making a monetized game open sources makes no sense

#

is the same thing as saying "please let me copy your code"

you think people are going to copy his code on a 400 person active playerbase game? how much is this game's ARR anyway? seems like there's a ton of tech debt anyway bc of the active memory leak and many many bugs - a full rewrite would be more useful than copying his code, as if anyone would even want to just replicate the exact same game anyway. I guarantee you no one is wasting their time copying this "monetized" game's code to replicate their own if this game were open source

What a terrible take 😂 some of us actually enjoy the game despite some of its issues - if you don't like it then don't play

There's a difference between constructive criticism and straight-up shit-talking, your reply reads as if you got rejected by a girl and started pointing out all her flaws as a coping mechanism

If what you say is true and nobody would even want to copy the game code why don't you go ahead and make a new idle game that's better instead of making false claims about how small the active player base is, be better

you sound like you speak from experience

I don't understand where you get this false notion that I don't enjoy playing the game. If I just hated on the game I wouldn't be playing it at all. There's obviously a lot of bug fixes that could be resolved if a competent and dedicated dev was allowed to make changes. And what do you mean "false claims about how small the active playerbase is"? https://steamcharts.com/app/2103530 Seems true to me.

I'm glad you are enjoying the game! The steam charts barely make up 1/3rd of active players though, I believe most users are on mobile through ios or android

Not really worth it financially for me to spend active hours making a new idle game, big tech pays much better. It's a nice passion project on the side though since it's something I enjoy playing and would like to improve the experience for both myself and current players.

And if it gets large enough that it would be worth copying the code, I think the creator would be a lot more happy about the 10-100x revenue increase over the possibility that someone may steal IP

#

and do you think it'd be more likely that someone would actually steal code rather than just take inspiration? This game already takes heavy inspiration from Melvor Idle

You may be more experienced than I am but 10-100x revenue just by going open-source sounds far-fetched at best 🤷‍♂️

I'm not going to pretend the game isn't heavily influenced by runescape and melvor idle but you mention 'big tech' and 'revenue increases' yet its not all about money.

You are entitled to your opinion about how the developer should run the game, but I don't believe the dev will open-source the game code so I'll just leave the discussion at that

i am definitely not promising any sort of revenue increase from making it open source but my point was there seem to be a lot of bugs piling up and improving the quality of life for players could help increase the player count by a lot and it seems like there aren't enough dev hours allocated which is fair given the revenue probably isn't enough to hire devs but if you have the luxury of being able to let ppl look at the code and fix bugs for free that's a very fortunate nice-to-have
