#Machine Gun Balance

Yeah we're talking about it right now in the meeting
Probably going to be something like that
Cool
we already have threads discussing that here, if you want to check it out
pls no camera shake. It should have bulkier feeling animations to reduce quickscoping capability. Should be powerful niche weapon as sniper rifles. Bad for assault running, good for suppression
Yeah lets talk about all the options
Alternative Non-Recoil Balance Solutions for MGs
- Increased ADS times
- Increased camera shake
- Increased weapon sway
- Some kind of ADS/sway/stamina timer
- Slower time to transition into sprint
- Slower transition time between stances
- Straight up slower movement across the board
I think increased ADS time is a no-brainer
we can definitely do that pretty easily
Slower time to start sprinting from standing position with machine guns, some kind of bulky feeling to make it immersive would be nice
Could honestly probably just also decrease movement speed completely
like you're just straight up slower
To get speed differences, other classes should also have them which
is another thing
ARs would still dominate because game favors fast rush rather than controlled positional gameplay, where suppression and area denial would matter more
7 point is a big nono, any class should run at the same speed since the game is supposed to encourage to play as a team and in coordination. Being able to reposition faster than others and vice versa can be a huge advantage or disadvantage, depending on your class. It would make some classes either OP and preferable than the others, or useless. Considering the actual "rush" meta, that would only make the gameplay more arcade-ish than what it is now.
I feel we should increase the aiming deadzone. So the weapon handling feels more floaty. That with a heavier recoil will definitely make the weapons more punchy and would require more skill to use but more fun to fire for sure
For me, the heavy machine guns aren't a problem. The reason for that is simple, i.e., the OP sniper class, especially as they also have the added benefit of the 'lean' function. This means that not only do they have the most powerful and deadly weapon in the game, they can also render themselves practically invisible from distance while using it. No heavy machine gun, regardless of how much recoil the weapon has/doesn't have, stands a chance against a foe like that.
I'd genuinely appreciate it if you'd give server admins the ability to disable classes on their server, which would not only add to the excellent customisation features of the game, but also to the enjoyment of it too.
so
when we do this next update
we're going to have support for requesting kits off of ammo crates
which will also include support for making some kits ONLY be available from ammo crates
might cut down on the sniper spam
It would definitely help, thanks for that. Some players might think that giving server admins the ability to restrict kits and classes would restrict the enjoyment of the game, but nothing could be further from the truth. This is because, as we saw in the classic World War 2 shooter, "Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory", new types of servers actually appeared as a result of this, e.g., we had 'rifle-only' servers, no heavy weapons at all, not even MP40's or Thompsons. Then, one of the most popular types of servers appeared, the 'sniper-only' servers which also spawned a new generation of map-making.
maybe we should do the custom server thing
where we split servers like how Squad does
fuck me I'm gonna vote for it
ANOTHER POLL BOIS
These new sniper-only maps were smaller and the snipers would fight to be 'King of the River Gorge' or 'King of the Trainyard' etc.. You couldn't cross into enemy territory, you fought at distance to be the last sniper standing.
Of course it would restrict enjoyment from the game of players who hate that. Forced to play class you don’t like, without weapon customization, not good
You just don't get it, do you? What I've suggested actually increases the variety in the game where, due to server customisation being available for server admins, so that everyone's tastes can be catered for. It actually increases your player-base and improves the game and community for the vast majority of players. If you see that as being a negative, so be it.
i just checkout the recently changed LMG recoil on the dev build, it actually usable now without mounting, but it does make you feel a bit powerful (like the mg42) and making mounting kinda redundant, personally they should slow down the movement while running, increase ads speed and aim sway if you have low and out stamina, it should punish player who run and gun with an LMG, making them bit more slugish to use aggresively
It can as well lead to players not seeding servers, because not liking kit restrictions
I was right the first time, you just don't get it. The people who are seeding the servers will be able to customise those servers the way they see fit. The only server restrictions that would apply are the ones they implement themselves.
At the moment there aren’t enough kit restriction lovers in playerbase
Go and enjoy the rest of your day, bud 😂 ...
Kit restriction lover here
Arm stamina is the answer, have heavier weapons increase arm stamina which will increase sway and ADS time

Not sure if this suggestion thread is dead yet, but if it's not,
Short bursts could also be encouraged with increased chance of jam the longer the gun fires
Particularly with belt fed MGs, I heard feed issues can happen
PKM is a quirk, as you want to fire more than 3-5 bullets at a time, also related to belt feeding
Are barrel overheating and barrel change mechanics planned anytime soon?
