#PSX Ripping Suggestions (Bust A Groove)

hiiii, so I already made a post on the forum asking about this but I thought I'd try here too since it seems way more active

I'm trying to rip models from a PSX game called Bust A Groove, I've already tried 2 different methods: PSXPrev and 3D screenshots (Duckstation plugin and Avocado Emulator)

PSXprev didn't pull the models out right - the bounding boxes and joints would show, but there'd be nothing else.

The 3D screenshotting did work, except it came out as an obj and even after converting to blend, wouldnt really work with blender (It'd show up as some messed up triangle way out from the work area??)

if anyone could give me advice or more directions on using either of these tools it would be super appreciated, I have practically no experience ripping anything but I seriously wanna figure these models out.

If both PSXPrev and Avocado produce subpar results and you can't find a specific model extractor tool on Github or romhacking.net (i checked, neither have anything) you're pretty much out of luck.
The last method is using no$psx to sniff out the vertex info and working backwards from there, but this is usually very hard. Though sometimes you might get lucky and the model format is easy.
What sort of files does the CD contain? Can you somehow list them all here?

but I did actually get a good 3d screenshot with the models and can view it in an obj viewer, but again it doesn't work in blender and I'm not sure what to do with it at this point

also, theres a lot of these errors in the logs for psxprev, im not sure what they really mean

hmmm, i'm not sure. I'm not a Windows user.
is your game disc a .ISO or a .BIN file?

#

i think windows 11 might have an option to "Mount Disc" if you right click on the disc image file... not sure.
Maybe 7z can decompress a disc to its files? wish i knew sorry

okay apparently software called Any2Iso can do it, it installs a contextual menu item "Extract to"...

#

inside is a buncha folders

#

some vertices are easy to find. Not sure about faces yet though

#

could be body and head

#

no$psx polygon sniffing would help here, too, but it's a lot of work and i'm kinda in the middle of something so eeeeeh maybe i'll come back to this

oh thank you so much though for looking though, much appreciated

#

it's very late in my time zone but I'll download the software here and try to look tomorrow (or in a bit if I can't sleep tbh)

Well turns out duckstation's screen ripper got an update, so this shit is possible now

#

only issue is blender's new versions literally hiding the alpha settings from me

update: had to downgrade because new blender sucks
