You have more options than ever to get Geforce Now and play with latency or used PC with GTX 1660 tier hardware.

Says the toxic, rich, idiot with gigabit internet.

Not everyone can afford newer/higher end hardware, or even has access to fast internet.
(BTW bad internet is not just for people who are "poor" either or people in "developing" countries - rural communities even in "rich" countrues are often neglected by ISPs.)

I wish I could lock you up in a rural location with crappy DSL so you can learn what it's like not having fast, reliable internet.

If a game exceeds the capabilities of my computer, I consider it a waste of time to bother the game developer, I can only criticize it when a very ugly looking game has higher requirements than games from a decade ago

#

in the case of OHD everything possible has been done to satisfy owners of older equipment

#

I'm not even mentioning that you get the game for free, maybe developers should buy graphics cards for players

plush warren
# vernal leaf you can't require the game to run on a calculator because the game engine itself...

The Steam Deck is not a "calculator". I'm not demanding the game run on a "calculator".

But there are people with older/lower end PCs (like the GTX 9XX/10XX for example, which are still far more powerful than even the Intel UHD 770 in most of the latest 13th/14th Gen Intel CPUs) and new handheld gaming PCs (like the Steam Deck) that would like to play. There should be better optimization for that kind of hardware.

besides, in multiplayer games I am very much in favor of minimal settings, and not in a way that one player can't see anyone and the others shoot at running sticks

no one is stop you to go play another server where half of the players use settings when the game looks like 2005

To answer your question, you can likely expect this game to become worse with the gatekeeping mentality that some of the community and developers have... basically following in a lot of the footsteps of the rest of the greedy game industry has been for the past few years.

  • fewer (and locked out) graphics options
  • potential future updates that may ruin performance (much like a "live service" game)
  • potential future updates that may ruin graphics (bluriness in motion, flickering, ghosting, visual noise, and other artifacts from heavy reliance on upscaling and sharpening)
  • etc. (don't be surprised if they add Engagement Optimized Matchmaking and microtransactions)
