Sometimes during critical steering moments, it becomes difficult to activate a powerup immediately after it becomes usable because a finger is already occupied with steering input.
To help with this, I’d like to suggest the auto-trigger feature for powerups.
Suggested mechanism
A player could swipe on a powerup that is still charging, to auto-trigger it. Once the powerup becomes charged, it would automatically be activated immediately.
For multi-use powerups (for example Rocket Boost), auto-trigger would only perform the first activation and would not automatically consume all remaining uses.
This would differ from a normal tap:
- Tap = use instantly (current behavior)
- Swipe = queue activation for immediate use once it becomes charged
Auto-trigger could also be cancellable by tapping/swiping again.
Situations where this would help
1) Defensive reactions
- Bots can activate powerups like Tesla Coil almost immediately once they are charged.
- Human players, however, are limited by touch input timing and may not be able to activate Shield quickly enough.
- Auto-trigger would allow players to prepare Shield in advance so activation is triggered instantly once charged.
2) Speed races / sharp turns
- Sometimes we want to activate speed powerups immediately when they become usable.
- But during sharp turns, the right thumb may already be occupied steering (especially since powerup buttons are on the right side).
- Auto-trigger would help maintain steering while also activating the powerup immediately once charged.
3) Discarding droppable powerups quickly
- Sometimes a player wants to discard a droppable powerup immediately after it becomes charged, in order to make room for an upcoming powerup bubble.
- If the current powerup is still charging while approaching another bubble, auto-trigger would help streamline inventory management, without affecting steering.
