Its an "old box" i guess. Post Update 3.5
Some machanic had changed, so sometime they dont work.
Just dismantle and you get everything whats inside back in your inventory, also the parts for the crate.
Than you build a new one

I built a new one of course, but that too didn't open. THats not happening with all my boxes and I haven't found the clue so far - will report here!

Is it only the midsize boxes?

no I built a big one too, and after some pushing it around it didn't open any more ... as soon as I see a pattern, I will report!
