If you have the development build of OHD, and you have feedback on gun sounds, say it here. @nimble hearth is making new sounds and @fierce zephyr is implementing them since last week, so there's newer sounds. Check #📒changelogs to see which sounds they have done so far. Be detailed if you can and give references on what you think it should sound like (preferably if you've heard them in real life, but not required if there's good videos with accurate sounds).
#(WIP) Dev Build New Gun Sounds Feedback Thread

Ak 47 new sounds are better with full auto but with semi auto its kinda feels like it lacks punch 👊 in terms of Pitch
Im not practical good with describing stuff but ill try
New Ping for the M1 dose also sound better or maybe its the Mandela effect and its just the same as the old one
ekh idk why I kind of prefer Wander's SA58 gun sounds
and the SVD
though other than that, you've did a great job
the m14 sound might need another look
If you guys post samples i'd love to critique. Just bought a house so im too broke to get dev build, got lots of experience shooting guns tho.
(Not all sounds are from Drakes, just keeping these for comparison later when they're implemented)

Some of the new gun sounds, still a work in progress so we need your feedback. And if you have the Dev Build, listen to them in game as well and give feedback, being more detailed is helpful
Some sounds might be from a previous person but your feedback on them helps also. Not all sounds have been fully replaced yet
these two are pretty much identical
Overall very nice. Are the shellcasings audible for that extra immersion and will the guns have different sounds indoors.
The new gamesounds make a huge difference in game. So much more inmersion. Keep it up 👍
kar98 needs a little work . needs more punch and bass. rest are good. i love the dragunov and pkm. they sound awsome defiantly an improvement across the board. nice job
The stg44 maybe as well putridi
also maybe M1 grand needs tweaking. sound a bit muffled compaired to the rest. sounds like a wet towel of the barrel of the gun
i agree Drakes is on the right track with most of them. And yea M1 and the STG44 also
i think the punch is there for the STG. just needs more metal slapping around. more audible weapon noise.
yup, they do sound like guns.
Puchy and crunchy.
add a dry metal sliding sound evetime that bolt goes back and forth when firing, like a rusty ungreased spring with a metallic slap every time that bolt comes back and hits the metal frame of the weapon and we are golden

Nice bass on that first one. Has a really satisfying punch to it.
ikr i like it too
Ppsh41 sounds maybe a bit to ‘light’?
It does ngl or maybe my ears trippin lol
i agree, i think a little more punch to it would make the semi auto sound better
it probably needs only a tiny bit more bass
yea lil more bass I think would do it, full auto sounds close, already very good
You don't hear shell casings in a firefight. Wearing ear pro, everything is loud.
In general I don't think that they are loud enough, that deep boom needs to be a thing, and the reverb in open spaces should sound like it does in westerns.
These all sound like they were shot inside with sound dampened walls
The 9mm's I would say are good
The m249 is deep enough, more like that would be great
isn't the STG44 wander's though?
or drakes made a new one, idk
At this point basically all feedback to any sounds is important, so yea some might be from him
I gotta say, I prefer the old sounds much much better : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-S9S4NwswvI

is there a specific reason why you change the sounds ?
I think that the garand is the worst offender. Very scrapy and not boomy.
I will say that it is still across the board so much better tho. I really like the PPSH in auto, would say the semi sounds more like a pistol than a mid length barrel open bolt however
M14 as well as m1*
Because most people would disagree that the old sounds are better
Only a few are but it's still a work in progress rn
Yeah old sounds weren't great. These are much better
All the feedback here will make them all sound better than ever
So, much appreciated 🤝
Think that last bolt.. m40? Kinda sounds like your slapping a 2x4 against some stacked Plexiglas or something lol
The old M1 one sounded better in this version https://youtu.be/sxM8k6czHMA?si=Gd6qT0ggW0gZK0Ym
Operation: Harsh Doorstop is an Unreal Engine powered shooter sandbox similar to mod-friendly games like Ravenfield and Garry's Mod but with roots in tactical shooters like Squad and Arma III. The game is entirely donation funded, completely free, and has full Steam workshop support
Actually felt satisfying shooting it
Yes
Yeah that one is good. Good vid btw
Thx
IMO they should find the middle ground between Wander's and Drakes' version of the grease gun
alright so just a question of taste I guess :p
Anyway, gotta also like you guys not afraid of reworking things to make them better !
The idea would be to keep everything good about all the sounds we currently have while improving all the bad stuff we had
For sure 🤝
Drakes is doing well on these. Pooky and Warrior are giving him the OK and you guys' feedback makes their job a lot easier, we're making sure the community is happy with them all
Hello guys, I believe Pooky has implemented it in the build to be tested today internally. The updates include improved sound files and calibrated cues. When you dig in, I might join to see directly. I have more changes coming after that and then it's about finished. However, I noticed that the new gun sounds in the game rn do not sound exactly as they do in my SDK. That's probably because the dev SDK lacks some of the files I used. That's disappointing but, lest. Update: It appears a lot of these sounds i if not the majority are not my own. This is because of internal development processes, they will soon be implemented and they sound much better.
I think the m1 garand and the suppressed mk18 need some more punch to them, other than that these are fantastic
This is not an updated sound.
Hmm.. It appears that many of the sounds I worked on are not in yet.
I will give you a list of updated weapons today. I believe only around 20 are in the game as of now.
Some might be guns that were previously updated by the previous guy. Yeah I think a direct list would be great and we can post only those
Can also make sure we know which guns Pooky gave new sounds to
Presently, until I check whether it's properly in, it should be:
M1911
M14
M1 Garand
SVD
M9
Makarov
TT33 - Tokarev
M1903
M40A1
M16A1, A2, Vietnam M16, XM117
All AK variants
PKM
M3 Grease Gun
PPSh41
M60 and the SA58 (updated later to sound better like most guns) If you hear any other gun, it's not mine and is legacy (undone, left over etc.)
And they are not updated. Most guns received updates after this to sound much better.
New batch includes the PMC guns
I am responsible for firing sounds. The reloading, bolting and mechanical operation sounds are legacy unless they're firing mechanics, aka my AK sounds include mech elements, that is mine.
The MK18 sound is not in, but the new batch I sent contains it along with other PMC weapons. I believe what was posted here is legacy.
Here, the M1911, AK74u, Makarov and M3 Grease Gun are mine, along with the MG but that sounds is not intended for it but for the PKM. The rest are legacy. They have actually been designed but aren't in yet at this time it appears.
Okay gotcha. I think I just hadn't heard a lot of them after the previous guy updated them
In 8 minutes the changelogs channel will have a new post on all the new stuff we've done in the past day, we'll see what Pooky's changelog says also
There appears to be some discrepancy between the actual sounds as I've designed them of those that are mine and how they appear. I'll have to look into the actual implementation
I think it's best we integrated the latest batch before we continue discerning
Yeah, already addressed days ago. I agree with the assessment, they punch hard now
The new ping is due to improved mastering. It sounds better due to the behind the scenes tinkering
That sounds so good
💦
Are you gonna do the MG42?

