the SD model in your model folder, is that the base model that is being used together with any other you select?
WD 1.5 is made to work well with SD2.1 if I understand correctly, so how do I make that work properly?

WD1.5 is a Stable Diffusion 2.1 model, while most you may see on civit and such are still 1.5 based.
The checkpoint or model you select in the webui is going to be the model you're using, there's no 'base' here, unless you're talking about LoRA and stuff.
in other words WD1.5 is not made to work well with SD2.1, IT IS a SD2.1 model
to start generating waifus you should only need A model (singular, but you can download however many you wish and swap between them), a .yaml file sometimes for SD2.1 models
and that already outputs waifus, though getting an external vae (https://huggingface.co/hakurei/waifu-diffusion-v1-4/resolve/main/vae/kl-f8-anime2.ckpt), putting it in models/vae and selecting in webui settings > stablediffusion
is recommended
