r2_sun_details on and r__enable_grass_shadow on are also in use but yeah it usually does a good job of pulling the scene together
You're using the in-game grass shadows too? I've kept them off for fear of losing too many frames. Are they worthwhile?
they're definitely worthwhile but you will absolutely lose frames
they also won't work unless you have sun details on
I'm using Pascal's RTGI shader. Worth doubling up on the AO grass shadows?
they do different things.. RTGI is handling GI + AO, grass shadows are more like "detailed shadows" in ENB if you know what i mean
best bet is to find a spot with a bunch of grass, enable grass shadows, and then toggle sun details on and off and you'll see what i mean

I'll have a look. So far been pretty happy with how the AO from RTGI has been looking on nearby grass. But I don't remember what in-game grass shadows even look like
one aspect of sun details being enabled is that small rocks and other things will shadow cast, however one negative is that you'll sometimes see the bugginess of xray's shadow cascades with it enabled.. recommend using the 3x cascade exes with it always

Well that’s surprising. Because the filtering looks crappy from the screen shot.
I’d focus now on undoing the dump into the game folder and then just use the ADEGA texture set which also includes GTR stuff.

Your best bet is to open the archive that you dumped into your game folder and then compare the files/dirs in it to what’s in the game dir

Taking care to not remove any local files that are supposed to be in the game dir as well.

its no biggy tho, all he has to do is redownload anomaly 1.5.1 and the 1.5.2 update
and delete the gamedata folder, reinstall it with the update
its best to install most of your mods with MO2, much much more manageable, else youd have to have backups and such

The problem is hd models files itself
there are cases which saves get ruined by corrupted models that makes the game crash with a empty stack trace
Hd models has many model files that you may get lucky and never see a corrupted model spawn and cause problems
Or you may not and get your save corrupted
also some models have unnecesary 4k textures hidden below a crappy helmet/gasmask model textures which makes performance hits

i just hop in debug and mess around
i play 40 hours plus and i got only one crash and got it fixed (HD MODELS)

now granted since you're using DSR this is going to be downscaled back to 1080p (assuming your native is 1080p) so the differences might appear less at the final display, but there's clearly more raw info there (1.78x more info and hence a significant hit to fps)
Hard to tell when both images are the same size and have been through some form of rescaling, but looking closely, you can spot subtle differences in the deets. You'd be able to see how much better a 1440 image is than 1080p one when on a native 1440p display
you'll see more detail downscaling as well for sure
here's an example of 1080p vs 1440p -> 1080p downscaled using adaptive method... the downscaler (which DSR/DLDSR has a component heavily involved with) will simply have more data to work with upon arriving at the same native resolution, however in this case it's obviously more subtle than straight 1080p vs 1440p native: https://imgsli.com/MTQ5ODE4
not only will this help with retaining sharpness and details of that which is downscaled it'll also help with anti-aliasing

I got into a knife fight earlier with a chimera because it spawned in cordon (lucky, or unlucky I guess) and I had basically no ammo as I just started. I spent so long beating it and then it somehow aggro'd onto my companion who was standing farther away, killed him and I died in the black screen when the tourist safari quest failed. Feels bad

but the problem is in the .xml for each faction, you need to rename the files or change the path inside each .xml to make each model be able to spawn
since azetrix is made for COP, factions like cs/unisg/renegades/bandits don't have models, instead you need to use HD models and also grab some extra that expedition grabbed from another model

it's not that hard, but it's tiresome to open blender and load all models + textures for each faction and go deciding which goes in what tier for that npc and if they look well in game

yeah they look good, but sadly there isn't that much variety for factions
so far i kinda mixed the good looking hd models with azetrix so they look similar in style and quality
but got stuck on loner faction since they have +100 meshes in the folder (the rest have 20-40 max)
so i just said fuck this and never opened blender again lol

another big problem is optimization, i haven't even tested the fps/gpu/cpu usage compared to dux or vanilla models
and the famous corrupted HD models, so theres a chance that someone playing can get a save corrupted due to a corrupted model

Are there "corrupted" models in HDM or just extremely heavy and inefficient models? I've read that some have dense meshes where they aren't needed.
im not 100% sure, i just read a modder post that about hd models and kinda makes sense with the amount of empty stack crashes i saw people report when they were using hd models
also read that some models have 4k textures beneath crappy helmet models/textures
so yeah, performance is kinda heavy

I have a feeling this is a save that’s loading an NPC using an already corrupted model somehow. I don’t know the exact save format but it’s unlikely they would be saving data related to actual models in the save itself. More likely an instance of something associated with a model in usage but said model could be swapped back out or fixed.

