Tool Upgrades & Unlocks
Royal Tools in Dreamlight Valley are an essential way of progressing through the game, whether it be for gathering resources for questing and crafting, or cleaning up your Valley and removing a pesky obstacle at a bridge!
There are several steps to take when it comes to upgrading your Royal Tools and different Characters in the Valley are here to help you with those upgrades! This guide is here to help break it all down for you, simply and without hassle.
š§āāļø Merlin šŖ
Upgrades Watering Can 
to remove Mushrooms.
- You need to complete all of Merlin's Friendship Quests in order to fully upgrade the Watering Can.
- There are about three different times that Merlin will have you test magic on the watering can before you will have the fully upgraded one.
- You must complete a quest called "A Final Trial" where you will have to make Royal Watering Can Upgrading Ointment. Once made, he will apply it to your Watering Can and then BOOM, upgraded Watering Can to break the big Mushrooms!
**Elsa **
Upgrades Pickaxe 
to harvest Snowballs and break the Ice in Forest of Valor & Frosted Heights.
- This is unlocked shortly after bringing her to your Valley and help her open up a path to her cave in Forest of Valor through Friendship Quests.
- Continue to do Friendship Quests with Elsa to upgrade further for bigger Ice Chunks.
Anna
Upgrades Shovel 
to dig up the Tree Stumps.
- This is unlocked shortly after bringing Anna to your Valley through Friendship Quests.

Unlocks and opens up the Chez Remy Restaurant in the Valley.
- Progress through Remy's Friendship Quests to unlock new recipes, Peanuts and Slush Ice.
š“ **Maui ** š„„
Upgrades Pickaxe to harvest the Coral at Dazzle Beach.
- First time upgrade is for smaller coral only which is done in the Moana Realm. To upgrade fully, you need to continue to do Maui quests and complete "A Tale of Stone and Fire" to break the bigger Coral!
Wall-E š
Unlocks the ability to fix the broken down Garden in Peaceful Meadow.
š§ Kristoff š¦
Unlocks a stall (much like Goofy's!). His Stall will have two upgrades where important resources like: Stone, Brick, Clay, Snowballs, Coal, etc. will be sold on a rotation!
- Complete All Friendship Quests for full upgrade!
š“ Moana š
Unlocks the ability to fix the broken boat in the upper section of Dazzle Beach.
- Moana will periodically go out to sea and catch fish for you! Visit the Fishing Boat often to claim what's been caught!
Which Character(s) Unlock Who?
ā¢ Kristoff unlocks Donald Duck through the Dark Grove Quests in the Forest of Valor.
ā¢ Goofy unlocks Ariel by repairing the broken Boat in Dazzle Beach near Goofy's Stall.
ā¢ Mickey unlocks Minnie through a few friendship quests done with Mickey.
ā¢ Ursula unlocks Prince Eric once you reach Friendship Level 10.
ā¢ Eric unlocks ||Ariel's Feet!|| once you complete some Friendship Quests!
Disclaimer: All of these are done through Friendship Quests. Simply continue to do quests with these specific characters and eventually you will start the proper questline. Story quests should also be completed as there are some requirements & prerequisites to starting Friendship Quests. Happy Questing!
