On several occasions I have simply jumped in the water and drop down down to the depths without hitting any buttons as if I was being propelled, with absolutely no way to get back up

I’ve read somewhere that you can exit game and then continue and it may recognize your swimming again. Or you can reload the last autosave before you jumps in.
Out of curiosity, was it raining when you jumped in and fell through? I’ve had that issue myself when it’s raining, so out of precaution I don’t jump in during storms.

Yeah. Several of us have experienced this. I was watching a streamer last night who experienced it. It’s like you get sucked into the void. No depth meter, dumping your inventory doesn’t help. @junior vale it was not raining. I think there are some holes in the map.
