We're going to start with the DC show. I give you the Greta Van Super-suit (name given by my friend who went with me)
This was the second idea I had, the first being something heavily inspired by early Jake looks, which required a lot of tedious things I did not have the time for.
Instead, I wanted something that would represent each member. For Josh (and Sam a bit too), all white with what I feel is a signature Josh pants shape. The element I chose for Jake is a lot more subtle than the rest, so much that I've totally forgotten what it was (Jake I make up for it with my second outfit I promise). For Sam, the wing he has on his older suits, but on both sides to fit into Danny.
I absolutely adore Danny's Starcatcher looks, especially the first one with the almost cape like back. I knew I wanted to incorporate it somehow and went back and forth for a while
on how I could do it while still having the Sam wing. The solution was sewing buttons onto the sleeves and shoulders of the blazer, as well as two under the collar. I then added button holes on the fabric, giving me the option of Sam wings or a dramatic Danny cape. Everyone loved it.
It took about three weeks to fully put together, as well as my friend with far more sewing experience helping me. It's also worth noting that everything was either thrifted or something I already had! I probably paid around $35 for everything, work smart not hard kids!
And now onto Charleston, buckle up this one is a ride.
So, I absolutely love Jake's sprinkle suit. The blazer I had originally gotten for DC (thrifted for like $5 (this becomes relevant later) was already pre-bedazzled. I knew what I had to do.
The first thing I did was design what I wanted, and boy I fell in love with it. It's far more simple than the Super-Suit, but its standout feature speaks for itself.
I commissioned the insanely talented Ethereal Thread Co. to help bring my vision to life, and it was worth every penny (this is the patch on the back of the jacket).
Though I wanted to do this all on my own, I knew I didn't have the skill to crop the blazer, so I took it to a nearby dry cleaner and the lovely woman there helped me out. She asked if it was for a uniform and I said "yeah, sort of". I went back to show her the finished product and she was very excited that she was able to help.
One of my favorite parts about the sprinkle suit is the little dangly guys Jake has on the sleeves. I bought so many beads and tried to have mine match up with his. I didn't want to make a complete replica of the jacket, but I did want the key elements in there. Unfortunately, while I was sprinting through the venue trying to pass out the LML papers, one did fall off. Tragic.
The rest of the outfit is fairly simple, black pants, black boots, and black Elton John type sunglasses. A couple rhinestones under my eyes and some pirate style eyeliner. And one absolutely ridiculous silver and black earring, as well as my Starcatcher necklace and a necklace that was gifted to me with black roses.
This jacket went from a $5 thrift store find to the most expensive piece of clothing I own, but I think it was worth every bit. If I ever get married I genuinely think this is going to be what I wear.
But here are the photos! I have included the sketches I did as well as the finished products, as well as a photo of both of them being worn at Charleston (shout out to my sister for letting me Greta her)