the one and only
YOOO the PKM sounds SO GOOD NOW
there is a werid sound error with the MP5 at the end when you stop shoting
Can you show me?
uhh sure ill stream im hangout 2
Gyattt mg sounds badass
sounds very nice
Yes, that wasn't an error but part of the sound dw
M40 sound sort of like its being fired multiple times in a shot
Let me know when the new sounds hit when Pooky puts em in if it's still a problem
*updated sounds (from how they are now)
So you don't hear them fall on the ground or are you talking about something else?
You dont. Its such a quiet sound and you are wearing ear-pro, plus ambient noise is usually nuts
When i was shot at i honestly couldnt hear shit.
They could make it a sound that gets drowned out/deprioritized easily i suppose
@here more feedback on these sounds
M1/m14 needs less grinding sound and more boom
@dusky totem personal opinion, the MK 18 suppressed sounds fake, it seems more like a radio interference that gets suddenly cut. I also suggest changing the reloading sounds for the M4/MK18s and AK's, for example i would like to hear that typical clack you get when you insert the mag in the AK hehe. Last request/suggestion: the typical friction induced sound when the bolt slides back after pressing the bolt catch, it's missing for now.
I love the M40 sound, maybe you can tweak the M1/M14 a little more like Armscream said
are you adding the reverb aswell?
Thank you for your input, I will heed it shortly.
Most people have a large issue with the M14, I will focus on that.
I updated the contentious weapons. When Pooky is on, he'll put it in for the next test
There is some inherent to the sounds, and it's somewhat dynamic
range wise, but not environment wise
These are all the weapon firing sound sets I implemented and designed. Some of them will be used in other weapons, you may notice. Other sounds are legacy for future reference. Not all sounds were encompassed in my work, so be aware of the discrepancy when you're testing in the future. Final set should be in by tomorrow for testing.
What will the Final set have?
Lots of integration improvements, bug fix, new sound assets
Thank you Edd, essentially the final set.
Np 👍
Wow these are amazing
🤝 loving these
Can you change the basic bolt action rifle bolt sound? I love how the cold war era bolt action rifle sounds now.
Btw all the heavy machine guns sound amazingx
For some reason it sounds like there is a delayed and duplicated sound at the end of the standard bolt action reload sound
Need higher pitch and sliding sounds. Also the sound of a round seating in a chamber.
I think you can reuse the sound from the other bolt action but just speed it up a little?
M14/m1 still sounds wrong. Also the sound just ends to abruptly too with not enough tail and that may be a big part of it.
There was a decided issue to cut the tail
Bolt-action and reloading/handling mechs are not me, I just covered the shooting sounds and related, those are the active changes
Can you put the Remington 700 bolt sound on the regular bolt sound? Is it the same timing?
Yeah it is slower.
Also idk if this would need a new sound, but it would be a cool feature to be able to reload faster in non ads and then slower under ads
I'll let Pooky know, I am unfamiliar personally with the mech stuff in engine outside firing, i was hired to cover the firing sounds.
The sound redesign and implementation has been completed. The game will now sound a lot better, as you've seen in the playtests. I am glad I was able to contribute my design. I hope you guys enjoy.
