Last tier of rewards contains 5 "pure crystals", that I guess should convert to epic crystals when gained. Well, they don't. Right now I have 5 useless "things" in my equipment that can't be interacted or converted.

And how is that supposed to work? I have 2 Ice crystals and 5 Pure crystals. Shouldn't then this screen show 7 instead of 2? Or what I'm missing?

These are a totally different crystals. You have 2 ice crystals and 7 pure crystals. Ice crystal is the element you use to upgrade your heros.
Ok, then what does those pure crystals do? I don't see any use for them (yet)? Or how do you use them?

Yes, I still need an assistance, because I did not get an answer to my question what I'm supposed to do with those crystals. The whole answer was "item is an early-game item and is no longer available". If it is no longer available then why it is in my inventory? If it is not available then why it was given as Alliance tournament reward?
