Disney Dreamlight Valley using Touch of magic!
@vale grotto thought you may be interested in helping us revive this old thread! It had gone dormant but we can breathe new life into it 💖
First off I just want to thank the mods for reopening this topic🙂
Ok , I'll do a few explanations of things I made
To start my kitchen table the parts or motifs are
2 flourishes / color is middle between white and black
Cresent moon / found in Celestial / color middle between white and black
Round night sky / found in characters
28 wolf night sky / found in animals
Made table black on black / full gloss / metal turned on
The longest part is increasing the wolf night sky's and rotating to cover up previous ones moon as well as making sure it goes to side of the table.
I imagine if lined the bottom of the image with others you could really make a nebula looking piece really pop that much more.
Once the wolves are in place. Place the round night sky on no increase or decrease necessary unless want and place center.
Then the Cresent you may need to slightly increase to fit the roundness of the round night sky
The flourishes , I went with 2 different ones and placed at the ends of the table.
Hope this really helps anyone as I've been asked by a few.
Remy basic wardrobe
2 Remy motifs holding spoon found in characters
The wardrobe is black /full gloss/ metal turned on
The handles are white / full gloss / metal turned on
First motif , increase in size, place on left center door , and start taking to right door where doors separate. Once image disappears just go back left till reappears.
Right side just like the left , only this time we are going to line up the right side of Remy with the left so it looks like one motif.🙂
As seen on right side of my kitchen
Dress / basic sweetheart strapless gown
2 flourishes / I chose the ones that look like grape vines lol / color middle between white and black
Round night sky from characters
Crescent from Celestial
/ color middle between white and black
23 wolf night sky motifs from animals
The motifs were the biggest issue trying to cover every last bit while coveting the moons. All were full size increased. Just a matter of rotating to get things covered. Enough patience and you can do it as well.🙂
The round night sky I placed on her right side lower front
With Crescent fitting snug with the round part of round sky motif.
The flourishes , increased size full and rotated so length is up and down and tried placing directly on left side from top to bottom.
The flourishes don't overlap , just barely touch without.
This one took me awhile I'll admit but I think it paid off🙂
Looking forward to seeing anyone else's designs and how to. If any thing I make , and someone is interested I'll post it here so others may also enjoy.
Reme basic backpack
14 wolf sky motifs from animals
1 Remy with spoon motif from characters/color white
3 flourishes/ color white
3 colorized Remy from characters
The wolf sky's again , increased size and covered up moons as much as plausible. Leaving only one moon top back of backpack.
Part of trick was taking the wolf night sky to the sides and working so it came out without moons and covered all.
The white Remy with spoon I placed under the one moon I left
2 white flourishes I placed , one behind and one infront of him.
The 3 colorful Remy , I placed towards the bottom of backpack and all in a row.
The 3rd flourish I chose a different flourishes and placed directly under Remy. 🙂