If by "that" you mean looking like the Badland or Poison preset people have been posting, yes. Hippo's providing the lighting and weather, the presets doing the color grading and filmic effects.

It can vary depending on the scene, but yeah, I think Poison looks especially nice in the swamp and elsewhere with Aydin's autumn grasses

@past hare for the vignette possibly make it to so the vignette only applies on the top and not the bottom so that it doesnt interfere with the hud such as your health and such
or use an effect to not have it affect the hud

I wish I could. As far as I can tell, any alteration to the vignette's shape/size applies uniformly. If I remove it from the bottom, it gets removed from the top.

The banding isn't noticeable in brighter environs, just dark. Unfortunately for me in regard to reshade vignettes, I prefer my games to look gloomy and dark lol

So storm1 and 2 are done, partly 1 and 2 are done I added some rain at odd hours of the day based on cloud cover. Clear 1 and 2 have had some slight color grading changes. Now I'm doing cloudy1 and 2 which Im thinking of adding some light snow particles in the air

@strange finch I think I found a nice middle ground. Seems ArtisticVignette has been improved since last I tried it as I don't see banding, though I haven't thoroughly tested it yet. The "sky only" option is great but I still want some vignette on the sides and bottom. To reduce the vignette on the bottom of the screen while still getting the look I want, requires two vignettes. Some tests with Zone. I like it.

Aydin grass tweaks
hippo shader and atmospherics
Aydin grass tweaks will overwrite grass/trees textures
while hippo atmospherics will overwrite most of graupel weathers cfgs

Can you show me your brightness and reshade settings? It looks different to me, not so saturated
CA, Bloom, and Vignette are all very exciting. My only concern is that those things will be out of the hands of reshaders and fully on the lighting and weathers side if I want to take advantage of the benefits of SSS implementation, making presets less customizable(in regard to those effects). Meaning, to get the look I want, I'd have to be able to edit those parameters within SSS because I can't expect users of my presets to do that. I guess I need to learn to work with SSS...brings me back to the days of tweaking ENBs

depending on the shader and how involved it is you can also port it to the game's shaders in a similar way people port reshade shaders to enb
Well boris also had to add a parallax shader as part of the work and all the textures need to be updated to take advantage of said shader... we have native parallax in modern xray

Yeah, it was a nice surprise to see that. However, Anomaly's parallax is a light touch. I'm talking deep, complex parallax like in current ENB and games like Plague Tale Requiem. Imagine a partially snowy ground texture, with muddy footprints and soggy detritus. The depth! Lol

It's funny because HippoS actually brightens things up a lot from vanilla GAMMA. Good for colorgrading though as it gives us more range to work with.

Those are Reshade presets. What I meant by HippoS are the shaders and the only required part of his mod. Typing cfg_load hipposr in console will get you the brighter lighting profile no Reshade needed. Sorry, I don't know all the lingo for this stuff. I'm simple!
it's cfg_load hippoS, it's the shader preset, it requires no reshade, you actually disable reshade for it

it works wonders if you can't afford the FPS for or don't want to use the reshade

playing with 20-30 fps with the reshade enabled but the campfire location gives me insane stutter for some reason no matter if it's turned or not

I remember that CA was posted by LVutner time ago. Also FideltyFX-CAS (adaptative sharpening). I think it uses the open-source .h file and invoked from "combine_2_naa.ps".

The reshade is phroZacs badlands preset in Hippos Shaders and Atmospherics 
I also use this reshade. Can you show me your brightness and reshade settings? It looks different to me
My brightness is default 1.05 and gamma 1.05 when you load hipposr - The reshade settings is default havent changed a thing, I am playing 3325x1871 dlsr which might be why
Also time of day and weather effects the reshade, alot of the time its more blue but in clear weather its abit brighter

Upscaled wallpapers if anyone wants them. Just open in browser and download for 4k quality. Unreal Engine 5 is looking so damn good. I really wish the Stalker 2 dev team picked up @dark brook. I feel like he alone knows what the game needs and what we want. But i guess we always have the modding community to help fix things.

