#A Few Compiled Suggestions

I’ve been playing Operation: Harsh Doorstop a lot lately, I have all the DLC except the supporter bundle (I’ll get that soon) and I just wanted to give a few more suggestions:

1: Louder Guns, most firearms feel very weak with little recoil and usually lacking the loud sound of a cartridge being fired. The AK’s, BAR, and all of the Bolt Actions suffer from this the most in my opinion. (I love the explosion effects though)

2: More Gun Variety, my main focus with this section is giving an LMG to the PMC faction in-game. The M249 would be a good option.

3: A Western Urban Map, the only 2 maps I would consider Urban are in the Middle East so they are sniper dominated due to large streets and small houses with little cover besides destroyed cars. I know Carentan will eventually release but I feel like a modern Westernized Urban map would bring an interesting dynamic. Once I get into modding when I get more memory for my PC I’ll try to make a map like this.

4: Better AI, Usually in games I play single player if it’s an option and 1 issue I noticed is that the AI bunch up and mainly try to target the player so on maps like Lam Dong where you can’t see much it makes the AI an annoyance.

5: Cold War Maps, this is probably the least important but since the Gulf War is in the game maybe the Serb Invasion of Kosovo could also be added. The factions could just be reskins of the “USA (Cold War)” and “Russia (Cold War)”. The USA would have its traditional green and brown field camo and the Serbians (the Russia reskin for practicality) would wear berets and have their camo uniform. The map could have a large Eastern European field for vehicles with a small village on the side or center for intense infantry engagements.

  1. thatll be coming, a lot of sounds are being reworked. keep in mind, however, that what you are hearing is just one set of sounds, specifically "open field" reflections, so the sound is supposed to dissipate very quickly as if its in a wide open field with nothing to obstruct the sound waves. guns sound very different when shot in different environments, we just dont have a system in yet in order to switch them when you enter different environments.

  2. SDK is available, you can add whatever guns you want, dont need us for that. we have a variety to choose from that we just happened to have made at the time, and will eventually be making more, but its not really the point or focus of this project. keep in mind that the base game is more of a demonstration of what is possible than the end all be all experience that we want everyone to play, and so things like this arent really a major focus for us right now. we are much more focused on major framework features and functionality, such as auto mod downloading upon server joining, mod tools, and so on.

  3. SDK is available, you can make modded maps, and some people i believe have already started working on something like this. will we make something like this ourselves? maybe, but this sort of goes back to my point above about the base game being more of a demonstration, and our focuses being on other larger tasks right now.

  4. read the #📰devblogs. spoken plenty about AI in there for months now.

  5. refer back to points about SDK.

best piece of advice i can give you is to not get too focused on the base game. its there for people to get into things quickly and sort of see whats up, but ultimately its not what we really expect people to want to consolidate around. this is why we have such a heavy focus on the SDK and the modding tools, because that is the entire point of the project: the community has the tools to make the experiences they want, they dont need us to do that. to us the main value of having the base game isnt even really the base game itself, its that the modders have a lot of stuff to re-tool and work with to make their own creations.

what you said might be true, but there are 2 things to keep in mind:

  1. Some people might prefer the base variant of the game over modifications, maybe because they want to play the "official" version of the game and not just some other person's mod, the amount of space it takes just to play the base variant (it is a lot), or just how it feels in general

  2. Just going to state it rn, but I do not know how modding works. More maps in the game could make life easier for modders since there can be a wider selection of maps they can take and modify based on their environment and terrain.