Speaking of graphics, I've played a few branches of Anomaly...GAMMA, Dark Signal, Expedition. I'm curious, from the videos I've watched it seems like GAMMA is the best looking of the various modpacks, or it could be that the people posting are all modded up and rocking presets. Are there certain Anomaly modpacks known to generally look better than others?
Piggybacking this to see what comes up, I want to try EFP but I cant seem to make it look as nice as gamma so just sticking with that for now

Could be. Would not be surprised if they dressed it up a bit on some monster machine. I can believe it though. Extreme settings to become the new "Can it run Crysis" standard. Current games made by teams big and smallish are looking almost as impressive. The aforementioned Chernobylite looks amazing, and A Plague Tale: Requiem looks nuts.
I guess I'm more asking about their vanilla states. If any one of them starts off stronger than the rest at default if that makes sense.
I'm sure if the first screenshot is real, the engine is paused, super sampled, and every setting cranked in 4k. So yeah, not a playable setting but looks damn nice lol.

its still gonna look crazy on UE5
UE5 is pretty impressive tho. Lumen is its new real time lighting system that handles colored bounce light and reflections and it's pretty optimized less demanding than conventional ray tracing. UE5s new mesh rendering system can also handle static meshes with millions of triangles far better than any other engine can. So for those of us with modern hardware, I think we are in for a treat.
Lumen, Nanite, and Metahuman are all going to factor bigly in the future of game dev

i use motion estimation + TFAA like in your presets, but with different settings in TFAA, offset by qUINT sharpen for more aggressive sharpening after the TFAA pass

grass i have at halfway on the density slider (which equates to details value of 0.25 in the .ltx file i think) and maxed distance of 250m. no in-game AA (SMAA has a performance hit but no visual impact whatsoever once reshade is on)
tbh i saw the 20 min install video and got scurred 😛
also i use 2048 shadow res, which helped maintain 60fps vs the 4096 setting. all the other settings are maxed except sun shadow detail at 'high' and sun rays at 'low'
SMAA has barely a hit but I agree, doubling up on reshade AA methods works best. It's the grass density that kills. Mine is set to around 80%.
granted i have not been to many areas of the game yet so there certainly could be some that are more demanding that i'd need to readjust for

sure, like i said it's nothing fancy compared to what you and phr0zac do :p also it's designed with an OLED display in mind so i can't say how good it would look on non-OLED. night time looks beautifully stunning with my preset though... 😄

i know mini led is great too, but i dunno - can they do 'infinite' contrast i.e. 0 nits blacks? that's the real game changer with OLED. i've had this TV for about a year now and it still keeps blowing me away on a daily basis

Haha. Funnily enough, it was that "3080 Ti pride" that kept me from lowering the grass density setting. I was like Bilbo Baggins with my precious grass density. You've inspired me to drop it down a few notches.
even at 1440p that setting murdered my frame rate if maxed out
at 4k it was literally a slideshow 😛
i think that might partially be caused by the volumetric sun rays. they interact with the grass objects, so with density maxed or very high, that's an insane amount of work that sun ray shader is doing. i noticed the grass shadows toggle is irrelevant if you have volumetric rays turned on because they literally cast shadows from the rays themselves.

nothing to do with that and everything to do with just rendering a shitload of objects and the draw call cost... i'd stick to 0.3-0.4 for density at the absolute lowest
make sure you enable both grass shadows and sun detail or you're not actually getting full grass shadowing (and prepare to disable it because you won't maintain 4k/60 after)
I have RTGI on always. The only thing I'll switch off is the trio of effects for TFAA. That's only for when I use the leafless trees.

Yeah, I'm threading the needle at 3440 x 1440 with a 3080 Ti. At 2560 x 1440 I'm able to run RTGI and TFAA and still maintain 60. No need for TFAA at 4k.
yeah gotcha, i can barely maintain 60 fps with RTGI on. thinking it's just not worth it on my 3070 at 1440p
might have to mess with settings more
Yeah, those two effects aren't cheap. I have them on toggles for a reason as they can eat up to 20 fps on my rig.

RTGI's visual impact is so minor and not worth it imho compared to its performance cost
it's basically just AO with color and since Anomaly has beautiful looking HBAO (and other AO options) built in, it's just not worth the FPS it eats up. again, that's all just my personal opinion though.. and we know how those are 😉

Yeah but if you want to take full advantage of SSS's features you need to use SSDO, so HBAO is off the table as SSS with RTGI(if you have the headroom) is a pretty potent combo. Expensive though, true.
